Droid RAZR M being crazy

My RAZR M is possessed.  It's lagging when you type.  The screen kind of stutters when you switch between screens.  All of the regular colors are going crazy.  They're going to primary colors, but it's not a permanent thing.  Just every now and then.  It'll vibrate that there's a notification, even when there's nothing going on.  Again, it's not constant.  But it's often enough to make me nuts.

I don't know what's going on; but since the update my previously PERFECT phone (dream phone) has had the following issues:
1)  All MP3's zapped into a folder called lost.dir and renamed to bizarre names with no extension
2)  Battery life stinking (could go through a whole day at work and use < 30% battery).
3)  Screen lag is very, very noticable
4)  Opening apps is like running windows 8 on a 286...AKA SLOW as heck.
What's going on with our phones????? I am just about ready to get an Apple...where Apple sends out the update, Not Verizon. Yes, while Apple has problems on occasion, they are Apple issues, not VZ tampering with stuff and screwing it up.

  • Droid Razr - too hot to touch

Having several issues with my Droid RAZR, purchased in June 2012.  Current Android Version 4.1.2, Build Nbr 9.8.20-72....
    Main issues are:
Battery life - stays plugged in all day & takes about an hour to go from 100% battery to about 65% battery.  It's under 50% at 2 hours after being unplugged & is around 20% within 3 hrs.
Overheating is a problem.  When not in use (and simply in a shirt pocket) it gets to the point of being uncomfortably hot.  Temp in a battery app is between 42-45 C.  If I use it for streaming audio, it gets too hot to hold.  Heat is also up during any phone activity at all.
Drops in & out of 4G/3G constantly & is much more apt to drop that coverage down to 1x than ever before.
Also notice that the GPS flashes in & out more often recently than before.
Not sure exactly when the update to JellyBean was rolled out to me, but I have had more of these issues in the last 90 days than I did prior to that.  I know that within the last 30 days other Verizon users with Droids have told me about abnormal power consumption on virtually all apps on their phone.
Using Advanced Task Killer v1.9.7 & have it set to autokill = crazy and interval = when screen off.  Apps set to ignore are Gmail, a Craigslist app, Weather and Calendar. Everything else I have set to kill.  Even with those apps, it is still warm to the touch.
Nothing I've done thus far has seemed to help curb the unusual power consumption on my Razr.  I've cleared the cache on it several times, and it seems to have curbed the constant heat issue, but not the spikes in temperature that went unnoticed before.
I don't want to do a factory reset on it if I can avoid it, but would if it were the only resort.
Any ideas what else to try?

    To answer your questions:
    1. First thing Get rid of the Task Killer that can for sure cause the Heating as the ( Task Killer ) is constantly fight the Apps,
It is now uninstalled.  I had installed it when I noticed that the Android OS was using a disproportionate amount of the system resources (over 50%).
    2. try running the phone in Safe Mode you could have some apps causing the issue as well
I will give this a try.  Most apps I notice take 3% or under of power consumption.  The big ones are screen (30 second timeout), Android OS (as of now, they are about 70% of the power consumption) and Wi-Fi (at home).  Android System takes only slightly more than the most heavy power consuming app.
Outside of the task killer, I had only installed updates to apps over the last month or so.  I just booted it into Safe Mode & it got noticeably hot in the center after about 5 minutes.
    3. And have you done a System Cache Clear in say the last couple of Months if not i would definitely try that
Yes, several times in the last week or so (Power off, then Vol + and Vol - and Power ), select Recovery, then select wipe cache partition & then reboot).
    4. with a follow up of a Factory Reset
I had wanted to avoid doing that unless as an absolute last resort, since I have so many pictures, files, and other things saved on the phone.
    and your last question:
    5. And one other thing i like to ask are you using the Charger that came with the phone or Charging it Via a Computer if by computer Switch to the charger that came with it in the Box..
Yes (at home).  In the vehicle, I am using a charger I purchased from Verizon when I got this phone.  At work, I use an AC Charger that was also purchased from Verizon.
Thanks for the help.  I will let you know if Safe Mode makes any difference.

  • Droid Razr M Problems

I have had my droid razr m since february of this year and have had no problems. Today however, i turned on my phone and it started to update some apps due to me still being connected to the wifi at my house. I tried to stop the updates to help save data on my phone. I was unable to stop the update of the Gmail app on my phone. I then proceeded to open the app and saw that the autosync was turned off. I went to turn it on and my phone goes crazy. It started to restart itself repeatedly. Now it will not allow me to get off the lock screen and it keep trying to gain verizon wireless service but then it stays on lock screen and states no service and then tries again to regain service but it acts like it is unable to do it. Anyone know if the Gmail app update is causing this or is it something else?

According to several reviews posted on the Gmail app site, this has happened to others.  Users have reported doing hard resets to correct the problem.  One user said they turned off the phone's sync setting, then uninstalled the update.

  • Brand New Droid Razr M locking up

Upgraded from Blackberry Bold to Droid Razr M Friday - didn't use it much over the weekend but was pretty impressed that the battery didn't need charging until Sunday night. However, today (Monday) I have had to hard reboot the phone twice (hold down the silver power key and volume down controls simultaneously). Both times the phone has just locked up; the blue indicator in the top left was still flashing but the screen would not wake up and calls to the handset went to VM after the normal number of rings for a non-answered call.
I'm liking the phone so far (90% of the time); call audio is crystal clear and the volume is good, operation has been very responsive and not laggy at all. No crazy apps loaded - just standard social media (FB & Twitter), email (gmail; hotmail; Moxier for corporate server connection), Flashlight, Bible, Pandora, Navigator, Kindle, Adobe reader, Salesforce, Youtube, Chrome, Firefox, and a few others.
    Anyone else having this issue?
    Phone is running:
    - System version: 98.12.4.XT907.Verizon.en.US
    - Model number: DROID RAZR M
    - Android 4.1.1
    - Baseband version: SM_BP_1139.000.32.62P
    - Kernel version: 3.0.31-g2a89152
    - Build number: 9.8.1Q_27-2
    - Build date: Sun Oct 21 16:08:45 PDT 2012
Any VZ folks online that can speak to this being a version/build issue?
I cannot get on the phone swap merry-go-round; this is a work phone and I need it to at least handle the basics. Any solid leads/resolutions will be most appreciated!

Thanks for the follow up; I appreciate the analysis but being naturally stubborn, it seems poor to have a 'smartphone' that isn't able to use widely distributed apps. While your solution may end up being all or part of the fix, I'm going to string along and see what happens over the next few days. One app change I did make was removing the redundant Hotmail app; I have my Hotmail account set up to sync with the Google Mail app so I had a thought that there might be a conflict between the two mail apps that were syncing to the same account...don't know if that's relevant but we'll see.
It looks like I have the latest and greatest firmware available from VZ - at least per their 'no updates available' message when I checked for system updates.
    Thanks again for answering!

  • Thoroughly disappointed with Droid Razr

I paid a premium price less than a year ago for a LEMON of a phone -- the Droid Razr by Motorola.  I have now replaced by new phone with three (3) refurbished phones because of the faculty Google operating system and poor manufacturing by Motorola, which is now owned by Google.  Sorry I abandoned my old Blackberry, but I feared the RIM would not survive.

If you could explain the problem you are having, somebody here might actually be able to help you.
And FYI, the RAZR was already being designed, probably built, possibly released before Google took over.  Sounds like you have some pre-determined issues with Google, which should probably be addressed to Google themselves.

  • Droid Razr Maxx/Issues with Exchange Sync and Texting

I have a Droid Razr Maxx.  Since the KitKat update to 4.4 in May 2014, my Exchange email account will not sync. My Comcast account does.    If I power cycle the phone, it will sync the Exchange account for a short time until I receive the following error message:  'couldn't open connection to server due to sec..."  When I touch the error message, it just goes away.  If there is more of the error message, I'm unable to see it.  I have removed the Exchange account and added it back in three times.  My IT department indicates they have not made any changes to the security levels, but have fielded several questions from other Android users with the KitKat update.  My text messaging service also stopped.  I've been reviewing all forums and tried different things, but to no avail.  I went to the Verizon store, who just said that there have been 'lots' of complaints about KitKat and that I should buy a different phone.  This $200+ phone is only 7 months old.  Please help!!

After deleting and adding my Corporate account, visiting the local Verizon store several times, visiting my IT department, and now wiping the phone and re installing all software, the Corporate email still only syncs when I power cycle the phone.  We are a BYOD company which means every other phone works with the Exchange account.  My phone also worked up until the KitKat update in May 2014. The only recommendation I have received from Verizon is to replace my 8 month old Motorola Razr Maxx with a entirely different phone at full price. The tech I spoke with at Verizon made the statement that she has avoided updating to KitKat given all the customer issues she has had to deal with.
I'm in a technology field and understand when glitches occur, but also expect functionality issues to be addressed. I've been with both Verizon and Motorola for a long time, but very doubtful I will continue this relationship when contract time is up for renewal.  I'm carrying my iPad around to get the Corporate emails and the Razr Maxx has been relegated to just being a very expensive phone.

  • I currently have a DROID RAZR M and I'm 1 year into my 2 year contract.  Since the Kitkat update, the phone won't stay charged and it's very buggy.  I know this is not Verizons fault but it's also not mine. I would like to change my phone to an iPhone 5s

I currently have a DROID RAZR M and I'm 1 year into my 2 year contract.  Since the Kitkat update, the phone won't stay charged and it's very buggy.  I know this is not Verizons fault but it's also not mine. I would like to change my phone to an iPhone 5s and keep my same plan but switch to the Edge program. Is this possible? I don't think I should have to pay an early termination fee or anything like that since my phone has become almost unusable. I know under normal circumstances you have to wait 2 yrs to upgrade but due to the update and the poor service I'm now getting I hope Verizon can make an exception. Thank you.

How recently did you switch?  If it's less than 60 days, then Verizon simply reinstates your previous account.  The fact that you were on the EDGE plan and mailed the devices back, and they apparently are somewhere in the system, could cause complications, and it might just work out that you just go back on the same plan and they set you up with the same devices.  I'm not sure how it will go - but since you are still being billed for the devices...

  • Problems with Droid RAZR HD

    Hi,
I have had to post this into the Droid RAZR MAXX section due to the Droid RAZR HD no longer being posted on Verizon's site anywhere.  I first acquired this phone on 6/18/2013.  After a month I started having a few problems with the phone.  Being my first smart phone I just thought thats how it operated.  In December of 13 the problems had gotten so bad that I had gone by my local store several times and was basically told that if I wanted a different phone to buy one off Craigslist.  I couldn't believe that! The phone was only 6 months old and still under warranty.  The associate never offered to complete a warranty claim either.  Since then I am on my second replacement, third phone all together and have called Verizon a few times about every phone I get that turns out to be defective. Would Verizon not allow an exchange seven months into a two year contract if every phone I've had has been defective? I mean, its not even on their web site anywhere and the Droid RAZR MAXX is and it came out the same time as my Droid RAZR HD.
A VZ rep once offered to exchange and downgrade me only to another Droid.  I did not care to downgrade and stay with the Android OS.  I want to get away from the Android OS completely and change over to an Iphone and be done with it.  I'm not asking for the latest and greatest Iphone just because it might seem as though "I dislike the Droid I have now".  I want to change over to an Iphone because every Droid I get turns out to be defective. I wish I had NEVER EVER selected the Droid in the first place and hope I don't regret signing up Verizon, their service is awesome and CS is great too.  I've just been in this string of defective phones that's not even listed on their web site anymore and I don't care to have a phone that locks up and freezes when I need to make a call.

We appreciate you taking the time to contact us. We also want to make sure you have a phone that is working properly for  you, 10.8denson.
The warranty will replace the same make/model for you.
If you are looking to get a different device, you can look into Certified Pre Owned http://bit.ly/NTcxRW, a possible Edge upgrade http://bit.ly/1br8ZPg. Have we been able to troubleshoot this device with you?

  • Windows 8.1 and RT, XT912_Verizon Droid Razr, Texas Instruments TI_Connectivity_Module show up in my network

Checkout the thread on Microsoft Community forum.
On Windows 8.1 RT and 8.1 on a laptop, the XT912_Verizon Droid Razr keeps showing up under Phone in my network and the Texas Instruments TI_Connectivity_Module also keep showing up.  Also, sometimes a Samsung Galaxy shows up, all with various,
but consistent mac addresses in the Win 8.1 (RT) File explorer.  These devices are NOT showing up as available wireless networks that I can connect to.  This us under Network on File Explorer.  I have added mac address filtering to my router,
changed my wifi security key, which is a strong 20 random characters, and changed the user name and password for my router.  These devices do not show up as being wirelessly connected to the router and do not show up as dhcp clients on my router,
from the router admin interface.  This tells me that, if these devices are connecting to my network, they are not doing it wirelessly, since they are not in the mac address list and not listed as wireless connections in the router admin interface.
If I show properties of, particularly the XT912, it "disappears" from the network window on the Win 8.1 (RT) explorer.  The router is a motorola sbg6580.  I connected through a cable to my router, turned off all other devices, disabled
wireless on both my router and my laptop, disabled WPS, listed only allowed MAC addresses in the MAC address filtering table and changed my network password, router user name and password to random character/number strings.  I haven't seen the devices
    since.
So far, three other users  have reported on this thread as having the same problem.  The other users who have posted on the Microsoft Community forum thread continue to have the problem.  The strange thing is the same device keeps showing
    up, XT912_Verizon, for all users.

    Hi,
For the issue, please select  "Turn off network discovery" to check the result.
Meanwhile, I suggest to perform Windows Defender to run a full-system scan.

  • Droid razr

i have the droid razr and it's awful. it's always glitching, freezing, during on and off by itself out of no where, the screen and the back of the phone get really hot like it's been laying outside or something. and worst of all the screen will just sometimes randomly go black for a long period of time. i don't think this could have happened from me dropping it, because it was doing all this before i dropped it and i've only dropped it a few times. but do you think Verizon will replace my phone if i tell them this? or do you think they'll just say it's from the phone being dropped?even though it was happening before the drops. and cna someone, anyone, please give me advice or an answer as soon as possible. it's greatly apprecatied!

Thank you all for your response. I appreciate you taking the time to help out our fellow community members.
    @sydddnneey,
Having issue with your phone is never a good time and I’m here to help!
How long have you had this issue? Have you tried a soft reset http://bit.ly/tb2reb? Did you notice these started after the ICS update? One thing you can try is a hard reset. This is recommended after a large software update like the ICS.
If you are still having these issues after the hard reset http://bit.ly/tQ0nkT we may need to look into replacement options. As long as there is no physical or liquid damage and you’re under the warranty it can be replaced at no cost.
Post back if you need further assistance after the hard reset.

  • Droid RAZR now $0.01

    Crazy....
Amazon.com: Motorola Droid RAZR (Verizon Wireless): Cell Phones & Accessories
People were paying $200 yesterday, now it's free.

    Yeah Razr/ICS sucks without Flash.
I think this is fixable though. The Samsung/Google Nexus has the same CPU & GPU as our Razr and Flash works fine there with ICS 4.0.4.
Also the other 4.0.4 Devices have working flash.
I don't know if its Adobes fault or Motorolas. Both shoud get their ***** up and get flash back to working.
Im ok with Jelly Bean 4.1 not getting flash (I wont update). But Adobe states that Flash is supportet on devices 4.0.X !

  • Droid Razr software update issues

Anyone having issues installing new Droid Razr update?  Selecedt Settings, About, System Update and it states Your Device is Up to Date?  Its actually not up to date.

I revived the update and it failed to update and wouldnt recognize my sim!
I did a factory reset and it froze my phone..  I have had 7 razr's with problems and I should not have to deal with this. They told me I can call motorola...*** gfy! I am a costumer ...you call! They said I can switch out my phone for a droid charge or thunderbolt...are you joking you *** hole they sell for ten bucks on ebay. They said that there was no know issues for the razr on their system...bull **** the last ten techs told me there was..with the screen and battery and with 4g not holding. Then she said the update was to fix the battery life...but you just got done telling me there was no know battery issues..so they must of just been updating it for??? the razr maxx has a bigger battery and a screen with a different glue to fix two know issues. thats why it was released 4 months after the razr...they sure know how to sell ********?? or do they?? being a part of the purchasing department our 300 employees will be choosing a different carrier soon.

  • KitKat Upgrade is horrible for Droid RAZR Maxx HD - Major issues - Horrible testing

If anyone can read this before accepting the update...DONT DO IT!!!!  There are a lot of issues especially with the RAZR Maxx HD.
You lose SWYPE, they get rid of it. You lose your personalized dictionary.
You lose the capability of auto Bluetooth. I used to be able to just get in my truck and it would auto connect.  NOW everything is manual.  It keeps dropping the connect and I have to keep connecting.  This is absolutely horrible upgrade.
If I am listening to an app through Bluetooth and receive a phone call, it will switch.  After about 60 seconds, the call is still connected, yet the phone starts broadcasting the app as well as the phone call, it drowns out the phone conversation.  I have to close the app or stop the broadcasting of the app.  It will no longer keep it in the background.
The text messaging is now all with a white background, you can't tell the difference between you and the person you're texting.
I'm trying to figure out how Motorola and Verizon could think this is a good thing!!!

I am having the same issues, been thru tech support with my office, Verizon and Motorola. Nothing has been done to correct it. First off I never wanted the update, why is this update forced upon the users that do not want it. Every app that I have downloaded I have the option to either update or not, but not the phone that I PAID for. I PAID for the phone in its original state mainly due to the way it performed. I would NOT have PAID for a phone with the KIT KAT software. My Son was able to shut down his update and avoid the KitKat update on the exact model phone I have, and is experiencing none of these issues.
    Some of my issues are:
Swype- I purchased my phone with the Swype feature on it, KitKat stole that from me. I will not purchase the Swype from Google Play as I have already paid for it.
Text messaging- Color scheme is abysmal to say the least, lost the ability for deleting multiple messages, cannot see group messages.
Wifi/Bluetooth- Cannot be used at the same time, have to chose one or the other, so no streaming video on wifi with bluetooth headphones
Weak Wifi- Signal strength has gotten horrific- Use to be able to sit outside and connect to Wifi- now only have 15 ft range- could get almost 50ft prior to update- sons Droid Razr HD still can with JellyBean
No 4g- I have always had 4 bars of 4g in my house- now I only get 3g or the 1X- Sons JellyBean phone sitting next to mine has 4g, mine will not
Loss of Wifi and bluetooth- All of my Wifi and bluetooth saved connections are gone and on some cannot connect- Can no longer connect to the hands free in my truck.
Loss of LED scheme- Again with the white- my LED light for notifications use to be a green light, blue for bluetooth, red for low battery, now it’s all white.
Corp Sync- Email notifications are no longer being pushed thru- I now have to manually check email messages, no longer coming up on the drop down screen and no notifications.
Battery Life- Battery now is depleting at a tremendous rate- I have force stopped and deactivated all programs that I do not use but because the phone seems to always be looking for signal it is eating up battery life.
I mainly use my phone for business and not for play; This KitKat update has really hurt my ability to communicate using my phone. I understand that the update will not be rolled back but I do hope that there is a patch that is coming out soon, as when I read up on the different forums everywhere there are thousands of us with the same issues.
My son and I have the same Droid Razr HD, He was able to avoid the update his phone works better than mine, true my screen may slide over a little smoother and it may play video a little more clearly (if it’s not buffering) but there is absolutely nothing that benefits me or my family on a FORCED, UNSOLICITED, UNWANTED update. If you want to update fine, but do not change my settings, or remove any of my features in the update.

  • Droid RAZR Jelly Bean Update-Part 2

For those who did not follow the previous discussion, I had the Jelly Bean 4.1.2 update forced OTA to my phone at the end of March. It caused numerous problems such as:
    1. I have battery life that cannot last more than 20-30 minutes on a phone call
    2. Severe lag on my software such as browser, home screen scrolling, opening any apps, etc.
    3. Phone randomly makes phones calls (screen off, phone sitting on a table charging for hours then suddenly a muffled "Hello? Hello? Can you hear me?").
    4. Random text problems: Phone says cannot send texts but does anyways, phone sends text to wrong person, group texting is all kinds of wrong).
    5. Same WiFi issues as reported by other users above.
    6. Speaker Phone starts out fine but then suddenly becomes low volume. Only ending the call and redialing fixes this; until it does it again on the new call.
    7. The keyboard does the spacing issues, the auto-correct is so bad that a word like "problems" comes out as "price blems"
    8. Bluetooth does not connect any longer to my ear piece or car.
I spoke to VZW about this yesterday and they sent me a CLN Droid RAZR to replace my malfunctioning device. I pulled the device from the box and activated it and let it update its stock apps (I did not install any 3rd Party or Play Store Apps). After using the device for awhile (6 hours) I had all of the same issues I had on the original device. I could not connect via Bluetooth, WiFi only would connect to one Access Point out of 6 I tried (all less than a year old, different models, at Home, Work, Clients, etc), battery died after 1.5 hours despite having a full charge and only being used for some phone calls and light web use, and so on.
I called back to VZW Customer Care and explained to them I was in a bind as I was leaving to travel for work tomorrow and would be gone 2-3 weeks and could not be without a working phone. I was told immediately they understand and a brand new (not CLN) Droid RAZR HD was on its way overnight.
I must say, I have not always had great experiences with VZW Customer Care, but the ability to call and have an upgraded device on its way to my house in under 5 minutes (with 2 of those being on hold, and one transfer to Tier 2) was very good customer service. I would have been in a bind if I had to travel without a working phone...to the point that I was ready to just jump ship and hop on another carrier to be sure I had working service/phone. I was expecting to receive the transfer shuffle, be offered contract extension, offered lesser devices, etc (based on past experiences). I did not expect an upgraded phone that is not even a CLN, but an actual new phone after just a few minutes.
So thank you VZW. You did really help me out.

yes, i can boot into recovery menu & can select recovery option.
but after i select recovery option, it will just show some dead green
android picture(whose stomach is open with stop/error symbol)
    Thanks & Regards
