Droid X Capability Question

I am trying to find out if there is a way to download files from the internet to the Dx phone and have them saved to the flash card.  I repair computers and sometimes I have to work on computers that have dial up or no internet at all.  I went to a Verizon store and tried on the store model to download a video card driver but the phone came back with an unknown file type download failed.  Is there an app that will allow this or is this something and is this a something and can't be done?
Any help would be appreciated,
Ben

I use ByteTornado...works great and no limitations on file types.  Install Androzip too for zip/rar/7zip/tar etc.. extraction.
try it and you'll love it

  • Api/capability question re. simple chat room creation

    Hi
I stumbled across cocomo this evening and it looks like it could save a lot of time but need to know something before investing in a lot of reading/playing about. I need to be able to create a public chat room on-the-fly that will permanently stay.
I don't want to manually create a room.
Does the SDK allow this? (sorry if its an obvious question).
The app is a bit like a CB radio where a web user can pick a channel in their own geographical location. e.g. members of a particular zip area get directed to a room. If the room for that zip does not exist then it's created...
If all users go away the room remains. Other users can jump in etc..
Is the capability there? Anyone know of any close examples I could use ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Kevin

yes, we provide service API that you can call from a separate server that allow you to create and manipulate rooms.
we have libraries for a few languages (ruby, python, php, java, ColdFusion) so it should be pretty easy for you to implement what you describe.

  • General Capability Question

I wish to maintain a "collection" of produced digital video clips that can be web published. Say, on the left side of web page screen, is the video clip field. On the right side, are fields to be filled in by user. (Data to be stored in database). Based on user supplied data in each field, the video would "jump" to the proper clip and play instantly. At the conclusion of enetering data and playing multiple clips, user data needs to be outputted to another database.
Please help...how can this be accomplished??? Final Cut studio? / Flash? / Cold Fusion? / Filemaker? / other database? / Flex?

Thomas is right about this not being the best place to post. Not sure if there is a good forum here to do it in, since it's not an Apple related question.
Lucky for you, I happen to be a web designer. I'm a little confused as to how exactly this interface works (hint: don't make it over complicated), but I'm guessing the basic idea here is to have a user submit input through a form field, have it look up clip data in the database, have it return that data and start playing clips, and then save the timing information of that sequence of clips back to the database. Kind of sounds like a web-based editor. Pretty tricky.
Making this a Flash application would probably be your best on creating a good interface. I don't actually use Flash myself, but it seems like it would be capable. Your other option would be to use HTML and Javascript to build an AJAX interface. I think that would be a lot trickier, and feel a lot less slick.
As far as the backend goes, any of the major server side scripting languages will do the trick. PHP, ASP, Ruby/Rails, Coldfusion, etc. The industry standards for web applications databases are usually mySQL or PostgreSQL.
If this is a serious project, as opposed to simply an experiment, I would look into finding a talented web designer with skills in the above mentioned technologies. This isn't something that can be hacked together quickly, or easily.

  • Droid Pro newbie questions

Hello everyone. I just got my new droid pro yesterday (so far I like it!) but I do have a couple questions.
    1. Whenever I turn on wifi it makes everything on the phone stop working, cant use internet, apps, etc. My husbands iphone connects and works fine so I didnt think it was the router but I am not sure. Any tips would be helpful!
    2. Also  I have a little app/widget thing that was preinstalled from the My Verizon and somtimes it says 3G Data - Unlimited Use. After I try to use the wifi I turned it off and now that little red box says Data Usage - Not connected. I checked my account online and it still has the unlimited data package under my number, is this just an app problem or am I really not connected? Everything works (as long as wifi is off) so I wasnt sure.
    Couple of random questions..
    3. Is there a way to change the background color of text messages? Like in the inbox its black, the same with the default email.
    4. Is there a way to have the date stay at the top of the phone instead of just popping up when you go to click notifications? & Have the % of the battery displayed there?
    5. I have my cell phone charging right now and it seems kind of hot, is that normal?
    6.  I want to shut off the notifications from apps, like yahoo, craigslist etc. but cant seem to figure out where to do that.
    7. Is there a way to "wake up" the phone by pressing a button on keypad and then unlock it instead of the power button?
Sorry there are so many questions, I'm not good with change and with this being my first smartphone Im trying to customize it to how I want it as quickly as possible! lol. Any other droid pro tips that you think I would find helpful is greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!!

    1. There are only a handful of laptop battery producers in Asia. The top 5 laptop vendors (including Apple) seem to buy theirs from Sony (this is why, a couple years ago Apple, Dell, and Toshiba were suing Sony for batteries that warped/caught fire).
    2. Yes. You don't even need a screwdriver, just slide the release and it pops out.
    3. The hardware performs the same. Mac OS X performs better than Windows, not quite as well as Linux (on the same hardware). You can find faster laptops with better video cards, but they cut corners elsewhere or cost more.
    4. General quality. The package is well built, OS X is generally well designed and performs well. The physical case is top-notch. The biggest liability is the region-locked optical drive. I've owned a VAIO and it was without question the worst computer I've ever had -- cheesy case and lots of hardware issues.
    5. Macs in general seem to hold their resale value very well. The hardware is typically supported by Apple for longer than PC hardware is by other vendors.
    6. You got me there, no idea.
    7. Apple typically sells them for 15% - 20% when that happens (check store.apple.com), but don't count on there being much of an inventory.
    8. I'm still working on my first, but the company policy is 3 years.

  • XI Capability Question

    Hi,
i m very new for SAP XI. Since my company intend to use SAP XI to replace original AI system for sales business, I dun know how good SAP XI is. I am thinking of below things:
    1. currently customers only send us their trading partner number in EDI, I need to mapping these trading partner numbers to SAP internal customer number - sold-to party, ship-to party and so. I knew EDPAR table can manage the mapping for orhter partner function mappings except sold-to party. I dun know whether SAP XI can do this mapping or not.
    2. Currently AI can split EDI file into several IDocs because of too many line itmes in one sales order. I am not sure SAP XI can perform IDoc split or not. I knew SAP XI BPM seems be very strong but still not know it much.
If you can provide mroe info about my doubts, please feel free to share. I will appreciate very much.
    Best regards,
    Allen

    Hi Allan,
       Welcome to XI world!!!
XI can definitely do any type of mappings.XI is having different mapping techniques.
    1)Graphical mapping
    2)ABAP mapping
    3)JAVA mapping
    4)XSLT mapping.
Depending upon the requirement and complexity diffrent mappings are choosen.
Yes!! Using XI u can split a IDoc into N nos..... and vice versa...
    Just read the discussion here!!!
    Re: HTTPs
u can search in forum with keyword "Idoc split" and "Idoc merge" u will get a lot!!!
Yes BPM is ..one of the gr8 feature of SAP XI...
read this for a brief idea!!

  • Airport Express capability question

I believe the answer to my question is no, but I thought I would make sure. Can the Airport Express be used to connect my Blu Ray player (downstairs) with to my network wirelessly (wireless router is upstairs)? I guess it would be used as a bridge, but I'm wanting the Ethernet port on the Airport to be active and be connected to my Blu Ray player. I'm basically trying to not have to run a big cable through my house or move my router. Thanks!

Hello fishman77. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Can the Airport Express be used to connect my Blu Ray player (downstairs) with to my network wirelessly (wireless router is upstairs)?
Maybe. In order to connect wirelessly to the wireless router upstairs and enable the AirPort Express Base Station's (AX) Ethernet port for the Blu Ray player, the upstairs router will need to be another AirPort base station. This is so that you can create a Wireless Distribution System (WDS) between the two AirPorts. Very few non-AirPorts are WDS-compatible with AirPorts.

  • Simple capability question

I currently have a D-Link DIR-655 wireless router with 802.11n technology connected to my cable modem. This router gives access to the internet for all device on my network (PCs, PS3, WII, PSP, PS3, Xbox360, Slingbox and my Mac Mini). My question is can I use the Time Capsule as an access point for my Slingbox on my network? The Slingbox is the device that's the longest distance from the D-link wireless router.

I respectfully disagree with Jorge G. I think you can have the TC join your existing wireless network, and then connect the Slingbox via ethernet to the TC.
In fact I have this setup, where I have a wired connection from my laptop to the TC, then the TC connects wirelessly to my existing AEBSN network, which is wired in bridge mode to a Netgear DSL modem/router. I can access the internet from my laptop, proving that this is working over the wireless network.
I know a laptop != a slingbox, but it seems the principle should hold. YMMV.

  • IPhone 4 vs Droid X Battery Question

I currently have the Droid X on Verizon and am fairly pleased with it, but I plan on switching to the iPhone 4 as soon as it is available in February because I see it as a far superior device in the aspects I care about the most. However, after looking up reviews and other peoples' opinions about the battery life, I don't really know what I should do.
Today, after having my Droid X since July 18, I used my phone probably the most I ever have. I took it off the charger this morning at around 9:00am EST, and now at 12:52am EST next day (15 hrs, 52 mins uptime), I have ~25-30% battery left. That's after about 3-3.5 hours of the display being on, probably about 20 minutes of voice calls, a lot of browsing that I didn't keep up with unfortunately, some YouTube watching that I also didn't keep up with, and just random playing-with-my-phone stuff. BT, Wi-Fi, and GPS are all off, the display is set to auto-brightness, and 3G has been on the entire time. I also received a few emails via IMAP Push. All of this is with the standard, stock battery.
Does this sound like what I should expect with the iPhone 4, or should I expect less or more? All of the people I talk to have different things to say about the battery life, and all the comments I read on the internet have me worried that I will not be pleased. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the iPhone hands down. But I want a device that will last me through a day of heavy use and still have considerable juice left over.
    Thanks in advance!!

Most likely you'll get longer battery time with the iP4. I don't use my phone the same way as you (more phone call time, less browsing), BlueTooth, WiFi, Location Services, push email, push notifications always on, and it takes 48-72 hours on before getting down to 20%.
These are the official battery specs, which are accurate:
    Talk time:
Up to 7 hours on 3G
Up to 14 hours on 2G (GSM model only)
Standby time: Up to 300 hours
    Internet use:
Up to 6 hours on 3G
Up to 10 hours on Wi-Fi
Video playback: Up to 10 hours
Audio playback: Up to 40 hours

  • MacBook Air (base model) capability questions.

    Hello everyone,
I've been looking at the 11" MacBook Air, I like its size and weight because my work takes me on small float planes and small boats and I must always keep my personal pack compact and lightwieght, and yes im counting ounces.  There is always power available where I'm headed, as I am the elecrician/mechanic sent in to work on the generators ect.(making battery life a minor consideration) The computer will be used for icloud, email, Pages, Numbers, web searches, iTunes (for podcasts & 4-8 GB of music to sync with iPod), maybe an episode of Walking Dead, and facetime. All of which the Air can handle from what I understand. What would be great is a basic 2D drafting type program to make it all I need. I was looking at iDraw and it looks exactly like what I'd need, basicaly a step up from a paint program to draw stright lines, a grid, add scales, text and import the images into Pages.  The only requirments I can find for iDraw is: Intel, Mac OS X 10.6 or later.  My questions are; Does this mean the processor is not important for iDraw? What version of OS X comes with the Air 11"?  Can anyone tell me I am asking too much from the Air at this point? For $100 more I can upgrade the memory to 8GB and Apple will ship the Air with OS X Mountain Lion. But if I dont need to I'd rather not unless this Mountain Lion is awesome I just dont know. (Our MacBook Pro at home is stuck at OS X 10.5.8 and can not support the latest iTunes that supports the Mrs' iPhone 5 but that is her problem and im off topic) I've droped a number of things in the ocean, you never know who is helping you with boat to boat, boat to plane transfers, I dont want an iPad because for that price I rather have a little more computing available and spend the extra money on an Air.
This is the bottom end 11.6" Air (mid 2012) that I have been look at.
    1.7GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor
    Turbo Boost up to 2.6GHz
    4GB memory
    64GB flash storage1
    Intel HD Graphics 4000
    OS X (version ??????)
    Thank you

Looking at its form factor, the somewhat savvy computer user might think the 11" MBA is a netbook - with all the negatives that entails. Not so - it is a very powerful computer in a small package. Besides iDraw, you might want to look at Intaglio and EazyDraw for your drawing needs - both of which can be found here for a downloadable demo.
Looking at your specs, I strongly urge you to upgrade the hard drive from 64 to 128GB - I only recommend the 64GB model for people who need a second home computer. It is way to easy to fill up that hard drive - especially if you intend to keep any digital media like music and video. You'll be getting OS X 10.8 - Mt Lion - BTW.

  • Droid x2 camera question

is there a way to take switch to a front facing camera on the droid x2? if not then is there a way to take a picture not having to use the touch screen but by pressing a side button?

Rose214, I’m here to help with your camera inquiries.
The Droid X2 does not have a front facing camera and there is no way to add one. The only way to take a picture is by using the touch screen. You cannot use the side button to take the picture.

  • Droid 3 101 Question: Cut & Paste

I've had difficulties with cut and paste (if it really even exists).  I may get an email address or link, that I need to copy and then mail to someone or put in an email or document.  The documentation talks about selecting text and then copying it.
First it's unclear how to select text.  Sometimes I see it, then I highlight something and then there is no option to copy.  If I go to the place I want to put it, I only see another option to select.
Nothing in help in Verizon or the manual.

Maybe this is a Droid 3 anomally.  I can double tap til the cows come home but nothing happens in applications.  And the only long slide I know is how I turn the phone on, and I'm trying everything like that and nothing happens.  Maybe this is something unique to the D3?
Every so often, when I am in edit mode, I get these things (maybe this is what you call selectors) that look like the very old fashioned wooden triangular vises.  I've yet to find out how to move them.  It's so silly that there is no reference to them in the "reference manual," and that the supposedly intuitive phone expects me to know how these move.  I've worked with operating systems before DOS and I will learn them all, but at least allow me to find guidance somewhere.

  • General java sound capability questions

im trying to get a handle on the basics of what i can do with sound in java. ive read a lot of pages but there are still some ambiguities.
what i want to do ideally is have an applet that takes sound from the client microphone and records the sound file on a server. so:
if this were an applet, would it require me to first save the sound file locally (and therefore sign the applet?) or can the sound be saved in memory somehow without creating a "file" per se - then moved to the server? if it could be done does it require JMF?
i read that an applet cannot convert the file format client-side. does that mean the file would have to be uploaded in an uncompressed format?
a java webstart app is also acceptable for my purposes. can someone advise if that is the best way to go?
can a web start app do the following:
    - connect to a database (on the server)?
    - record / compress / upload a sound?
if so, i guess java web start is the way to go... if you know any good resources for any of these issues please let me know... thanks!

    Hey Gang,
I know that the general rule here is to try your code first then ask why it doesn't work but my questions right now are more conceptual than anything else. I know a little (very little, really) about Java and some of it's capabilities. I've been thinking about possibly converting a MS Access Utility that I use into a Java program. The MS Access version can be a little unstable and I think by moving to Java, I can eliminate that problem. But, I want to be sure that Java can do everything I need it to do before I spend a lot of time only to find I can't get there from here. These are my initial questions:
    1. I have to run several reports from a large Oracle system. Currently, I export the data as Excel files and link the Access database to them. Using Java, will I be able to export as text files (daily) and have the program read the text and treat it like a database file? The short answer is NO. The more lengthy answer is yes, but you can attach to Excel spreadsheets through ODBC (JDBC/ODBC Bridge) and use them as a database the same way Access did.
    2. Part of the output of the Access database feeds MS Word mail-merge documents that are used to send e-mail messages. Will Java format and send e-mail via Outlook? NO, but you can send mail with the Java Mail API.
    3. The second half of the output is an Excel Workbook with re-formatted and cleaned report data from the original files. Can Java dynamically pass information to Excel and create the various worksheets necessary to display the data the way management wants to see it? NO
Now having said all of that, there is the Java interface through OpenOffice, which will support MS-Office documents. The MS Office products are Windoz specific, and as such, there are some 3rd party Classes out there that will interface to them, but not directly from Sun's standard API.
