Drop Zones linked throughout menues?

so this is my first go at iDVD6.
I am creating a project using "Reflection White" theme.
I made the main menu, and added 8 pictures for the drop zones. I then added a submenu, which will be the "extras" and the image that shows up is the first image in my drop zone from the main screen. When I change that image it changes the one in the main screen. Are these inextricably linked or did I miss an option to disconnect them? If they are linked that was rather poor planing.
If anyone has any suggestions or fixes it would be much appreciated!

If you double click on the images in the drop zone you can see what images you dragged into it, you can change order or…
Throw them out and replace with new ones
I used that theme many times and it works perfectly well
Be aware that you can add more than 8 pictures
If you do 8 you will see them pass one at the time, but you can also drop in more in each frame and the will provide a little slightshow
Use the trick mentioned above to control and organize it
When adding submenus start all over and double click the pictures to get it organized
Hope it helped

  • Drop Zones in DVDSP menu templates

I like to occasionally use the menu templates that come with DVDSP. One thing that frustrates me is the quality of the playback video in the Drop Zone of the template. The image has a somewhat jagged/blocky look to it. It is not as smooth and clear as the original m2v file. Is this an encoding problem? What can I do to correct this situation.
The original work is done in FCP5 and then encoded to m2v using the Quicktime Conversion options. I usually chose the settings for a 6 bit target rate with a 7 max, one time VBR, and "Better" motion detection.

What David said - any footage on a menu that includes other shapes or items from the palette will get encoded to MPEG2. If you have already used MPEG2 as the source footage then DVDSP will pass it through another enocde process, and you will lose quality... your best bet therefore is to use .mov files in this case.

  • Dropping a Track into a Drop Zone?

Attempting a complex menu: Client wants a "live" menu throughout a video so that the viewer can navigate at any time while the video is playing. I have accomplished this by using a large Drop Zone in a menu and setting the loop point to the length of the embedded video, and setting an End jump to Still. The user can then select another section to view by clicking on another button on the live menu - or, "all of the choices all of the time".
The problem: Client wants to include a "?" button onscreen at all times so that (hypothetically) if the viewer wanted to "pause" the video they were watching and look at another menu of "FAQ" buttons/select one/watch a video, then the viewer could then select a "Resume" button on-screen and it would return them to a location near where they were prior to when they clicked the "?" button.
I do not believe this can be done based on the "live" menu design. My understanding is that there is a Last Chapter Viewed function that will memorize where the viewer was when they left a Track, but that it will only work if the video that was being watched was a Track, and not an embedded video in a Drop Zone. You cannot drop a Track into a Drop Zone, and Tracks are the only place you can embed chapter markers, so you cannot refer to a Last Chapter Viewed in the "live" menu I created.
In other words, a raw MPEG2 clip cannot have chapter markers placed in it, then dropped into a Drop Zone because chapter markers can only be done on a Track, and Tracks cannot be used inside a Drop Zone. (sorry if that is redundant - this is odd)
Do I have that right? I need to know if this can/cannot be done so that my client can consider an alternative.

Thank you so much! I tried to find this in the manual, but not knowing what it is called it was obviously not easy. I am glad you were able to figure out what I was talking about despite the shortcomings of my video editing vocabulary.
I am slowly discovery that I love to edit in FCE. I have volunteered to edit the video from a children's play my church puts on each year. Each year it seems to get more difficult as we add more cameras. I finally took the plunge this year with FCE as iMovie did not seem up to the challenge.
I have audio from a professional sound board, and synced that up with the camera that has the best angle. I have locked the sound board audio, and then I delete any new audio that is added when I add video tracks....Which now that I look at my timeline it does not seem to be adding any audio when I add clips from the viewer which suits my purposes just find, but I am not sure why.

  • Drop zone of loop in the film stip template, works in simultor, not burning

Droping a loop from the film into the drop some in a chapter menu and it shows up on the simulator. when I go to burn or build etc there is just white where the loop should be. everything else is workinng fine just but no loop- any ideas out there?
    thnx

OK bigger problem- the all NTSC DVD that used the same template [film strip] also had no problem in the simulator, but I just build/formated it, and the drop zones in the menu buttons whent all white again- same as yesterday. I also checked and they were all software based in the menu prefs. something is wrong here, there is like a "flash frame" of the first frame of the loop, frozen for a split second. and then when the motion starts it all goes to white in zone. I am really flumixed here, did I change something in the targets or is it still burn realted? but why does it work in the simulator, like a charm and then it does not burn????? FRUSTRATED

  • Drop Zone Image Adjustment in iDVD '08

I use iDVD 6 for making slideshow DVDs of family functions to send out to my other family members. One of the features that I used in every one of my projects was the ability to drag around any image that you place in the Drop Zone that has been automatically cropped, so that you can pick which part of the image you want to be visible.
In iDVD '08, however, this feature has been removed. What's worse, some of the new themes (Modern, for instance) crop the majority of the images you place into the Drop Zone. I find virtually every new theme in iDVD '08 unusable because of the removal of this feature.
I tried using an old theme from iDVD 6, but I was also unable to adjust the location of my images in relation to the drop zone.
Am I just doing something wrong? In both the toturial vid and the manual, Apple makes no mention of adjusting an image once it's inside the Drop Zone.
In the meantime, I am reverting to iDVD 6. I don't understand why they would remove a feature that was so useful.

*Here's the whole explanation from iDVD Help:*
Repositioning an image or movie in a drop zone
When you drag a picture or movie into a drop zone, the aspect ratio of the image is preserved, but it is scaled larger or smaller to fill the drop zone. As a result, sometimes part of the image is cut off and does not appear in the drop zone. In this case, you can move the image to choose which portion is visible in the drop zone.
_To reposition an image or movie in a drop zone:_
1.) From the drop zone on the menu (not in the drop zone editor), click the image or movie and press Command.
2.) Drag the image until the part you want is visible in the drop zone.
Keep these things in mind as you position an image:
If you drag a narrow image to a drop zone, the image is scaled vertically, and you can move the image up or down only.
If you drag a wide image to a drop zone, the image is scaled horizontally, and you can move the image side to side only.
If you accidentally drag the image too far, you will remove it from the drop zone. (The cursor changes from a hand to a puff of smoke.) Choose Edit > Undo to restore the image to the drop zone.
Repositioning a movie in a drop zone is different from selecting which part of a movie shows in a drop zone (which allows you to select which frame of the movie is displayed in a drop zone). For more information, see Related Topics below.

  • Resize Pictures for Drop Zone?

I read a thread from about a year ago that brought up resizing images to get them to fit in a drop zone correctly. I just started using idvd and just ran into this problem, and it truly annoys me that Apple wouldn't allow resizing and image within idvd to get it to fit, or drag what part of the image shows in the drop zone...
Anyone have a solution, or is this still a "pay to get it" type of thing with pro tools...

So what you really need is to reposition the image within the drop zone (as opposed to resizing) .... is this correct?
If so, have you already tried holding down the control key as you click and drag the image to the desired position?

  • Idvd 08 Picture looks cropped when I put it into drop zones

On the idvd drop zone , I put a picture in the drop zone and it crops half the person's face, how do I make it fit correctly In the drop zone for the menu pic?
    Thanks

The short answer is that you probably do not have your sequence set to match your clip's properties.

  • Forever Theme Frames around drop zone pictures - can I remove them?

I'm using the forever theme. There are frames around drop zone photo's - not buttons. I've tried hitting the buttons bar with the drop zone highlighted and clicking the none button - but it stays with a white boarder around it. So - i looked in the theme contents - but I don't find anything that looks like a white frame... I checked out the plist file -and it looked all compiled - funny script and all - any way to eliminate these frames? I use a lot of transparent gifs for the purpose that I don't want a frame around them - so they just float over the background.

  • IDVD. Poor quality video in drop zones

Video's added to drop zones in iDVD menu themes look terrible, before and after burning the iDVD projects to DVD.
Every video looses quality. They "blink/jump". For example the eyebrows or cheeks of people jump up and down and are very noticeable. It's as if the footage has been scaled up from a smaller image.
Does anyone know how to handle this? Is there a workaround?
This issue has been adressed before, and it seems there's no solution:

    I'm using iDVD 7.1.2 - and iDVD 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 themes.

Just tested the drop zone in the same theme that you posted with a video created with PhotoPresenter and it was very sharp.
    Try this basic troubleshooting fix:
1 - delete the IDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your
    User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete the contents of IDVD'S cache folder: User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD.
3 - launch IDVD and try again with a new project with the same theme.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If you're running Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:

  • Travel Theme Drop Zones

I burned a dvd with the travel theme main menu, and had about 5 or 6 drop zones. Filled these in with pictures (2 were background pictures), looked great. Just one month later, and no change in software, I am now creating another dvd, but this same travel theme now only has one drop zone. A lot less motion as well. I know I didn't make up the previous theme. I can play it back on my DVD. Any ideas how I get to the longer, more-drop-zone Travel theme menu? Thank you!
Message was edited by: Ken Hainsworth

Thanks for the reply. I wish I could show the larger drop-zone travel main menu to everyone. About 4 photos go by, with the red dotted lines swirling around, and then a stamp comes down to ink a passport stamp next to the final photo. This is bizarre: I have no idea why I can't find it just a month or two later. Does everyone else have a 1 drop-zone travel main menu?

  • How to remove iDVD Template Drop Zones?

Hi! I'm looking to remove all drop zones from iDVD to have a simple black background that could be replaced with a .mov file.
Essentially, I'd like to remove the 3 drop zones from the "Modern" 7.0 theme.
Please let me know if this is possible, thanks!
    Alex

This is from iDVD Help: _Adding or hiding drop zones_
The drop zones in a theme are a permanent part of the graphics or animations included in that theme. Therefore, you can’t add drop zones, delete individual drop zones, or change the location of drop zones on a menu. You can, however, hide all the drop zones on a menu so that they don’t appear in your final project. This is particularly helpful when you want to create a simple custom theme.
To hide all drop zones on a menu screen:
Make sure the menu whose drop zones you want to hide is showing in the iDVD window.
With your pointer over the menu, press Command-I to open the Menu Info window.
Deselect the “Show drop zones and related graphics” checkbox.
The drop zones immediately disappear from the menu, and they do not appear in your final burned project. Some other graphical elements may also be hidden.
You can always show the drop zones and ornaments again after you’ve hidden them. Simply open the Menu Info window and select the “Show drop zones and related graphics” checkbox.
To replace the background, open the menu info window. For full directions, go to iDVD Help, and look up _Changing the background image of a DVD menu_.
    I hope this helps.

  • How to add more drop zones or movies in an idvd menu

I was building a dvd in idvd and ran out of drop zones to fill but I couldn't figure out how to add more drop zones.
I tried different templates but I could find none that had more than 12 drop zones.
Then I was adding movies to the main menu and idvd refused to allow more movies added when I reached 10 movies. It said that the template did not accept more movies.
I tried a few other templates and could not get it to accept more.
I don't want to add submenus because the movies being used do not lend themselves to being put into different submenus.
Is there some way to add more than the default drop zones in an idvd template and to add more movies in a menu without having to use submenus?
    Thanks for any advice.

I couldn't figure out how to add more drop zones
Sorry, the templates 'are what they are'.
I don't want to add submenus because the movies being used do not lend themselves to being put into different submenus.
You need to figure out how to work with what is available.
If you want more freedom, buy Apple's Final Cut Studio and learn to use DVD Studio Pro.

  • CHOPPY VIDEO ON MENU AND DROP ZONES

I am ready to burn the DVD but the video on a menu page is very choppy. The drop zone is rotating slowly, etc.
Any ideas on why this is happening? Any ideas on how to fix it?
    Thanks.

    Steve:
As good practice save the project as a disk image (File->Save as Disk Image menu option) instead of burning directly to disk. This allows you to play the disk image in DVD Player to verify that the encoding of the project was good. If the project plays OK in DVD Player you can then burn that disk image to disk with Disk Utility at the slowest speed available. If there is any problems with the disk playing it can then be narrowed down to the burn process. Also use the top grade media. Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden or Maxell -R are the most recommended brands in this forum.

  • Video in drop zone breaking menu transition...

    this seemed simple.
i have a drop zone on my main menu with a quicktime in it. no interactivity. also on the main menu is a text button. that button triggers a custom transition/wipe that i built in motion. eveything worked fine, until i placed the drop zone with the quicktime: what happens is that when the menu button is selected, the drop zone clip jumps to a different point, then applies the transition and goes to the track. but that's not all. when going back to the menu, the drop zone clip will go to somewhere in the middle of that clip, then go to the head...
the menu length is set to the length of the qt in the drop zone.
if i delete the drop zone, the trans works fine.
    any ideas?

    Hi:
The transition in your final disc will be a MPEG-2 video file, it will not be created on the fly while playing. That means that DVDSP will use a frame from your menu as starting point to create the transition "to the movie" video file and another one to create the "from the movie" transition. The same happens when you use a movie as background in your menu.
I don't know what rule uses DVDSP to select what frame to choose to build the transition, but you cannot expect that your transition will start in the frame that you are seeing in any moment. Do you know what I mean?

  • Sync Drop zone w buttons in Main menu

I created buttons for different tracks and a drop zone in my main menu. I can only have a track in that drop zone looping. I want to have the particular track display on my drop zone when ever my arrow selects that particular button on my main menu, so I will know this button has what video content. Is it possible to do that?

Just to make sure we are on the same page, if you look at
http://www.dvdstepbystep.com/1.jpg and you want to scroll down the buttons on the left so the area in the black square to the right shows a different video (not still) you would need different menus. If that black area is just a still, then you can use layered menus.
If you want to hide/reveal little clips to the right of the button for instance, http://www.dvdstepbystep.com/2.jpg, then you would put the movie clips in the background of the menu and hide/reveal the section of the background
