Dropped iphone 3gs

so i fell down the stairs and landed on my iphone 3gs, two days ago.
in the top left corner it says SEARCHING... (as in searching for service)
and it is saying connect to itunes to restore. itunes has it under devices as kats iphone and iphone.
i do not exactly know what to do. it also says
IMEI: unknown and
ICCID: unknown
and i slide the slider and it takes me to the emergency call screen only. and behind that is my background of my puppy, so i dont really know if its a hardware problem or if its just stuck. and every five minutes or so it will restart its self and keep going to that connect to itunes screen.
is there anyway i can fix this myself or do i have to get a whole new phone..

I can't get on the phone at all. It just shows the iTunes symbol and is instructing me to plug it into it! Wen I plug it into iTunes it does nothing and wen I reboot the phone the same screen appears. What I'd DFU mode?

I believe after what you've tried, it's time for you to take it in to an Apple Service Center to have them test it, to see what was damaged by the fall.

Dropped iPhone 3Gs in road/rain

HELP!!! I dropped my iphone 3Gs in the road and it was run over by several cars in heavy rain from the looks of it. Got it back in 1 piece, but in road/rain for over an hour. Screen pulverized, but basically still in 1 pc. Shattered so that suction cup won't stick to remove though. Going to ATT store in the morning, but any advice on steps I can take tonight to hopefully be able to salvage contacts, etc. is much appreciated.

All your data should be backed up. If you cannot use the phone and there is no backup, you have nowhere from which to recover your data.

IPhone 3gs frozen - slide to unlock frozen - phone dropped - pad lock without circle

Dropped iPhone 3gs (ios 3.4.4 or previous version - can't remember which one). Slide to unlock is frozen. If I press home button twice then reverse, play and fast forward symbols show up on center of screen (but nothing happens when I press on them). There is a plain pad lock symbol (no circle) on the top center of the screen. Won't do anyting else. Any ideas? Also, the phone will ring...I just can't unlock the phone to answer. Then the screen shows that I missed a call with the phone number displayed.

Why cant i drag and drop from itunes library to iphone 3gs

I have had numerous problems with iphone 3gs so I reset it to factory settings but now I can't drag and drop my music from itunes library to iphone. I have checked the box to manage music manually but still no joy, any suggestions pls?

Place the Device into Recovery mode... All data / Content will be Erased.

Since updating the software on my iPhone 3gs it has developed the so called "white screen of death". The phone has not been dropped or damaged in anyway, the problem only developed after software upgrade. Rung apple and they were less than helpful

Water in itself will not kill electronic components if you let it dry out. Your first reaction to turn it off was a good one but you could have waited even longer.
It also depends what's on your water that will stay after the water itself had dried; like salt. Anything that iseither acid or conductor left on the circuit board will reduce the life of the board. Given said this, no one could state how long your iPhone will work since no one will know for sure where the water had time to infiltrate before you removed your device and no one what's may left there.
Consider yourself lucky. I don't understand however what you mean by a sensor triggered.

Sounds like your phone is in recovery mode. In this case, all data on it is gone. There's nothing to back up.

Took my phone to the Apple store this week and they told me it was a hardware/screen malfunction. They replaced the screen for free since it was under warranty. Now it works fine again!

Tim is correct.
But, first step with 3GS white screen and most iPhone problems is Reset, hold both home and power buttons until iPhone begins to restart itself, usually about 10 seconds of holding both buttons. If still white screen.
Next step would be Restore the iPhone Firmware with iTunes on your computer. If still white screen.
Next step would be to follow Tim's advice, if you had not already.
