Drop Zones - manipulating media

Is there a way for me to manipulate media after I've dragged it to a Drop Zone? I'd like to scale, crop and reposition media I'm added to a Drop Zone, but I can't find a way to to that.
I see in the Image Inspector I can Fit or Center the media. I've tried unchecking the Drop Zone box in the Image Inspector, but things seem to go haywire from there.
Help?

Ok, I'll answer it myself.
Just keep doing what I mostly do: drop the video footage on the layer in the timeline.
Don't drop it or change via the media well and the duration of the dropzone is preserved.

  • Adjusting Motion Template Media in Drop Zones in FCP

The Motion User's manual claims that you can adjust certain parameters of Drop Zone media in templates in FCP. I'll go to the template's Control tab in the Viewer and there are no options and I do not get a red cross-hair in the Canvas as t says I should.
    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Speaking off the top of my head, if you click on the drop zone then head over to the Inspector pane, there should be a well you can click and drag from to get rid of old content. Not sure why it should hang around though in the first place.

  • Photos won't drop on Drop zones

Photos won't drop on drop zones anymore. I can see the photos in the media browser, but they won't drop where I send them. I had to re-organize my iphoto library a bit, but all the photos are seen and work fine in iphoto, just won't drop into drop zones in idvd 6. A very few photos will work. Is there some re-initializing the library I need to do or something?

  • Adding pictures to a theme, but not in the drop zones...

I don't know if this is a really noob ou really tricky question, but here it goes : )
I'd like to add a/some picture(s) to a iDVD theme, but not in the drop zones. I'd like my pictures to appear as layers, choose whoch one goes in front, and so on...
Is there any way to do that?
Thx, and happy new year ; )

In that case you would need to prepare the background as a QT movie exactly the way you want to display it as a background movie and then drag and drop that prepared QT file to iDVD.
I've never done this type of movie in iLife apps alone but I have with FCP & DVD SP which offers these additional video editing options for sizing pip and frames in an existing movie / menu.
Also check the help Menu for iDVD6 (and iMovie) if you haven't already. I did a search for you and here's what I came up with:
Changing the background image of a DVD menu
You can replace the background image in a menu with your own image. Images in menu backgrounds are cropped to fit the standard DVD window size, but the aspect ratio of the original image is preserved. If you want your image to fit the DVD window exactly, first use an image-editing application to resize the image to 640 x 480 for standard video and 854 x 480 for widescreen.
When you replace a background image, you can also choose to keep the drop zones or remove them completely.
Here are ways to change the background image:
Drag a picture file from the Finder or the Media pane to a DVD menu background, outside a drop zone. Before you drop the picture, press the Command key and choose "Replace background" or "Replace background and drop zones" from the contextual menu that appears (shown above). Then release the mouse button.
Click the Menu button and drag a picture file from the Finder to the background well in the Menu pane. If your theme has drop zones, the drop zones disappear.
Click the Media button, then click Photos. Drag a photo from your iPhoto library or another folder to your DVD menu. If your theme has drop zones, the drop zones are retained.
Choose File > Import > Image, locate and select an image, and click Import. If your theme has drop zones, the drop zones are retained.
To remove a background image and return to the default image for the theme, click the Menu button and drag the image out of the background well (shown above).
    Hope this answers your question/s.

  • How do I get pics into Drop Zones for Templates?

I am having a problem that is probably simple, but for the life of me, I can't figure it out. I opened a templated in Motion and noticed that some of the templates have drop zones, a la iDVD.
Okay, so I found some pics in the browser but when I went to drag them into the drop zone, the image did not go into into the drop zone, and instead a new layer was created. I've tried this countless times and can't seem to gt the pictures to go in the drop zones.
    Am I doing anything wrong?

The problem is one of interpretation. What you are seeing are grey "replace media" items which need to be replaced with what you want. They aren't 'drop zones' ala IDVD or DVDSP (basically it's an image with a mask or overlay over it giving it that 'drop zone' look)
There are many ways of changing/replacing the "media" items (this is Apple after all ;):
    1) If you press F5, you open up the "Layers/Media/Audio" window. Click "Media" and you'll see all the elements used to make up the template, including "replace 1.jpg" etc.
2)Click on one of the "replace" files. Then click the "Inspector" tab in the Browser window. Then you'll see a window that says "Linked Objects." and below that "replace media file." Click "Replace media File" and then choose the file you want to insert/replace (you'll have to de-select "Show Matching Names Only" to be able to replace it with your own file)
    OR:
    1) press F6 and open the Timeline window.
    2) Scroll down and you will see a layer called "Replace"
    3) Open up that layer (click the triangle) and you will see Replace 1, Replace 2, etc (depends on your template)
    4) Drag the image you want to insert/replace into the template to the sublayer called "replace 1" etc.
There are other ways, but these two are the most 'stable' I have found.

  • Movie Clips in Drop Zones?

I want to place movie clips into the drop zones, but cannot figure out how to do this. When I go to "Media" my movie clips are not available. The movie appears in the bottom portion of the media window, but I cannot get individual clips to put into the zone.

There's a bug in iDVD where indiviadual clips in a folder, that have other folders in with them, don't show up.
Put your clips in a folder without any other folders.

  • Drop zones in iWork

While using a template in iWork you can drag a picture from the Media Browser into a 'drop zone' type area that is preformatted for a portrait/landscape picture and it has a nice frame and drop shadow around it. How can I create these 'drop zones' for my own templates? Do I need to be a developer for this? What does it take?
(I know I can go into Photoshop and create a page with transparency for the background and do 'cut-outs' but I don't want cut-outs. They are limited.)
    Thanks for any input.

"Drop zones" in Keynote are nothing more than backgrounds with cutouts, and whatever graphical fanciness has been added. In Pages, there are Placeholder Images (defined in the Format menu, under the Advanced flyout menu), and these images can have default rotation, masks, and dropshadows, but again the framing will be a graphical feature, and not a feature of the placeholder itself.

  • Drop Zone Photo Quality

I created a DVD and added images to the Drop Zones. When completed I burned the DVD. The images in the Drop Zones are grainy with horizontal lines.
The preview before the burn looked fine, really crisp and clear.
    Note:
I did use the computer for other things while burning. Do you think that caused the image quality to drop? Should I not do anything while buring the DVD?
    Thanks,

I doubt that is the source of your image quality problems. What was the size (in pixels) of the images you used?
Should I not do anything while buring the
    DVD?
Back in the old days (a couple of years ago) with slower processors, doing two things at one could be a problem. With the faster (and dual) processors we have now, using your computer for something else during the encoding/multiplexing process might lengthen the process but shouldn't cause problems. Make your initial 'burn' to a disk image on your hard drive and then use Apple's Disk Utility or Roxuo's Toast Titanium to burn the image file to writable media. I try to avoid using my computer during the actual burning process to avoid any burner buffer-underruns because of hard drive access issues.

  • CHOPPY VIDEO ON MENU AND DROP ZONES

I am ready to burn the DVD but the video on a menu page is very choppy. The drop zone is rotating slowly, etc.
Any ideas on why this is happening? Any ideas on how to fix it?
    Thanks.

    Steve:
As good practice save the project as a disk image (File->Save as Disk Image menu option) instead of burning directly to disk. This allows you to play the disk image in DVD Player to verify that the encoding of the project was good. If the project plays OK in DVD Player you can then burn that disk image to disk with Disk Utility at the slowest speed available. If there is any problems with the disk playing it can then be narrowed down to the burn process. Also use the top grade media. Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden or Maxell -R are the most recommended brands in this forum.

  • Help with DROP ZONES!!

Hi. Firstly, sorry if I'm not able to explain myself in the proper terminology...very new to Pages and all.
    Here is my query:
How do you create a Drop Zone (if that's what it's called)? i.e.The zones on the templates that enable you to drop a picture (any image) in them and they fill the shape entirely. So instead as using a solid colour as a fill, you'd use an image?
    Thank you!!

    pseudo,
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
In Pages' parlance, it's called a Placeholder. Just insert an image, any image, into your Pages document. Select it. Click on Format > Advanced > Define As Media Placeholder. That's all there is to it.

  • Images won't appear in Drop Zones

This has been bugging me for a while now. I am trying to create an easy to use/burn presentation platform for a recent group trip I went on. I'd like to eventually be able to burn copies to a DVD so that others may have a copy of our adventure. At first I was going to just create a slideshow using iDVD, when I came into these troubles I switched to using iMovie to create a slideshow with the music I want and the transitions I want. That still leaves the embellishment portion of it. I don't want the menus to look boring.
What I am finding to be troublesome is that I try to import images from iPhoto into iDVD and they some times, more often than not, will not appear in the drop zones on the larger screen. They will show in the editor but not above. I've tried changing themes, same thing. I have also tried to bypass iPhoto by importing the images I want into the drop zones by using the File>Import>Image... route.
Please, any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!
    I'm running on a Mac OS X v10.6.8 with 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 8GB 1067 MHz DDR3.
    The iDVD is version 7.1.1

hi there, I am confused when you stated you cant "import images from iPhoto into iDVD"  .
The way I get photos into the drop zones is to drag the photos from the media browser on the right hand side of the screen. I don't "import" .. unless I'm misinterpreting the use of that term. here is my idvd project and note on the bottom right hand side I've clicked Media.  Then I click Photos on the top and it shows me all my photos. Thats where I drag and drop FROM.
Note you can also drag and drop photos from a finder window. The only time I have issues is if my photo is a landscape and I'm trying to stick it into a box that is portrait and vice-versa.
    does this help at all?

  • Creating a mask within a drop zone

    Hey,
Does anyone know if it is even possible to create a mask within a drop zone or the video assets so I can essentially cropping off the black bars in my 4:3 Letterbox video. Was shot on the Panasonic DVX100.
    Chris

    Hey,
I'm creating my chapter/scene selection index/menu and I am wanting to find a way to re-shape the mask so I can reveal more of a still on the drop zone. The way the mask is setup is it is cropping off too much of my frame. Whenever I adjust the media handles all that does is change the size of the drop zone which isn't what I want to do. I just want to drag more of the frame over.
Any idea how to do this? The manual does not help and I am trying to Google to find my answer. No luck so far.

  • Drop zone inquiry

I used drop zone 1 and drop zone 2 for two presentations in iDVD.
What settings or what do I do to make the zone 1 play and then go immediatly into the zone 2 presentation?

    Hi
Not really sure that You uses the name "Drop Zone" right. As I understands it it's not the real way to play movies in iDVD but only as menu trailers.
So they are only meant as buttons to play the real content.
    So I do
    • Never in iMovie use "Share to iDVD" - But Share to Media Browser and as Large - then in iDVD I import from it's Media Browser.
Then I figure on Your note - to play one after the other. There is no Play All button in iDVD - but has to be worked around.
    a. One can put several movies into a SlideShow project - this works as a Play All function - ONE ONLY also has to un-check "Scale Picture" here else one get a big black frame on all sides when played
    b. I rather do this - I make one more movie - containing all of the others and with Chapter Marks - this I also add to iDVD project.
This will take x2 space on DVD but is easy to be done and to understand.
    Yours Beng W

  • Drop Zone Issue

Since updating to FCPX 10.0.6,  Both Titles, Transistions and Gernerators that came with final cut and one's I have made myself do not allow me fill a Drop Zone with video. It fill's the drop zone with a Still from the last frame of the video clip I inserted, instead of playing the whole video clip. It worked prior to the upgrade and is something I use on a regular basis. Any Ideas? I've also tried on HD and SD Projects, I'm running the news update of Mountain Lion, and I have 16 iMacs with the same issue.

Drop Zones have been improved in 10.0.6, so I'm sorry you are having difficulties. Motion Titles and Generators (and I'm sure Transitions) with drop zones now behave as expected -- i.e.: dragging out the effect clip will no longer change the playback speed/retiming of the drop zone media, nor will it be limited to the original length of the effect as it was before; which means, you can drop a clip and resize the template to accomodate the playing length of the clip without sacrificing the timing or a predefined "out point".
There is a recommendation for "best practices" for upgrading to 10.0.6 (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5550?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US).  I think it was incomplete (at least it was in my case) because of the preferences issues that came about.  You can try to delete preferences, but I ended up doing a complete "fresh" install. I followed these instructions: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5149 to remove any and all possible problem files.
*My* issue was mainly that none of the text boxes I published from Motion would appear in FCPX. There was also another "presumed" issue which turned out not to be one: Anamorphic Override (apparently ONLY appears for SD media and not for 1440x1080 media... maybe next release...)
So, try deleting preferences first (http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/) and if worse comes to worse (and I hope for your sake it doesn't come to this!): do a fresh install... that should clean up any issues you might be having.

  • Transforming image inside of a drop zone?

I placed an image into a drop zone in a template in Motion 4, and it is too big to display the whole graphic. I cropped the image and re-imported it into the drop zone, though it is still dot displaying the whole width of the text on the graphic. How can I transform the graphic after placing it in the drop zone so it displays all of the text on the graphic?
    thanks.
