Dropped in toilet

I just dropped my iphone 5 in the toilet. Now it won't turn on. What should I do?

Every iPhone has a moisture sensor that turns red when exposed to moisture. The people at the Apple Store can easily tell that your phone doesn't work due to water damage and they won't replace it since water damage voids your warranty. I suggest putting your phone in a bag of rice for at least 24 hours. The rice grains suck in the moisture, taking it out of your phone.

  • Dropped to toilet, here's what i did...

    **** There Apple Family,
well, i dropped my 5C to the toilet, i just took it out of water immediately, when it got out, the screen was flashing and the touch not responding, so, what i did is...
         - took the SIM Card Out.
         - Put it on a rice pot for at least 10 hours
         - took out the phone of the rice, then the first thing i could notice is that the de screen wont turn on, so when i was checking on that, the phone started to ring... so i swipe my finger where the "Slide to Answer" is supposed to be and i answered the call, and was working fine... i finally could turn off the phone.
         - after that i dissasembled the iphone and notice that there was a lot of water inside yet so i took a napkin and dry a little bit the phone.
         - i will leave it under a warm light and hope when i rearm the phone hopefully everything works good.
Did you guys, know another thing can i try??? any ideas?? or any comment???
    P.D.: Sorry for my english...

Well, thanks for you replies guys, i will reassemble my phone and i will take to apple, i know a case that a guy dissasembled his phone, and couldnt reassembled it, so he took it to an authorized apple service center, and they charge him a lot, but repaired the phone...
so i will try the best option... and i will let you guys know... how it goes...

  • Ipod Touch 5th Generation 32 Gb was dropped into toilet 3 days ago, has been sitting and occasionally tried to be turned on. Any way to save it?

3 days agoI dropped it in the toilet and then immediately dried it off. I tried to plug it in to my computer to back it up but no go. For the first ten minutes I tried turning it on and off but it would not work. I decided to let it sit and hoped it would work eventually. Now it does nothing. 2 days ago it would make sounds on the lock screen but wouldn't show anything on the screen and when it was connected to my computer at this time my computer said it was malfunctioned. Is there anyway possible to save it now? Or can I send it to Apple to have it fixed for a fee? If I do will it still have all the memory, data, songs, and apps? Sorry for all the questions any information will be helpful.

Place it in a sealed container with uncooked rice for 5 days or so and change the rice periodically.
    Then as necessary:
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPhone dropped in toilet.... finally powers on... but...

    Hi,
2 weeks ago I dropped my Iphone in the toilet. Yesterday I tried plugging it in, and low and behold it powers up. The only problem is the "Slide to Unlock" slider doesn't work. The "Power Off/On" slider works...so I think the screen is working fine. I did a complete reset and still have the same issue.
Is the phone dead or does anyone have a recommendation.
    It is the original Iphone.

Your warranty has also been voided, especially now that you've posted it on an Apple-run forum.
Even if you hadn't, if you sent your iPhone in for repair, they would be able to tell it was damaged (with the water sensor) and your warranty would still not cover it.
I'd put it in a bag of rice and give it a week or two. I wouldn't try to take it apart though.

  • Blackberry 9300 3G - dropped in toilet

My phone slipped out of my hand into the toilet.  I got it out very fast but... you know water has already gotten it the parts.  I took the battery out and the sim card out dried everything out.  Blew the water out with and put the sim and battery back into the phone.  It started to load blackberry on the screen and hung up.  I took the battery and sim out again and tried it in my old phone and they both worked.  I put it back in the phone any nothing on the screen.  Yesterday I took it to AT&T and they said .... sorry $400 for a new one.. I sat it outside yesterday battery out and sim out in the sun hoping the heat would dry it out.  Put the battery and sim back in..... still nothing.  HELP!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You've probably fried it by continuing to place the battery in and letting it power up.
Most all BlackBerrys will work after getting wet, as long as you are patient and thorough.
    1. Remove the battery immediately!! Do not attempt to turn on your BlackBerry.
    2. Let the device dry in a warm, dry place for 3 to 5 days* (see below)
    3. DO NOT "check it each day" by placing the battery in. Leave it be to dry completely. This takes time. Replacing the battery to check it can only damage it more (moisture + electrical current = disaster).
    3. If the device is warm after the drying period, allow it to cool to room temperature before placing the battery back in.
*Suggestions on drying your BlackBerry in a warm place (open, with the battery out):
Place the BB in a container of dry UNcooked rice, and then you might also place it in any of the locations mentioned below.
On top of any dry heat emitting electronic component: TV cabinet or CRT, LCD, cable TV/Satellite converter box or plasma monitor
On the dashboard of your car on a sunny day

  • Old iPhone - reclamation project?

Hello - I have an old iPhone 8G (the original) which met an untimely fate (dropped in toilet, cracked display!). I've since replaced it with a 3GS. So the old one is SimCardLess. I was wondering if it was possible to use this phone with some apps (eg, Skype/Other remote functions which use wireless capability ala the new ipod).
Is this possible? Wanted to know before I sunk $$ into fixing the display, etc...

Restore the backup of your old phone to your new one.
If your new phone is signed into the iCloud account your old phone was using, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage to see if your old phone is listed under Backups.  If it is, you have an iCloud backup of your old phone you can restore to your new one.  (Note: your new phone will have to be running the same or higher version of iOS as your old one in order to see the backup.  If it isn't, you'll need to update it first.)
To do this, go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content & Settings, then go through the setup screens on your phone and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup and follow the prompts.  Be sure the phone is connected to wifi and your charger as it is restoring the backup.

  • I dropped my iPhone 5S in the toilet and now the screen is not fully responding

So last monday i accidentally dropped my iPhone 5S on the toilet. I immediately dried it off and tried the rice trick. I left it there for 6 days til today it finally turned on. To my surprise, when it turned on i tried entering the lockscreen code but the letter "E" is not working, so i cant put the code in. The whole thing is so frustrating. I thought I'd try to restore the device but when I tried, iTunes told me I had to turn off "Find My iPhone" first, and I obviously can't do that because I can't unlock the device.
As if it couldn't go any worse, I am willing to pay the 260€ that Apple charge for fixing water damaged phones but i live in Tenerife, a small island that belongs to Spain and Apple said that the only way of them fixing it is me taking it to an Apple Store in Spain and I cant really travel and I really need my phone :/ Any solutions? Please?

  • I dropped my ipod 4 into the toilet. I tried turning it on twice, stupidly. Then put it in rice. Is there any hope for my ipod? and if not is there a way to get all 1500 of my photos? Pleaaase help!!!

Hello i dropped my ipod in the toilet (clean water). Once i took it out of the toilet i pressed the home button and within a second it shut off! :( I quickly dried it with a towel and accidently pressed the top button!  D: and put it immediatly into a bag of rice. 3-4 hours passes and i tried to turn it on nothing happened.  I honestly tjougjt it would be dry...stupidly! and now its on the rice and has been in there for an hour since the last time i triwd turnong it on. Is there any hope that my ipod will be okay? and if not could it be repaired? How much is it to repair? One more question what will happen to my photos, is there a way i could atleast get my photos?!? Please please please help!!!!!! please!!!

Hey Posada143, You can still try the rice thing, but do not expect much, as roaminggnome has stated. The rice only works if you do it ASAP and leave the iPod off-- do not attempt use, turn on or charge until it is completely dried out. This is probably academic at this point but remember this for the next time: The drying can take 10 days. You put the uncooked rice and iPod in a sealed bag, change the rice every couple of days. This creates a low humidity environment and draws the moisture out of the iPod, but it takes time. Turn your iPod on to earlier, and you run the risk of shorting out, damaging the components inside. Even if done correctly it can spotty. If you do get the iPod to work (and this may require Resetting, Restoring or attempting to place it in DFU recover mode) the first thing you do is make backups, because you never know how long it will continue to work. As for your pictures, if you can't get your iPod to work, you can try data retrieval companies, however; there is no guaranty it will work and it tends to be very expensive. In the future get in the habit of as making backups, because you just don't know. And invest in and use a water tight case. Hope this helps, Good luck. Cheers.

  • I dropped my iPhone 5 in toilet, it worked again, but a week later is doesn't anymore.

A week ago today, I dropped my iPhone in the toilet. The bottom half was submerged. I took it out immediately and tried to dry it. I had to get to class so I wiped it and put it face down in front of a fan on a paper towel so it could drain. I went to class for an hour and half then got rice from the store. I rushed back and put my phone in it over night. The next day, I plugged it in and it began to charge again. I had some issues the first day with the touch capabilities working sometimes and not other times. After that day, it worked fine again, except the regular camera and flashlight do not work. That didn't really matter to me as I am upgrading in a few months and the front-facing camera still works. The phone turns off near 20% battery, which is not too bad. Now, today, my phone died around 9%, but I didn't notice for awhile that it was dead. I plugged it into my laptop, but the phone charger was starting to rip. I thought that was why it wasn't charging. Then, I used another cord and it still did not charge. My two roommates each tried to get it to charge and both dropped my phone on the floor (Not sure if that has anything to do with the problems I'm having). I let it sit then plugged it back into my laptop. The battery picture with the red line showed up. I let it stay plugged in for about half an hour to come back to a phone with still a black screen. It was very hot so I unplugged it. I let it sit then retried again. The battery picture has not come back and it will not respond to charging from either an outlet or laptop. Not sure what to do or what is causing this. I read online that people used the "hard restart" with the home and lock buttons, but it is not working. I think it may be from dropping it in the toilet and falling on the floor, but I'm not sure. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? Or at least get it to charge?

Please make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service. ASAP.

  • I dropped my iPhone 4s down the toilet and now the touchscreen won't work?

I dropped my iPhone 4s down the toilet because I saw a spider on the seat and jumped, causing me to drop it down the loo. I fished it out and dried it off. The phone was on so I tried to turn it off so it didn't fry the inside of it. I held down the power button and the usual "Slide to power off" slider came up. I tried to swipe it and the phone wouldn't do it. I kept trying to swipe but it wouldn't let me and the screen started to do something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ij7r2dyqBMg
It then stopped and stayed on the homescreen but slowly faded to a plain white screen and wouldn't do anything. I took out my SIM Card and dried it off because I didn't want it getting damaged. Then it turned to a black screen and once again did nothing, so I plugged it into my Macbook and it vibrated, indicating that it was being charged. Also, my iTunes & iPhoto icons started bouncing. The screen was still black so I unplugged it and left it on my bedside drawer to do whatever. About an hour or so later my boyfriend pressed the home button and the screen turned on, but it looked like a cloudy sky. It wouldn't do anything else so again, I left it for about an hour.
I then tried turning the phone on and the Apple logo appeared. The buttons work fine and the home screen with the date & time appeared, but the only thing that wasn't showing up was my screensaver, it is blurred out. I put my SIM Card back in and it says "SIM Faliure" on the screen & at the top where it usually says your network etc. (T-Mobile, 3G and all that) it just says "Invalid SIM" instead. Also, I can't use the touchscreen. I can't swipe up for the options or camera, I can't swipe to turn it off & I can't unlock the phone. I don't have any rice in this house as me & my father are allergic to it so there is no point in buying it.
It's a replacement phone & I've had it for less than three months. What else can I do? Also, there's a strange smell by the power button, but nowhere else on the phone.
    Help? Thanks - Ellie xo

I think that we all know the answer to this one.
Unfortunatley the device is concidered damaged by water. Apple can do an out of warranty repair which would cost $199. Generally they would just replace the device in this case for the $199.
The alternative is to Purchase a new device.
