Dropped iPhone in the sink, now it won't turn on

Okay this is what happened:
I dropped my iPhone in the sink. I dried it off but the speaker wasn't working (which is normal when you get water inside). So I used a hair dryer on the phone for a couple minutes and the speaker began to work perfectly again. However after a few hours the phone turned off by itself and would not turn back on - charging it was useless and resetting it didn't have any effect. So I began to use the hair dryer method again and it turned back on eventually.
From then on the phone worked perfect except after a few minutes of usage, it would get colourful horizontal lines going along the screen and becoming useless to the point where I have to reboot it. This happened about three times before it would stop turning back on. Charging it does nothing, Itunes does not detect it and resetting it doesn't work either.
I don't know what I should do, help would be grately appreciated. Also if somebody can please tell me what the problem actually is. Is this happening because of the water, because the battery is dead or because the lcd is failing? I really don't know but from the outside there's no scratches or marks on the phone. Thank-you in advance.

I'd suspect this is where you completely fried it.  It sounds possible that had you left it off and let it dry out for a week or more, it just might have survived.  But by repeatedly energizing it with the moisture present inside, you shorted it out completely.  Water + electricity usually equals massive overloads from shorting, which in turn causes destructive overheating of components.  Did you notice any ozone odor coming off it at that point?
It's toast now, sorry to say.

hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up.

  • I cracked my iphone 4s screen and now it won't turn on

So I dropped my iphone 4s and cracked it and then I picked it up and now it won't turn on. I've tried plugging it into my wall, computer, etc. I don't know what to do, so what should I do? also will i be able to access my photos again because my photos aren't backed up or anything?  also i would like to access my notes again? I'm so confused and don'please help!

Sounds to me like your phone is broken as well. Without a backup you've likely lost your data. You could try taking it into an Apple store or contact them and see if they have any way recovering your data. Likely not but worth a try.

  • Dropped iPhone in the sink..

Unfortunately, the sink did have some water in it :/.
My phone is still fully functional; however the speakers buzz a bit. When I bought the phone I purchased an insurance plan from Best Buy and was told that it would cover anything, as long as I didn't lose it or have it get stolen. I can't find any terms and conditions in the paperwork I received, nor do I know the name of the plan (although I'm sure it's one of Best Buy's programs).
My question: Does this plan cover water damage like I was told by the rep (I assume 'everything' includes water)?
Also, if I were to accidentally drop my phone and crack the glass and brought it in, could my request get denied for possible water damage?
AND finally, does the insurance plan guarantee a new phone, or a refurb? The only reason I'm asking is because it's only been a month after release so there can't be many refurbs in existance... right?
    Thanks!
    -Jason

As long as it wasn't fully submersed, you should be alright, and assuming you have the "ADH" coverage option on your Black Tie plan.
But, I'm not entirely sure on the refurb/service aspect, someone else will have to chime in on that.

I'm NOT an employee of Best Buy, or Geek Squad, though I did work as an Agent for a year 5 years ago. None of my posts are to be taken as the official stance that Best Buy will take on your situation. My advice is just that, advice.
Unfortunately, that's the bad luck of any electronic, there's going to be bad Apples... wait that's a horrible pun.

  • My husband dropped his phone in water now it won't turn but when you switch the lock button the side it vibrates and we have been charging it and it's getting warm?? is there any way to retreive the information on without turning it on? Is their a memory

I really need help with this question. Can someone please shed some light on this subject.

Let it dry thoroughly in a very dry environment for a couple of days and then try to charge it for more than 15 minutes.  Then try to power it on again.  I did the same and after two days my phone turned on and although I could not make calls or use data, and the screen was erratic, I was able to connect to iTunes with my Mac and do a backup of both contacts and stuff like photos, settings, etc.   afterwards I was able to restore my new iPhone from the backup and I got almost everything back including notes.

  • Iphone always freezing and now it won't turn on???

    Hi who can help me???
My friends Iphone has been freezing a lot lately and she has taken the sim card out to start it again (the only way). It froze again and now it will not switch on what so ever. She has tried the charger but it doesn't seem to charge (no noise or vibrate to indicate charging). It was at 75% battery when it froze.
How can she fix it and get the iphone to turn back on???
    Thank you

you may have to take it to the apple store to fix but there is another fix:
    #1. connect to iTunes
    #2.clik the iphone and restore
if that doesn't work, take it to tech restore instead of apple store.tech restore is less money than the apple store. Hope this helps!

  • I dropped my iphone 4 on concrete and it won't turn on

About an hour ago, i dropped my iPhone on the cement and it won't turn on. I tried restarting it, but that didn't work. Right now it is on the charger. What do I do?

Take it to Apple and get an out of warranty replacement. Be prepared to pay for it.

  • I dropped my iphone (not from a great height) and now it won't turn on however when I plug it in the white apple shows on my screen. My lock button has been broken for awhile so I can't even try switch it on!

Once you have a proven, working Charger... Charge the Device for a couple of hours. Then try to turn it on.
    If no joy...
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
    Release the Buttons...
    If the issue persists...
Then a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is the Next Step...

  • I dropped my iPhone 4 in water and now it won't turn on at all, will i lose all of my data, for example my photos and messages etc? and is there any way you can back the phone up without having it switched on?

If you had previously been backing up to iCloud (or a computer with iTunes), you would possibly have a backup.  That said, if you can't turn the phone on, you cannot create a backup of the device now.  Sorry.

  • Dropped iPhone 5c and now it won't turn on

My cousin dropped his iPhone 5c and now it won't turn on. It doesn't charge or make any noise. What should I do?

    Try to reset the phone
Hold the sleep and home buttons until the apple logo appears and allow normal boot up - there is no data loss
If this does not work - then chances are that there is hardware damage that cannot be fixed through the user troubleshooting methods and bring it to an Apple or authorized repair store

  • Dropped iPhone and now it won't turn on??? :(

Dropped my iPhone 3GS and now it won't turn on. I didn't even drop it that far or anything but now for some reason it won't turn on. I've already tried resetting it several times and it hasn't worked. I plugged it in to charge it and nothing happened and when i plug it in the computer with the dock, nothing happens and it won't even show up under devices in iTunes.
    Please help.

I believe the correct technical term is... "you broke it".
Take it in for service. An out of warranty replacement from Apple is US$149.

  • I dropped my iPhone 4S, and now it won't turn on...

I just got it, and I dropped it, and now it won't turn on. I usually always have cases on my phones, but I'm waiting for it to come in the mail. And just my luck, I dropped it.
I tried plugging it in to my computer, and it just makes the sync noise repeatedly. But won't turn on. Is this fixable? I really can't afford to buy a new one at $600. this close to Christmas. Please help me!

Hmm. That helps. But I just got it through my service provider, so its only a week old. Lets hope its less then the $200!
    Thanks!

If wjosten's tip doesn't work try plugging it into a USB charger (not through your computer), wait about 30 seconds and it should come on. If it doesn't remove the cord from the phone and keep trying this. I've had this same issue and found a combination of the reset & charging cable tends to work. Sometimes it takes about 5 minutes for the phone to respond.
    Best of luck.
