Dropbox uploading/syncing speeds are extremely slow

I've noticed that when I am in Windows my Dropbox uploading speeds are relatively fast but when I am using Arch Linux it uploads at a crawl. When I initially start the program it jumps up to a fast rate and then almost immediately starts to slide down to about 20 kbs.
I looked at my Dropbox settings and I made sure nothing is throttled including the download speeds.  Does this have something to do with my specific network configuration in Arch Linux? Its definitely not my ISP since in Windows using the same connection Dropbox is really fast.

I could only find this on the internet, besides that I am out of ideas:
Preferences > Network > Bandwidth > Change Settings. Once there, change your Upload rate to "Don't limit", or if you're familiar with your network's upload bandwidth and want to exercise a little more control, pick an upload limit that you're comfortable with in the Limit to field.
Maybe it is related to your network configuration. Dropbox is working fine here.

  • Wi-Fi speeds are extremely slow with Arris modem

    Hello all,
I just "upgraded" my TWC modem to the Arris model. The hardline speed is 300 Mbps/30, and my Wi-Fi speed test using the Airport Extreme AC is 14.58/20.68. That's <10% of my hardwire speed. What gives?
    Regards,
    David

Check the speed at a LAN <--> Ethernet port on the AirPort Extreme first, before you mess with wireless. Get that up to speed, then work on wireless issues.
If speeds are still slow using the Ethernet connection, reset the AirPort Extreme back to factory default settings to clear out all the old settings,  and set it up again.
As is, the AirPort Extreme is likely not associating with the new modem correctly, since it remembers too many things about the previous modem.

  • Help! Play store download speeds are extremely slow

Hey guys, I just got my galaxy s4 a couple of days ago and I am just encountering a new problem. When I try to download an app from the play store it takes FOREVER to download it, I'm talking 10kb/s. Does anyone know of this problem and a solution for it? Thanks a ton!

        Good morning tony12345,
Let's speed things up for you! Your Galaxy S4 is capable of much faster downloading speeds. Ensure that LTE/CDMA is selected http://vz.to/18J32hS and make sure to disable WiFi. Also confirm your coverage signal http://bit.ly/qQR9lM as low speeds are normal for areas with extended coverage.

  • My macbook internet download speed is extremely slow. I have tried other computers both windows and mac on the same line and speeds are normal. What is the problem?

My macbook internet download speed is extremely slow. I have tried 2 other computers, another mac and windows and the download speed is over 10mb but with this macbook pro it is less than 1mb. What is causing this and how to fix?

To find out how much space you have & what is left, open up Disk Utility/Machintosh HD/First Aid.  The info will be at the bottom of the window.
Sluggish Finder - Bunch of icons on your desktop?  An overcrowded desktop slows down your Mac.
Get rid of needless Finder calculations - Open a window in Finder/View/Show View Options:  ensure "Calculate All Sizes" option is unchecked.
Internet related - It's likely that your broadband connection is the bottleneck.  You can check your speed on http://www.speedtest.net to see how fast your connection is.  If your web browser specifically performs slowly, quit and relaunch it.
If browser remains sluggish, empty its cache.
    Safari/Empty Cache
Firefox/Preferences - select the Network tab of the Advanced preferences and click the "Clear Now" button in the "Offline Storage" area.
Application related - Launch "Activity Monitor" - Applications/Utilities - click the CPU heading and see what float to the top.  If an application takes up a large chunk of CPU and won't let it go, it could be dragging down your Mac's performance.  Quit it by clicking the Quit Process button at the top of the Activity Monitor window.
Too little ram - max out your ram.
Solution may be found if you search in the "More Like This" section over in the right column.

  • Pdf's are extremely slow to open and attach in outlook 2007

For the past two weeks, Pdf's are extremely slow to open and attach in outlook 2007.  currently have Adobe Acrobat X Standard and Adobe Reader X running on windows 7, using microsoft office 2007.  is anyone else having this issue?

In an effort to try and solve this I have converted the four reports to native POJO datasources. I thought that maybe the report was looking for the ODBC data source upon which the reports were designed. The ODBC approach was used to help speed up design and development. Now that the DB schema is up and running I can use the POJO and eclipse for preview.
No change in startup and exporting on the QA system.

  • After updating to 4.3 I can't connect to wi-fi because the "internet speeds are too slow". How much speed does this require?

After updating to 4.3 I can't connect to wi-fi because the "Internet speeds are too slow". So what speed does it need?

I called tech support and I got the same **** canned response, backup and reset to factory settings.  Yeah right!  Everything was fine until Verizon shoved the software update down my throat.  I finally unchecked the box in Wi-Fi settings for auto network switch.  However, I still get the "Your Internet connection is unstable" warning no matter what Wi-Fi connection I hit.
In a related story, I received a new or refurbished phone as my original SIII had AC/charging connection issues.  I called probably three times to attempt to back up my data, went into two stores in attempts to have them transfer the information over, and all were too incompetent and inept to assist me.  Only when talking to someone about this Wi-Fi issue, did someone actually know how to back up everything.  Of course by this time, I had to send the new phone back because Verizon charged me $400 before I got everything squared away.  What a colossal waste of my time!

  • ATV sync speed super stupid slow.

How quickly does it take you to sync one 45 minute TV show from your ATV to your computer? Mine takes me about 45 minutes. Is this normal? If not, how can i speed this up? I have a wireless Linksys router that hasn't been slow transferring files from my MBP to my G5, or any other capacity. If it is the ATV, why does the sync speed blow?

Well, it's new in that it's always been this way since i bought it new. It's just always seemed slow. It took about 2 hours to sync 8 shows from X-Files Season 2 last night. That works out to being about 2.5 GB, but that STILL seems super slow for this network. I have no issues streaming, so i wonder if this length is supposed to happen.
Now, just to be clear, i have a wireless Linksys router (WRT54G V8). I'm pretty savvy re: computers, but i'm a bit weak on networks, so it might not be optimized. I know sometimes my handheld phone can interfere with me streaming to my airport, but only when it is in use.
Otherwise, the router is hardwired to a Comcast modem. Thoughts?

  • Videos are extremely slow when trying to view them

Here is the situation. I have been posting course material for over a year now, and everything had been working fine. Over the last week, any video that I try to view from our iTunes U site is taking at least 5 minutes to play, when I double click on the video I get the loading bar, the videos that are less than 30 minutes long take between 5 - 8 minutes to play, the ones that are over 30 minutes take between 10 - 15 minutes to play. This had never happened before, and the weird thing is that I can go to any other iTunes U site and view videos that are two hours long and it takes less than a minute to play. So I know its not my network bandwidth or I wouldn't be able to view other sites. I use an iMac with a 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB of Ram, bought specifically for iTunes U administration. I don't know what else to do. Any help or advice will be truly appreciated.

I have also found our iTunes U site extremely slow for the past few weeks. It also took a long, long time to log into Admin. But at least for us, there has been a noticeable change (for the better) in the last few days.

  • Database export/exports are extremely slow

We run PeopleSoft (PeopleTools version 8.46) applications on Oracle 10g (10.1.0.3). database exports/imports were extremely slow, so when we contact PeopleSoft customer connection, we were advised to modify the init.ora file with the "_optimizer_cost_based_transformation=off". After we set the init.ora file, exports/imports are very fast.
What is optimizercost_based_transformation? will database performance have any effect by setting this parameter? Does anybody has issues with 10g export/import issues?
    any help?
    Thanks,

Here is the extract from PeopleSoft customer connection -
    . Required INIT.ORA Parameters for Oracle 10g
    . Change #1 - optimizercost_based_transformation=off
According to Oracle support: "This parameter controls whether query transformations (sub-query unnesting, complex view merging and push join predicate ) are performed using an algorithm that relies only on optimizer cost (new in 10g) or an algorithm that uses a combination of optimizer cost and heuristics (pre-10g). "
Can anbody tell me how extaclty this parameter will affect the performance of the system? Althoght we didn't see any performance issues right now (We are just in the process of implimentaion) Going forward, i am worried to have this im my init.ora file.
Any thoughts/suggestions related to this topic is helpful.
    THanks,

  • Syncing has become extremely slow with iOS 5.

After install of iOS 5, syncing from my PC to my iPhone 4 has become extremely slow. I've uninstalled iTunes, and restored my iPhone 4.
    Anyone have a solution?
(by "slow" I mean I've been working on it for 16 hrs. Still not done.)

I did two things that made syncing an iPhone 4 with iOS5 a lot more speedier; not sure which did the trick but my iPhone now syncs in seconds rather than churn on and on and on.  Here's what I did.  First, in iTunes, under Edit, Preference, Devices, I checked the "Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically".  Second, I deleted all my old iPhone backups.  After doing these two things, my iPhone 4 with iOS5 in iTunes 10.5 syncs in seconds.

  • ITunes library updates are extremely slow (10 sec/update)

    Hi All,
Since a week or two i'm experiencing extremely slow iTunes library updates. Adding a song, or skipping to the next song (which updates id3 info), causes iTunes to wait for 10 seconds. This is very frustrating when skipping trough a selection of 700 new songs. Costs me 2 hours extra to check the songs...
My system is okay; nothing out of the ordinary; it has been running like this for years now. Suddenly iTunes stopped being cooperative. Is there somebody that can help me out here?
Latest versions of both iTunes and osx.

500 gig, 3 gig space left: so plenty
Not plenty at all. In fact, very dangerously low on free space.
As a general rule, you should have at least 10%-15% free space on the boot drive for the OS to operate correctly. This is needed for swap files and for the OS to move files around correctly.
I recommend you immediately delete at least 45GB of old files from your boot drive. If not, it's simply a matter of time before you HD crashes and you lose everything.

  • Downloads are Extremely Slow!!

Downloads of Word docs, Powerpoints are painfully slow. I use Safari. Switching to Firefox, the application crashes. This is not a positive upgrade!!

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions..
    Are you asking for help?
For Safari, if you have any 3rd party plugins, they may not be compatible with SL.
Go here: ~/Library/Internet Plugins If there are any apps in that folder, send them to the Trash.
How much free space on the startup disk?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.
If you didn't repair disk permissions after installing SL, try that.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Upload speed is extremely slow. I can't figure out why.

My problem is my iMac uploads files slower than a modem from the 1980s.
The download speed of my cable internet is great, no problems getting video, music, etc. But if I try and FTP or even send an email attachment larger than 35K it takes a ridiculious amount of time to do it. A 100K attachment can take several minutes. FTPing through Dreamweaver or Transmit usually results in the servers timing-out before the file is sent. The upload starts then stops, then starts, then stops (you get the idea)
The reason I think it's my machine is my wife and I use the same network to access the internet (therefore same router and modem), and she has absolutely no problems with uploads. It also takes a very long time to copy files between our computers and I had to move our USB printer from her machine to mine because nothing would be sent when I tried to print.
Does anybody have a suggestions? I would really appreciate any thoughts.
    Thanks so much
(BTW I've tried 4 different ethernet cables and switching router ports)

Hi, and welcome to the forums.
I suspect this is way beyond my expertise, but here are a few things you might not have considered:
Have you checked both your Mac and your wife's up- and down-load speeds? The site I use is Toast, at http://performance.toast.net/
It's worth a visit for the very cool F16 picture alone! And you can use a file of your own to test uploading. Might tell you something.
Could it have to do with your router? I've never used one, but my son managed to get his messed-up where it was doing something similar with his 2 computers (like you, his wife's was faster . . . hmmmm.)
Have you poked around in these forums? You'll find some similar problems, some with actual answers!
It sounds doubtful, but have you done any upgrades, installed software, etc. lately? Have you done periodic maintenance? If not, here's a very good start:

Hopefully you'll hear soon from a Mac guru!
    Good luck.
