Dropped iPad 2 and Wifi won't work from 5 feet
Hi, I'm interested in suggested trouble-shooting and ideas to possibly get this iPad back in working condition.
It is a school owned iPad 2 that my Mom recieved for her classroom, so there was no original warranty.
She dropped it (I'm assuming from about 5 feet) on a concrete floor, and obviously cracked the glass screen. The drop also scratched up the top left corner and a small dent in the right. She didn't want to pay the ridiculous apple price to get the screen fixed - so she went to a 3rd party screen repair. The screen is now working, although the bottom left corner screen is slightly raised (I think they just did a bad job - going back to request a re-do)
So we're not sure when it started happening, but the Wi-Fi on the iPad literally will not work unless the iPad 2 is directly next to the router, maybe 2-3 feet away from it.
I'm hoping that there is something cheap and simple I can do to improve the Wi-Fi reception without having to buy a new one.

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router. Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

With Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to 'Lock Rotation' have you then moved the switch on the right-hand side of the iPad above the volume control 'off' ?
Or with the switch set to control 'notification mute' you should be able to unlock rotation via the far left of the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. Flickr is deformatted. This forum is deformatted. Can't see the streaming toolbars at my public radio station. Can't stream news shows that I suually watch.
It all works fine with IE. I had to switch to Explorer to access this forum!I had this problem too after i upgdatd to OS X Mavericks... only the songs on my iphone 5s that i purchased from itunes would play.
i read something about it being a syncing issue. when you plug your phone into your computer with the usb cable, the person said to switch from automatic syncing of itunes to the "manual" option. mine was already set to manual so i wasn't sure anything would work. BUT, when i plugged my phone into my computer, it started to sync all of my music on my phone again (top of itunes bar where song playing/time is listed said "now syncing 123/534 songs to x's iphone"). once that was completed, i checked the music app on my iphone and everything was back to normal!
so, i would suggest setting your music syncing settings to manual if you haven't tried that yet!

If you have a tool, try removing the battery cover and chech out. Some times the camera pin may have been misplaced. If so, you can fix it yourself.

I need a help !!! Please ,I dropped my iPhone 5 in toilet and I didn't get fast maybe 5mins before I get it because I didn't notice drop it and it won't work now it's almost 1week I'm waiting it still it don't work ... Take it to an Apple store and ask. All they can do is say no. They may ask for a purchase receipt to make sure it's not stolen.

My wifi won't work on my mac mini but works on my other devices?
Ok so I'll try to word this as best as possible. Basically, my family recently got a new wifi network. It works perfectly fine on my iphone, ipad, and all of my family member's macs, phones, and ipads. When I used my mad mini for the first time since getting a new network, the wifi won't work on it. it says i have 3 bars when I am connected to the new network, but when i try to use safari, it won't load. i even tried using chrome so the browser is not the issue. what do i do to fix it? i've already tried restarting my computer and all of that stuff.

rbvTell your wife to get her own Apple ID. If you do not want continuity/handoff to work with calls, on both devicesgo to Settings==>>FaceTime==>> Turn OFF iPhone cellular calls.

Yesterday, my battery ran out and i went back home and charged it like normal. Now when the iphone is connected to 3G, safari does not load, or only at random times. Same with wifi. Edge still seems to work, but i can no longer get wifi in my home or 3g at my work and home, which were full bars, and lighting fast before. Now it doesn't load and says the "page could not load, because the netwrok could not be established" or something to that affect.
I turned it off and on, tried airplane mode on and off, reset network settings, restored the iphone, took out the sim and installed the update no deal. Im hoping there is something in the settings that i missed because if not im going to need a new phone. Any help or suggestions besides the ones i mentioned would be appreciated.weird! That is exactly what happened to me too...
Everything was working great, and then around noon yesterday, my battery drained from nearly fully charged to <10% in less than 2 hours. This was my first "problem" with the battery. Normally it lasts all day. I also noticed that the phone felt really warm. I wonder if the phone somehow got "stuck" trying to access the network and drained it's battery?
I turned it off and back on, and afterwards, the WiFi wouldn't work. I went to the apple store, and it worked fine after connecting to the in store network. Now, a day later, it is having trouble with WiFi again
(i.e. WiFi won't work at home, at starbucks, or other hotspots that previously worked).
3G access still works ok.

I updated my iPad to ios 5, and it updated it to ios 5, however- it at the same time- wiped my iPad clean and it won't sync to my computer to get the old apps and music back. Also, none of my iDevices accepted my apple id which I have used for years and I have had to make another one.
If the problem persists after you reboot as suggested by Ralph:
Trouble connecting usually means interference, or another WiFi on the same channel.
If you have any cordless phones, keyboards, or cameras, check what frequency they use.
From a MAC or Windows machine you can see what channel each of the available networks are using. Make sure your network is on a channel nobody else nearby is also using. -

I'm a newbie in this apple forum. I had Ipad 2 since spring of 2011 and it worked great until I updated to os 5.1.1. My wifi reception was horrible after the upgrade, to a point that I could not connect at all to free wifi at public areas such as libraries, starbucks, etc. I tried to hard reset, turn off blue tooth, turn off auto brightness, reset the network setting to no avail. It was not the router (FioS) since my Ipad 3 and other devices were working fine.
I finally brought it to apple store to be checked out. He did see that my wifi was poor, even inside the apple store. It went intermittenly from 2 bars to 1 bar to no connection in minutes while my Ipad 3 was steady at 3 bars for the whole time we were in the store. He thought that maybe something went wrong during the os upgrade and suggested to factory reset and reinstall the os at the store. After the reinstall nothing was changed. The wifi reception was still poor and he did not know what else to do. He was sure that it's not the software and perhaps the problem was due to hardware issue. The problem is Apple can't fix any thing hardware related after the warranty expires. I can't send it for repair and the only thing Apple can do is to take my old one, fix it, sell it as a refurb and allow me to buy a new ipad 2 for $250. Apple might call that process a value chain efficiency, but as a consumer, I call it a ripoff!!!
To top it off, I can't sync my wife's yahoo calendars and remaindes at home. So frustrating.Look at last link.
