Drop Shadow Not Usable

I'm new to Illustrator and trying to simply just add a drop shadow to some various texts. It would seem to me that when you enter text, all you would have to do is highlight and the drop shadow option should be functional. However, that's not the case. Anyone know why drop shadow would be greyed out and unusable?

You have to select the text at the object level and not at the text or type level.
To do that use a selection tool such as the direct select tool as such and that drop shadow option will be available

  • Pie chart drop shadows not printing properly.. cuts off right hand side of pie chart...???

Every time I go to print a pie chart that has a drop shadow applied to it, it cuts off the right hand side of the chart along with the shadow itself.  It looks HORRIBLE!!!  I went through and created a bunch of reports using that method, and now ALL of them have this problem.  It makes ZERO sense to me, and it appears that nobody else is experiencing this.  Does anybody have any ideas?

  • Drop shadow not printing correctly

I have an image on top of a solid color and I want to add a very light dropshadow to the image. Everything looks fine on screen, but when I print, either as an InDesign or PDF file, there is a lighter version of the background color that surrounds the image and drop shadow. I imagine there is a setting I need to adjust inorder to print this properly but have not been able to figure it out. Any ideas? I am using CS3.

    Thanks Bob that worked great!
Now in terms of printing to a PDF in order to upload the file to an online printer, are there any other precautions I need to take to ensure a proper print on their end?

  • Drop shadow not knocking out when creating pdf

    Hi all,
firstly using ID CS3 and Acrobat 8 on 10.5
When I use the drop shadow function on text in ID looks great on screen, when I create the pdf file I end up with a big white box around all the text. this is driving me crazy.
    thanks in advance.

    >If this is the case, then convert the colour to process in the swatches panel.
Unless, of course, it's SUPPOSED to be a spot color. In that case, you will need to make sure that your PDF viewer (e.g., Acrobat) and the printer/RIP/workflow system are set to honor, not ignore overprints.

  • Image with Drop shadow not showing in table

I made an image for the header for my website. When I insert
it into my table, the white background is coming up with my drop
shadow. I made it on photoshop elements and saved it as GIF file
with Transparency checked. Any ideas so that it inserts into my
table like I see it on photoshop?

what is the background? an image? or a color number?
Does photoshop's color picker work outside of ps? If it does,
    click it on
dw's design view window. If it doesn't, open the background
    image in ps and
sample it. Or type in the hex color number if ps will take
    that. if not-
convert the hex color to RGB.

  • Drop shadow not available?

Hi everybody, I'm kinda new to illustrator and I would appreciate your help on an issue I'm running into. I've been following a few tutorials that say to use Effect > Stylize > Drop Shadow, but for me Drop Shadow is not available in that menu. The only thing that is available is "Glowing Edges." I'm trying to add a drop shadow to an ellipse, but I've tried it with lines and even that didn't work.
Any idea what is going on here?

Thanks for asking this and thanks Wade Z for answering...I've just spent 2 hours worrying about my installation of the programme!
Why don't adobe explain this in their basic info on drop shadows?...if there are 2 identical labels within one panel it's bound to cause trouble.
Adobe you owe me a pint!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Drop shadow not working

    Hi,
    It's very strange.
I just applied a drop shadow to a shape and then went to apply to another and suddenly it's not doing anything. What's going on? Should I just restart or could it be something else?
    Thanks!

Could be a problem with your drop shadow settings (not enough offset or blend mode set to lighten). Or maybe there is a problem with your shape (part of a much larger mask.

  • Drop shadows not working in firefox

Just designed and posted a splash page. In safari it looks great but in firefox the drop shadows don't load. Any ideas? My luck my client will be on firefox LOL.

That's a well know problem with FF and iWeb. Adding drop shadows, borders and frames to objets on a web page can add a lot to the "weight" of the page and result is slow loading of the page.
Tried to view your page and got a "The server does not respond at all." response.

Thank you for the information.  Your link saved me a couple more hours of pulling my hair.
Ironically, my outer glow style exported for some images but not others.  It made no sense, and I had run out of ideas.
Was the fix released?  I'm hoping it's still in the works.  If not, my issue is very similar but not resolved yet.

  • Drop Shadows not showing up with iweb 2.04 in firefox please help!

Drop Shadows on my frame are not showing up with iweb 2.04 and firefox please help!
They show up with safari but not firefox. I've read that publishing to mobile me solves it but I publish to my hard drive and ftp to my host (not mobile me).
    Thanks for any help

Drop shadows, borders etc are a bad idea in that they increase the file size and the download time of your page.
Create your image, drop shadow etc on your iWeb page, take a screenshot, crop it and replace the original image with the, much reduced, JPEG>

  • Adjustment Layer with drop shadow not working

    Hi,
I have a problem when trying to use an adjustment layer to apply a drop shadow to multiple images.
Here's what I'm trying to do.
I am creating a floating gallery in After Effects CC (latest updates are installed).
There are 75 photos and each photo is a 3D layer.
I want to add a adjustment layer to automatically add a drop shadow to all the images on the timeline.
It doesn't seem to work. Is there another work-around other then manually adding the effect to each image.
    Thanks,
    Cillian.

    Hi Mylenium,
Thanks for the reply. I went and manually added the effect to each layer. For future reference, does it matter that the layer are 3D for a adjustment layer to work?

  • Drop Shadows Not Exporting On a Single Page in 1.3

    Hi guys,
I have a trifold I've made and while exporting for my printer, I lose the drop shadows on the inside page (page 2). There are fewer drops shadows on the first page, and that side prints properly. The only difference between the two pages aside from the amount of drop shadows; is that most drop shadows are jpgs on page 2, and the outside page has only basic shapes. These same shapes show up on page 2 as well, but doesn't have drop shadows (therefore ruling out that it's because I have jpgs). I have to export it as a PDF 1.3 (Adobe 4) because that's what my printer specified with me, hence the only reason I'm running into transparency issues such as this. I'm running CS6 with Adobe Acrobat X Pro.
    Thanks,
    Mitch

The objects that have drop shadows on page 2 are mostly jpgs, sorry for the confusion.

  • Help Recreating Drop Shadow Effect from Clipping Mask

A few months ago I created the image attached. Today for the life of me I cannot create a similar effect, where the drop shadow of the text comes from the clipping mask. Everytime I try to follow the same steps and layer styles I keep getting a normal black drop shadow not a drop shadow that comes from the clipping mask like in my example. Help please I am driving myself crazy!!!

    Thanks JJMack and PCTGraphic !
PCTGraphic converting the text layer to a smart object is what I seemed to be missing (and what I believe I did in the attached picture as well). Thanks for the reminder!
JJMack I really appreciate your answer as well (there's always more than way of doing things), but I know I didn't use a vector mask originally.  Unfortunately, I do not know how to add text to a vector mask.  I would like to learn how to do it your way, I will work on that (the screen shot will help, thank you)!

  • Drop shadow for images

I've done this easily in Photoshop CS3 but now I'm trying to teach people with Elements 6 or 7 how to add a drop shadow to their images. The help menu seems to think that I would add it only to text.
When I follow the procedure with an image open, nothing happens.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.
    Mary Lou

    Mary Lou,
To add a drop shadow to the entire picture:
    1. Duplicate the picture layer.
    2. Increase the canvas size. The duplicate layer will be on transparent background.
    3. Apply the Drop Shadows Layer Style. To change the default shadow, open the Style Settings and adjust the various settings.
    http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1bxVVZCr9XHbMWpqGLbFyTNkpdVsma1
You can also create a drop shadow not using the layer style:
    1. Duplicate the picture layer and increase canvas as above.
    2. Ctrl-click the duplicate layer to select it.
    3. Create a new layer below the duplicate layer and fill with black.
    4. Use the Move tool to position the black layer where you want the shadow to be.
    5. Soften the edges of the black layer using a Gaussian Blur.
    http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1fUAf62zQNztHfAbEOjTg8DSGaltBl0
In both methods you can lighten the shadow by reducing the layer's Opacity, or darken the shadow by duplicating the layer.
Also note that when you use the Drop Shadows Layer Style, when the Style Settings is open you can use the mouse to drag the shadow wherever you want, even totally off the object (unlike with the Shadow Distance slider).

  • Text drop shadows (via CSS)?

    Hi guys,
Hope everyone has had a great summer!
Quick question: I have white type with a dark blue image behind it. I'd really like the white type to pop more off the background with a text drop shadow (CSS generated drop shadow, not rasterized), can't get it to work. I found this simple video...
    https://plus.google.com/117443384307509478210/posts/1h3EVw4jvmf
...however doesn't seem to be working for me. I'm selecting the text box the white type is in -- the box has no fill and no stroke -- trying to get the drop shadow to only effect the text. Or, is this not possible for some reason(?)
Thanks in advance for your help!
    D

The simplest way to create a text shadow is like this:
    .section p {
        text-shadow: 2px 2px 2px #000;
        font-size: 150%;
Now your HTML may be something like this:
    <div class="section">
        <p>Your sample text goes here</p>
      </div>
This works in FF 14.0.1 but don't know if it is going to work in IE9 or in other major browsers.
    Good luck.
