Droplet Not Opening Image - CS5

I have created my first droplet, and it unfortunately is not working-  the droplet initates, but the desired image doesn't open, so the related actions never initiate.
Ideally the droplet opena an image, and then performs two actions.  If I manually open an image and manually run the two actions, everything is great.  But when I create the droplet, the image never opens and then the actions fail (presumably because they have no image to operate on).
I have done Internet research, and I tried the solutions I saw that suggested creating the droplet while Photoshop was opened in the "administrator" mode, as well as then changing the (security) permissions of the resulting droplet so that it is running in administrator mode.  I'm attempting this on a computer running Windows 7 and CS5 Photoshop (12.0.4 x64), and I'm the owner and sole user of the system, so folder permissions shouldn't be an issue.
Any thoughts?

Noel,
You bring up an issue that confuses many.  Can you clarify this?
If one drills down to the Photoshop.exe file and right click, choose properties and Compatibility tab,  there is a Privilege Level and a box to check " Run this program as an administrator".
Is this the same as right clicking on the desktop icon and choosing Run As Administrator" but just runs it this way each time it is opened?
Thanks
In Vista and Windows 7 the answer is yes, checking the box is the equivalent of choosing Run As Administrator every time, and a system set to defaults will prompt you for privilege elevation every time.
Beware of applying this advice to Windows 8 in the future, however.  There are now two different places to specify this in the Windows 8 Developer Preview, and only one of them works.  Chances are that will be fixed by the time of release, but I wouldn't bet on it.

I'd have to say that the feature isn't really a feature (in a Windows 7 context) if you have to bare yourself to the world by turning off UAC to make it work...
To be fair, well-behaved applications are supposed to be coded to work within the boundaries of the UAC feature...  That is to say, in normal operation they're not supposed to do things that require privilege to work, except during installation (this is why you get a UAC prompt during the install).
This is not how some legacy applications (or new versions of applications with long development legacies) work, however.  Photoshop has a long history of being a "per-machine" application, not a "per-user" one, and older versions do have some problems working in an a UAC-enabled environment.
However, that said, virtually all of Photoshop CS4 and CS5 DO work properly withtout privilege escalation for most normal operations.  There may, in fact, be workarounds to problems with droplets - I'm not sure.  I'm not personally in a position to investigate it further myself in that I HAVE personally chosen to disable UAC for a variety of reasons (and have taken on the additional responsibility to protect my workstation from malware).

Alternatively, install & use RawTherapee instead to develop your raw files instead (free and open source).

It sounds like your file associations are messed up and Reader is trying to open your .jpg files. Is this correct?
If so, you just need to change the associations to choose what application opens them. Here's how: Change File Associations in Mac OS X

  • .nef Nikon files not opening in CS5

OS X 10.9.2 - New Nikon D7100 .nef files will not open in CS5 - Camera Raw 6.7.1 - I tried to update Camera Raw to 7.1 but to no avail. What else can I do? TIA

That camera requires at least Camera Raw 7.4, which is not compatible with Photoshop CS5. The cheapest option would be for you to use the latest DNG converter to create digital negative copies of your NEF files. Those can be opened with what you have now. Or, you could add Lightroom to your workflow. Or, you could upgrade your Photoshop.

  • LR4 to CS6 not opening image.

Right clicking on image in LR4, then selecting open with CS6.  CS6 program starts fine, but no image?  If I select CS5, it works fine.
Also, I tried a workaround, by exporting the file to my desktop (DNG).  Right clicking on the image, and selecting CS6, again will not open the image?  If I open CS6, then Menu>file>open, all files are greyed out until I select "all documents" in the enable menu?

    Thanks for support.
My posting is based on my experience with my main computer (MAC tower pro) at home.  but I also have a mac book pro that i use for work/travel.  this also has CS5, LR4 and CS6, and when i tested this when I got in the office this mornig, it worked fine - no problems.
i think when I get home this evening, i'll r-install CS6 and see if that works.  for the record, my macbook is running:
    LR4.1RC with CR7.0
    CS5 12.0.4 with CR 6.6.0.261
    CS6 13.0 with CR 7.0.0.308

  • PS, AE, and LR3 will not open in CS5 Master Collection

    Window7, 64-bit, CS5 Master Collection, LightRoom 3…
Have had no trouble since loading CS5 (which was difficult) for the last month or more. Today, PS 64-bit, LR 3, AE and Mocha for AE will not open.  These programs close with a similar error message “i.e., Adobe Photoshop 64-bit has stopped working.  All other programs in CS5 including Photoshop 32-bit will open?
Any suggestions on what to do to correct the problem?  After spending 2 weeks installing CS5 this is heartbreaking - I wish Adobe would pay for my downtime!
    Thanks,
    Randy

This worked for me: turn off User Account Control and then reboot.

    Hi Mylenium,
I ran the Adobe Support Advisor and it came back without identifying any errors.  However, when I closed the advisor this grayed out message come up:
"Creative Suite Product Install Inspector has identified the issue(s) that needs attention. An issue report has been generated.  Adobe will use this issue report to helpaddress the issue(s) in the future."
I just spent 2 hrs with Adobe Tech Service and they could not identify a problem and suggested that I remove all 3 programs and reload.  LR3 almost loads - it is in "Web" trying to open a flash gallery plug in when it fails.  The other programs do not open at all...
I am going to remove and reinstall LR3 first and see what happens.  Then I will (unless someone suggest something else), reinstall Windows 7.  Reinstalling W7 was the only thing that worked for me when I initially installed CS5 for the first time...
    Thanks,
    Randy

  • DPP digital photo professional will not open images in folder

I have a number of subject folders of vintage photographs from my father and his father, pro's and published.  The images were scanned (Canon, of course!) and subsequently adjusted and manipulated for levels, cropping, and gray scale to eliminate yellow paper color, etc.
I have several folders that DPP will NOT open, just placeholders with a big X on it with the full file name.  I cannot see any reason some folders would load without issue, others don't .  There is no probablem with any other graphics program.  Oh, Windows 7.
I really need to be able to have this work right for my business.  DPP is the only program I've found that will make excelletn contact sheets/index sheets that allows full control of the printer so I can custome set and do duplex printing.  Easy Photo Print also makes nice index sheets, but with absolutely no printer control or options.  Bzzzzzt.
    Thanks, Paul

I didn't post it in Printer discussions, I believe I put it in Software.
"Get something else."  Wow!  Want insight!  You mean like Nikon, Sony, or Panasonic?
In fact, I DID already say that I "got something else," Xnview.
It is indeed under the General Printer Discussion on my side of the site!    Check the top of the page.
Get something else meant software not brand. How did you draw that conclusion?
Unless you have me totally confused, it sounds like you want a file management program not a photo editing/ printing program.
DPP is photo editing/printing software designed to be used with Canon cameras and printers.  It will open those file types.  Mybe it will open others I don't use it that way since it is not it's purview.

  • Why is Bridge CS6 not opening images in PS CS6?

Recently, Bridge has stopped opening pictures in Photoshop CS6. Each time I try the screen signals that Photoshop has to close down. However, I can open the pictures in ACR 7.4, but again, those images will not open in Photoshop. If I use the Mini Bridge in Photoshop, everything works fine, It seems there is a problem in the link from Bridge CS6 to Photoshop CS6.Any thoughts?

Hi there, because the forum you originally posted in is for beginners trying to learn the basics of Photoshop, I moved your question to the Photoshop General Discussion forum, where you'll get more specialized help.

  • Open button does not open image in photoshop?

    Am I doing something wrong?
If I edit a CR2 file in Camera Raw 5.1, and the select the open button it does not open the image in Photoshop CS4. Is it not suppose too?
    Any help would be appreciated,
    Thanks in advance
    CoolPix

I saved the old version, just in case I had problems. So I removed the original version, and replaced it with v5.1
I did not try to open the file with Photoshop.
    1. Opened bridge and viewed photos
    2. Right click in bridge, and selected open with ACR
    3. When Camera Raw opened, I edited photo and selected "open"
    4. Photoshop opens, but with NO edited photo.
Now I have made a association in the download folder to open with Photoshop, which opens ACR first, then after editing it now works when I select open it opens in Photoshop.
If you read my last post, my quetion is "why does it not open from my method I used originally in Bridge?
I hope this is clear enough.

  • CS6 not opening in CS5  color books error

When I save a PhotoShop CS6 file, the computer we still have running CS5 will not open the file.  The error message is... "Could not complete your request because the specified color book cannot be found."  What are the work arounds for this?

There was not a PMS color channel but there was an alpha channel.  I deleted the channel and had them open the file in CS5 and it opened fine.

  • Edit photo in LR5 not opening image with LR edits in PSCC

I've been using the edit photo in PS option from LR2 all the way through to LR4 with no issues, and now since upgrading to LR5 and PSCC my images will not open in PSCC with the edits Ive done in LR5.  Its beyond frustrating.
Can anyone suggest any tips?  I have reset warnigs in the preferences, played with the external editing options, but so far nothing has helped.

Under the "Additional Enternal Editor" / Application you are probably pointing to "Adobe Photoshop Elements" instead of "Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor"   See here for more info
