Droid Update

I received notice of a system upgrade yesterday which was downloaded to my phone. Since then my droid has a mind of its own. The touchscreen jumps all over the place. It randomly sends text messages filled with gibberish and dials calls to my my contacts and voice mail at will. The only way to stop it is to remove the battery. Anyone else having this problem?

If you used the search button you would see that other people ARE experiencing this...
Perform a factory reset and you should see results.

  • What changed in recent Droid update?

I had an update pushed to my Droid 2 yesterday. Is there a page somewhere that describes what changed? My version info says:
    - System Version: Version 2.3.20.A955.Verizon.en.US
    - Android Version: 2.2
    Thanks.

Just found the answer on Android Forums.

  • Question on the new Droid update...can I decline it?

My daughter and I both have Droids and she got the update yesterday.  But it changed the look of the messaging screen.  It's no longer white lettering on a black background, it's now light blue letters on a white background and is very hard on the eyes.  Is there anyway to change that?  She also said the tab menu changed and it's driving her crazy.  She'd like to delete the "upgrade" since it seems to be of little use to her.  Meanwhile, my phone keeps giving me the message that an update is waiting and I keep putting it off. BTW, adjusting the brightness is of no help at all.
I really don't know what to do.  I don't deal with glare very well at all and the thought of wearing my sunglasses indoors to read texts is making me nauseous.  Is there any way OUT of the upgrade???

The page that changed was the list of "message senders"...it used to be black with white lettering.  Now it's gone to white with blue lettering and it's hard to read.  But in reading other Droid forums, I found an app I can use instead of the standard messaging app that changes the background and even lets me choose custom text.  My daughter's happy now and I finally downloaded the update.
However I'm NOT happy with the extra garbage that was included with the download.  Latitude is a useless invasion of my privacy.  I was stunned to receive an email that let me know my location was being disclosed online.  I think that's outrageous, but I know there is a younger crowd out there who will disagree with me.  Unfortunately, I can't uninstall it, but I did disable it.  It will stay that way permanently.

  • Droid Update / Gallery/Camera issues

does anyone know what to do about this?? After the update my Droid started freezing when it starts up you have to give it like 30 min. to start and sometimes it restarts itself then it never lets me see the gallery and the camera is fuzzy.  if they gallery eventually loads, it does the report force close thing....what can i do about this?
    Thanks!

Hi.  I understand that you are having issues with your Droid camera and photo gallery and I can certainly help you troubleshoot.   At times, applications does force close if there is a compatibility issue.  You may have an application that is not compatible with the update.   Did you download any applications after the update?  Are you using some type of file manager application to access your gallery?
If no, try to reprogram your phone by dialing *228 option 1 on your phone.
    Waiting on your reply
    Thanks!

  • Original Droid Update last night

I have the original Droid phone with the sliding keyboard and I installed a new update given to me last night and now my internet is down and it isn't letting me do anything that requires being connected to the internet. Is anyone else having this problem??? Any idea what to do?

With the phone ON, remove the battery for a minute or so. Replace, power up and see what happens.

  • Droid update and linked You Tube Acct

Okay...  when my phone updated itself a few weeks ago it apparently linked my YouTube account with my phone.  Now I cannot access the market on my phone because when I try to the phone wants my YouTube password.    I provide the password (correctly), and it doesn't recognize it.
I went into a local Verizon Store and all I was told was that I needed to go onto my computer at home, log into YouTube and unlink the accounts.    I can't see anywhere on my YouTube account where it is linked to my phone.  Argggggh!!!    If anyone can help I would really appreciate it

Open your Market app, and tap the menu key when you're on the main page.  One of the options should be "account," choose the correct one and you should be good to go.
The new Market defaults to whatever account it feels like at the moment, which can be kind of annoying.  I wound up pulling all but the primary Google account off my phone until Google releases an update that lets you designate (and keep) a default.

  • Droid Update - contacts have disappeared

When I installed the new update this morning, my contacts disappeared. Only their mobile numbers appear. So, I have to remember what person had which number and re-create the contact. Also, my text messages all show with the numbers, and not the contact names. Did I lose all my contacts forever?

Do you have the Incredible or the X?

  • Itunes and Droid X

Is there any free programs that will get my music from I tunes to the Droid X a lot of them suggested on here like Double Twist worked till new Droid update and a lot of the others don't support the Droid X and Media share just tells me that memory card is missing.
Also i'm using Itunes on an Imac
    Thanks

Double Twist should work fine. There are other third party solutions out there such as the missing sync (http://www.markspace.com)
Also, you can side load music onto the sd card right from the finder.
Just read that another user was having trouble using Double Twist after the update.  Odd.

  • Major problems following update

We updated our ipod Touch yesterday and are having major problems.  Firstly it appeared all music, podcasts, apps etc were missing.  We spent 3 hours recovering purchased items, then what appeared to be all our cd music from a file (within iTunes media on the hard drive).  However when we tried to sync it appeared as if we had two sets of everything on the Touch.  It then appeared that we had two sets of everything within iTunes.  In addition everytime we try and go into iTunes it comes up with a box which says
"a newer version of "every app!" already exists in your iTunes library.  Are you sure you want to replace it with the one you are moving" - I am not trying to move anything when this comes up and even after closing every window it starts again and so it is impossible to try and do anything to rectify the problem.
Help please I'm at the end of my tether - spent about 10 hours - will not ever update again!

This is definitely a longstanding service we have (FiOS, from early 2006), and I have no doubt that this router is no longer widely used.
I primarily posted because I wanted to send up a flag that the Droid software update (4.0.4, aka ICS or Ice Cream Sandwich) can do Bad Things to at least one extant WAP. It took a fair amount of troubleshooting to track down the problem (given that the LAN is only sporratically unavailable, service is not completely broken, simply unbearably slow with lots of web page failures).
Verizon has accepted that the Droid update is a problem (with assurances that Google will be notified) and is shipping a replacement. The testing suggestions are greatly appreciated; we may try them at a later date (esp. if the replacement Droid has problems).
We're currently not planning to replace the router because, save for Droid/4.0.4 behavior (misbehavior?) it works. Also, last I understood, Verizon only wants qualified equipment connecting to the NTU (e.g. the firmware is a Verizon-qualified variant--it doesn't want to run a standard D-Link image).
    Thanks for the reply.

  • Help! Incredible 2 won't charge!

I've had my incredible 2 for about 10 months and haven't had any problems. However, as of two days ago the phone stopped charging. I've left it on the charger over night and the orange light blinks (only for short amounts of time) but doesn't stay lit like it normally does when on the charger. I don't know what to do, I tried taking out the battery and nothing has been solved. Anyone else having this issue/know a way to fix it?

Did you just do the Droid update on July 5th or close to that date?  I did and my phone is losing it's charge very rapidly, rebooting constantly, dying whenever it feels like it, etc.  It corresponds 100% with the update as I had no problems before an immediately had issues afterwards.

  • Screen repeatedly locking up while typing or scrolling... and other questions.

My latest problem with this phone--in addition to the many that others have already complained about--is that it will just randomly shut off while I'm in the middle of typing, or scrolling down a webpage. It'll do this repeatedly in rapid succession for a few minutes until I either get disgusted and re-boot the phone, or sometimes it will just stop on its own.
Wondering if anyone else is having this problem. I am NOT referring to the "Black Screen of Death" where the screen won't respond period (though that's a frequent problem as well).
Also, is anyone else noticing that Verizon's representatives have been substantially less than helpful when asking questions about this phone? They're either completely clueless about anything to do with it, then get belligerent and nasty when you correct them (sorry, but I expect the "Smartphone Technician" to at least know the difference between a Motorola update and a Droid update), or they do the phony "we can try and troubleshoot it for you" line of nonsense.
Oh, and has anyone found a case that can accommodate the extended battery? I asked, and they said none were available yet. Good job people. Make a phone where the extended battery is necessary, make it flimsy, then don't put out a protective case for it. I'm afraid that if I drop this thing, it's going straight to the recycling plant in the sky...

    Hi geek_girl_913,
Your dissatisfaction with the Bionic powering off at random times is completely understood. I have checked my resources and found that Motorola is aware of this issue, since it has been brought to their attention by our Product Support Team. There will be an update to resolve this issue. Once it is available, our customers will be notified.
Regarding a case that covers the extended battery, this is something that is normally not offered with any phone. However, if using an extended battery, maybe a pouch would be better for you to use. Some have holsters and some do not, but there is a wide array of pouches available. This way, the phone is protected, has the extended battery, and you are still able to have easy access to it.
You are able to view all of the pouches we have at the following link:

I hope this information is helpful. Have a good day!

  • Two Droid 2 Global phones - Flaky since software update

I have two Droid 2 Global phones which were purchased at the same time.  Ever since the last software update, which I believe was the Gingerbread update, these phones have been acting flaky in several ways with various features just shutting down and only a restart of the phone able to make them work again.  Both phones have been having the exact same problems so that leads me to believe it is likely software related.
    1) It quits ringing...even with ringing volume turned all the way up, incoming calls just don't ring. Same with text messages.  Restarting phone fixes the problem.
    2) The camera will take a picture, but when you go to look at it in the gallery, it is just a blank image.  Unless you go look at the gallery, you have no way of knowing the picture didn't take.  Once again, restarting the phone fixes this.
    3)  I have similar issues with the bluetooth.  I sync it up to my car stereo, but sometimes it just won't sync until I restart the phone.
With the age of these phones, I suspect there are no more software updates on the way from Verizon.  Can anyone confirm that?  Unfortunately, the last software update also prevented <Deleted per the Verizon Wireless Terms of Service.>  Any suggestions on how to get these phones some sort of software update or useful again?  A phone that doesn't ring isn't much use.

        Hi jksoft,
I know how troubling these difficulties can be especially when it's happening to two lines of service. I extensively researched this trouble in our database as well as Motorola's and was unable to find this as any known trouble. The gingerbread update was the last release for the Droid 2 and no expected changes as of now.
Are you using the ringtones and notifications that are preloaded in the phone or the ones you have obtained elsewhere? If you haven't tried it yet, please use a notification tone and ringtone that is from the device itself. Let me know if this makes the device work correctly.
The trouble with camera and bluetooth don't have troubleshooting steps other than doing a hard reset of the device. This will completely wipe out the device but items like contacts and media can be backed up. To complete the reset go to http://bit.ly/rqKDhh and follow the steps for the preferred method. Please keep us posted as we may need to file an investigation with Motorola to review this.

I currently have a DROID RAZR M and I'm 1 year into my 2 year contract.  Since the Kitkat update, the phone won't stay charged and it's very buggy.  I know this is not Verizons fault but it's also not mine. I would like to change my phone to an iPhone 5s and keep my same plan but switch to the Edge program. Is this possible? I don't think I should have to pay an early termination fee or anything like that since my phone has become almost unusable. I know under normal circumstances you have to wait 2 yrs to upgrade but due to the update and the poor service I'm now getting I hope Verizon can make an exception. Thank you.

How recently did you switch?  If it's less than 60 days, then Verizon simply reinstates your previous account.  The fact that you were on the EDGE plan and mailed the devices back, and they apparently are somewhere in the system, could cause complications, and it might just work out that you just go back on the same plan and they set you up with the same devices.  I'm not sure how it will go - but since you are still being billed for the devices...

  • My Droid Razor HD updated yesterday. Now it will no longer connect to the bluetooth in my car

Yesterday I accepted the update for my Droid Razor HD. Now it will not connect to the Bluetooth in my car (worked for the previous 8 months).

Christin - Generally your pairings will still be in a list under BT on your phone. Unless of course, you performed a Factory Data Reset on the phone.
Your car's radio should have a reset capability. The front panel on my SONY comes off, and there's a reset button there. Do you have documentation that came with the car for the radio, or if an aftermarket radio, for the radio itself? If not, there is generally information on the web that you can Google to find the reset procedure.
    HTH.
