Droid X Gingerbread Fiasco

Is there any word on the fix for Gingerbread (the update that was forced onto us in late May)? My phone has been a piece of garbage since 5/27/11, and I am getting sick of the rhetoric. Please help!

Feel better? Yeah, that's what you got out of my post. The need to correct my spelling. Good one!
You can believe what you want, but it was not a choice.
Isn't the update section your reminder? How do you know it just sat in your update section? If you truly waited for weeks, you did not do enough research, because you never would have agreed to the update had you seen all the negativity out there regarding it. At least I never would have.
The fact that VZW won't respond to this post should be an indication that they don't want to engage in this topic.

Sorry, couldn't find a way to correct grammar in my last post!
Really? Not forced on you? You are a little nieve!
As for the soak test, you are right. However, we were misled that our input would matter. ALL of the issues that are now on the table were brought up during the soak test. They did not listen, nor apparently care. Head over to the Moto owners forum for further info.
Naive, you mean?
It wasn't forced on me. I had to go FIND it to get it on mine - and I waited weeks to decide if I wanted to or not - never got any reminders, pop-ups, anything. It just stayed in my updates section on my phone until I went and looked for it.

  • Droid 2 Gingerbread issues

I have the Droid 2, and did the Gingerbread update in September 2011. Since then I have been having strange issues, and from what I have read online, I am in good company. And of course, prior to update my phone had none of these issues, and I have had it for over a year!  ...My poor Droid.
My main issue is my phone rebooting itself on it's own will...and at very random times. It locks itself up,goes black, and reboots.
It seems to get hung up, and then give up
It also will lock up and not allow the screen to orient itself in the correct direction.
I don't think I am getting some messages /emails /phone calls as they come in (as people have said "I just tried to call you"...etc.), or get a mysterious voicemail...when the phone never rung???
I have done a "soft reset" multiple times, but am afraid of tanking it entirely if I do a "hard reset".
I don't have a lot of junky apps on it either, and stay on top of what is running and not running. So I don't believe that is the problem.
Thankfully at least I have not had any battery issues.
Any help would be great...or I may be buying a new phone.
Opinions on the Bionic are also welcome!
    Thanks.

Well...I went to a Verizon store yesterday, and I explained to the sales associate there what was going on. Without even having tech support look at my phone she told me to download the Gingerbread keyboard(because my keyboard wasn't working), and to just lock the orientation on the screen to solve that issue. Then to top it all of...she offered to sell me home phone service...
There was no answer as to why the phone locks up and reboots at random.
Not the best experience by any means. I just said "Well I guess I'll just see what happens"...and left.
I know she was just doing her job, but it didn't really help me at all.

  • Droid 2 Gingerbread 2.3.3 Update-ITS HORRIBLE

I am so frustrated with this update for many reasons...
ONE: I didn't have a choice to update or not.
TWO: I can no longer select multiple contacts to send/Fwd a text message. The stupid phone says "No suggestions yet. After I have used the phone a little more, I will find suggestions here that will give me instant access to the people I message the most." THIS IS A BUNCH OF CRAP! I don't want suggestions that people that I message the most! I WANT MY CONTACT LIST BACK! I should be able to get my whole list so I can choose who I want to send/fwd the message to!
THREE: The battery is HORRIBLE! I could go two days or longer(depending how often I used it) without charging it. Now I'm lucky if I can go a whole day without charging it. I have to take my charger with me everywhere I go and pray there is an outlet where I'm going.
FOUR: My phone now freezes, shuts itself off, and toggling through the screens are so much slower.
PLEASE GIVE ME MY OLD PHONE BACK! I USE TO LOVE MY DROID 2.

According to some at the motorola forum's. Verizon has now made the update optional. Would like to know if this is true has anybody else who's phone has not been updated yet had the option to decline this so called update?

  • Droid 2 gingerbread.

Why is every tech website claiming that the gingerbread release is past the soak stage and available for OTA update to all starting today , and people are saying they have gotten the update already today, but I still see no download???
I even saw a page from the motorola website with a statement saying that the soak test was a success and that it was being released officially starting 11:59 last night.

  • Droid X Gingerbread Bluetooth Bug

My droid x will no longer "auto connect" to bluetooth devices.
With Froyo I could just turn my car on and it would automatically connect to my stereo... or automatically connect to my laptop, whatever.
Now I have to go into my stereo and manually initiate the connection (They have already been paired).
Or on my laptop, manually say "connect to Droid X" to initiate the connection.
I have set my phone to automatically connect and my car stereo is set to automatically connect as well... Yet it will no longer auto-connect. Very annoying.
(Car is set to connect to phone as an audio device, not as a phone)

I run into a problem once in a while with my bluetooth headset not connecting up the first time I turn it on. It doesn't happen very often. When I turn off my headset, then turn it back on, 99% of the time it reconnects, and only a oouple of times I had to cycle the headset power again.
I have the bluetooth off until I am heading for the car. I always turn the bluetooth on at the phone first, then turn the headset on.
If I turn the headset on first, then the phone, it seems to have a harder time connecting correctly. This happened back in the Froyo days too.

  • Droid 2 Global Gingerbread User Guide?

Is there a User Guide available for Droid 2 Global with the GIngerbread update?
The info sheet here (http://support.verizonwireless.com/pdf/system_update/droid_2_global.pdf) shows all sorts of "enhancements" but not how to use them.  For example, how do you set up app groups, and what on earth is "Multi-Touch Key-Chording"?
The link to "Device Manual" (http://support.verizonwireless.com/clc/devices/index.html?p=5567&m=)
links to the pre-update (Android 2.2 Froyo) manual.
    Thanks!

DatGyrlVida, if the phone bugs you so much, get a different phone and pay for the change. Your rant and near flaming are not needed here. Your phone frequency problem could be anything, including the junk of apps you probably installed on the Droid interferring with the phone's operations. If you want some assistance on this forum, please describe your phone issues professionally and we can see if we can resolve it together.
And no, I do not work for VerizonWireless.
My experience with my Droid 2 Global is that I had it replaced three times under warranty due to loss of 3G connection, and a reboot could not resolve it. I since then purchased My Backup Pro app to do a complete phone backup, so if I need to replace the phone again (to my SD card or private cloud), I can reimage it. Plus, whenever I install a new app, I do a full backup beforehand so if the app corrupts my phone (or interfers with any phone operation like reception), I can do a reimage on the phone to the previous working state. Uninstalling the offending app does not necessarily remove the junk from its installation. Something for you to consider...

  • Fix for gingerbread droid x......tired of rebooting phone.

I don't know about any of you, but I'm sick of hearing and having to reboot my phone to solve problems. When is the patch for gingerbread coming for the original droid x? I am tired of laggy keyboards, no LED light for missed calls, and all the other bugs I cant think of. Gingerbread is good, but verizon and motorola you guys can make it great for this phone. Hurry up

    Hi B33,
I am glad to let you know that since 08/15/11, an update is coming out in phases for the Droid X  update for Gingerbread. This update will be pushed out in batches, so please check the device periodically by following these steps.
    Press menu
    Press Settings
    Press About Phone
    Press System Updates
If you do not show the update on the first try, please do not be discouraged, since it is being released in stages. I would recommend checking it once or twice a day. Once pressing System Updates, if the update is available, he device will tell you and give you the option to download it.
Please make sure that you have at lest 50% battery life when performing this update.
Hdere is a link for the steps of the upgrade, as well as the benefits.

  • Did VZW ever say that Gingerbread will be coming to the Droid Charge?

I do not think they are obligated.
However....    did VZW ever say that Gingerbread will be coming to the Droid Charge?  (in TV commercials, print ads,

Inhanced vid cap features work. More stable network protocols work, newer flash version works. Much better battery manager, vattery life extendded even with fancy weather report features and animations.
Please no Verizon bull crap preloaded.....
There is a reason you can't access certain apps in market palce durign testing, they are blocked. THE leaks maintain the blocks, the last beta testers builds have more access and that included with aps needign compatibility testing.
    Thanks for that information.

  • Droid X and Gingerbread

I love my Droid X but since the gingerbread upgrade it has gone downhill fast. The phone has the latest updates but app shortcuts disappear at random, apps are slow to open up, typing lags horribly and random reboots and lockups occur. Anyone else having these issues? I want my Froyo back!!! This really sucks!!

    Good morning mylilmule.
I would be upset with all the issues you listed.  Especially if it all started around the same time.  Have we done any troubleshooting?  Have you cleared the cache since the update?  Also, you can try putting the device in Safe Mode to see if this is caused by the software, or possibly a third party application.  Please try these two options.  If you're still having same problems, please send me a Private Message, and I will be happy to assist you.

  • Gingerbread Update for HTC Droid Incredible

Here we go it's the Official thread for the upcoming "Gingerbread 3.0" update for the Droid Incredible.
Float this thread to the top of your page to always see whats new and never stay out of the loop!
    Tag often!
Here is some basic info regarding the new upcoming update. If you have any new information PLEASE update this thread and attach some links for all of us to follow.
Android 3.0 Gingerbread will be released in mid- October (around 15 -16th), 2010. First handsets shipping in November/December – for the Holiday Season.
Minimum hardware requirements for Android 3.0 devices are: 1GHZ CPU, 512MB or RAM, displays from 3.5” and higher.  (We all, of course, heard that Android handsets with 2GHz CPU’s are coming)
New 1280×760 resolution available for the devices with displays of 4” and higher. (Anyone thinking about Android tablets now? )
Completely revamped user interface. If you want to get a feeling of what Android 3.0 Gingerbread UX is like, check out the Gallery app on Nexus One. The same overall feel, light animated transitions, etc. Natively, through all the UI.
Android’s split into 2 branches becomes official. 3.0 for top of the line/high end devices. Cheap, low-end mass market handsets will keep Android 2.1/2.2
Just a few jabs to get the fire started. Keep it nice here please, and lets help each other be the highest informed forum on the net!                                            GO GINGERBREAD!!!!!

As I can see from your specs, we won't benefit from this update at all. Useless update. The new resolution would only be compatible with screens 4' and above.
With all the features we have now, what else are we gonna need?
Besides that, not even all Incredible ownsers have Froyo yet, it's too early to talk about some Gingerbread. Not even all Froyo users use all of its new features, such as 3G Hotspot and bugging apps that came with the update.
I'm just wondering what would Gingerbread bring that will make me like this phone more than I already do. Nothing.

  • Gingerbread Bricked my Droid X

Yesterday I downloaded and installed the Gingerbread update but something is wrong. The phone wont turn on nor will it boot to the factory reset menu. The red M randomly pops up but then it goes away again, any advise

Did the phone actually WORK at some point after you installed it?  Did it have sufficient power - e.g., plugged in to wall charger during update? did you let it wait long enough during the install? Reason I ask is there is a long "pause" on the red MOTO logo during the install. If you interrupted that, all bets are off.
Are you using THESE procedures to get to the Power-up MENU ?  If so, from there you can try the Factory Wipe & Reset. Else time to go to the Verizon store and have them reset it.
    Power Device Off First.....
    1. Hold Home Button and press power
    2. Screen will show a Android with a triangle with astrick
    3. Let Go of Home Button and Power
    4. Press BOTH up & down volume buttons at same time
    5. A blue menu will show at top of page, using volume control buttons, scroll to Format Device and press the Power button to select
    6. Select Yes to verify
    7. Allow format to complete (Information at bottom of page will go through a few steps)
    8. Once Format is complete Blue Menu will show at top again, select Reboot
Note: Use volume up and down to select menu otion and use Power button as Enter

  • Get this Gingerbread junk off my Droid 2- HELP!

This update has basically caused my phone to stop working in almost every way possible.
It freezes every 5 minutes so can't email anyone or go on the web, the calendar goes off at times its not set to, the calls are hardly audible, and I could go on.
I just want the old 2.2 Froyo back until these 2.3 update issues are fixed.
My phone is not rooted, have no idea what that even means much less how to do it. Can I get my Droid 2 back to the prior OS? Or am I stuck with a phone that works 1/4 of the time??
    Please advise. Thank you

There isn't any way to reverse the update, by chance have you tried hard resetting the device because under some situations apps that was installed causes issues with software updates...  Usually backup data and hard resetting the device will resolve a number of issues.
    Hard Reset Process..
    1. Turn the Droid 2 off. If it’s frozen and you cannot turn it off, pull and replace the battery.
    2. Open the keyboard and press the X key while pressing Power. The device will power on. Keep holding the X button down until a white triangle with yellow exclamation mark appears.
    3. Press the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons simultaneously to bring up the menu. (You may have to try this a few times before it works)
    4. Select the Wipe data factory reset option. Use the Power key to confirm it.
    5. Tap wipe data/factory reset then tap OK.
    6. Select Yes – delete all user data.
    7. Highlight reboot system now is highlighted then tap OK

  • UGH! Gingerbread has ruined my Droid X

Ever since the update my phone freezes, locks, and nothing works. What can I do to a) fix it b) go back to the previous system 3) chuck my phone out the darn window.

If removing the card resolves your issues then have you tried backing up and wipe card, there may be some data on the card from old installation that cause you issues..
