Dropdwon listboxes in pl/sql

Hi,
This is what I want to do. I have created forms using pl/sql and I have 2 dropdown list boxes. The information in the listboxes comes from a table in the database. The first one is a source system. and the second one is an rma number. I want it so that when the source system is picked that only the rma numbers related to that source system will be displayed in the DDL. Is it possible to do this? if so How? There are approximately 100,000 rma_numbers in the database

You should have a record group based on a select that fetches the "rma numbers" (whatever those are)depending on the "source system". Then, on the when-list-changed trigger for the "source system" list-item, use populate_list('rma_num_list', 'rma_record_group');
I figure that's what you need.

For the second (rma) ddl, you could create a record group to hold the values, with Type Query and the Query set to:
Select RMA, RMA from TABLE_RMA where SOURCE = :some_variable
Then for the when-button-pressed, etc, triggers call a procedure that uses the built-in "POPULATE_LIST" with say:
POPULATE_LIST(the_lists_id, 'the_record_groups_name');
I think that would work.

Return the value of a form field to WHERE condition in LOV SQL

I'm an APEX newbie.
I'm developing an APEX app using a form based on a dynamic report. The form opens when I click a record in the report, and uses an Automated Row Fetch process to populate the form with the selected record's values.
I have included a few hidden fields on my form, which I want to act as conditions for the WHERE statements in related list boxes, in order to limit the number of list items. For example, I have a field P4_CONT_DEPT_ID, which contains a department number. I have a list box called P4_DIVISION_NAME, which I want to populate with only the devisions related to the current department #.
Here is my List Of Values definition SQL for P4_DIVISISON_NAME
SELECT CONT_DIVISION_NAME display_value, CONT_DIVISION_ID return_value
FROM CONTACTS_DIVISION
WHERE CONT_DIVISION_ID IN
(select DEPT_DIVISION_XREF.cont_division_id from DEPT_DIVISION_XREF
WHERE DEPT_DIVISION_XREF.cont_dept_id = :P4_CONT_DEPT_ID)
GROUP BY CONT_DIVISION_NAME, CONT_DIVISION_ID

Note that I refer to P4_CONT_DEPT_ID to limit the list. This query is not working. ALL values in the listbox's parent table are returned, not the ones specific to the dept id. If I hard code the dept id, it works fine. What am I missing here?
I should mention that I'm using APEX 3.2. I know that creating dynamic list boxes is not going to be easy, even this first step is giving me fits! But I have to remain on this version. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

I figured it out. The bind variable substitution works as designed. It was just my head that wasn't working right.

Populating cascading listboxes without processing the query in HIR 8.3

I have 2 listboxes. First listbox populated using Group Number. Second Listbox should contain all account numbers corresponding to the Group Number selected in the first listbox, I need to do this without processing the query. I tried this way :
1.     Created a query section “Query” and in that created a limit Group Number. Through this limit I am populating the first lisbox.
2.     Created another query section “Query2”. In that created Group Number as first limit and Account Numbers as another listbox.
3.     After selecting the Group Number from listbox1, I am passing this value to the first limit of “Query2”.
4.     I am doing RefreshAvailableValues on the second limit of “Query2”. Now I am expecting the records corresponding the selected account number in the second limit of “Query2”. But I’m getting all the available values.
What is wrong in the above or any better solution is available please suggest.

Why do you want to do this without processing a query.
Each time you execute the script RefreshAvailableValues you are essentially executing a query...look at the Query log.
As for the issue in # 4 you will want to change the properties on the Data Model. From menu select

Data Model Options: Filters
Use the Filters tab to specify filter browse level preferences and to select global filter options.
When you use Show Values to set filters, you may sometimes need to sift through a lot of data to find the particular values you need. Filter preferences enable you to dictate the way existing filters reduce the values available through the Show Values command.
For example, you want to retrieve customer information only from selected cities in Ohio. However, the database table of customer addresses is very large. Because Interactive Reporting applies a default filter preference, once you place the initial filter on State, the Show Values set returned for City is automatically narrowed to those cities located in Ohio. This saves you from returning thousands of customers, states, and from all sales regions.
You can adjust this preference so that the initial filter selection has no effect on the potential values returned for the second filter (all cities are returned regardless of state).
Filter Options
Show Minimum Value Set—Displays only values that are applicable given all existing filters. This preference takes into account filters on all tables and related through all joins in the data model (which could be potentially a very large and long running query).
Show Values Within Topic—Displays values applicable given existing filters in the same topic. This preference does not take into account filters associated by joins in the data model.
Show All Values—Displays all values associated with an item, regardless of any established filters.
Tip:
When setting these preferences for metatopics, be sure to display the data model in Original view.
Global Filter Options (Designer only)
Show Values—Globally restricts use of the Show Values command in the Filter dialog box, which is used to retrieve values from the server.
Custom Values—Globally restricts use of the Custom Values command in the Filter dialog box, which is used to access a custom values list saved with the Interactive Reporting document file or in a flat file.
Custom SQL—Enables the user to code a filter directly using SQL.
Note:
The Topic Priority dialog box is displayed only if you first select join in the data model.

Since most data models do not have the same set of topics, you cannot save changes to the topic priority as default user preferences. (For more information on default user preferences, see Saving Data Model Options as User Preferences.)Often times if I am trying to load controls for parameter screen I will have a seperate query and results section for that purpose. Then I use the Filter/Limit on the Results section to control the cascade feature you are trying to accomplish. In your case your results would contain the distinct list of Group Number and Account Number.

Help Needed!! Working with SQL Databases

I'm currently working on an application that interfaces with an SQL database, and I seem to have ran into a roadblock.
I have a multicolumn list box on my front panel which is filled in with data extracted from the database. On selecting any of the rows in the list box, another one is opened displaying another set of data extracted by a generated SQL query. At the moment I am only selecting one row at a time to view it's related data, but I want to expand such that I can select mutiple rows from the list box at a time and see all of their corresponding data.
With only a single selection, I can pass the index value of the selection to an Index Array Function with the database as the other input and build my SQL statement.
But with multiple selections, I imagine I would have to build an array on index values and use those as a reference to build the SQL statment. And I am not sure how exactly to go about doing that.
Here is the code that I currently have working for a single selection from the list box.

Regarding building the array:
I can see hat you multicolumn listbox has not multiselection enabled, and is limited to one or zero selected item at once. To enable multiselction; simply rightclick your multicolumn listbox and change your selection mode to support multiple selected items. The NewVal at the event structure should change from a single index number to a 1D array of indexed numbers. No coding needed. Then just retrive out all the items (since you know the indexes) and create the quiry. The quiry part I dont really know (long time no see SQL), but it looks like a for loop to create the string should do the trick?

I have a similar situation, but rather than a select statement, it's an update statement. I'm still VERY new to APEX and Oracle SQL. I'm used to using MS Access & VBA, but the project that was handed to me is APEX, so I'm doing my best to learn it.

The process that should happen is this: User picks several items from ITEM_ENTRY, then chooses which column to update in COLUMN_NAMES to whatever is in TEXT_ENTRY.
Using the APEX function to cycle through the ITEM_ENTRY results, I've tried SEVERAL ways, all of which resulted in multiple errors. I've spent over a week, off and on, on this issue. Here is the most basic version.

Yes, Its possible which behaves as system CFL.
Design the form like cfl having grid, choose button, cancel button and edittext of find. When you tab on edittext on form open the CFL form and after load form fill the grid by Datatable using sql query. Write code for select grid line on click of grid. Write the code on choose button which retrive value from grid.

Windows 2008 64-bit SQL Server 2008 64-bit Linked Server fails - ODBC connects but has issues

Installed the 64 but Oracle 11g client and Oracle ODAC.

Did the same process on a Windows 7 32 bit Enterprise - ODBC Works after installing ODAC
ODBC worked, shows list of Oracle servers - picked the server - ODBC successful - MS Access able to use that ODBC service.
In Windows 2008 64 bit installed both Oracle 11g Client and 64 bit ODAC - ODBC opens, the list of oracle servers doesn't populate, hard code in the host name - ODBC reports Success.
Another Person Suggested: Win7 64-bit with Oracle 11g. Oddly enough, it ran differently when I opened a command prompt window as administrator and ran setup.exe with the suggested command-line options:
setup.exe -debug -printtime -printmemory -printdiskusage -logLevel finest
While it had previously been failed both by running setup from the Explorer windows as administrator and by running it from the command line as administrator - it died every time at the same point mentioned by others in this thread - just after this message appeared in the log:

( I have tried re installing with no success)

Windows 7 Enterprise 32-Bit
Installed the version 12 for 32 bit ODAC and it worked. The key is to Install as Administrator once it is unzipped.
Was able to set up Listener then
Was able to set up ODBC using the ODAC. Connect MS Access 2010 to the Oracle views.
Then, tried to install the 64 Bit onto Windows 2008 Server.
It locked up during installation both times.
Installed ODAC without an error.
However, the ODBC setup will not provide a list of the servers in the ODBC TNS Service Name listbox for Server 2008.
In Windows 7, it populates the TNS Service Name.
The list box in Windows 2008 is empty.
Do you know what would cause that?
The .ORA file scrips look the same on Windows 2008 as they do on Windows 7 except it does not have the (server = Dedicated) argument.

Hello there,
I'm trying to access my customers Oracle database with a SQL Linked Server. The error I get is:
Cannot create an instance of OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server...
I did the following steps:
1. Installed Oracle client 10g with a custom installation and selected everything.
2. Created a tnsnames.ora

(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = dijkora01)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVICE_NAME = dev)
3. Tested this with tnsping dev, which said that the connection is OK.
4. Activated 'Allow inprocess' for my OraOLEDB.Oracle provider for the linked servers in my SQL Server Management Studio.
5. Created a new linked server with:
Linked Server: IAP
Provider: Oracle Provider for OLE DB
Product name: Oracle
Data source: dev
In the security tab I activated 'Be made using this security context'. When I now press 'OK' I get the above error message.
Can someone help me with this?

Windows 7 Enterprise 32-Bit
Installed the version 12 for 32 bit ODAC and it worked. The key is to Install as Administrator once it is unzipped.
Was able to set up Listener then
Was able to set up ODBC using the ODAC. Connect MS Access 2010 to the Oracle views.
Then, tried to install the 64 Bit onto Windows 2008 Server.
It locked up during installation both times.
Installed ODAC without an error.
However, the ODBC setup will not provide a list of the servers in the ODBC TNS Service Name listbox for Server 2008.
In Windows 7, it populates the TNS Service Name.
The list box in Windows 2008 is empty.
Do you know what would cause that?
The .ORA file scrips look the same on Windows 2008 as they do on Windows 7 except it does not have the (server = Dedicated) argument.

SQL Developer not only reading tnsnames.ora

I have found a very odd behaviour in SQL Developer 1.2 (running on Windows 2000):
I have set TNS_ADMIN to point to a directory on a network drive residing on a Linux host. In this directory there were many backup files of tnsnames.ora created over time whose names followed the pattern tnsnames.ora.<timestamp> or tnsnames.bak or something similar. In SQL Developer in the "New database connection" dialog many TNS-entries showed up multiple times in the "Network alias" listbox. Only after removing all those backup files from the directory the behaviour of SQL Developer was correct and every entry only showed up once. I also found out that even when I moved the backup files to a new directory "tnsnames.bak" under the directory which TNS_ADMIN points to the entries showed up multiple times. After I renamed this directory to bak.tnsnames the behaviour was again correct. In my opinion SQL Developer should only read the file called tnsnames.ora and ignore all other files or directories with similar names.

Maybe others use multiple files, but at least there should be the option to read just this one.

Yes, right-click the Tables node, Apply Filter, select Exclude MVs in the listbox.

How to fill combo box with list of all SQL server

Ok, I know how to find all SQL servers that I need, I have code for that task, and I have Array of all servers.
My problem is ...
I made setup project and do a huge work, and in the end this task appear!
I used ORCA tool to change TextBox (A) template in visual studio (2008 by the way), and I transform first TextBox to ComboBox.
Now, the little part that I'am missing is how to fill this combo box with a result of my function for listin SQL servers?
Can I somehow send combobox object to myMethod:
private void FillCombo(ComboBox cmb)
// do the job
or
instanceOfThisCombo.Items.Add(listOfSQLServers);

Hi Valerij,
The ComboBox control in an MSI dialog uses the ComboBox table to populate the items in it. To get what you want, you need to update the ComboBox table in the MSI package with your application and run the MSI package. The following KB article describes how to dynamically populate a ListBox control in Windows Installer:

This method introduced in the above KB article also applies to populating a ComboBox control in Windows Installer.
I don't think it's possible to run the application as a Custom Action from within the MSI package because the application will modify the content of the MSI package which is currently running. So you need to launch the MSI package from within your application after updating the ComboBox table. In short, when installing, just run your application which updates the ComboBox table and install the MSI package.

Replace Listbox with Textbox

I am facing a problem.Kindly reply me soon if anyone has solution to this problem.I have a form in which previously there was listbox.As the listbox has the "label" and "value" property,such property is not available in textbox.Earlier in my prj the form had listbox So the some value was displayed to user ,but in the backend the value of label was saved.In the Cr which i have got I have to replace the listbox with textbox.Also I have to autopopulate the value in the listbox autopopluated based on primary key value.So if we want to replace it with textbox ,how can we get the solution.I know that the list item can be replaced by 2 textbox ,one for diplaying the value of label and another for the value which would be saved in database.I am able to populate the value of label and the data saved in database.However the problem comes when we query the data to see old record. The data is populated but the value of label is not populated as this record is not saved in database.So without saving the information of label in database.How can we achieve the result as we get in listbox.kinly reply soon.

its a static list item populated at the design time.

created a 'dummy' field as char(15), which is displayed
