Dropped and now it won't charge... should I buy a new mac?  HELP!

So... a terrible thing happened. While walking by my computer, my foot caught the power cord and pulled my computer off my bed. When it fell to the carpet, it fell directly on the part that the power adaptor plugs into my laptop. Long story short, it bent the metal insert for the charger while still being plugged in. It still charges so I thought I was fine. Eventually I had to play with the plug and push it up or down for it to charge. Now, I have to put the laptop upside down and rest the part that plugs in on something so that there's enough pressure to charge. I figured the bent metal piece meant that I just needed a new power adaptor. So, I just got it in the mail and to my horror, it's not working. It's doing the same thing as the bent adaptor was doing, it will charge for a moment, then disconnect, then connect, then disconnect, etc. I watch this as my battery/charger icon changes over and over. I'm pretty upset and have no idea how much this repair will cost. This is a 2005 powerbook and I was hoping I would keep it a bit longer. Unfortunately, it doesn't look that way.
Is it worth repairing? Anyone have any idea's of the cost of repair before I go there and get it done? Would it be possible for this to be something I can repair myself? Any online tutorials for something like this?
ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

You need to look around for the best price. While there are a number of sites that sell parts, ifixit.com, pbparts.com, and powerbookmedic.com are three you might look at. powerbookmedic says their parts are new, others may be used. Also, there are two DC-in cards for the 1.5Ghz system. The first covers production to Jan 2005 and is common with the 1.33Ghz system, and the second covers from Jan 2005 forward, and is common with the 1.67Ghz system. If you don't know which model you're system is or when it was produced, go to this site and enter the serial number: http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html .
If you're comfortable working in a computer system, there are various sites, like ifixit, that can show you the steps to do it. Working in a notebook is a bit tedious, as so much is packed into so little a space. So if you decide to do it yourself, take it slow. Buy a new number 00 phillips head screw driver (couple of bucks for a phillips 00 and flathead screwdriver at Lowe's), so you don't mess up the screw heads, and have 1 cup or dish per page of instructions, to keep the screws you take out at each step organized, so it goes back together. Pay particular attention to reattaching the flat cables that plug into the boards, as they are easy to 'think' you have in, and not be entirely attached.

You can try drying it out internally by wrapping the unit in a paper towel and putting it in a bag with a dessicant safe for electronics such as silica gel pellets, or failing that in a bag of dry, uncooked rice, for a few days. It's very probable that it's been permanently damaged, but it's possible that if you dry it out, it may then work. If after a few days in the bag it still has problems, then you'll need to pay to get it exchanged (by Apple) or repaired (by a third-party repair service) or buy a new iPhone.
    Good luck.

Apple Does Not recommend that. Please Read.

    From that article
    "Portables with built-in batteries"
Current Apple portable computer batteries are pre-calibrated and do not require the calibration procedure outlined in this article. These computers use batteries that should be replaced only by an Apple Authorized Service Provider.

Apple recommend calibrating the battery when you buy a new Macbook and then every few months, or monthly if it used on mains all the time. This, as Apple says is to keep the battery operating at maximum efficiency. When the battery discharges and shuts the macbook down, it still has reserve power for a good number of hours. There is also a logic board battery to hold various settings.
I rather think I will take Apples advice on using their equipment not yours, but I would be intrigued to discover what is it you know that Apple doesnt about its batteries?

I updated my phone yesterday and now it won't charge.  Is this normal?

Obviously not charging in not normal.
But iOS 7 checks to make sure that the lighting connector is certified by Apple. All Apple Lightning connectors and most Lightning connectors from recognized third parties are certified. But some third parties shortcut the certification process and these cables may not work with your phone.
If you are not using the original Lightning connector or a connector from Apple try that first.

  • Hey i bought a brand new MBP like 6 months ago and now it won't charge

i bought a brand new MBP like 6 months ago and now it won't charge. I tried using a friends MBP charger of the same year as my computer but it still says not charging at the top right corner of the computer screen where the charging symbol is. This problem just happened out of nowhere because it was working the day before then the next day it just stopped working saying it is not charging. I tired doing all of the suggested techniques to fix it but not luck.
This is the battery report is when my MBP is either connected to my charger or my friends charger which works perfectly on her computer.

    Hi sar23,
You may have inadvertently created or edited the document in the new Numbers 3.0 (which is free; you don't have to buy it) and are now trying to open it with the old Numbers 2.3.
Both versions can be on your Mac at the same time, and can run at the same time.  The icons are similar so it's easy to confuse them (old on top here, new on bottom).
The new Numbers 3.0 is in your Applications folder. The old Numbers 2.3 should be in a subfolder in the Applications folder named iWork '09 or similar.
If you accidently edited an old document in the new version and want to take to take it back to the old version, you can export it:

What can you do? Go shopping for a new iPad. Liquids and electronics do not mix. And, you already have a damaged screen. Replacement is your only option. You could take it to an authorized service center but I'm I think their evaluation, given what you told us, would be to replace the iPad.

  • Battery on brand new iPod touch drains when synced to a mac and now it won't charge. If you're thinking of buying a new iPod touch, don't bother. The batteries don't work.

The battery on my son's brand new 64G iPod touch drained while it was synced yo the mac. Now it says 100% charged when it's connected to a charger, but drops to zero as soon as it's disconnected. It would appear that, either the battery is faulty or the battery indicator is faulty. iPod batteries are not supposed to drain while syncing. And rechargeable batteries are supposed to recharge after they have drained. Maybe I'm missing something simple here, does anyone know what it is?

  • My iPod suddenly stopped reacting to my charge and the battery icon doesn't come up but it still charges and now it won't connect to my iTunes on my computer, help?!

I brought an iPod off eBay, second hand a few weeks ago. The first week I had it everything was working fine. Then suddenly when I plugged it in to charge the battery logo didn't appear, so I left it overnight and it still charged but there was still no logo. And now when I plug it in to connect to my iTunes on my computer, it isn't showing up on the left hand side where it should. I have tried restoring the iPod twice and using different cables and no change was made, what should I do?

  • Was reset and now it won't charge?

I have had my Ipad less than one year. I had about 20 pictures, no music, no videos. I had I Books that had 3 books on my shelf, TWCable app and Walgreens App. I tried to record an event I attended and I got a message saying I did not have enough memory .
I took it in to best buy, The Geek Squad person said he did not know what was using so much memory. He checked my usage and it did not add up to what it was indicating I had used. They reset it, so I am starting from scratch. Well I bring it home and it needed to be charged. It was at 5% and that was 6 hours ago. It is now at 47% charged !!! Clearly it is not charging they way it should or should I say the way it was before I took it in.  It should have a full battery 6 hours later. I am charging with the one I rcv'd with my Ipad.
    I am so frustrated !!!!

Plug it into a power source for at least 30 minutes, then try resetting it again:
Press the Sleep/Wake button & Home button at the same time, keep pressing until you(hopefully) see the Apple logo, then release.

  • My battery drained in my iPad 4S and now it won't charge and just cycles through the Apple logo and battery low screens. I can't turn the machine off or on

My battery drained on my iPad 4s and now I can't turn it off or on. It just continues to cycle through the Apple Logo scree for about 10 seconds and than goes blank. Any thoughts would be appreciated

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. • The charge on my iphone 3g has completely gone, and now it won't charge. How can I turn it on?

my charge has gone and now the phone will not charge now. What can I do? please can someone help. Mick from the UK.

    Hi Mick,
    The battery could have died...
Plug it in to the Wall Charger for 20 to 30 Minutes, then unplug it and try this...
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear and then Disappear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
    Release the Buttons...
    Turn the Phone On...
If still no joy, it may need a New Battery, or it could be time to consider a New Phone...
If nothing works, take it to your nearest Apple Store and they will check it for you...
    Cheers,

  • Should I buy a new Mac Pro or an iMac?

    Hi,
I co-run a video production company in the UK. We have an old 2009 iMac, a MacBook Pro from 2010/11 ish, and a PC all used for video editing, and some other intensive apps like Photoshop and Adobe After Effects.
We're about to spend some money on either a fully specced 2013 iMac or a new Mac Pro. The mac Pro we'd be able to afford would be £1500 more than the iMac (which includes purchasing an external display, mouse and keyboard - all of which an iMac obviously already includes so the price comparison is valid).
The Mac Pro would be a 3.7 quad-core processor, 256ssd, 12gig ram - which I would then upgrade to 64gig (somewhere else for financial reasons) and finally Dual AMD GPUs with 3gig of ram each. That's all we can afford unfortunately!
The iMac would be a 3.5 quad core, 1TB fusion drive, and 8gig of ram that I would then max out externally to 32gig, and finally NVidia Geforce 4gig GPU.
Either one we buy we'd get Applecare.
Any suggestions as to which would be better to purchase? Our difficulty comes with the fact that we don't have an awful lot of cash to spare, and we also have other things we'd like to invest in (building improvements etc). The guys who work at the company are naturally leaning towards the Mac Pro, as was I intially, but my job is also to spend our money as wisely as possible, so I'd like some advice on whether the Mac Pro is worth spending that extra £1500 on.
Obviously I understand the Mac Pro will be faster generally speaking, but will it really make a big difference when using Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects and Photoshop? Or is a fully specced iMac going to be just as good?
Also what other advantages, other than just speed, would a Mac Pro bring?
    Cheers in advance,
    Phil

One question to ask yourself is how long you need this machine to do these tasks and what future programs/tasks will you need?
While both machines can handle everything you mentioned now, the MAc Pro will be faster now, and easier to expand in the future.  The iMac will simply not be as cost effective long term.  If however your needs wont change or you don't plan to use the machine more than 3-4 years, the iMac is going to get the job done and of course be much cheaper.
