Dropped frames or out-of-sync audio

Using Sony HDR-FX1 and FCE-HD is set to DV-NTSC. I've also tried DV-NTSC Firewire Basic. I've been trying various suggestions I've found in the Discussions to cure dropped frames that prevent me from capturing and out-of-sync audio making footage I do capture useless. Mac is running 10.4 with 5.5 GB of RAM and dual 2 GHz G5.
I'm capturing to my main hard drive which has plenty of space - when I'm done editing, I archive old footage on an external drive.
"Abort capture on dropped frames" is currently checked. Lately, this means I can't get more than a few seconds without the capture stopping. This never used to happen, now it happens all the time no matter what tapes I'm capturing from.
If I uncheck it, the audio on the captured footage is out of sync. Over time, as I've been trying to trouble shoot this using the Discussions, my projects remain unfinished and deadlines are looming sooner and sooner.
If someonce could please help me I'd be very grateful.

Hi(Bonjour)!
Did you shoot in DV or HDV ?
Did you try to capture HDV with Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60 (or 50 for europe)?
Does you downconvert HDV shooted to DV upon capturing from camcorder ?
DV-NTSC 48 kHz is the way to go with downconverted material.
Does your DV audio setting is 16 bit on FX1 ? (HDV is a fixed one).

  • Dealing with dropped frames and out of sync audio

    Hi!
I'm using Final Cut Studio 3 and I'm trying to record some video from a pretty old MiniDV-camera. The problem is that a have some dropped frames and when I record the whole thing it gets out of sync.
By default Final Cut aborts the capture (without saving) when it finds dropped frames. That won't work for me. I start recording, it records a couple of minutes and then it just aborts without saving anything.
I tried to record the entire tape when using the option of not aborting on dropped frames. I recorded the entire video but not it gets more and more out of sync later and later in the video.
So, do you have any suggestions on how to deal with this? Maybe I can use an external application for this cause I haven't found a way to deal with this in Final cut.
    Best
    Felix

  • Audio/video out of sync (audio delay) with PowerBeats wireless earphones.

I am having a problem with audio/video sync between my  PowerBeats Wireless earphones with my MacPro and MacBookPro. I have tried pairing, playing the video, pausing the video, turning off the PowerBeats, tuning the PowerBeats on, then starting the video playback again. I have the same audio delay so this not working for me. Anyone have an update as to how to fix this audio/video sync problem?

I am playing MPEG-4 movie files. I did open MPlayerX from my dock, then pulled down File to select Open which then did show the folder where these movie files are stored.  Then I was able to select a movie file, open it, and use "Decrease Audio Delay" to closely sync the audio with the video. I say closely because it is not perfect. Rather than stepping each increase or decrease in one tenth of a second, perhaps a finer adjustment would have been in milliseconds. This is the adjustment that I have with my AVR to sync the audio with the video, so I know this is a possible increment adjustment. The perfect adjustment was in between -0.4 and -0.5 second, however, this was not possible in one tenth second adjustments. The closest adjustment was with -0.4 second rather than with -0.5 second. So, adjustments in milliseconds could have been very near a perfect sync. Perhaps later versions of MPlayer will offer the adjustment selection in milliseconds. Nevertheless, this is working much, much better than before. Thank you so much. I have spent most of this day researching this problem and you have come up with by far the best solution. This problem goes all the way back to 2010 and possibly beyond for Apple products. There are hundreds of reports documenting out of sync audio/video issues with no solution that works as well as MPlayerX. Even the Beats support staff have no idea of how to resolve the audio/video out of sync.

  • Out of sync audio markers

Why there are not out of sync audio warnings in final cut x?

Not sure this is the best place to ask questions about why 'features' are not in the application, but to give you a genral answer from the manual about what I assume you are pondering:
By default, Final Cut Pro imports audio and video from the same source into one clip. You can easily detach the audio from a video clip so that you can edit the audio clip separately in the Timeline.
This means that unless you detached the audio yourself, the clip is treated as one source. If you detach it, you are own your own.
If you are wanting to request a feature of some sort for Final Cut Pro X, try this Feedback Form.
    Best of Luck!

  • Out of sync audio six channels

    Dear All,
I have not had a problem with this before, but suddenly I have out-of-sync audio when mixing six channels in FCP. Using my Canon XL1-S, I recorded 4 channels of audio in 12 bit mode, 32 khz. I then added another two channels of audio from a separate Sony digital recorder into the FCP edit. First I set the sequence settings to 32khz and ran everything in 32 bit mode, converting all of the audio through Quicktime pro. The 4 channels from the Canon XL1-s are in perfect sync, but the two channels from the Sony digital are playing at a faster speed and are drifting as the movie progresses...the length is 1:25:00. I then went back and converted everything to 48khz and changed the Sequence settings accordingly, but the Sony audio is still drifting and playing more slowly than the other two channels. What am I doing wrong and how can I bring all of the audio together? Thanks. I'm working with FCP 6.0.6 on a Mac Pro with Snow Leopard 10.6.6. Barbara Smits

What is the format of these Sony files?
. . . the Sony audio is still drifting and playing more slowly than the other two channels.
Unless you are timecode locked between devices, it seems reasonable to me that there will be sync drift if the Sony external recorder is not locked to the video signal.
You might try selecting the Sony audio clips on the timeline and adjusting the speed slightly, such as 101% and see if that gets you closer to sync.
    Hope this helps

  • Out of sync audio for Blu-Ray

    Okay first
Win 7 i7, 12 gigs of Ram, the right video cards....
I have 2 sequences the first is an awards show 2:24 mins all edited with lower thirds and credits. Native 1920 x 1080 29.97 .MOV.  This I output from Premiere using H264 BluRay and down scaled to 720. It work fine in ENCORE CS6.
The 2nd sequence is red carpet and green room interviews 1920x1080 29.97 .MOV files all edited with titles and lower thirds. When I output this the same as the 1st sequence, H264 BluRay and down scaled to 720 and then import the files as a time line into ENCORE CS6 the audio is out of sync. In fact it is about 1 sec faster than the video it starts off in sync and drifts.
If I output this sequence at 1920x 1080 no down scaling to 720 then it is in sync but the whole project is then too large to fit on a single layer Blu-ray  disc this is why I have down scaled 720.
I have re-output it 6 different ways and the only way I get sync is at 1080. It makes no sense to me because the 1st sequence down scaled with no sync problems at all.
I even dropped the edited sequence into a new 720 sequence and scaled to frame size then output that and still the audio is out of sync.
Let me say so there is no misunderstanding the audio is in sync on the premiere time line the problem only occurs when output to ether H264 Blu-ray or MPEG2 Blu-ray if I down scale to 720. If output to 1080 no sync problems.
I don't know what to try now but go to a dual layer disc and I really hate to do that and waste 20 gigs of space.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Dennis

The only two factors which affect file size are bitrate and duration, specs like resolution and frame rate have no bearing.
Try using 1080 with a lower bitrate.

  • Out of sync audio file with video

I have a audio clip that was recorded seperatly from video. I add the audio track which is voice to the video that I have of a person giving speach. I line them up where speach begins and is in sync but say 10 mins into it the clips are out of sync! They should both be in the same time but they are not, how do I fix this?

Once you've determined answers to David's queries,
you will have a better idea of ways to fix
this...i.e. if the audio rates are not aiff and
exactly 48.0Khz/16bit, you could export the audio
into a new file with those parameters and replace
    current audio with this file.
Actually, I tried that last night as well after reading this forum. I sent the good audio (aif) to SoundTrack Pro and resampled the file at 48khz to match the sequence settings. Unforunately, this still did not fix the problem.
I also looked at changing the base timing rate from 29.97fps to 30, but I coudn't see a way to change this. I tried changing it from the Advanced settings from the Sequence Settings Dialog, and I can change to 30, but it then gives an error message that it cannot do that.
The idea of a speed change is one I hadn't thought of, but I am doubtful of the results. I seem to be either stuck with bad audio or arduously cutting up the audio every 5 minutes to get it back in sync at those intervals.... I wish I understood why this is happening. It doens't make sense to me.
I still think it has to do with drop frame/non-drop frame, since I was told the whole point of 29.97fps was t solve an audio sync problem. When the audio isn't coming from a video source recorded or captured at 29.97fps then we are going to have sync problems. The question is, now to get it back into sync with these external audio source files, without a lot of headache.

  • MPEG-2 file has out of sync audio - PLEASE HELP

We captured four mini-DV tapes into Final Cut Pro HD using my Canon mini DV camera and a firewire. After capture we put each tape on its own timeline, added chapter markers, and then compressed each one into MPEG-2 files using the QT codec. Once we had the compressed files we deleted the origional footage and burned DVDs with the MPEG-2s.
After viewing the DVDs we realized that the audio was out of sync on each of them. It seems to get pregressively worse as the tape plays (the beginning is close to being in sync and at the end it's a few seconds off). Each tape is about 59 minutes long.
We really need to fix this and do not have access to the orional/captured footage. Does anyone have any ideas?

You deleted the original footage before you verified anything !
Sorry, this is just <princess bride voice> inconceivable <pbv off>
Use MPEG Streamclip or DVDxDV to extract a DV NTSC file from the VOB files.
Drop that in the time line.
export the audio as an AIFF file
Open the file in Peak or similar application that change the length of the audio file without changing the pitch.
    reimport the file to FCP
Re export the file as a m2v and burn a new disk.
Swear on whatever is holy that you will NEVER delete source footage again if you do not have access to original tapes/media.

ps. Do not double post - we will get to you.

  • Quicktime Export causing Out of Sync Audio?

I'm trying to export a self contained Quicktime movie from my timeline, and every time I try, the audio ends up being out of sync. What am I doing wrong?
The audio is set to just the defaults, 16 bit, 48khz.
    Sequence settings: HDV1080p30
When I bring the final exported movie back into FCP, it plays out of sync.
Exporting through the Share feature to bluRay resulted in perfect sync audio, so I'm at a loss as to why this isn't working.
    Please help!

Allright, since nobody out there seems to have the answer - I'm going to share what I discovered so that the next person will actually get an answer without having to spend hours and hours finding it in other forums. Here goes:
Problem: Audio plays in sync on the timeline, an export from the timeline through Share to bluRay results in correctly synced audio; but a Quicktime Export with current settings results in a final movie where audio is out of sync with the video.
Solutions: I found two solutions to this problem:
1- When exporting to Quicktime Movie, check "recompress all frames". This solution had mixed reviews, with lots of people saying you should never do this, as it will reduce the quality of your final output; while others said the reduction in quality was not noticeable to the naked eye. I guess you can try it and be the judge.
2- In your sequence settings, change the compression setting to Apple Pro Res. This is the setting I decided to go with, as I'm currently awaiting the 10 hour render.
I did do a quick and dirty test on the ProRes option, where it appeared to work. Since the audio is correctly synced in the beginning of the video and then slowly falls out of sync (obviously the 30p to 29.97 problem), I had to run a test using my entire sequence. If you run a test on a 2 minute sequence, it will appear to be correct, because it is a slow falling out of sync issue - the problems occur later in your project (just fyi). Here is what I did (in case you want to try it on your project):
I created a new sequence and then changed the compression setting from HDV1080-30p to Apple Pro Res 422. I dragged my sequences into this sequence (so they were nested). I unlinked the audio and then selected about a 20 second area from about 3/4 of the way through the project. I sliced this section and then removed all the video before and after (so it would speed up render time and only render black, but I would still be able to see if the audio synced up later - I hope that makes sense - this made my export time only 12 minutes). After it exported, I reimported the movie, found the little 20 second area, and it was correctly synced. So, now I am exporting the whole thing. I sincerely hope this works. I don't have lots of 10 hour blocks just lyin' around!
Since my audio issue was most likely due to the fact that I captured and edited in 1080 30p, I believe it must be a bug in FCP that exports the Quicktime movie in 29.97 regardless of whatever your sequence settings are (believe me, I tried to change it to 1080-30p and it didn't work). That is why I think the Apple Pro Res option works, but it involves a total re-render of your project. This is also why I believe it plays fine in the timeline, because my timeline was set to 30p. Again, I also believe that is why my export to BluRay through Share resulted in correctly synced audio - the bluRay export I believe uses the Pro Res codec (which, by the way, took 19 hours).
Wish Apple would fix this bug.

  • Out of Sync Audio after capturing video

I have a video that I captured that the audio is in sync during the capture by using audo preview but, when view it in the view window, the words are out of
    sync from her lips.
The video was recorded on my sony pd150, 48k audio, and Im using prostudio2 on my new quad core.
    Havent had this problem before.
What should I check or do?
    David

Double check that the audio is actually 48khz (Aud Rate) and 16bit (Aud Format). You can check this in item properties or in a browser column.
Captured clips have been known to come in with slightly skewed Aud Rates...like 47.998khz or 48.001khz, etc. If this is the case, just export as aiff 48k/16b and relink with the original video.
Might see what your Main Menu pulldown lists under...Final Cut Pro / System Settings / Playback Control / Frame Offset.
My frame offset is at '4'. This gives me sync while I'm working, but when capturing, you see it as out of sync.

  • .MOV files exporting with out-of-sync audio

I'm trying to export a number of clips from Final Cut Express to .MOV files for upload to YouTube. They all seem to export fine, but some of the clips have the audio go out-of-sync after uploading to YouTube. However, others are fine. I am confused as to what might be the difference and what I might be doing wrong.
I am using QuickTime Conversion to export them at 1280x720 HD, automatic frame rate, and an AAC audio codec. This is what I did for ALL of them, and yet only some go out of sync on YouTube, others upload and play fine. Anyone else have this problem and/or know how to fix it?

Yes i think its something to do ith the fact its a wmv file, when i use mpeg footage it exports fine.
basically, no matter how long the video, the video is out of sync...its weird
i've decided the best thing to do is leave quicktime and export using windows media instead, that seems to give me a better looking picture witha small file size anyway
