Dropped/Damaged iPod

I dropped my 6GB iPod Classic. Won't work. Won't mount in iTunes. Can it be fixed?

Saw a good tutorial on how to fix a broken ipod (possibly) at How To Fix Ipod Nano Looks like the guy talks about a way to check if hard drive is damaged then if so do a possible fix. I personally have not tried it but Good luck!

  • My daughter dropped her ipod touch 4g into water. We bought a new one 3 days ago which she has dropped. The screen has smashed! Can we use the good screen from the water damaged ipod to replace the broken one

Can anyone help please? My daughter dropped her ipon touch 4g into water which resulted in it being ruined. We bought her a new one three days ago and she has just dropped it and cracked the screen!!!
Cany anybody tell me, are we able to use the perfect screen from the water damaged ipod to replace the broken one on the new ipod or, would the water damage have ruined the screen too?
    Thanks in advance

Your very best option would be to take it to an apple store and exchange it for an alike model which can be a refurbished, or new unit. The repair/exchange price is about 99USD.  http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&viewlocale=en_US&geo=United_St ates&product=ipod&select=REPAIR_PRICING

  • I dropped my ipod 4 into the toilet. I tried turning it on twice, stupidly. Then put it in rice. Is there any hope for my ipod? and if not is there a way to get all 1500 of my photos? Pleaaase help!!!

Hello i dropped my ipod in the toilet (clean water). Once i took it out of the toilet i pressed the home button and within a second it shut off! :( I quickly dried it with a towel and accidently pressed the top button!  D: and put it immediatly into a bag of rice. 3-4 hours passes and i tried to turn it on nothing happened.  I honestly tjougjt it would be dry...stupidly! and now its on the rice and has been in there for an hour since the last time i triwd turnong it on. Is there any hope that my ipod will be okay? and if not could it be repaired? How much is it to repair? One more question what will happen to my photos, is there a way i could atleast get my photos?!? Please please please help!!!!!! please!!!

Hey Posada143, You can still try the rice thing, but do not expect much, as roaminggnome has stated. The rice only works if you do it ASAP and leave the iPod off-- do not attempt use, turn on or charge until it is completely dried out. This is probably academic at this point but remember this for the next time: The drying can take 10 days. You put the uncooked rice and iPod in a sealed bag, change the rice every couple of days. This creates a low humidity environment and draws the moisture out of the iPod, but it takes time. Turn your iPod on to earlier, and you run the risk of shorting out, damaging the components inside. Even if done correctly it can spotty. If you do get the iPod to work (and this may require Resetting, Restoring or attempting to place it in DFU recover mode) the first thing you do is make backups, because you never know how long it will continue to work. As for your pictures, if you can't get your iPod to work, you can try data retrieval companies, however; there is no guaranty it will work and it tends to be very expensive. In the future get in the habit of as making backups, because you just don't know. And invest in and use a water tight case. Hope this helps, Good luck. Cheers.

  • The other day I dropped my iPod touch and the screen cracked and my warranty is up how do i get it fixed. Do I order an screen and have Apple repair it of do I have to

The other day I dropped my ipod touch and the screen cracked and my warranty is up how do I get it fixed. Do I buy a screen and bring it to Apple to repair od do I have to repair it. Please help me

Apple does not repair iPods, but will replace the entire iPod for a flat fee; see the Repair Pricing section here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/faq/
There are independent iPod repair services that may be able to replace the screen for less. Do a web search for "ipod repair". Some places also will sell parts and instructions for doing the repair yourself, but the connectors and parts are delicate and it's easy to cause further damage, so attempt this only if you are confident in your skills.
    Regards.

  • I accedently dropped my iPod touch into a pool.

I accedently dropped my ipod in my pool and now it wont turn on all i want to know is if its still covered by the warranty

The warranty does not cover liquid damage.  Here's an article about it: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3302

  • I dropped my iPod 5 in the snow

Today, I dropped my iPod in the snow and now it's stuck in headphone mode. I can't hear anything unless my headphones are plugged in, did I ruin it?

Maybe, maybe not. Treat as if it has water damage. Turn it off do not charge or use. Place it in a sealed bag of uncooked rice for 7 to 10 days. Change the rice daily. After drying, try turning your iPod on, you may need to charge it for an hour first. If it turns on check that all is working. If the sound still only works with the headphones, try quickly plugging and unplugging the headphone jack  about 12 times. There is a tiny switch in the headphone port, with any luck it's stuck open, this should unstick it. If it is moisture, the rice will dry out the inside and with luck solve your problem. If nothing works after drying, try resetting, or restore from back up or restore to new. If none of the above work contact Apple  Genius Bar to schedule an appointment to have your iPod evaluated. Hope this helps, Good luck.

  • I dropped my iPod touch and the screen cracked. Can I get it repaired?

Today I dropped my iPod.  Then realized the screen cracked.  So. Is there any way to get it repaired or back? my mom didn't pay the insurance and she bought my iPod touch (the new one with both cameras) at best buy. But can apple store
Still fix it if my iPod touch is bought from best buy and no insurance? I'm really upset. I need help. :(

You  can try taking it back to best buy and see what they'll do. The apple store policy is that accidental damage isn't covered by the warranty, and dropping it counts as accidental damage.

  • Henry dropped the Ipod touch and cracked the screen.  How can I get this fixed.

    Hi,
Henry dropped his Ipod touch and cracked the screen and put in a passcode and now has forgotten his passcode.  Need to know how I can get the screen fixed and or if it is covered on the 1 year warranty?  How can I unlock the Ipod without the passcode?
Any info would be greatly helpful!
    Lori Neumann

Take to an Apple retailer. Such damage is not covered by your warranty.
A Complete Guide to Recover Your iDevice if You Forget Your Passcode
If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.
Try restoring the iOS device if backing up and erasing all content and settings doesn't resolve the issue. Using iTunes to restore iOS devices is part of standard isolation troubleshooting. Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition.
Before restoring your iOS device, Apple recommends that you either sync with iTunes to transfer any purchases you have made, or back up new data (data acquired after your last sync). If you have movie rentals on the device, see iTunes Store movie rental usage rights in the United States before restoring.
Follow these steps to restore your device:
Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes before attempting to update.
Connect your device to your computer.
Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes under Devices.
    Select the Summary tab.
    Select the Restore option.
When prompted to back up your settings before restoring, select the Back Up option (see in the image below). If you have just backed up the device, it is not necessary to create another.
Select the Restore option when iTunes prompts you (as long as you've backed up, you should not have to worry about restoring your iOS device).
When the restore process has completed, the device restarts and displays the Apple logo while starting up:
After a restore, the iOS device displays the "Connect to iTunes" screen. For updating to iOS 5 or later, follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. For earlier versions of iOS, keep your device connected until the "Connect to iTunes" screen goes away or you see "iPhone is activated."
The final step is to restore your device from a previous backup.
If you can not restore your device then you will need to go to recovery mode.
Placing your device into recovery mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on. Note: If you see the screen pictured below, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
    Additional Information:
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.

  • I dropped my ipod 5th generation!!! Help me I have the insurance but will it cover it?

I bought it less than 40 days ago and dropped it today making a small crack across the screen :(

The Apple warranty does not cover accidental damage like a broken screen caused by dropping the iPod.
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $99 for 16 GB 5G and $149 for the other 5Gs. They do not fix yours.

i dropped my ipod in the pool and put it in rice for three days and the screen just stays white now. what is the cheapest way to fix thiss?

There are companies that specialize in data retrieval but it's costly (probably cheaper to buy a new iPod) and more than likely as Allan said, your circuits are probably damaged beyond all hope of retrieving anything. It's worth calling Apple you maybe able to get a discount or a refurbished iPod. Can't hurt to ask, Good luck. (And in the future... no texting in the john.) Sorry, couldn't resist it.

  • Okay well i dropped my ipod in water saturday night and i was wondering if apple would be able to give me a replacement on my ipod4g

okay well i dropped my ipod in water on saturday and was wondering if apple would be able to give a replacement?

The Apple warranty does not cover accidental damage.  The ipod has a liquid contact indicator installed in it, so they will know that your device was "dunked".  So, you will have to pay the repair price to have it replaced.  The following link should give you the amount you will need to pay for your model of ipod.

  • Damaged Ipod (Harddrive)

Well my ipods hardrive bit the dust. I think my carelessness got the best of me, I dropped my ipod, from about a 2 1/2' height, at first it started skipping songs, freezing on certain songs, then today in tunes a message popped up saying i had to restore it, i did that and no go. When its plugged it, theres no repsonse from the ipod excpet the face that the do not disconnect error comes up, when i try and turn it on its either the sad ipod face or the folder with the !. Sadly my warranty expired, not long ago, I do not have the money to send it to apple, and my only option really is to buy a hard drive for my 4th gen 20 gig and replace it myself. Im guessing its the harddrive because it clicks every few seconds, continuously, non stop until it turns off. Now if I were to buy a hard drive, this would hopefully fix the ipod correct? And if somebody could direct me to a source where i could find out how to safely open my ipod that would be great. I am not computer and technologically illeterate so please dont tell me to send it in or something, because thats not an option. SO basically what Im asking is the harddrive damaged beyond damaged? and if someone could direct me to an ipod disassembly guide. Thanks alot.
Ps. Im sure there a jillion threads about this, but none really applied to my situation. Thanks.

1.There are very few moving parts that make up the IPOD.
The most sensitive part is the Arm used to seek data while the Platter spins.
Treat the IPOD like a delicate watch,
If you drop your watch it may continue to work but eventually it will break.
It can be damaged just like any computer harddrive, as that’s it basically the same, but much smaller.
    2. You should be able to go into preference setup and adjust the time between songs ; I don’t understand your question about menus???
    3. Being easily damaged is NO. Again treat it like your expensive watch,; get a good solid leather case to keep it in.
    4. Your movies will take up different amounts of space 1 depending on the length of the movie and the compression ratio., at the moment I don’t have the approx ratio in front of me, but the info is easily found.
    5. The IPOD is the same as most computer drives, it just built smaller in a compact space,
at least the IPOD Video model is.
    6. there are many converters on the market tah will covert your movies to IPOD format.
Some will let you use them for free trial, however, I don’t have the link for it at the moment. However this is one link the may help you to start to find what your looking for.
