Drop Shadow caused by light source (Motion 3)?

i am trying to create some drop shadows with objects in Motion, and i cannot seem to find a way to allow the 3D lights, to create a drop shadow for the object that is blocking the light. The object is also in a 3D group.
I am aware that you can just enable the "Shadow" box in the properties tab when in a 2D project/group, but this is not available when in a 3D group, so...
Is this not implemented yet?

No, this is NOT available in Motion yet. Need to go over to After Effects for the Cast Shadow and Accept Shadow options.

  • Drop shadow causing faint rectangles showing in final printed book cover

    Greetings experts!
Hoping I can get a translation and a nod as to whether I am on the right track. I have taken a two-day beginner's course in InDesign and am getting past the edge of my knowledge on this issue.
Publishing a 112-page book, perfect bound, with full color cover.
The printer ran the cover a little darker this time, and some pesky faint rectangles showed up around the book title which is reversed out of a photograph. The title has a drop shadow.
I found the following reference, but am not sure what the terms mean and what I'm supposed to adjust. Any help much appreciated. See below for article reference.
    Kindest regards,
    spnDesign
"Clip Complex Regions Ensures that the boundaries between vector artwork and rasterized artwork fall along object paths. This option reduces stitching artifacts that result when part of an object is rasterized while another part of the object remains in vector form. However, selecting this option may result in paths that are too complex for the printer to handle.
"Stitching, where rasters and vectors meet.
Note: Some print drivers process raster and vector art differently, sometimes resulting in color stitching. You may be able to minimize stitching problems by disabling some print-driver specific color-management settings. These settings vary with each printer, so see the documentation that came with your printer for details."

A couple of other things: check your transparency settings, and set them to High Resolution.
When printing to press, you should always use/send CMYK unless the printer asks you not to. Sending RGB images to press is asking for them to be converted on the fly and you may see color shifts.
Also, check the level of PDF compatibility you're using when converting to PDF. Converting at 5.0 and later passes transparency into the PDF, but converting at 4.0 causes it to flatten transparent elements, and you may get better results. Drop shadows created in InDesign are transparent elements.
Finally, if the drop shadows ARE created in InDesign, I've seen a note somewhere that the transparency effect blend mode should not be set to "multiply," even thought that is the logical mode to use. This may have been an issue only at CS2 however.

  • Drop shadow causing object transparency

I'm applying a drop shadow to a photograph. The image seems to get less opaque when I apply the object style. No other effect is applied. Am I losing my mind? For budget issues, I have to use 2 color pages, so the image is grayscale and I'm losing the contrast I need.
    Help

When I view greyscale TIFFs in Photoshop, they always looks the same regardless of what Profile I select or what Profile the TIFF was previously saved with. (With exception to some profiles that I assume are related to film).
Where are you changing the profile? If the file has a profile assigned then changing the Working Gray space in Color Settings would have no effect because the assignment overrides the working space. If there is an assignment you have to use Edit>Assign Profiles... (not Edit>Convert to Profile...) to change the assignment and see the preview change.
If there's no assignment changing the Working Gray Space will adjust the preview. Here the difference between 10% Dot Gain and 2.2 Gamma is clear:

  • DROP SHADOWS AND VIDEO ISSUES

I am using Windows7 and ID CS5.  I have discovered that having more than one drop shadow causes ID to redraw the entire page after every action.  Move a text box a fraction of an inch and it redraws everything.  This usually takes between 15-20 seconds to do.  Has anyone else had this problem?  I have 24 gigs of ram and dual video cards @ 1gb memory each and not sure why the drop shadows would cause this type of problem.  Other than doing the layout and then adding the drop shadows at the end, any other insight would be appreciated.

    You can check these settings:-
    1) Turn off the preflight from the Windows-->Output-->Preflight
    2) Change the Live screen drawing to "Never"  under Edit-->Preferences-->Interface
    3) Change the Display performance to "Typical" if it is set to "High Quality" , under View-->Display Performance

  • Drop Shadow is Causing a Colour Box to Appear Upon Print

I am in the midst of creating a brochure which I am wanting ot use some drop shadows on to create separation between colours.
I have noticed that in the three locations that i've used drop shadows (one is a white square shape, one is on font, and one is on a graphic with a transparent background) there is a light, almost transparent, box that is appearing upon print.  This box does not show up in any way on the .pdf, but appears when printed.
Is this an issue with my printer, or am I somehow causing an error with my drop shadow settings?

Sounds like it might be this: InDesignSecrets » Blog Archive » Eliminating YDB (Yucky Discolored Box) Syndrome

  • PP CS6 Title Safe Motion Automatic Drop Shadow - WHY and how do I turn it off?

    Hello all.
I'm new to Premiere (one week) after years on Avid. So go easy on me.
I've created a title that I've added some motion to (basic stuff, just moved the position/added some directional blur so that the camera pan matches the title movement). The moment the edge of the title frame enters the screen a drop shadow appears - but only if there's motion (see attached picture).
At first I thought it wouldn't show up on export- but it did. I'm sure it was placed there by programmers as some kind of marker, or edge warning, but why in the world can't I find a place to shut it off? I tried everything, watched about 2 hours worth of adobe TV, youtube, vimeo tutorials, read forums, the software's help section, etc. Had a chat conversation with an adobe rep in India and he suggested I animate using title crawl - in the end he didn't know how to turn the shadow off. I could always go to AE, but why should I have to do this for something so basic? Is there ANY way to shut this feature off (considering how customizable everything that adobe makes tends to be)? Or do I have to bite the bullet and create a Matte to over the shadow (silly considering it wasn't my creative choice).
PS: If I stack video on top of video the same shadow does not appear, even if I add motion to it - so this is a title only problem.
PPS: Yes, I could zoom into the frame to avoid the shadow (and if there is no answer or solution to my question I will do that) but why should there be a permanent shadow on a Title frame that already has several safety markers - including a while edge around the frame???? Or furthermore, why should we be limited to work inside a frame???
    Thank you for your help/time.

It's locked and I'm unable to toggle it, but it seems like that is the current setting. It still shows the shadow.

  • Using InDesign CS6, why does a drop shadow applied to a text box, cause a photo on the same page to

I thought it was just a screen appearance so I made a pdf and the photo is lighter here too.  I've never had this issue with CS5.5 or earlier.  Drop shadows were able to be applied to one object without affecting others on the page. Is it a bug? Is there a setting I'm missing?  Thanks!

Overprint preview didn't stop the lightening of the photo.
A google search turned up the suggestion to change the transparency blend space to RGB, which worked in InDesign.  When I make the pdf (no color conversion) it looks ok. But when turning on Output Preview in Acrobat, the photo lightens again.  Weird and frustrating - I'm not sure what the final output will look like.
Is Transparency Flattener set at High res an option?
    I appreciate your help!

  • Drop Shadow parameter causes flickering

I seem to remember seeing this problem occasionally some time ago but now its worse.
Drop shadow" parameter seems to yield a flickering result. I check drop shadow and set both blur and distance to say 16. Looks perfect on the screen. Then I render the project and watch it as a quicktime movie. Now the shadow flickers. Some frames it is perfect then for the next 3-4 frames there is no shadow at all. Then perfect again etc.
    Is GPU AFU?
The movie is in HD resolution. 1080i60

  • Having a problem: Placing image or putting drop shadow on rectangle causing entire page to lighten up.

I don't know how to word this properly, so I'm sorry if I'm doing this all wrong! I'm having a problem with my document in indesign. I have placed a jped image on the page to serve as the background image. I did this on the master page. I first noticed this problem when I was trying to put a .psd image onto the page. When I did, it would cause the entire page to dramatically brighten! I finally gave up and moved on, and now I ran into the problem again when I created a new rectangle box. I put a drop shadow effect on the box and when I did this, it also made the entire page lighten up. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem??
    Thanks so much!

Whenever you add a transparency effect such as drop shadow over another image, especially a grayscale image, InDesign changes how the page is rendered to reflect what it will look like when printed. As I understand it, nothing has changed but the display. Choose View > Overprint Preview to avoid such surprises and get a more accurate representation of what you'll see when printed when colors are separated. If your document is going to be output to PDF or SWF, choose Edit > Transparency Blend Space > Document RGB instead of Document CMYK.

  • Importing .tif files, resizing, adding motion, drop shadow - 30 times?

Creating "pop up tips" in an instructional video. Is there a way to add the same behaviors to each new "Tip #" as I import them, instead of going through the same resizing, motion, drop shadow steps each time?
Sorry if this question has been answered - been searching - haven't found the answer.

Make all of the adjustments to one image, then copy that image. Select all other images in the Timeline to which you want to apply the same effects. Right-click on one and choose "Paste Attributes." When the attributes window opens, click the appropriate items on the VIDEO side, ie; Basic Motion, Drop Shadow, Filters, etc).

  • InDesign 5.5 - Type with drop shadow placed in front of gray box causes "shadow box". Ditto Graphics

I exported this document from InDesign 5.5 using PDFX-4 and sent to the print service provider. The Printer's Proof showed problems in a couple of places:
    1. In InDesign, white type with a drop shadow is placed over a background box containing a placed greyscale Illustrator graphic . In the Proof, behind the type box appears a yellow-grayish shadow.
    2. In InDesign, a photo (placed greyscale Photoshop file), with a white border and drop shadow, is placed over a grey background box (CMYK). In the Proof, behind the graphic box and shadow appears a gray shadow box (lighter than the drop shadow).
The printer informed me that he doesn't have PDFX-4. I resent the job using PDFX-3(1.3). Will that solve the problem, or is there some other problem?
The printer needs to go to press, so don't have much time.

You should probably ask in the InDesign forum. Looks like everything you are doing is InDesign specific.

  • Drop shadow in .ai causing transparency problems for .eps (needed for MS Publisher – PDF)

I have icons with drop shadows created in .ai. I need to make the icons available for others who use MS Office Publisher to create print materials (export to PDF). I use .eps files for this however the drop shadow is making a white background (if I take out the drop shadow the background is transparent). How do I save the icons so that the background is transparent with the drop shadow?
    Thanks.

    Simply, you don't.
EPS is a flat file format and does not support transparncy, therefore all transpency is flattened upon saving.
You may be better off saving as png or pdf to support transparency.

  • Flicker when using drop shadow with edge feather

I have encountered a new problem with FCP 5.1.2. When using edge feather and drop shadow together, I encounter a flicker around the edge of the feathered video image. This flicker goes away if I remove the drop shadow. I read in an earlier post that the 5.02 update solved this problem. However, I am using version 5.1.2 and the sugestion to reajust the percentage of the effect and then back to the original percentage, doesn't work. I have used the edge feather, drop shadow combo many times in earlier versions of FCP with no problem. Fixes anyone?
I posted this months ago with no reply so I'm trying again. Anyone with any thoughts? I really don't like having to resort to creating the drop shadow in Photoshop.

What I am trying to do is very simple. I want to soften the edges of an image and give it a drop shadow. This "image" could be a scaled and cropped DV source, or it could be a photoshop file. This is something I have done routinely in previous versions of FCP without any problem. This is very basic. I have opened earlier projects that were edited in those earlier versions of FCP, and what looked fine then, looks horrible now. If others are not having this problem, can I assume my software upgrade is defective in some way?
Please, if someone would perform the following and report back, I would greatly appreciate it.
1- import two DV video files into a new FCP project.
2- place DV file "A" on the V1 track
3- create a V2 track and place DV file "B" over DV file "A"
4- scale DV file "B" to 50% and apply a 100% Edge Feather to it.
5- now check the Drop Shadow box
This will look fine on your computer screen, but when viewing on an external monitor the edges of DV file "B" flicker in a terribly annoying way.
Something this simple and basic shouldn't be causing this much pain. Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Black drop shadow bleeding onto white text during printing (but looks fine on screen)

For my business card design I have white text overlapping an area of very white grey- causing readability issues (insufficient contrast). It looks great apart from this one problem, so I still want to keep my white text and light background and fix it by separating the text and background with a darker drop shadow..
First, I added a black drop shadow to the text- but this was not enough to increase readability (text still looked faded on background as drop shadow was too subtle at 85% opacity, 0.04" blur) so I added a drop shadow to my drop shadow (100% opacity, 0.02" blur + 18% opacity, 0.02" blur). This produced a heavier drop shadow effect for my text as desired but, for some reason, the text came out slightly grey in print (offset run). It seems the drop shadow somehow got printed over the text itself to some extent- turning the white text somewhat grey (and so not looking as clean as intended).
How could this dropshadow bleed into the text happen? Is it to do with the fact I added a drop shadow to my drop shadow? I would have thought that, even then, the text should entirely overlap all of the drop shadow as the text is the top layer in the group.
What can I do to ensure that drop shadow does not print over text in any way in future? Do I have to stick to only one layer of dropshadow-or is there something else I'm missing?

One way this could happen is if the white fill of your text was not with 100% opacity.
Also, do you see a whiter place than  your text on your business card? It could be the color of the paper if you are comparing with the white of the image on screen without proper color management.
