Droid Razr Maxx Internet Connection Problem

I have had the Droid Razr Maxx for several years.  Recently (especially since the last update), my Droid Razr Maxx's internet connection is extremely poor and mostly non-functional.  In fact, I normally shut off the WiFi since it rarely works.  It does not function in my home or any other place.  My router is fine and many other devices connect normally to my router (it is not the router).  This seems to be a Droid Razr Maxx problem.  I've removed all connections from the device, but nothing seems to work.  I included the phone information below.  Is there any viable solution to this problem?  I'd appreciate any help.
Android version:  4.1.2
System version: 98.72.165.XT912.Verizon.en.US
Baseband version: CDMA_N_05.21.00RLTEDC_U_09.1D.00
Webtop version: wt-3.0.0
Kernal version:  2.0.8-g3617609   hudsoncm@ilclbld32 #1  SMP PREEMPT Thu Nov 21 14:19:19 CST 2013
Build number: 9.8.20-72_VZW-16-5
Build date:  Thus Nov 21 14:10:17 CST 2013

Well, I think I may have figured out the problem.  The guest network on my router was apparently interfering with my regular network and not allowing my Droid Razr Maxx to connect.  Once I shut the guest network off, I've been connected to the Internet for 8 straight hours today.  No drops, just a clean connecting all day long and streaming music all day long!
So, for me, the solution to this issue was turning off the guest network on my router.

  • Problem with Droid Razr Maxx and Jelly Bean update

My Droid Razr Maxx was updated this morning and right away found a couple of problems. First, although I was sitting next to my wireless router, the signal display indicated a really weak signal. This seemed to clear up after a reboot and an on-off-on cycle of the wifi on the phone.
The second problem was that, with the wifi off, I had no data signal. None. The phone worked but no 1x/3G/4G. I traced that problem to the phone configuration. Somehow the update turned off Mobile network data access. (Menu -> System Settings -> Wireless Netwroks -> More... -> Mobile networks -> Enable data access over mobile networks)
Seems like a dumb thing for the update to do.

Put all of your contacts in one place, Gmail contacts.  Gmail will only sync one copy and is an excellent way to restore contacts after a factory reset.  If you have contacts in Gmail, Verizon Backup Assistant, Facemail, etc. then you will probably get multiple copies.  Ditch Backup Assistant ASAP if you have it activated.
Make sure all of your contacts are in Gmail Contacts, erase all contacts from your phone (clear data in Settings > Apps > All > Contacts Storage), and resync with Gmail Contacts.

  • Just bought a new Droid Razr Maxx yesterday. WI-FI doesn't work at all.

Bought a new Droid Razr Maxx yesterday 9/23/12. Everything on it works just fine, except Wi-Fi. My phone doesn't even search for networks. I bring up the wi-fi menu and it's just blank. I hit scan and nothing happens. I restarted my phone a few times and it finally brought some up (although they're gone now) and when I tried to connect it would just practically ignore my requests. I'd enter the password in, hit "connect" and absolutely nothing would happen. This isn't just a problem with my home router, It doesn't find/recognize any wireless networks at my major university either. I've never had an issue like this. What can I do? Maybe I should just take it back to my local Verizon store?
    Thanks!

I want to ensure you're able to stay connected using your Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD!  When did this problem begin?  In what zip code are you experiencing this?  Do you get an error message when attempting to send a text?  Are you using a downloaded text messaging application or are you using the preinstalled text messaging application?
Please try removing and reinserting the SIM Card http://vz.to/1jxFQVZ and retesting.  Please let me know so that I can further assist.  Thanks!

  • DROID RAZR MAXX HD will not update to Android 4.4.2

    Hello, All.
I am trying to figure out why my phone will not update to the newest version of Android or how to resolve this issue.
    Here are my specs:
    System version: 9.18.94.XT926.Verizon.en.US
Model number: DROID RAZR MAXX HD
    Android version: 4.1.2
    Baseband version: VANQUISH_BQ_100730.151.64.17P
    Kernel version: 3.1.31-gef7deb8
    Build number: 9.8.1Q-94
Build date: Wed Sep 25 15:13:00 CDT 2013
Here's the issue. I get the notification to update to KitKat (4.4.2) and so I download the update and press the install. It reboots my phone and starts the update. It gets to about halfway when the little Android animation falls on its side and displays a red triangle above him. My phone reboots again and when it loads, it shows a message saying that the update failed. There is no more information - just that it failed.
Is anyone out there having the same problem I am having? I've searched the Internet at no avail. All I've found are issues after the update.
Is there another way of updating my system that I don't know about? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

        Sharon ,
Thank you for giving that a try. A factory data reset would be the next step. I know you are hesitant to do this, but we can make it easier to restore the phone after it is erased. Do you happen to use Verizon Cloud? It's a great app that you can download from the Play Store and it'll save all of your contacts, pictures, videos, music and documents. If you do not recall your Gmail address and password please take note of them before doing the reset. Then, follow these steps http://vz.to/1hdnWdK to reset your phone. Often times doing this after a software update will resolve any issues you're having.

  • Update has completely ruined Droid Razr Maxx Hd

As stated I have a droid razr maxx hd and ever since the kit kat update my phone has been close to useless. I have browsed the forum and seen multiple complaints and proposed solutions to the problems like mine and I have tried them and none have worked. My wifi signal reception is half as good and no changes have been made to the home wifi setttings. Areas in town where I would have full 4g reception including at my home are now 3 bar 3g reception. I have been missing calls for work because the phone is constantly searching for signal and is in between 3g and 4g in areas that before were always max 4g. With wifi turned off, if I pass an open wifi spot the phone will lose all data connection until im out of reach of the wifi spot. The phone shuts down on its own and battery life has been cut in half with absolutely no changes since the update. No new apps no change in how frequent the phone is used. I have done the very harsh factory reset and re-installed apps and no luck. I feel like im out of options and don't know which direction to go because I've still got 5 months before im eligible for an upgrade and I don't think I should have to pay full price for a phone when I enjoyed the phone I had until this update was forced on me. The rep at the local store told me about a plan to pay for the phone monthly but Verizon would be making me pay another 20 bucks a month to buy a new phone that this update screwed up along with me GIVING them the phone I paid for. I don't want to leave Verizon as I liked their service before all of this happening but I cant see paying 600 for a new phone that I didn't tear up. Im almost at the end of my rope...any help would be greatly appreciated.

I also have had the same misfortune. I am appalled that I was forced into updating my phone to Kit Kat. My phone just randomly freezes, shuts down, reboots itself, and now I don't have the battery life that it used to have. I could normally leave my phone on for 2-3 days and now it just shuts itself off more than once a day.
It seems none of the "fixes", that have been suggested, work. I don't know about you but I also lost my Swype and this new app they had me download is not nearly as good!!!! Wasn't it Motorola that "forced" the update? ...not Verizon.  I know I had to call Motorola for any issues.
We need to have them change the phone back to its original programming... I wasn't asking for an update so why did they send them to all of our Razr Maxx HD phones? AGGRAVATING!!!
If you find out anything new please post it so that everyone can benefit from the knowledge.
    Thanks.

  • Droid Razr Maxx Multimedia messages

For the past couple of week, my droid razr maxx has started not to allow me to respond or send anything that is considered a multimedia message. At all. This is extremely frustrating. I'm a college student and often use this as a way to contact my parents, friends, and classmates. My phone is up to date and I have both Wifi and my data plan turned on. I can receive multimedia messages just fine; however, I cannot send or reply to them.
Can anyone help me? I haven't even had this phone for a year and this is just the latest problem I'm having. My sister and mom have this phone as well and they're having no problems whatsoever.

I know it's very important to have an operable device to communicate rcripps. Let's get to the bottom of this! Are you connected to the wifi connection while the wifi setting is on? When you attempt to respond or send do you notice the signal indicator connecting to 3G/4G for a few moments? Are you able to send/respond with wifi off and connected to the Verizon Wireless network? Try powering the device off and removing/inserting the sim here http://vz.to/19QSEGL test and share. Thank you.

  • After one year, my Droid Razr Maxx is shutting off on its own.

After one year without problems, my Droid Razr Maxx has begun to shut off and occasionally restart on its own several times a day. Sometimes when it shuts off, it can take as long as fifteen minutes before it will start again.
I have tried deleting all of the applications I've installed since recently before the problem began, but the problem persists. Is this a known issue? Have there been any recent updates that might be causing this behavior? Does anyone have any additional things I can try before sending my phone to Verizon?
    Thank you.

I also have this problem which occurs under two sets of conditions. First, if the device is left on charge for a couple of hours after getting to 100% it shuts down and cannot be re-started with the power button. The second is that if I take the device out of my belt holder and leave it alone for a couple of hours, it shuts down the same way,
    How to re-start the phone
For both conditions, the device can be re-started by simultaneously holding the power button and the lower end of the volume button.  This produces what is called a "soft boot."
It has worked every time so far since the problem cropped up earlier this year. I got the device in March 2013.
    Addressing the cause
Verizon in its forums advises users to clean the cache with a complicated series of steps that drop the user into a normally hidden portion of the operating system.  See URL below.
    https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/801488
I am using Easy Cache (URL below) to clean out trash files that accumulate on the device,  Unlike prior versions of Android, in 4.1.2, here is no easily accessible menu option to do this.  So far over a period of several months I have not had any issues with Easy Cache other than its constant promotion of additional Apps in which I have no interest.
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bazinga.cacheclean&hl=en
Note that trash files accumulate quickly and that a clean out at least every other day can remove several hundred megabytes of temporary files.
Theories about the cause of the problem.
The first is that in the case of leaving device on charge for too long produces a false signal to the operating system of an extremely low battery condition and the device shuts down.
The second is that in the case of leaving the device on a desk for several hours, with no detectable motion, sets off a routine in the operating system to protect the battery draining completely. This issue is a head-scratcher since there is really no difference between doing that and leaving the phone on your nightstand for 6-8 hours while you sleep.
    Feedback to Verizon and Motorola.
This problem needs to be fixed. A review of various Android forums on the Internet shows a lot of traffic about it some of it going back more than a year.  See this shortened version of the Google search string http://bit.ly/13Q6pkp
This is not something you can stick you heads in the sand about as disgruntled customers are reporting in this problem forums, and with increasing frequency, they are returning the phones or seeking alternatives.

  • Droid Razr Maxx/Issues with Exchange Sync and Texting

I have a Droid Razr Maxx.  Since the KitKat update to 4.4 in May 2014, my Exchange email account will not sync. My Comcast account does.    If I power cycle the phone, it will sync the Exchange account for a short time until I receive the following error message:  'couldn't open connection to server due to sec..."  When I touch the error message, it just goes away.  If there is more of the error message, I'm unable to see it.  I have removed the Exchange account and added it back in three times.  My IT department indicates they have not made any changes to the security levels, but have fielded several questions from other Android users with the KitKat update.  My text messaging service also stopped.  I've been reviewing all forums and tried different things, but to no avail.  I went to the Verizon store, who just said that there have been 'lots' of complaints about KitKat and that I should buy a different phone.  This $200+ phone is only 7 months old.  Please help!!

After deleting and adding my Corporate account, visiting the local Verizon store several times, visiting my IT department, and now wiping the phone and re installing all software, the Corporate email still only syncs when I power cycle the phone.  We are a BYOD company which means every other phone works with the Exchange account.  My phone also worked up until the KitKat update in May 2014. The only recommendation I have received from Verizon is to replace my 8 month old Motorola Razr Maxx with a entirely different phone at full price. The tech I spoke with at Verizon made the statement that she has avoided updating to KitKat given all the customer issues she has had to deal with.
I'm in a technology field and understand when glitches occur, but also expect functionality issues to be addressed. I've been with both Verizon and Motorola for a long time, but very doubtful I will continue this relationship when contract time is up for renewal.  I'm carrying my iPad around to get the Corporate emails and the Razr Maxx has been relegated to just being a very expensive phone.

  • Droid razr maxx

I have an Apple Airport Extreme and am trying to utilize the wirelss function with my Droid Razr Maxx...the reception is poor at best on my Droid (3 units) and Motorolla says to contact Apple for resolution as the Droids have good reception with all other routers I encounter.  I assume it is some sort of setup in the router that needs to be changed as my Macbook Air's and other devices have great reception with the router.

  • Bluetooth Issue with Droid Razr Maxx

I have had my Razr Maxx for about 3 weeks. From the jump I have had problems playing music thru several bluetooth devices. It will play fine for a few minutes, then music will start stuttering(dropping in and out) and continue to do so. Music plays fine when playing thru the phone speaker or wired headphones, but fails when using bluetooth.  I called in, and they sent me another phone, and the same problem is occurring with the new one. I'm figuring its a software issue, bc I had no problems with my Droid X. Is anyone else having this problem?? I probably listen to music just as much as I talk on the phone and this is def. frustrating.

  • Sluggish touch screen Droid Razr Maxx

For the last several months, my Droid Razr Maxx has had a very sluggish touch screen. How can I fix this? Could I possibly have too many photos (1700?) saved to my phone, consuming too much memory? Would saving the photos to the card solve that problem and if so, how do I do that? Thanks so much!

I would think that 1700 photos on your device storage might be the culprit. You could use a file manager to multi select all the photos and move them to your SD card. As an easier alternative, you could use a file manager app to move the DCIM folder to your SD card and then make that the default storage location in your camera settings.

  • Wifi all of a sudden stopped working on my droid razr maxx

not sure what the deal is. my droid razr maxx sees that there is wifi at home but my phone will not connect.
    thank you.

Try a soft reset volume up and down hold plus power until it turns off or just reset you router at least power cycle it even if other devices connect. Also forget your network in WiFi settings

  • Group Text Messages Won't Download On My Droid Razr Maxx HD

Many times my Droid Razr Maxx HD will not receive group text messages.  Often, not always, when I receive a group text I get a message notification and when I look at the screen it simply says "downloading."  This downloading can go on for hours.  Two days ago one simple text message took 7 hours to download.  This is a recent problem probably only going back 3 weeks or so.  The other phones in this group text are two I Phone 5's, an I Phone 5 s and a Samsung Galaxy SIII.  My phone is used for business and my inability to receive a text quickly is hurting my business.  I may as well not have a cell phone.  Anyone have any suggestions or ideas?

I, too, am having the same issue.  I also notice the phone gets fairly warm/hot at times.  This all started after the most recent update.  It's highly annoying, as you all know, to see "Downloading  0kb" or "Downloading 30kb" over and over for both group texts as well as standard MMS.  Having to turn off WiFi, get the messages/downloads, then re-enable it is a hassle and not one that was present prior to the update.
I've been with Verizon for a little less than 2 years but if pushing out mandatory patches to their phones causes problems like this then I would have no qualms switching to AT&T.
I like my phone and, for the most part, I've liked my service.  I've Googled this issue and TONS of people are having it since the update.  I hope Verizon is listening to it's customers and working on a patch of some sort.
