Dropped 3 yr old world phone & cannot use;

Received message "you are attempting to open a secure connection, but hte server's certificate has expired." Verizon said it was a software issue (I was hoping it was only a battery issue).  Any suggestions that will not wipe out contacts, etc.

1. You're offering bits of info as you go, so I don't know what all is happening in total. But I'm trying.
So, let me drop back and punt on the original question: Yes, a drop could have messed the device up. Could have.
BUT, with a connection to your service provider to send service books and get it back provisioned to the network, it's going to hard to troubleshoot and see if this is a simple provisioning issue, and lack of network issue, or faulty hardware due to physical damage (dropping) issue.
So, you've not resent the service books... and?

It's installed by an AT&T techinican in Feb 2015. Our problem is, every time when we receive a phone or dial out, the U-verse internet drops. Only until the phone is hung up, U-verse will resume within 1-min. Our cordless phone is a GE model with 5.8GHz.     Can connect to carrier in Hyderabad but no voice or data.  No bars on antenna signal.
    Will connect to multiple servic providers but still no antenna bars and no ability for phone call, text message or data over 3G.

    Did you enable international roaming with AT&T before you left the U.S.?

    There is nothing you can do. The iOS for the iPhone 3G is too old to run WhatsApp

    If you did not erase your apps and data before getting rid of your old phone, try using Find My Phone and erasing everything remotely. See if this works.

  • HT4623 My Iphone 5 is experiencing terrible speaker issues - the speakers are busted I do believe.  I had a software update on Saturday May 11 - which said it was for the speaker phone, but to no avail... I still cannot use my speaker phone.

    I am so disgusted with the new Iphone 5 and the speaker quality.  I was using the speaker phone a few days ago, and it started to sound like I had poor signal and poor reception.  I later discovered, it was the speaker itself.  It has apparently burst. 
    I then got a notice of a software update specifically for the speaker phone - on Saturday, May 11, 2013.  I downloaded the update, and it is still terrible.  I cannot use the speaker phone nor use the speakers in any capacity. 
    To have paid this much for such a wonderfully technical piece of equipment - to find it cannot perform the simplest task of delivering quality speaker tones.  It is inaudible. 
    I am not going to purchase another Iphone.  Sadly, I have been an avid IPhone user since they first came out, and have always purchased the newest version.  The Iphone 5 will be my last IPhone. 
    My daughter has the Galaxy 4S, and I am very impressed. 
    Sorry Apple, you have dropped the ball.  A phone this advanced should be able to have the simplest of features work properly... any cell phone has good speaker phone capabilities...except for the Iphone 5.

    If you think android devices never have a hardware problem or failure, you are delusional.
    Be sure to purchase an run antivirus on those android devices since you will need it. Android is the mobile equivalent of Windows in regards to security or severe lack thereof.

    You cannot update iPhone 4 to IOS 8.1.2, the highest you can update is IOS 7.1.2.
    Unless you've iPhone 4S (looks similar to iPhone 4)

    Have managed to cure it based upon the following information received -
    I keep having this problem with iTunes when I try to connect my iPod Touch to iTunes. I keep getting this error message: "This iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed".
    What I did:
    Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes.
    I have already done this required step about a hundred times and I am still getting this same error so if you have any idea of what I can do please help.
    Solution
    I was running the 64-bit version if iTunes, and I did uninstall and re-install just to make sure -- no luck. Turns out there's a really easy solution, I'll spare you the detail of how I figured it out, but if you encounter the same issue, here's the solution:
    1) Using WinRAR (or any other decent archiving program), extract iTunesWindows64Setup.exe
    2) Right click on AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi and choose Properties.
    3) Switch to the Compatibility tab and check the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" box, and select your only option, "Previous versions of Windows", in the drop-down box.
    4) Click OK
    5) Double click the AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi
    6) Tell it to Repair your current installation
    7) Done!

    Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
    As long as the issue is not the result of user damage (like being dropped) it should be covered under warranty.  Only Apple can say for certain whether it is covered or not.

    iPhones can be unlocked in the U.S. as well and in a number of countries - by the carrier the iPhone was sold as carrier locked with, which doesn't require an Apple store and has nothing whatsoever to do with hacking an iPhone.
    Hacking an iPhone is against the iOS license agreement, which you have violated.
    If you think upgrading an iPhone isn't easy, I feel sorry for you. Upgrading an iPhone that hasn't been hacked to be unlocked or for any other reason is easy, but hacking as you have done can and does cause problems - you have severely altered the operating system making the iPhone as insecure as that swiss cheese for security garbage that is Windows and Android just for starters.
    Dropping back in the market to Nokia and Microslop?
