Droplets in CS5

Question

Usually I run some droplets when batch exporting from Lightroom in CS4. However, in CS5, the files open but the droplet actions do not run.  I understand that they're not supported in 64 bit so I tried in 32 bit and they still do not work. Any suggestions how to make them work in CS5? Anyone else running droplets from Lightroom?

The error I received suggested selecting 'open in 32 bit' in 'get info' which I did.  With that selected CS5 just hangs and will not open at all whether trying to run a droplet or just open the program.
The destination="save and close" workaround can't be used for raw files because a "save" won't replace the raw file with the converted jpeg -- you'll get a dialog for each such file.
If you want to put the converted files into a specified folder you can do that by recording a "save as" step in the action to save the jpeg into the desired folder. Just don't change the filename when you record the "save as" step. When you look at the recorded action in the actions panel, you'll see something like:
Save
As JPEG
Quality: 8 (or whatever you set)
Matte: none
In: HD:Users:williams:Results Folder:
That is, if you don't change the filename when recording the save step, no filename will be recorded as part of the save step in the action. Instead, when that action is played back, the current file's name will be used and the file will be placed into the folder recorded in the action. This lets you record all the save parameters except for the filename.
Record a "close" step after the "save" step, and then create the droplet specifying "destination=none".
You still don't get the control over file naming that you would get if "destination=folder" worked fully, but you can save to a separate output folder with the original file's name (and a ".jpg" extension, of course).
This works because setting "destination=none" tells the droplet not to save the file after running the action -- we're just leaving it up to the action itself to save the converted file.
As for the problem of Photoshop hanging when launched in 32 bit mode, that's puzzling -- as you noted, it's not related to droplets. I'd try resetting the preferences -- hold down Cmd+shift+option as Photoshop launches and answer "yes" to the "reset preferences?" dialog.
The "32 bit mode" change isn't necessary if you're running MacOS 10.6.3.
