Dropbox Using Memory on iPhone 5c

Hi all,
I have just seen under settings->general->usage->manage storage that my Dropbox is using up 440MB of memory on my iPhone 5c.
I thought all of the files are stored in the cloud?
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to clear this amount of data? I have tried switching my phone off and on again to clear the cache but the data is still there!
Thanks
Chris

I have a MacBook 4,1 with Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB memory, what do I ned to do to be able to download Itunes 10.5 so I can use my new Iphone 4s?

When I tried to activate my phone through ITunes it said I needed iTunes 10.5. I tried to download it and it wouldn't work. Do I need Snow Leopard?

  • Memory on iPhone 4S

I have an iphone 4Gs - 32GB.  I recently purchased a movie on iTunes but did not have enough memory, so I erased a few movies and a bunch of apps until it said I had enough.  Half way through, there was an error saying that I did not have enough.  I tried to erase more stuff and then noticed that the used memory + free memory didn't add up to 32GB, it was more like 24GB.
How come I can't successfully download the movie if it said I had enough space?  Help please!!
    Thanks!
    M.

Will this mean when I re-sync my iPhone with the latest backup, will it go back to the exact same way it was before I restored? Like will all my texts, contacts, etc be there?

  • "Nobody" using memory?

I find the following in my Activity Monitor:
    101 usbmuxd nobody 0.00 2 532.00 KB 26.98 MB Intel
    Who is nobody?

A google search has produced an answer to my question of what does usbmuxd do? It's the program that looks for your iPhone in order to sync it up.
http://www.ehmac.ca/anything-mac/53805-anyone-know-what-usbmuxd.html also has links to further information if you're curious.
The second post on this thread has some great info about who is nobody. Also your concern about it using memory is likely of no importance, first because it's a really small amount, and second because in the event your computer needs that half-meg desperately, I would hypothesize that it could easily be paged out to disk and freed up until you plug that thar iPhone back in. Don't quote me on that though. Who knows, maybe it's wired down.

  • Do you still use memory Freeing apps?

Do you still use memory freeing apps now that you have an Iphone 4?
Are there any benefits to using one, while using an Iphone 4?
I used to use these apps all of the time when I had a Iphone 3g, but I haven't found the need for one on my Iphone 4.

I'm using the app called "System Activity Monitor" I think it costs you money to buy one, but it's a nice feature, it frees up some memory automatically if you launch the app, it also shows you what processor you are running. I barely go on it but sometimes when I check I find that I only have 5 MB of ram left and it's nice that it frees it up automatically. Other than that I don't usually check it often but there are times when I do need to check it.

  • Used memory in "restore from backup"

    So, here's the deal:
When iOS 7 was made available to the public, I had no but's nor if's and updated my iPhone 4S immediately (from 6.1). Of course, I didn't forget to backup my data just so incase when the update becomes successful, I'd just have my old stuff restored on my phone. However, when I restored from backup, I saw how my memory dropped down even if there wasn't any application installed yet on my phone. It was given though that I had quite a lot of pictures and videos (more or less 3GB) on my photos app, but that was it. I'm using a 16GB iPhone 4S btw, and when I checked the memory left under the "usage" section on my settings, I had like 7 or was it 8GB left on my phone. I can still remember when I was on 5.1.1, I jailbroken my phone and downloaded a dotlock app that would allow me to download songs/videos on the net, and I had 2GB worth of files on that app. When 6.1 was out, and a jailbreak for it was available, I updated and jailbroken my device. I was quite surprised coz when I installed the dotlock app again and opened it, the files were still there!
Now, I'm suspecting that the files on that dotlock app was also saved when I did a backup before I updated to iOS 7. The thing is, I have no plans on jailbreaking again (got the dotlock app from installous before).
Do you guys think that the reason why I have a very occupied memory on my phone is because of that app that has been backed up as well? I only have 300MB left on my memory, and it *****.. Help!

    Hi there,
sorry, but devices with manipulated firmware are not supported here.

  • IPhone.... well ALL APPLE PRODUCTS... missing memory (8GB iPhone)

have you ever had a iPod, and noticed it had less memory than you payed for?? go to "about" on any apple product wiith storage, and i gaurentee that it has less than it claims. my 4G nano has 3.6 GB, my 8GB iphone has 7.3 GB (if you have a MAC mini than i gaurentee there is at least 2GB missing. tell me, why does apple do this?? for the operating system? it shouldnt be that way if iPhone takes .7 GB to function then they should really make a 8.7GB model and hide the .7GB ..........

    nick0HHHlass,
There is two things at work here. One, is the difference between 1000, and 1024, carried out to several factors, as well as space needed for the software for the computer or the iPhone. This article discusses it, as well as my own explanation below:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=30065
So first off, an 8GB iPhone has flash storage memory with at 8,000,000,000 bytes. When the drive is labeled, that is rounded off to 8GB because when labeled they use 1000 bytes per kilobyte, and 1000 kilobytes per megabyte, and 1000 megabytes for gigabyte. However, when a computer looks at a device it looks at it by powers of 2. This applies to any storage drive whether its intended for a Mac, PC, server, iPod, etc.
A computer divides the 8,000,000,000 bytes by 1024 to get kilobytes, then by 1024 to get megabytes, and then by 1024 to get gigabytes. So that it is reported at around 7.5 GB. Then from that there is space used for the software to run your iPhone. This is the same with any computer. Look at the hard drive properties (Windows-based PC) or Get Info (Mac). Disk utility gives more information than get info. For example the iMac I am using has a drive with 160,041,885,696 Bytes, but after formatting it is reported as 148.9 GB (159,907,630,080 Bytes). This article contains the same information in regards to iPod drives:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60955
Second, more is space is lost for the data needed "format" or organize the drive. The space used for the formatting becomes less efficient as the drive gets larger, so its not a set percentage. This article discusses efficiency in formatting as drive sizes get bigger:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=8647
Additional space is used for the iPhone's own software. This is the same with any computer.
Other things that may take up additional space, pre-installed software beyond the OS on a computer typically ranges between 5-25 GB currently. In addition some Windows-based PCs may have additional space in a hidden "restore" partition used for reinstalling software.
    Hope this helps to explain,
    Nathan C.

Find My iPhone is good for misplaced iPhone but not good for thief and it was never meant to be.
You chance of getting it back is very small.
There are a few things you can try.
Try remote lock/wipe your iPhone through Find My iPhone.

You can report to the police, cell carrier (expensive cell charges for international calls, roaming etc)
Change all the passwords used in iPhone: Apple ID, E-mail, Bank Account ....

I downloaded a free Merriam-Webster Dictionary app for use on my iphone 5.  I thought I followed the download process properly, but cannot see that the app is launched on my phone.  I have checked my phone for 'updates' and the app is listed among the ones I have purchased.  I clicked on it and it began installing, however, it still has not launched.  I get a message screen to sign in with my Apple ID, which I tried, and I get the message that I have purchased this app and it will download.  When I try to sign in, I get the message that it can't connect to the itunes store and to retry.  I've done that several times without any luck...not sure where else to look for the 'working' app.  I did try re-booting the phone...even did a 'hard reset' to no avail...help?

  • HT1212 I just updated my Ipad 2 to IOS7, now it is asking me for a passcode. I never set a passcode on my Ipad, so how can I enter a passcode. I tried using the OIS7 passcode I use on my Iphone  and it did not work and now my Ipad is disabled

I just updated my Ipad 2 to IOS 7, now it is asking me for a passcode. I never set a passcode on my Ipad, so how can I enter a passcode. Earlier today I upgraded my Iphone 5 to IOS 7 and it asked me to set a passcode, which now works fine on my Phone. I  tried using the OIS7 passcode I use on my Iphone 5 and it did not work and now my Ipad is disabled. Both devices are on icloud and share the same apple id. The Ipad screen says slide to set up but then there is a prompt for passcode, not for setting up passcode

I called Apple Support and a supervisor helped resolve this for me on my iPad. I suggest calling them for help as this is obviously an issue with the iOS 7 update - she helped me without charge. I could be missing something in my upcoming description, so do not take this as complete - call them.
I had to update iTunes on my Mac Air to the latest version, and I had an iCloud backup from the day I updated to iOS7. Have iTunes open but do NOT connect your iPad yet. Shut down the iPad. Then press/hold the Home key on the iPad while you connect the USB from the iPad to the computer (an image of the USB cable appeared on the iPad). Follow the prompts in iTunes to restore and then backup using iCloud. When the iPad rebooted again to do the backup install, I got the same pass code issue and iTunes would not recognize the iPad without entering a pass code. I disconnected the iPad, turned it off, pressed the Home key while connecting the USB cable. When I did the restore and backup from iCloud the second time, it worked without the pass code issue occurring.

  • Can i use a 2nd iphone if i install itunes on another user account.when i tried to create a second library i messed up both phones, the second one now has all my contacts and when it sends txts it either says its my other phone or email address

can i use a 2nd iphone if i install itunes on another user account.when i tried to create a second library i messed up both phones, the second one now has all my contacts and when it sends txts it either says its my other phone or email address. i can cope with the first phone and getting it back on itunes but dont want to syn the 2nd phone until i know it is independant of the other one. Does it matter that both phones use the same itunes store account?

Deleting the account on your phone only removes if from your phone.  The account and it's data remain intact and doing so will not effect your daughter's phone.
To do this, first go to Settings>iCloud on your phone and turn any synced data (contacts, calendars, etc.) to Off, and when prompted, choose to keep the data on the phone.  When finished, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  Then set up a new iCloud account with a different Apple ID and turn any data you want to sync with iCloud (contact, calendars, etc.) back to On.  This will upload your data to your new iCloud account.

  • HT4623 How can I change my Icloud account on my ipad to the one I use on my iphone?

How can I change my Icloud account on my ipad to the one I use on my iphone?
For example on my iphone I log in with a yahoo account.  My ipod was originally set up with another e-mail account (which I can't remember the password).  I want to use the yahoo e-mail and the password associated with it to log on to both devices.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Firstly, you need to change your details with Apple,  Start here, change your country if necessary and go to manage your account.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")
Providing you are simply updating your existing details and not changing to another account, when you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your computer, you need to sign out of the account from your computer first, then sign back in using your updated details. (System Preferences > iCloud, click the sign out button)
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iTunes account on your iOS device, you need to sign out from your iOS device first, then sign back in using your updated details. (Settings > iTunes & App store, scroll down and tap your ID)
If you are using iMessages or FaceTime, you will also need to log out and into your ID there too.
