Dropped Calls/Low/Weak 4G signal

Both my wife and I have the Samsung S5 and in the past two weeks or so, the amount of dropped calls as increased. We live in the 21117 area code and have tried calls is several locations and the call either drops or we have connectivity issues. I have also tried the sim card fix to no avail. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Did you recently get the update or enable Advanced Calling 1.0?  If you are on a VoLTE call with another Verizon customer, and the 4G/LTE signal is weak or changes to 3G - the call will be dropped.  VoLTE is relatively new, not a lot of phones have it, and it has been inconsistent in my experience.
For more info on Advanced Calling 1.0, see Advanced Calling FAQs | Verizon Wireless
Calls won't switch between 3G and 4G LTE networks. If your call starts on the 3G network and you move to a 4G LTE coverage area, your call will continue as a 3G/CDMA call. However, if your call starts on the 4G LTE network and you move to a non-4G coverage area, your call will drop.
If you did not recently update to this, then we can explore further.

    Based on what?
"When Apple rolled out iOS 6.1, its first major update to iOS 6, yesterday, it introduced a series of bug fixes, software tweaks for iTunes and Siri and also added LTE support - but none of that was any use to the disconnected and discontented sufferers of a particular iPhone software flaw: greyed-out Wi-Fi."

I guess there is something wrong with the iphone hardware? Has anyone had similar issues and how they fixed it?

Take the device to Apple or an Apple authorized service center and let them check it out.

  • Orig iPhone call drops & very low signal w/ latest update since 3GS release

For those who have the original iPhone...have any of you been experiencing A LOT of dropped calls and also VERY LOW signal, like 1 & 2 bars? Not just in certain areas either but EVERYWHERE.
After the 3GS release an update of iPhone software was released some time later for the older phones. After I updated my original iPhone to the latest software release through iTunes after the 3GS release my original iPhone now has very poor signal and a lot of dropped calls. I've visited several AT&T stores for resolution. There insufficient answer, perform a network reset. I do this several times a day and it has no positive effect. I still drop calls, some calls don't connect and extremely poor signal.
I also noticed that the internet is working slower, both using the Edge network and the wireless in my own home.
Moreover, I've been researching the internet and finding a lot of other people experiencing the same issues. Mostly becuase the new 3G & 3GS are media hogs eating up the resources & capacity of AT&Ts network capabilities. I've even found that there are 2 class action lawsuits against Apple & AT&T about the poor network operation, tethering limitation and Apple not allowing Google to post an app on iTunes store.
I think the orginal iPhone updated to the latest software release from iTunes that is meant for 3G & 3GS is causing the poor performance to the original iPhone. I know dropped calls & poor signal is AT&T's responsibility but I feel that Apple has an obligation to it's customers to make sure all models, including the original iPhone, are up to par or above average performance when releasing new software, firmware & hardware. I think at this time Apple & AT&T have not completely verified and validated that the original iPhone still performs well with the 3G & 3GS updates.
If Apple or AT&T or both don't remedy my phone network issues to prevent dropped calls and improve the very poor signal then I will be selling the iPhone and switching to a Blackberry with Verizon service. I had Verizon before and ONLY dropped calls in 2 deadspots. I could bet my life I would drop a call driving through that zone, but so does T-Mobile & AT&T. Other than that, Verizon is without a doubt the best cellular service I have had.
Get with the program Apple & AT&T, make your customers happy and fix the network issues so original iPhone users won't leave AT&T to other services. Note, I was thinking of spending $300 and upgrading to the new 3GS but now I'm thinking of spending less and switching to a Blackberry with a more reliable cellular service, Verizon.
So, is Apple & AT&T going to lose another valuable customer?
    P.S.
Yes, I paid $600 for my 8GB original iPhone. Loved it til now. Geez, I'm ashamed to say Apply may have finally made a bad product that does not stand the test of time.
    Best Regards,
    Greg Light

  • Iphone 5s lost LTE, 4g, weak signal. dropped calls after upgrading to IOS 8.1

i recently upgraded my iphone 5s to IOS 8.1 , after the upgrade i lost LTE and 4g, connectivity and stuck to 3g, i observed that my phone's got weker signal than before, i have intermittent signal during calls, and dropped calls. i did go to my service provider but they cant figure it out too, because i'm in an area which has a very good LTE signal and i only got 3g. so i use the apple support chat and i did all the tips and software restoration, i even restore my iphone twice as a new phone but got no good result. i hope apple inc. should issue first a warning on their softaware release updates. i'm so frustrated with my IOS device which i'm so proud.

Hi Restore  Back to Factory  Settings over your WiFi Go to Settings iCloud check last backup. Since ios 7 when you put your iPhone or charge it  Automatically backs up to iCloud After Restore just use same Apple ID  Then you will get your Apps & data back. Cheers Brian

  • Dropped calls on micro cell cell from weak tower signal

They all drop calls when the phone gets even the least amount of signal from a tower. This happens in South Carolina,Florida,New Jersey. So the problem is nation wide. This problem was identified back in 2010. Has there been a fix yet?

The "problem" is not nationwide otherwise myself and a lot others would be experiencing the same thing.
There are lots of reason why call may be dropped and the causes are varied. The MicroCell does not need a local tower (macrocell) to connect to when in range of the MicroCell. The macrocell is only required at the time of Initial Activation and then for periodic location verification during night time network maintenance ( which is only done ocassionally).
Certain phones (specifically the Samsung Galaxy line of phones) have difficulty with the MicroCell due to OS protocols which Samsung is aware of but very slow to respond.
If you are experiencing dropped calls you will need to give us specific details of your setup, ISP, phone, etc to see if we can help. Your issue may or may not be related to what you are calling a nationwide problem.

        AngelMunoz2011,
I am sorry to hear about your troubles with service on your phone. We definitely want to make sure that you are always receiving the best service options. What zip in general are you having the most trouble in? How many bars of signal are you typically getting?  Could you try clearing the cache on your device http://vz.to/KRifEf and also try removing/reinserting your 4g sim card. We are here to help, so please keep us updated.
    Thank you,

  • Note 3 poor reception, no signal, dropped calls. other phones have no problem. have reset it, pulled battery, support has reset towers etc. still having issues.

note 3 poor reception, dropped calls, no signal, 3g not 4g. out of service area message at home this is crazy. other phones have no problem,

Wow! That's quite the large area, Nicki05. The service along Interstate 65 is pretty strong in general. Do you use any type of case on your phone? Has your phone been replaced through your warranty when you gave our Tech Support a call?

  • Excessive dropped calls with full signal!!!

I have a 3GS and have updated to 3.1.2 I recall that one of the items addressed in this update was the dropped calls issue. Mine have been severely worse since the update. It is quite aggravating when the calls dropped are when I have full signal. I am not the only one I know with this particular issue. Is this being addressed?

The phone on the iphone is not the best. I live in Dallas and when the phone is on 3g it really is unusable. Just for grins I started a call log for a day. In my very unscientific experiment I dropped (or couldn't hear the person and had to call back) 76.6% of my calls when I 3g for the day. In my opinion, Apple or no Apple, this is unacceptable for any cell phone. I tried calling ATT to see if I could get some credit and they said no. I have taken the phone to the apple store and they said it was the network not the phone. I have restored the phone, reset the phone, updated the phone, and still nothing seems to work.
However, when the phone is in 2g it seems to work fine. Except the only problem with that is when you are searching the net, or checking email and someone calls you it won't ring. This a mild annoyance because at least when I do call or someone calls me I can talk to them and they can hear me.
The iphone is the worst cell phone on the market and best pocket computer you can buy.
    You decide.

  • Dropped calls, no service, excessive data usage, extremely low battery life

Ever since downloading the new update all my calls are dropped, I have no service anywhere I never get over three circles anywhere and when making a call it will instantly drop to lower service, my phones battery is quickly drained. my phone has been using excessive amounts of data, even while at home on wifi. I have my cellular data off, back app refresh off, and have taken it into the verizon store they worked on it for a half hour and said it should be good but there is no change. While there I had the rep check coverage for my home, because while I had coverage before I no longer do, he confirmed I should have full coverage 4g Lte, and that I was in an amazing area for coverage. Except I"m not getting any coverage. I've also sat on the phone with verizon several times and had them try to fix it, no help. The circles that show coverage/service will change when I"m not even moving around, for whatever reason. My phone also just generally runs slower and will occasionally freeze up when pressing the home button or closing an app.
I'm sure you'll ask for it so my zip is 53704

        aliviadomek,
I'm very sorry to hear about the troubles with your Apple device.  We're here to further assist and make sure we find resolution for you.  Thank you for already answering a lot of questions and taking care of some troubleshooting.  At this point I would recommend a backup and restore.  The iPhone and it's new update may be conflicting with something on your device.  We'd like to perform a restore and test with out any 3rd party applications or media on the phone.
Here are the instructions for the backup and restore; http://bit.ly/1pIvHLR.
    Please share your results. Thanks.

  • Dropped Call. No Service. Call Failed!

Hi, I have for a number of months experienced these problems with o2 on a number of different handsets. I have been sent a new handset and new sims but it does not make a difference.  My question is what has changed? I used to get perfect call quality and great reception at my house, but now it's rubbish and its always rubbish. It is a rare thing now that I can have a full conversation without the call dropping, or unable to hear one side of the conversation.  I got told last month it was due to an upgrade on the aerials and I should switch 3g off... (Not really that great as I want 3g) but even so. They said that would be finished at the start of March and all should be ok again. Well it's not!  I'm a platinum VIP with o2 and have been on Max contract for over 8 years at least, the service has just gone really down hill!  HELP PLEASE!

I feel your pain.... This happens to me constantly, 4 or 5 bar signal - call drops. This happens 5-10 times a day, this morning it has already dropped out 4 times, hence my motivation to rant on O2 forum! I travel all over the country and whilst it is worst at my house, it certainly isn't isolated to one location. I have tried: Different handsets - from iphones to cheap NokiasPlug in signal booster in my officeDisable 3GDisable all dataNew SimStick on signal booster to back of iphone (I was desperate)With a caseWithout a caseNot holding it too tightSmothering my fingers around it!!! The fact remains that calls drop and it seems to have no bearing on my signal level. I also have occasions when I show low levels of signal (2 bars) so try and make a call and hey presto, "searching" appears I really don't know what to try, my company was with Vodafone for a number of years and I did not have this problem, similarly my wife has a T-mobile phone and that's fine too. Really is becoming a massive problem for me and the situation is only getting worse, this has been happening for 2 years now

  • When is apple going to fix the "no service" and dropping calls on iPhone 4s?

My iPhone 4s keeps losing signal dropping calls and displaying no service when is apple goin to fix these issues what ever about a weak battery I think these other issues are far more important

Since you said MY IPHONE the answer is that Apple is never going to fix it unless you call them or take it to a store for diagnosis. MY IPHONE has none of these problems. And it doesn't have a battery problem either.

  • Lenovo P780 - very weak network signal

very low/weak signal. always no network signal even in 3G COVERAGE. SOME area can reach 1 or 2 bar signal, but other phone with same network and same place got 3G and full signal. I had install signal booster, but nothing was changed.  Thanks.

Hi, I have the same problem as well. I bought this phone from Malaysia, from a shopping outlet (Txxxx) and I am sure that it is original set with warranty. I use 2 SIMs, since it is dual SIM, dual standy but 1 pass then I can configure 1 SIM for data plan whereas another is for call and sms. It is cheaper for me. Both of the SIMs are from the same service provider. All of the time, SIM2 will lose connection when the signal is low (rural area, office area), it become "X". Then for sure it is not service provider problem as SIM1 is OK. I guess SIM1 has higher priority than SIM2. What I have to do to enable back SIM2 by turning off SIM1 and SIM2 in Settings then turn on SIM2 then SIM1. But once I turn off SIM1 (plane/flight mode), I can see that SIM2 is back to normal. The signal bar is full. I just guess that both SIMs might be fighting resources when signal is low and SIM2 will always lose out.Hi arj99, you are using1 SIM or dual SIM as I think might want to switch back to use 1 SIM only.It would be nice if there is a solution from Lenovo on as if a phone cant make call then it is kind of stupid as this is the basic requirement of a phone.

  • ATT resolution for Dropped Calls

    Greetings,
If you call ATT, you can get a credit for all your dropped calls.
While it sounds like it is really an Apple issue with their custom chipset, antenna placement, production quality, and/or dare I say software: ATT will refund you for all your dropped calls.
They will try to credit you rollover minutes, tell them you want cash credit towards your bill.
They just gave me 75.00 Cash Credit!
    Go ATT.
    Apple, feel the heat yet???
ATT, Hit 0, then hit 0, then you will be transferred to customer care:
    1-800-331-0500
Hope this helps, now go get your money!
    Rgds,

Hi marcg888. I know how important having reliable phone service at home can be. But indoor service can be tricky with all the things that can cause interference. Anything from electronics to the actual matierial your home is built from can cause signal to be weaker indoors, in addition to the distance from the cell tower having a factor. Since you mentioned reception outside is fine, a great investment to consider is our Network Extender http://bit.ly/AKkC to help essentially bring a mini tower into your home. It's extremely helpful to avoid dropped calls and improve the service inside your home.
    Thank you
