Drop down link in Fireworks

I am having trouble linking my Fireworks drop down menu.  I set the link in Fireworks and when I export to dreamweaver the pages will not connect.  Could you give me some advice where I could find a tutorial in actualy conecting html pages with the drop down menu?

Try setting the links in Dreamweaver instead.

  • Overlay Drop Down Links/Rotating Text Over Graphic/Background

    I am fairly new to DW and am currently using Dreamweaver CS4. I would like to overlay drop down links and rotating text over a graphic image/background and am curious as to how this would best be accomplished. Is each piece; background/graphic, drop down links and rotating text a different layer? Can this type of thing be created using just DW or do I need Flash or something else? Please let me know if I should provide an example on the web to illustrate what it is I am trying to do - I wasn't sure if it is permissible to post links to sites that you don't own or are affiliated with in some way.
    I don't expect to be spoon feed but getting pointed in the right direction on what to research would be a big help!

    Is each piece a different layer?
    Not necessary to put everything inside an APDiv or layer.
    The best advice I can offer is to build unstyled HTML content logically from top to bottom of page.  I know, plain HTML is ugly but that's OK.
    Then use CSS to add background images/colors, text/menu styles and alignment.  Use default CSS positioning (which is no positioning at all) and use margins, padding and floats to arrange elements where you want them.
    See sample CSS Layout: (view code to see how it's done)

    Can this type of thing be created using just DW or do I need Flash or something else?
    If you can work with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript code, you can do everything you want in Dreamweaver.  Flash is certainly optional but many devices (iPhones...) don't support Flash.
    Start by learning the basics first, then DW will be much easier for you to use.

  • Drop down menu in fireworks 8

    Hello All,
    Is it possible to create drop down menu buttons in adobe cs5 and then export to fireworks 8 as a style for pop up menu. I want my drop down menu buttons to have gradient and white borders which I cannot do in fireworks nor does it have such a style in fireworks drop down menu button.
    Please see image example
    any reply would be much appreciated.
    Many thanks
    helen

    I didn't know about this feature!
    Looks like you'll have to define a style for the button backgrounds first...
    ...then define the text styles within the Pop-up Menu Editor. Not sure about the white border, though; there doesn't seem to be a place for it within the Pop-up Menu Editor. I imagine that it could be applied to the containing HTML element after exporting.

  • Drop Down Links Not Working

    I just received back the .HTM files for a decompiled HTMLHelp
    file (.chm) that I sent off for localization. The English source
    files were from RH6 I believe. Today I got the files back, I
    recompiled the CHM file using the FAR HTML help compiler tool. When
    testing, I noticed that my drop-down expanding links don't work.
    When I click on them nothing seems to happen. Popup links are fine
    however.
    Looking in the source code for the file I see this:
    <a class=dropspot x-use-popup=#POPUP257330034
    x-popup-type=pulldown href="javascript:kadovTextPopup(this)"
    id=a10>bloque de pruebas de Hexagon
    (Hexblock_Wireframe_Surface.igs).
    </a>
    The DIV tag for this looks like this:
    <div class=x-popup-text id=POPUP257330034 style='display:
    none; position: absolute' >
    <p class=figure>
    <img src="example_measure_4_circles.gif" alt="Crear un
    programa de pieza que mide cuatro c&iacute;rculos"
    x-maintain-ratio="TRUE" style="width:444px; height:208px;"
    width="444" height="208" border="0" class="hcp1">
    </p>
    <p class=Caption>Crear un programa de pieza que mide
    cuatro c&iacute;rculos, parecido a &eacute;ste.
    </p>
    </div>
    So, the content is there. I'm just not sure why it's not
    dropping down the text when I click on the links. Any ideas?

    Thanks for the reply Colum. The problem wasn't that though.
    The English links work fine and didn't have the code you mentioned
    either. Note that these .htm files no longer reside inside RH. They
    have been built into a .chm and then the .chm has been decompiled
    for translation.
    I trouble-shot (is that a word?) this all day yesterday and
    found that the problem is due to the source code in the translated
    .htm files not having any line breaks. All the source code is on
    one line (see attached code below). This tends to mess up some of
    the javascripts. In this particular case the javascript function,
    kadovTextPopupinit, won't run because it is commented out due to
    the comment tag, <!--, being on the same line:
    <script type="text/javascript" language=JavaScript1.2>
    <!-- kadovTextPopupInit('a10'); //--></script>
    The solution was is to insert a line break in front of
    kadovTextPopupInit, like this:
    <script type="text/javascript" language=JavaScript1.2>
    <!--
    kadovTextPopupInit('a10');
    //--></script>
    The javascript function then works properly. Now the problem
    is doing that to the 3000+ topics in the translated help project.
    I'm currently writing my own VB tool to do this.

  • Interactive Drop Down (linking drop downs to other documents)

    Hello all, thanks in advance.
    I am trying to basically create a drop down list, which links to other documents. Imagine for example you have a drop down box that contains a load of different options, "1" "2" "3" etc. after chosing one, you then click on a button which takes you to the PDF, which 1 2 or 3 corresponds to.
    I have made the drop down list but now I am at a loss of what to do from here, is it possible to make each individual selection (1 2 or 3) have a seperate action or will I have to write some kind of code to be able to achieve this. If that's the case, I wonder if someone like me, who has no understanding of code would be able to write in such a command. Anyway thanks again for all your potential help!
    sincerely,
    Elliot

    HI Elliot,
    This is possible however not by PDF Pack subscription, this can be achieved by LC Designer as we can wite code in there to achieve the goal. If you have LC Designer with you i would request you post your query in LC Designer forum.

  • My drop down menus made in Fireworks wont work after I put them in Dreamweaver

    I am trying to make a site for my work. And I made a drop down menu within Fireworks. I pasted the code into the place I wanted it to go on Dreamweaver, then I saved the page and went into Internet Explorer. I rolled over my buttons that were supposed to be drop downs and they only work if you refresh then roll over and once you take your mouse off of it, you'd have to refresh again to see the buttons. I have tried and tried to figure this out but I just cant seem to. PLEASE HELP!

    Here is the link to my page
    http://lakechelanmirror.bravehost.com/
    The drop down menus are supposed to be the NEWS button and MIRROR BLOG button.
    I THINK this is the code for the menu..
    var mmOpenContainer = null;
    var mmOpenMenus = null;
    var mmHideMenuTimer = null;
    function MM_menuStartTimeout(hideTimeout) {
    mmHideMenuTimer = setTimeout("MM_menuHideMenus()", hideTimeout);

      var c = document.getElementById(mmOpenContainer);
      c.style.visibility = "inherit";
      mmOpenContainer = null;
    if( mmOpenMenus ) {
      for(var i in mmOpenMenus) {
       var m = document.getElementById(mmOpenMenus[i]);
       m.style.visibility = "hidden";
      mmOpenMenus = null;
    function MM_menuHideSubmenus(menuName) {
    if( mmOpenMenus ) {
      var h = false;
      var c = 0;
      for(var i in mmOpenMenus) {
       if( h ) {
        var m = document.getElementById(mmOpenMenus[i]);
        m.style.visibility = "hidden";
       } else if( mmOpenMenus[i] == menuName ) {
        h = true;
       } else {
        c++;
      mmOpenMenus.length = c+1;
    function MM_menuOverMenuItem(menuName, subMenuSuffix) {
    MM_menuResetTimeout();
    MM_menuHideSubmenus(menuName);
    if( subMenuSuffix ) {
      var subMenuName = "" + menuName + "_" + subMenuSuffix;
      MM_menuShowSubMenu(subMenuName);
    function MM_menuShowSubMenu(subMenuName) {
    MM_menuResetTimeout();
    var e = document.getElementById(subMenuName);
    e.style.visibility = "inherit";
    if( !mmOpenMenus ) {
      mmOpenMenus = new Array;
    mmOpenMenus[mmOpenMenus.length] = "" + subMenuName;
    function MM_menuResetTimeout() {
    if (mmHideMenuTimer) clearTimeout(mmHideMenuTimer);
    mmHideMenuTimer = null;
    function MM_menuShowMenu(containName, menuName, xOffset, yOffset, triggerName) {
    MM_menuHideMenus();
    MM_menuResetTimeout();
    MM_menuShowMenuContainer(containName, xOffset, yOffset, triggerName);
    MM_menuShowSubMenu(menuName);
    function MM_menuShowMenuContainer(containName, x, y, triggerName) {
    var c = document.getElementById(containName);
    var s = c.style;
    s.visibility = "inherit";
    mmOpenContainer = "" + containName;

    Only half works in opera, menu doesn't stay visible long enough to click on it.
    I'm also getting "<%@LANGUAGE="JAVASCRIPT" CODEPAGE="65001"%>" at the top of every page?

  • Fireworks cs6 drop down menu crossbrowser

    Hi there,,
    I am doing this drop down menu on fireworks cs6,its a horizontal menu,  and the dropdouwn menus on chrome appears on the middle of the button, the same happends on iexplorer,firefox and Opera.But on Safari it works perfectly.I send the fotos on atachment one  from google chrome and one from Safari.
    The one on the left is from google chrome, the drop down menu on all the buttons appears on the midle of the button,and its the same on all browsers,except on safari, the right foto.
    I tryed to use google chrome inspect tools and uncheck some of the css proprieties of the div correspondent to the uploads drop down link("uploads"), but nothing happends.it doesnt move up or down , not even a pixel.
    I want it to look like the Safari right foto on all browsers, How can i do that?
    i did the menu on fireworks cs6 and exported to dreamweaver cs6 as HTML, then i inserted the menu as fireworks html inside a div #nav, this is on the fluid grid layout on the  phone and tablet css:
    #nav {
              margin-top: 0px;
              clear: both;
              float: left;
              margin-left: 0;
              width: 100%;
              height: auto;
              min-height: 180px;
              display: block;
              background: rgba(66,65,66,1);
              background: -moz-linear-gradient(top, rgba(66,65,66,1) 0%, rgba(115,115,115,1) 2%, rgba(168,168,168,1) 57%, rgba(247,246,247,1) 97%, rgba(253,252,253,1) 100%);
              background: -webkit-gradient(left top, left bottom, color-stop(0%, rgba(66,65,66,1)), color-stop(2%, rgba(115,115,115,1)), color-stop(57%, rgba(168,168,168,1)), color-stop(97%, rgba(247,246,247,1)), color-stop(100%, rgba(253,252,253,1)));
              background: -webkit-linear-gradient(top, rgba(66,65,66,1) 0%, rgba(115,115,115,1) 2%, rgba(168,168,168,1) 57%, rgba(247,246,247,1) 97%, rgba(253,252,253,1) 100%);
              background: -o-linear-gradient(top, rgba(66,65,66,1) 0%, rgba(115,115,115,1) 2%, rgba(168,168,168,1) 57%, rgba(247,246,247,1) 97%, rgba(253,252,253,1) 100%);
              background: -ms-linear-gradient(top, rgba(66,65,66,1) 0%, rgba(115,115,115,1) 2%, rgba(168,168,168,1) 57%, rgba(247,246,247,1) 97%, rgba(253,252,253,1) 100%);
              background: linear-gradient(to bottom, rgba(66,65,66,1) 0%, rgba(115,115,115,1) 2%, rgba(168,168,168,1) 57%, rgba(247,246,247,1) 97%, rgba(253,252,253,1) 100%);
       filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient( startColorstr='#424142', endColorstr='#fdfcfd', GradientType=0 );
              padding: 0px;
    i used a http://www.cssmatic.com/  linear gradient as background for the div #nav and i also tryed to remove the background and still the problem remains,except on safari.
    On fireworks cs6 preview in browser(chrome) it also works perfectly, its only wen i export it to dreamweaver it only works like the preview on Apple safari.

    On one page in IE when someone hovers over a drop down link,

    Firefox, Safari and Netscape Mac/PC don't show this but IE on

    Anyone know why?

  • Drop down text options

    I'm looking for feedback on other options for displaying drop
    down text. I'm getting feedback from my users that they don't
    understand that green italic text (or what ever format is used)
    assumes drop down text. Most people are now used to seeing collapse
    and expand icons to represent drop down information. I have used
    the twisties in some of my projects but in this specific case, i am
    using the Show/Hide All script and there appears to be a conflict
    with the 2 scripts.
    I'm just curious if there are other methods used to represent
    or display that an item on the page is a drop down link, other than
    expand or collapse icons.

    Are you talking about the twisty / show hide methods on my
    site? If so please see the introductory topic that refers to a
    script that does allow both to work together.

  • How to export drop down menu to DW??

    Hi all,
    I am have just created a drop down menu in Fireworks and
    wanted to export it to my website to update the menu.
    Now, I have saved the button files in my rootfolder. When I
    go there from DW/ Insert Image objects/ rollover button (its a
    rollover), I see the following files that I created from Fireworks:
    registration-nor.gif
    then I have a whole lot of
    registration-over_f6.gif
    (corresponding to the amount of frames I have in my roll over
    button)
    I also got
    mm_css_menu.js
    and
    registration-over.htm
    and
    registration-over.css
    Now, the above is a whole bunch of different files, and I
    cant seem to figure out how to put them in the right place or
    swhich file to choose for where, in order to get my drop down menu
    to work>
    Please help me, and tips would be highly appreciated!
    Cheers!

    You really want help? Don't use these menus. They are pretty
    poorly
    implemented and will be a bear to maintain. There are much
    better ways -
    some free and some commercial:
    Check the uberlink and MacFly tutorials at PVII

    and the Navbar tutorial/articles at Thierry's place

  • Drop down menus in IE

    Ah crud, I have been putting together this site for the
    Archdiocese of Omaha (
    http://www.archomaha.com/archdioceseofomaha/),
    and they decided to go with some drop down menus, thus making my
    life easier (sarcasm). After looking online at many a sources to
    try to find out about drop down menus, I found that it be easiest
    to purchase already made drop downs from projectseven.com. I have
    the drop downs working pretty much how I want them to work in
    firefox, but in IE, I am having some difficulties. The About Us
    dropdown link is behind part of my shadow image and the page
    content goes ahead of my other drop down links. How do I get the
    drop downs in IE above the other content? If you have trouble

  • What's the best way of creating drop down menus on CS3?

    Hi people,
    I'm using CS3 now. I used to build drop down menus in
    fireworks, but now with CS3 theyre a bit glitchy and I have
    problems centering the page, as fireworks CS3 now generates CSS for
    each menu - (dreamweaver also gets confused which CSS to use?)
    Is SPRY menus the way to go now? It looks quite time
    consuming styling them with CSS? I quite like using rollover
    images, is this going to make life hard doing it the SPRY way?
    Any tips or advice would be appreciated before I start.
    Whats your experience of SPRY shall I go for that or stick to
    something more tradional?

    It's not really all that time consuming if you have an
    understanding of
    CSS... the stylesheet that is used for the Spry menus is
    fully commented
    (thought it could be better explained in some cases), but
    once you
    understand what each section does and how to make the style
    change it's not
    that difficult.
    Otherwise, go with the tutorial already posted.

  • Putting Drop Down Javascript in External File

    I am creating drop-down menus using Fireworks. I am then
    importing them into DW. The problem is that this menu is going into
    a template so any time I make a change to the navigation bar I have
    to update all the pages and re-upload all the pages that use that
    template for it to take affect.
    Is there a way of putting the javascript for these menus into
    an external file rather than having it live in the template. That
    way all I would have to do is replace the file.
    Many thanks in advance,
    Andy

    Depending on which version of FW you are using this could
    well be the third
    strike. Which FW is it?

    No, it's not all you would have to do. The javascript only
    defines the
    menu's functionality, not its characteristics.
