Droid X - Clear all Contact History

Verizon, will you be updating system soon to be deleting the so many histories in the contact listings?  No need for this feature, at first I thought all my contacts were doublicating until I realized I can scroll to left or right....also a Manual really should of been included in with the phone.  My phone needed to be rebooted while out in the Mtns and could not do because the instruction manual to do so was in the Droid.
Please address contact issue and idea to add a actual manual with the phone for future Droids.  PS better tips on how to use would be great instead of me to google everytime.

As far as clearing the history, I have placed a couple of calls to Verizon techs, and this morning spoke to someone named Jane at Motorola. They were unaware that this is impossible with the X and noted it for a software update. Until I saw your msg, I thought I was the only one who has discovered this problem.

You have to follow the process outlined here to recover contacts from an iCloud backup: Recovering deleted iCloud contacts from an iCloud backup..  Otherwise, as you have noticed, the recovered contacts are overwritten when your device reconnects to iCloud.

  • It used to be when I cleared all the history it cleared the search bar. It no longer does that. Can anyone tell me why?

You can clear the search bar history if you right-click the search bar text area: Clear Search History<br />
You can also use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear "Form & Search History"

  • Clear All Contacts

Ok, I have synced my iphone with my computer, but I didn't want to sync my contacts. I did it without knowing. Now, I would like to clear all the contacts from my iphone, so I don't have all of the email contacts in my contacts folder on my phone. I can't seem to find an easy way to do it, without doing it one at a time (I have over 2000---that could take me awhile!)? Any suggestions?

I have the same problem. I have a small yahoo addresses account with about 100 contacts that I want on the iphone. My email is full of stuff I might use occasionally for EMAIL but not want to have to page through to make a call. This is a serious management blunder/overlook/outlook whatever you want to call it.
The way I want to use the iphone for the time being is as follows:
    - I want to have my PHONE contacts backed up on my confuser. I use Yahoo Address
    - I want to listen to my Music.
    - I want to text.
    - I don't want all my outlook/outlook express contacts in my iphone.
    - At this point, I dont even want to do email on my iphone. I reserve the right to change my mind on that.
So, I encountered the same issue. It's kind of like FINO technology with respect to contacts. "First In, Never Out". I don't care of you check the "Replace..." button at the bottom.
The only way I can figure out how to manage this, until hopefully some smart person weighs in and corrects me is the following:
1 - Create contacts you want in the phone in Yahoo Address.
2 - Review said address book and scrutinize for accuracy.
3 - Export said address book to your confuser as a backup.
4 - Completely reset and erase your iphone. Yeah, I know, I hate it too.
    5 - Close Outlook
6 - Sync your iphone as a "new" phone. The good news is your phone doesn't lose it's registration, etc.
7 - Only sync the contacts. Uncheck the calendar, music(check the "manage music manually" box), etc.
8 - Add these things back one at a time. Once your contacts have synced, check them and make sure they are accurate per your version on Yahoo addresses.
9 - Then uncheck contacts and check Calendar (If you want to use it)and sync again.
10 - Then uncheck contacts and uncheck "Manage Music Manually" box and sync again to load your music.
At this point, you should be at a resonable point. Pain in the Butt, tho. I'm sure I'm probably doing too much and it should work this way and that way, but I'm tired of fooling with this stuff, while the smart guys at Apple did a great job of anticipating how one might want to use the phone on one level, I think they missed the boat on enabling people to manage it for slightly different uses. Having said that, I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt in that I expect more refinement as time goes on. A great option would be the ability to delete multiple contacts for when you get in this state. Hope this helps and sorry for the novella.

  • Can I clear all the history for a selected site like CNN, not just one "reference" at a time for CNN

I want to be able to clear certain parts of history. Not all of it for a time, and not just one "entry" at a time. For example: I have lots of entries in history for CNN or ESPN website. Can i remove all of the CNN entries at one time? Clearing it in that kind of grouping. I hope this is clear I am not so good with computer lingo. Thanks

You can also use a colon (:) that is present to specify the protocol in the search bar.
In the site bar you can sort by visited date and in the library you can click a column header (e.g. location) to the the history items.
Note that you can copy (drag/drop) history items to a bookmarks folder to save (preserve) them as bookmarks.
You would need to use a place: query and create a so called smart folder to have more control.

  • I've tried all the advice found in the troubleshoot area, i cleared all my history/cookies/cache and I firefox still wont allow gmail to load

As stated in the question, I've tried various troubleshooting options found in the help area and on different forums, non of them helped. I tried starting in safe mode and cleared my history, cookies, and cache using the everything option. When I try to load any google related site I get an untrusted connection. While most of these is accompanied by "i understand the risks" and allow me to add it as an exception, gmail does not. Is there a way to stop this from happening, either by giving me the actual certificate for the site or telling me a way to remove this property from firefox?

Check the date and time in the clock on your computer: (double) click the clock icon on the Windows Taskbar.
Check out why the site is untrusted and click "Technical Details to expand this section.<br>If the certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided (sec_error_unknown_issuer) then see if you can install this intermediate certificate from another source.
You can retrieve the certificate and check details like who issued certificates and expiration dates of certificates.
*Click the link at the bottom of the error page: "I Understand the Risks"
Let Firefox retrieve the certificate: "Add Exception" -> "Get Certificate".
*Click the "View..." button and inspect the certificate and check who is the issuer of the certificate.
You can see more Details like intermediate certificates that are used in the Details pane.
If <b>"I Understand the Risks"</b> is missing then this page may be opened in an (i)frame and in that case try the right-click context menu and use "This Frame: Open Frame in New Tab".
*Note that some firewalls monitor (secure) connections and that programs like Sendori or FiddlerRoot can intercept connections and send their own certificate instead of the website's certificate.
*Note that it is not recommended to add a permanent exception in cases like this, so only use it to inspect the certificate.

  • How can I close ALL tabs and clear the entire history?

Since an update, I can no longer clear all my history... I cannot close a remaining tab. As much as thios has been my favorite browser, I am annoyed at the failure to protect privacy, and am considering deleting this entire program. Please give me a way to correct this and return to an earlier version.

To close the tab you're viewing, you can press Ctrl+w. Does that still leave an uncloseable tab? Is it a built-in page or a page on the web?
There are many methods to delete history in Firefox. Which is the one you're using to clear history? Is it one of these?
    * Menu: History > Clear Recent History
    * Library dialog (Ctrl+Shift+h): select entire list > right-click > Delete this page

  • Can't open my attached files on my yahoo email account unless clearing all history on Firefox - this is maddening!! Help!

Everytime I want to open an attached file on my yahoo email, I now have to clear all the history including: Browsing and download history, Form and search history, cookies, and cache before I can open attachments on my yahoo mail and then I have to re-enter all my passwords, etc.
This was previously not a problem opening any attached files like PDF files or document files.
    Please help!

    Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''
    Thank you.

  • How to delete all contacts on my iPhoto 3 GS and start over

I ended up syncing to multiple sources and have massive duplicates in my iPhone 3 GS - I want to delete all contact on it and resync only to my exchange server at the office
I have turned off sync contacts on the iPhoto with both e-mail accounts (MobileMe and exchange) and have turned off all sync of contacts and calendar in iTunes - now I want to clear all contacts off of the iPhoto (there are almost 4000) and re-enable just exchange but can not find out how to do that in searching these forums or in the iPhoto help on Apple.com
    How do I do this?
    LN

I inadvertantly sync'd both through iTunes and MobileMe when I got my 3GS. I found several posts/apple articles about backing up and deleting my contacts on my iMac. It sounded like a hassle with risks of losing them.
I restored my phone as a new phone. I did not restore from a backup as that would have restored the duplicates.
Once it was restored I had to re-sync everything. Obviously making sure that I was only syncing through MobileMe.

  • How do I clear contact history Droid X 2.3.3

The old method from version 2.2 no longer works. My contacts list won't scroll right or left. How do I locate contact history droid x version 2.3.3?

Go into your Contact list. Tap once on a specific contact. A menu will pop up with "Contact History" included.  Select this option, then select clear.  This will clear the history.  There is no "clear all" option tho, so you will have to go thru each specific contact.

Hi I'm running Addressbook and cannot clear previous entry easily when searching my data base of around 5,000 contacts.
I prefer to view in All contacts on a double page spread with details on the right page.  Searching doesn't seem to work correctly in this view.
It's always the second search that is problematic.
I've tried typing over and all it seems to do is confine the search to the the entries that have come up for the previous search.
I've tried to use the x to clear the previous entry and then type the next search, same problem.  The only way seems to be to move from "All Contacts" to "Groups".  Then the searched name appears and I can return to All Contacts to see full details.
Surely three key press' are not the way it's supposed to work?

  • How do I clear all personal data bookmarks history etc and import data from safari

I have a MacBookpro 10.6.8 and I am trying to clear ALL personal data on my new Firefox 12 (Bookmarks History etc) and then import all settings from my Safari. I've deleted the Firefox application as well as Library/application support/mozilla and Firefox still retains all of the old settings (Bookmarks History etc) from the old version 3
    How do I do this.
    Thanks

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
Make sure that Firefox is closed (Firefox > Quit Firefox) when you remove files in the profile folder.
You can also create a new profile.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
You can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile if you want to keep some data.
