Drop shadow not knocking out when creating pdf

Hi all,
firstly using ID CS3 and Acrobat 8 on 10.5
When I use the drop shadow function on text in ID looks great on screen, when I create the pdf file I end up with a big white box around all the text. this is driving me crazy.
thanks in advance.

>If this is the case, then convert the colour to process in the swatches panel.
Unless, of course, it's SUPPOSED to be a spot color. In that case, you will need to make sure that your PDF viewer (e.g., Acrobat) and the printer/RIP/workflow system are set to honor, not ignore overprints.

  • "Simulate overprint" grayed out when creating PDF

    I'm trying to save an ID CS4 doc as a PDF. The doc is 2 spot colors. Under "Output" the Simulate Overprint checkbox is grayed out. How can I get this to be available?

    I haven't checked out Reader 9 but the default for Acrobat 9 Pro is to automatically display Overprint Preview for PDF/X files, but not all files. In Acrobat 9 Pro, choose InDesign > Preferences > Page Display > Page Content and Information (Mac) or Edit > Preferences > Page Display > Page Content and Information (PC). The default setting Use Overprint Preview is set to Only for PDF/X Files. You can set it to all files if you like.
    I believe I heard from Leonard Rosenthol, Adobe PDF guru, that originally that feature was supposed to be turned on for all files but PDF  from certain files (read Microsoft Office) caused problems so they turned that off.
    You can always display Overprint Preview by choosing Advanced > Print Production > Output Preview.

  • Drop shadow affects background colour when printing to PDF

    I have a diagram in AI format with drop shadows against a coloured background. When I print it from Illustrator to PDF, the background colour around the objects with drop shadows is slightly out, leading to a "blocky" effect. Also, some lines that overlap with the drop shadows are thickened.
    I've embedded the diagram in a FrameMaker file and the same problem is evident when I create a PDF from FrameMaker.
    The problem is partially solved by saving a copy of the file as an EPS, and embedding this in the FrameMaker document. The "blocky" effect then goes away, but there are still some overly thick lines.
    Here is what the PDF image looks like:
    Thanks for any light anyone can shed on this problem.

    All the colours in the picture are process colours. I found the page  you refer to earlier, but it didn't seem to apply to my problem. Thanks  anyway.
    I've read around the Web, and it looks as  though the problem is to do with the fact that drop shadows are a raster  effect rather than a vector one. I think this means that the areas  around the drop shadow get rendered in RGB, while the rest of the  diagram is in CMYK.
    Anyhow, as I said, the problem  seems basically to have been that I wasn't using a high enough quality  set of job options for output.
    I inherited these diagrams from a previous colleague, and by selecting "HQ Print with bleed marks" I get them as good as he got them, though as I said the thick lines are still there (as they were in his documents).

  • Page size error when creating PDF from Excel 2013

    Hello,
    I am using Acrobat Pro XI, and am creating a PDF from Excel 2013.  I have updated Acrobat to the latest version (11.0.4).  I am using the Acrobat CreatePDF add-in inside Excel to convert a spreadsheet to PDF.  However, when I create the PDF, the page size doubles from 8.5" x 11" to 17" x 22".  I have checked the print settings inside Excel to insure that the content fits onto an 8.5" x 11" page.  I also checked the Preferences->Advanced Preferences of the Create PDF add-in and confirmed that the default page size is set to 8.5" x 11".  Does anyone know why it is creating the PDF with a 17" x 22" page size?  Also, can the page be resized back down to 8.5" x 11" within Acrobat Pro XI?

    Hello - this did not happen when I printed the file to the Adobe PDF printer.  It correctly sized the sheet as 8.5" x 11".  Thanks for the suggestion.  Also, it will properly print out to the physical printer.
    The main problem is when I am combining several PDFs into one document, I have some sheets sized at 8.5" x 11" and some at 17" x 22", so the document looks strange when viewing it online.  I am still not sure why the Create PDF add-in creates a different sized PDF than the Print to PDF function.

  • Unusual error when creating PDF from Excel

    2 of my work computers started suffering from this 1 week ago in Excel 2003.
    All create buttons and dropdown menus work, the creation process goes through progress bars and such.
    At the end, an error box titled Acrobat PDFMaker displays this error;
    "An error occurred while saving the file. Please check if there is sufficient space in the temporary folder."
    It's Acrobat 8 and its been updated to the highest level for quite a while. No settings have been changed.
    Running on Windows XP Pro. PDF creation has worked fine before this.
    It still works fine on Word.
    The error is not on Google or here, so I assume I'm the first to ever get it!
    There's at least 40 GB free on the drives. I cleared the system temp folder for kicks, but no change.
    I did a generic uninstall and reinstall on one computer, reapplied updates, but error still pops up.

    How can i set Color Conversion field in Export to PDF dialog to No Color Conversion when creating PDF Export preset? i have done a bit of searching and have found where it has been recommended to set effective pdf destination profile to use no profile but it doesn't seem to be producting the expected results.

    Yes, it seems that i had to make the change after creation, not while creating the preset. thank you.

  • TPS file is not deleted after FrameMaker creates PDFs via Acrobat 8

    Using FrameMaker 7.2 build 158, and Adobe Acrobat 8, when creating PDF files, the temporary PostScript file (*.tps), which is created before the final PDF, is not deleted after the creation of the PDF is complete.
    This is a big deal for us because we are using a tool which hooks into the PDF-creation of FrameMaker/Distiller, and is reliant on this TPS file being deleted.
    Is this a known bug? Does Adobe know about this? Do any other users have workarounds for this?

    Thomas,
    FWIW, speaking from experience with the Save As route, I've seen
    random "phunnies" in the final PDFs (such as the missing fonts
    issues), a bigger .tps file than the .ps file generated from directly
    printing to file, slower throughput in both the intermediate
    postscript file creation and actual distilling (probably tied in to
    the larger .tps file) and other differences from what the joboptions
    should have been.
    There should not have been any differences in the file sizes being
    created if the same printer instance/configuration was actually being
    used. I also see this on some automated runs with Miramo. It's not
    consistent either - sometimes it works fine and then the next run, the
    process is considerably slower and there are dropouts in the PDFs.
    So far, manually printing to a ps file and distilling always seems to
    work without any issues.
    Your mileage may vary.

  • Drop Shadows Not Exporting On a Single Page in 1.3

    Hi guys,
    I have a trifold I've made and while exporting for my printer, I lose the drop shadows on the inside page (page 2). There are fewer drops shadows on the first page, and that side prints properly. The only difference between the two pages aside from the amount of drop shadows; is that most drop shadows are jpgs on page 2, and the outside page has only basic shapes. These same shapes show up on page 2 as well, but doesn't have drop shadows (therefore ruling out that it's because I have jpgs). I have to export it as a PDF 1.3 (Adobe 4) because that's what my printer specified with me, hence the only reason I'm running into transparency issues such as this. I'm running CS6 with Adobe Acrobat X Pro.
    Thanks,
    Mitch

    The objects that have drop shadows on page 2 are mostly jpgs, sorry for the confusion.

  • Acrobat distiller keeps on quitting when creating pdf

    Hi there, my Acrobat distiller 10 in OS X Mountain Lion keeps on quitting when creating pdf. Please help.

    Hello,
    1. Please try updating the Acrobat to 10.1.10 and then check the issue.
    2. Go to Settings -> Font Locations. You'll see a list of sources that Distiller gets its fonts from. Make sure that the paths actually exist, delete them if they don't.
    3. Try with different joboptions.

  • Test Note (Documentation Type) when creating Test Plan

    Hi Gurus.
    After we upgraded our SolMan 7.0 system from Support Pack (ST component ) level 19 to level 25,  I noticed this new field "Test Note" (Dcoumentation Type) when creating a Test Plan in transaction STWB_2.
    Initially, when I haven't chosen any project yet, this field has a list-of-values (i.e. Test Case Note, iTutor Document) but when I choose a project, the list-of-values only showing "ST". I also tried choosing another project and there is no value in the list.
    Does anyone know where this list is coming from or how I can configure this?
    It looks like project-related and but I couldn't find any settings for this.
    Can this field be turned off so it will not show in the screen?
    Thanks,
    Tess

    Hi Tess,
    The documentation type ST is the standard documentation type for test notes.
    Test notes are needed by testers to document results in detail during/after testing a test case.
    In SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN  there is the text menu 'GOTO - Project Template - Implementation Projects'
    and then there to the tap 'Documentation Types' to do the default settings for 'ST' for all implementation projects.
    Otherwise you'll have to change settings in the administration for each project!
    There you can assign your own documentation template for ST in the central settings.
    If you are using other project types for testing you'll have to do the same for each project type.
    Regards,
    Adelbert

  • Adobe Acrobat XI: Error Adobe Acrobat is not activated. Cannot create PDF File.

    After installing Acrobat XI Pro on Windows 7 Ent. w/Office 2010.
    From MS Word, select Save as PDF, I recieve "Adobe Acrobat is not activated. Cannot create PDF file."
    Any and all troubleshooting has failed.
    Uninstall Acrobat, language packs, re-install, install updates, Install on fresh image.

    kglad  your link refers to Windows XP. As to the rest it is questionable. First of all it would be nice to know the cause, before fixing the problem. For in some cases eliminating the cause will solve problems later on. So, in my case for ex. The problem did not exist until I protected my Word 2010 document and then saved it to PDF--which it would not allow to do so and giving the error message stated above.

  • Error message: Helvetica Medium outline font missing when creating PDF's

    Error message: Helvetica Medium outline font missing when creating PDF's. Where can I downlaod it and why is it suddenly happening?

    OS? Version of ID?
    This means that either you have an extra Helvetica Medium font installed and it's interfering with ID finding the T1 version, or the T1 version is damaged. I found this really old thread that explains it fairly well: http://www.asadesigner.com/22-indesign/2d812de56777cc90.htm
    The good news is that it's probably only affecting the page information marks.

  • Field not set: ParentEPSObjectId when creating Project.

    Hi everyone,
    I'm developing .net application and getting data from primavera by using p6 web service. At the moment I stuck on project creation. I'm using following code to create a new project:
    Public Function CreateOneProject(pProjectName As String, pProjectId As String, pParentEpsObjectId As Integer, pPlannedStart As Date, pPlannedFinish As Date, pParentOBSObjectId As Integer) As Integer
         Dim vNewProject As Project()
         vNewProject = New Project(0) {}
         Dim vProject As New Project()
         vProject.Name = pProjectName
         vProject.Id = pProjectId
         vProject.ParentEPSObjectId = pParentEpsObjectId
         vProject.StartDate = pPlannedStart
         vProject.FinishDate = pPlannedFinish
         vProject.OBSObjectId = pParentOBSObjectId
         vNewProject(0) = vProject
         Dim retVal As Integer() = gProjectService.CreateProjects(vNewProject)
         Return retVal(0)
    End Function
    And getting error message: Field not set:ParentEPSObjectId when creating Project.
    EPS Object ID i'm selecting from lookup. In this lookup datasource I have following fields from ReadEPS: ObjectId, Name, Id, ParentObjectID.
    As I understood, I should to get ObjectID of selected EPS and to set as parameter in CreateOneProject function. But it's not working.
    Could someone help me?
    Best regards,
    Dmitrij

    I found what was the problem.
    Did not specify following field: ParentEPSObjectIdSpecified = true. With this field I can save.
