Droid X: random pauses and freezing (but no reboots)

This is my first Android phone.  The phone frequently stops responding to touch inputs for several seconds at a time.  It can be in the middle of typing (usually using Swype), or navigating through the Home screen, or interacting with an app.  The physical buttons always react immediately, but the touch screen does not.  Is this considered normal?  It's pretty annoying.
I'm running system 1.13.604.MB810.Verizon.en.US, firmware 2.1-update1

Alright People There are more users out there having the issue. My guess is they are not savy enough to post or dont realize the reboots, caus eit literally only takes 30 sec to reboot, unlike BB tour. So it may not be as apparent. Also other not I just spent 3hrs today back and forth with Verizon an Moto to resolve yet again another rebooting issue with My x. And ladies and Gents this is my second x I will soon have a 3rd. My 1st had issues with in the first week, the second last about a month. Lets seee how long the 3rd lasts. I get it next week. For Moto engineer readers. My phone has 3 apps installed. One game from market ( Robo Defense) google maps and auto task. Im also experienced with both phones gps droping and having to retart phone manually to find a sat as well as screen freezing and locking sometimes to the point of needing reboot. My 3g hot spot sometimes needs a reboot to work. It seems to get caught in a loop, I cant remember what happens exactly but a reboot is needed to resolve. What else, oh I use the phone costantly more than most I travel aalot and its constantly charging so I can be intouch with clients via email, sms, web interface as well of a course a phone voice. The phone sits in a silicon case for protection and I have a holster (leather) to put it in. Its in sometimes the phone gets warm. I also have noticed when the phone is just running sys files the ram is way to high and this concerns me maybe its overheated possibly cap issue not really sure. If there is a developer that cares about makin those that are having continuing issue just reply. I also apreciate u increasing the vol settings cause they are horribly low. Also not u should increase the alarm volume as well as many users use there phone as an alarm clock these days, if thats not already adressed under speaker volume and ringtones. Thanks

  • Has the new model 160gb classic solved the random pauses and gaps problem?

Just wondering if the apple morons have solved the problems that the last 2 generation classics had with the random pauses and gaps?
I binned the first model 160gb that came out 2 years ago and went back to the 5th gen 80gb model which plays perfect.
If they have finally fixed the problem with the new classics, i'll be picking a new 160gb up, but not until i hear what people who already own them have to say first.

well your one lucky customer. having bought a 2009 ipod and no hard drive issues. i bought one and i got it to sync music and photos. but than it paused and restarted it and i got the red x. so i returned it and they exchanged it for a brand new still in the sealed box ipod and it was the same thing again. im gonna try sending it in. if it still happens, than im gonna have to refund.

  • My Ipod Classic 120GB crashes all the time while using it, there is an Apple that comes up and it restarts and sometimes a miscolored screen.  It randomly pauses and skips songs as well.Help?

Not sure why it does this but it has been for the past few year and I'm finally getting tired of it.  Any way to solve this problem?  It randomly skips and pauses songs and if its doesn;t it last about 10 minutes or so and then freezes with an apple on the screen and also a miscolored apple on the screen.  Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Does the iPod get overheated after 10 minutes?
Do the iPod Disk Diagnostic, as posted earlier by tt2, it wont solve your problem, but help in troubleshooting.

  • Iphone 5 locks up and does random things and freezes

I have an iphone 5 that randomly freezes, starts apps on it's own, types when I am not typing, video goes astray when playinmg games.  I am ready to throw this thing out the window.  I called Apple Support and they said it is a software glitch.  I tried multiple time restoring from computer backup and from Icloud but symtoms don't go away.  Has this happened to anybody else?  How do you fix it@

Hi...thanks for the advice but it still has random things happening and gets unresponsive. I have backed up and restored from my computer and the cloud. Neither worked. I resorted to erasing the phone and starting as a new phone but I am getting the same random problems. For example, i open the camera app but I  can't take a picture. If I touch the escape button on the top of the phone and open the same app I sometimes can take a picture.
Forget about playing games with graphics. Nothing responds well with games.  The weirdest thing is when you launch email and the phone just starts typing random characters and letters.
I think I have to bite the bullet and get s replacement phone.
PS i use a lifeproof case and the problem occurs randomly with or without the case.

  • Classic Random Pauses and Gaps

Is there any news on fixing the Classic 160Gb random Pause issue?
I can be listening to my iPod in the car and itll be fine for 10 or so songs then mid-song it will pause for a second or so then continue playback. Its not in a dock or anything, just sat there playing away.
    Maybe its a caching issue?
I hope its a software thing and will be fixed soon as currently the iPod isnt fit for purpose. Could it be a hardware issue and Ive got a dodgy iPod?
I hear a few others have this problem.

I am really annoyed by it as well, but all I could find was this board that seems to go completely unnoticed by apple. I live in Mexico, so calling support would be completely irrelevant.. they'd ask me several stupid questions and it will end nowhere since they don't have the authority about such issues.
I'd cal the US if necessary, I am that annoyed.. but I believe that US customers would be the best way to get to Apple.. or a mail where we could send out complaints...
Thsi things never happened with my iPod Video 80 GB, which had the exact same lossless tracks.

  • Random Pauses and Skips in Playback

Apparently others are having a similar problem. I get random skips or pauses in songs on playback in the iPod; mostly, these pauses are minute hesitations that will grow more noticeable over time to the point of even skipping songs or just stop playing in the middle of one. This anomaly occurred in a 3G 40GB and my current color 60GB. Music totals about 28 GBs of mostly ripped Apple Lossless, 192 ACC, just a few mp3s and some purchased tunes. I do not believe this is a headphone issue, as it will "skip" regardless of headphones or cable connected even when the iPod is completely stationary. Playback of the same music, even streaming over Airtunes, reveals no skips in the "original" music in iTunes to which the iPod is connected and synced.
Restoring the iPod only lessens the severity of the pauses (and believe me this has been done many times). I have also deleted iTunes libraries, xml files and preferences, but none of this seems to make any difference. Both the iPod and iTunes source drives have gone through the disk maintenance of DiskWarrior, repair permissions (source drive) and so forth.
Occasionally, after Restoring and on the initial sync of the iPod, I get the error message "Cannot read from or write to this disk". The 60GB iPod is less than a month old and I shows no disk problems; the same problem occurred with the 40GB iPod. Occurs with both the USB2 and FW ports.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • Lion crashes and freezes, but mouse can move.

    I have a 15'' MacBook Pro from late 2010. 2.4 Ghz i5 with 4 GB RAM.
I installed Lion the day it came out and I've been experiencing the same weird freezing problem.
I tried to keep track of when it would freeze (as in what apps were open and such) but it has happened in all sorts of conditions. It's frozen probably 6 times now and 4 times were watching a video on full screen safari. One was when I booted from sleep, and another was just in Finder.
I have already reinstalled Lion once (holding Cmd+R at the boot screen), but the issue still happens.
What happens is that the application I'm running (mostly Safari) crashes and goes to the beach ball. When I force quit it, it asks if I want to report the issue (I do) and then after that the system freezes. The odd thing is that I can move my mouse around. Many times I've just force shut down from there. But one time I just pressed the power button and it asked if I wanted to shut down. When that happened, it shut down but stayed at a white screen with a grey loading circle thing (it's moving) and just stayed there for over an hour before I force shut down again.
I was wondering if anyone had the same problem and if anyone knew how I could fix it??
Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hi sherwu,
there are several ways to fix this problem described in this thread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3191083?start=0&tstart=0
Having the same issue with the same 15" model the easiest and working fix for me was to deactivate the automatic graphic switching in the energy saving panel in the system preferences.

  • Random restarts and freezes. Just upgraded my RAM trying to diagnose new RAM as the problem but they pass Rember test.

Hey so I have been dealing with random reboots and computer freezes since upgrading my RAM. I also reinstalled my 10.8.2 at the same time I upgraded my RAM. I have a Mac Mini Mid 2011 with the OWC Data Doubler Kit and a Crucial M4 128GB Boot drive. My computer reboots every 30 minutes or so and sometimes completely freezes up. I am trying to figure out if the new RAM is the issue as I can send them back. I have ran several Rember RAM tests but the computer freezes mid test so I can not see the issue. All other times it completeles the RAM test with no issues.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

Reinstall the original memory and see whether there's any improvement. Be careful not to touch the gold contacts on the memory modules when handling them. If necessary, clean them with a mild solvent such as rubbing alcohol.
The Apple Hardware Test, though generally unreliable, will sometimes detect a fault. A negative test can't be depended on. Run the extended version of the test.

  • Help me troubleshoot my iMac | random SPOD and freezes

ok, I am 1 step away from literally throwing this iMac out the window, but maybe someone has got an advice before I do so.
In the beginning of 2009, my iMac's harddrive went bad.
I was able to rescue everything via target mode so no big deal. I went and bought a new harddrive for it and replaced it myself. I found a very good guide for the whole procedure and after that I installed a fresh copy of OSX 10.4 on it.
Since then the system would start to do random freezes, sometimes for all running applications, and sometimes for just one or two simultaneously.
The freezes normally lasts between 10 seconds to 4 minutes and I have so far (1 year later) not been able to discover any kind of logic/pattern in these freezes.
Sometimes I can run a plethora of programs at the same time (iMovie, Photoshop, Quicktime, Safari, Pages etc) and everything goes fine for hours. Some times it will take me minutes to just launch Safari or Textmate.
Now, it isn't as though I haven't tried doing anything about it, it just that so far nothing have worked out.
Here is a list of things I have tried since it started in 2009
    - Running Repair Permissions (Disk Utility or holding down SHIFT when booting)
    - Running maintenance programs like Onyx, MacJanitor, Maintenance, iTools
    - Fixing font issues using FontBook, LinoType and FontNuke
    - Replacing/Upgrading RAM (I went from 1gb to 3gb)
    - Testing RAM with memtest
    - Running Disk Warrior
    - Disabling various processes/services (spotlight/mds etc.)
    - Uninstalling/upgrading/downgrading programs (mostly programs that I use alot like Firefox and Safari)
    - Upgrading the OS (first to Leopard, and then to Snow Leopard)
    - Re-installing OS X (I have tried different combinations like re-installing to Tiger, then upgrading to Leopard and SL, re-installing to Leopard without upgrading etc.)
There might be more but I really cannot remember.
Of course my focus has been mainly on the harddrive itself since this was the piece that got replaced, but everytime I run Disk Warrior or Onyx or any other diagnostics app I have come across, I am told that the harddrive is doing fine.
In the middle of 2009 I then created a 50gb partition on which I installed Win XP. This was because of some work related software that I needed to run. Now, on Win XP I have yet to experience any problems relating to the one I have on OSX. (Of course there are problems with Win XP, but none of them were relating to my specific issue here).
So as it is right now, and have been for too long, I'm better off running Win XP than I am running SL, and that just ****** me off..!
Does anyone here have an idea about what to do next?
I have thought about buying a new harddrive to replace the initial replacement drive, but if that is the only choice I have left, I would rather save up for a new iMac instead.
I have already spent more than enough trying to fix this one.
Here are some details about the system:
    Model-id: iMac5,1
Processor name: Intel Core 2 Duo

    Thank you for the reply.
The freezes happens when opening programs and when running them. And it happens with (as far as I know) all programs on the computer (including TimeMachine, Dashboard apps, Finder, login in/logging out etc.)
As far as I know this is not related to my network, but I will try you suggestion and disconnect the computer fully before running programs on the computer.
Sometimes when the freezes happen, everything on the computer freezes, even the seconds on the clock.
And if I am watching something in Quicktime/VLC/DivX and a freeze happens. After the freeze is over Quicktime will then resume x amount of time later in the movie. Where x is equal to the amount of time the froze lasted.
    Hope this helps clarifying

  • Re:  movies pause and freeze

My DVDs since iLife 06 have started to jerk, freeze and pause when played. I have burned using iDVD, toast, making a disk image and nothing has worked. Original movies from camera are ok. I can export to quicktime CD-ROM and the movie is fine.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,

Well Chris, you have plenty of space and plenty of RAM, so I would definitely suspect the media - or at least rule it out before going further.
As DVD blanks are so cheap, it might pay you to experiment with a few different brands. Verbatim DVD-R is the most popular flavour in these forums, but I suspect that some computers/burners just happen to like one brand, and others another.
I have more Verbatim coasters than any others. Yesterday I tried to burn the video of my son's wedding. As hitherto I used Verbatim 8x DVD-R, burning at 4x. Lot's of stuttering, and one speech 'fell out' altogether' by mising a chapter marker! In fact, verification had failed.
Tried again with Fuji 8x DVD-R, burning at 2x - perfect result. Both were burned from the same disk image. I am rather glad I didn't go back to the original iMovie project and start again. This time at least I was correctly blaming a bad burn. This time no problems with verification.
And I had just used the last Verbatim DVD-R on the spindle! Out of the 50 I had burned, about 8 or 9 had failed - nearly 20%. That is unacceptable.
The only other brand I have tried is Sony, from which I got such consistently bad results, I ended up binning them.
But as I say, it might just be 'horses for courses' - some machines like one brand, others don't.

  • M8430f Desktop with random crashes and freezes

Have had this problem for about a year now. Someone suggested checking the power supply, but I think it's pretty consistent. Sometimes the computer freezes all together, sometimes I get a blue screen... It could happen as often as twice per day, or as infrequently as once a month.
I'm sure there is a memory dump file, but I don't know where it is or what I'd do with it. Someone also suggested Event Viewer, which I found, but again, didn't know what to do with.
I think some memory or the hard drive could be bad. Possibly small sectors, so the crashes only happen when those sectors are accessed. I'll add that two weeks ago I did a clean install of Windows 7, so it's not the operating system.
Any help is appreciated! I'm just trying to find out WHY it crashes.

The symptoms that you describe could definitely be caused by a failing power supply unit (PSU).  It can cause many problems that don't appear to be related to the PSU.  Here is a guide to help you troubleshoot it.
Here is a guide to help you test the hard driver using the SMART diagnostics in the BIOS.
Test the memory by removing all of the modules and replacing them one at a time and booting.  Place the single memory module in the slot closest to the Processor.

  • Workarounds for random shutdwns and freeze

The following workarounds tested on iPhone 3GS OS3.1 and iTunes9
    Try this first:
    A workaround (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2155949&tstart=0):
    iPhone disconnected from the PC/MAC
    iPhone is shut down.
Press and hold down the "Home" button for more than 10s till a USB cable and a CD dispaly on iPhone screen, DO NOT RELEASE, keep holding down the "Home" button and blug the cable, then release the Home button. iTunes will detect and recognise it and displays the "Restore" screen... so you could restore your iPhone and hopefully not have in the future any freeze according to an Apple support guy.
Second try what I tried myself and worked for waking the iPhone up from his deep "coma":
    I have 3GS under 3.1 and iTunes9
    1. iPhone connected to my PC, iTunes launched.
    2. I holded the Power and Home buttons down for 10s
First it displays the apple, do not release to two buttons and keep holding them down until it sends a kind of flash, at that moment release the power button and keep holding down the Home buttons for 10 supplementary seconds.
The iPhone is then detected by iTunes and it displays the "Restore" icon.
    You could then restore iPhone.

I've now had three further occurrences of this problem and after a bit of research have found a few things posted on a number of other forums.
One of the suggestions is that it could be attributed to a memory problem following a RAM upgrade. This made me think as I have recently upgraded from 2GB to 3GB. I'm going to revert back to the original 2GB of memory and see if the problem goes away.
Another theory is that the keyboard cable behind the battery is in some way causing the problem due an intermittent connection. I'm not convinced by this one but I think it's worth investigating.
Any other suggestions are still welcome

  • Unwanted pausing and freezing at the beginning - Flash player problem - Need help

    Hi everybody,
I have got the following problem: the problem occurs especially on youtube.com.
Every time when I open a video, the adobe flash player buffers the video a little bit and suddenly the grey line, which means the buffering on youtube video, stops. Then video plays only until the end of the grey buffer line. Then it freeze and I have to wait until 10-20 seconds until the grey line continues moving forward and at the same time the video continues to play.
But I don't want to have that freezing problem at the beginning of each video.
The important thing to know is: when I used a very old version of the flash player (the version 9 or 10) then every video on youtube worked very well without any freezing problems at the beginning
What is the solution. Can you please help me?
Here is what I have done so far:
I updated my flash player to the latest version.
My internet speed is very fast.
When I click right on the youtube video screen in order to go to the settings: then I unchecked "active hardware acceleration, I changed the temporary storage limit to "unlimited".
My global settings looks like the following: I checked "allow websites to save information on your computer" and "ask if a website wants to use a peer assisted network".
    My OS: Windows 7 (64)
Current version of firefox, chrome and IE. I have the problem in every browser.
In the attachment you can see 2 screenshots of my problem: One where you can see the grey buffer line. and the 2nd: where you can see that the video stopped loading and buffering and the video stopped playing.
Unfortunately, I don't get money from the company for advertising its product *sigh*. ;-)

Just because your internet connection is fast doesn't mean that the route from the specific server to you is also equivalently fast.  You can get some additional information by right-clicking the YouTube video and choosing Stats for nerds.  That information would be interesting.
If video plays back fine once it actually buffers successfully, then there's probably not a lot you can do.  You might take a look at a different browser.  Google Chrome will probably use HTML5 playback on YouTube, and Internet Explorer will use the ActiveX control on Flash, which is significantly different from the NPAPI Flash Player used in Firefox.

  • Random Pause and Play from iTunes

Starting from about a week ago. My iTune sometimes randomly play/pauses itself without me pressing play or anything. Even after I quit the application, it starts again. I know my play button isn't mulfunctioning because the same problem isn't occurring with my other applications.
This is getting kind of frustrating, some help please!

When you say they are displaying in your iTunes library, are you talking about the Audiobooks section of your iTunes library and not the audiobooks section indented under the iPod in the left pane of iTunes under Devices?
Is the iPod Shuffle configured to sync audiobooks or do you manually manage the iPod's contents?
