Dropped my iPhone in toilet

It's been a week since I dropped my iPhone in toilet. I dried it and even tried putting in bowl of rice.  It works fine but external sounds only work intermittently.  Is a replacement in order?

wow that was really helpful.  If I knew I wouldn't have spent 10 minutes to set up an account to ask the question. Maybe someone has had the same experience and found another way.

  • Dropped my iPhone in toilet and pretty slow now!

Dropped my iPhone in the toilet! I did all the tricks to fix it such as switching it off, drying with a towel and putting in a sealed bag of rice for 48 hours. Everything seems fine, but it's a bit slower than before. Is there anything else that I can do?

Ideally, you would have left it in rice for at least a week before you'd tried using it.
You can try restoring it through iTunes to see if that changes anything, but odds are it has some hardware damage and will eventually give up on you and will need to be replaced.

  • I dropped my iphone in toilet...screen is black but sound is working

I dropped my iphone in the toilet a week ago and immediately put it into rice. The screen went black as soon as I dried it off but, it kept vibrating until it ran out of battery. I left in rice until this morning when I put it on charge, it turned on but the screen is still black, I called it and the sound works. Any suggestions?

You can leave in in the dry rice for more weeks, however, once water gets in it is very difficult to remove and corrosion starts and continues.
Realistically, there is little chance that your iPhone will recover to a reliable state.

  • I dropped my iPhone 5S in the toilet and now the screen is not fully responding

So last monday i accidentally dropped my iPhone 5S on the toilet. I immediately dried it off and tried the rice trick. I left it there for 6 days til today it finally turned on. To my surprise, when it turned on i tried entering the lockscreen code but the letter "E" is not working, so i cant put the code in. The whole thing is so frustrating. I thought I'd try to restore the device but when I tried, iTunes told me I had to turn off "Find My iPhone" first, and I obviously can't do that because I can't unlock the device.
As if it couldn't go any worse, I am willing to pay the 260€ that Apple charge for fixing water damaged phones but i live in Tenerife, a small island that belongs to Spain and Apple said that the only way of them fixing it is me taking it to an Apple Store in Spain and I cant really travel and I really need my phone :/ Any solutions? Please?

  • I dropped my iPhone 5 in toilet, it worked again, but a week later is doesn't anymore.

A week ago today, I dropped my iPhone in the toilet. The bottom half was submerged. I took it out immediately and tried to dry it. I had to get to class so I wiped it and put it face down in front of a fan on a paper towel so it could drain. I went to class for an hour and half then got rice from the store. I rushed back and put my phone in it over night. The next day, I plugged it in and it began to charge again. I had some issues the first day with the touch capabilities working sometimes and not other times. After that day, it worked fine again, except the regular camera and flashlight do not work. That didn't really matter to me as I am upgrading in a few months and the front-facing camera still works. The phone turns off near 20% battery, which is not too bad. Now, today, my phone died around 9%, but I didn't notice for awhile that it was dead. I plugged it into my laptop, but the phone charger was starting to rip. I thought that was why it wasn't charging. Then, I used another cord and it still did not charge. My two roommates each tried to get it to charge and both dropped my phone on the floor (Not sure if that has anything to do with the problems I'm having). I let it sit then plugged it back into my laptop. The battery picture with the red line showed up. I let it stay plugged in for about half an hour to come back to a phone with still a black screen. It was very hot so I unplugged it. I let it sit then retried again. The battery picture has not come back and it will not respond to charging from either an outlet or laptop. Not sure what to do or what is causing this. I read online that people used the "hard restart" with the home and lock buttons, but it is not working. I think it may be from dropping it in the toilet and falling on the floor, but I'm not sure. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? Or at least get it to charge?

  • I dropped my iPhone 4s down the toilet and now the touchscreen won't work?

I dropped my iPhone 4s down the toilet because I saw a spider on the seat and jumped, causing me to drop it down the loo. I fished it out and dried it off. The phone was on so I tried to turn it off so it didn't fry the inside of it. I held down the power button and the usual "Slide to power off" slider came up. I tried to swipe it and the phone wouldn't do it. I kept trying to swipe but it wouldn't let me and the screen started to do something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ij7r2dyqBMg
It then stopped and stayed on the homescreen but slowly faded to a plain white screen and wouldn't do anything. I took out my SIM Card and dried it off because I didn't want it getting damaged. Then it turned to a black screen and once again did nothing, so I plugged it into my Macbook and it vibrated, indicating that it was being charged. Also, my iTunes & iPhoto icons started bouncing. The screen was still black so I unplugged it and left it on my bedside drawer to do whatever. About an hour or so later my boyfriend pressed the home button and the screen turned on, but it looked like a cloudy sky. It wouldn't do anything else so again, I left it for about an hour.
I then tried turning the phone on and the Apple logo appeared. The buttons work fine and the home screen with the date & time appeared, but the only thing that wasn't showing up was my screensaver, it is blurred out. I put my SIM Card back in and it says "SIM Faliure" on the screen & at the top where it usually says your network etc. (T-Mobile, 3G and all that) it just says "Invalid SIM" instead. Also, I can't use the touchscreen. I can't swipe up for the options or camera, I can't swipe to turn it off & I can't unlock the phone. I don't have any rice in this house as me & my father are allergic to it so there is no point in buying it.
It's a replacement phone & I've had it for less than three months. What else can I do? Also, there's a strange smell by the power button, but nowhere else on the phone.
    Help? Thanks - Ellie xo

I think that we all know the answer to this one.
Unfortunatley the device is concidered damaged by water. Apple can do an out of warranty repair which would cost $199. Generally they would just replace the device in this case for the $199.
The alternative is to Purchase a new device.

  • I dropped my iPhone 4S in the toilet. Now it won't shut off and the camera light stays on. What should I do?

I dropped my iPhone 4S in the toilet. I dried it and shook out as much water as I could. I removed the SD card and put everything in a bowl of rice. It is still in there and everything appears to be working normally, but it won't shut off and the camera light stays on. I've tried the restart thing where you press and hold the pwr button and the home button. What should I do?

  • I dropped my iPhone 5s in the toilet last night, what do I do?

I dropped my iphone 5s in the toilet last night! I quickly grabbed it out. It had an otterbox defender on it, I dried it took it out of the case, dried it again and blew in the headphone jack, speakers, and charging port. I then immediatly put it in a ziplock bag of rice and left it overnight. This morning I took it out turned it on and it was fully functional (finger unlock, touchscreen), I didnt check the speakers though. The screen on the top left has a streak (about an inch long) that looks like water damage.  I turned my phone back off and put it back in the bag of rice and Im planning on checking it again later tonight. Is my phone ruined or can I make it go away? Also, will my phone be okay in the long run?

There's no way to know how much damage was done.  It didn't help that you took it out of the rice and turned it on... that may have permanently damaged it.  Leave it off, in the rice for several more days... you might get lucky.

  • I dropped my iphone 5s in the toilet. Turned on after a day in rice, then shut off.

Ok, this is basically what happened.
I dropped my Iphone 5s a couple days ago into the toilet for 4-5 seconds. I then took the phone out, put it in a towel, cleaned up the water that was there, and then like an idiot after 10 minutes, tried to turn it on. It wouldn't turn on, obviously. I know this is bad. Anyway.
I decide to put it in rice. For 2-3 days. It would not turn on. I thought, it's a goner.
Today, my gf got back from vacation and tried helping me with it. We decided to put it in the charger, and bam, the battery logo turned on!! It was dead, and after charging, the phone went on like normal. I was psyched. We went to the Sprint store and changed my number back to my iphone.
6 hours later it's dead again. Won't turn on. Tried to charge just in case - won't turn on.
Should I just give up? I put it in rice again and see what happens over night, but I'm trying my best to not pay the 250$ repair price.

Water and electronic don't play well together.
I think it's toast, make an appointment for an Out of Warranty replacement for a fee.

  • Dropped my iphone 4s in toilet for just a second any suggestions?

Hi, I dropped my iphone 4s in toilet, only for a sceond. It has no screen now, any suggestions? I retrieved all photos, but don't know how or if I can get apps and contacts   If you have any ideas?

Water and electronics don't mix well. Most likely will need a new phone. Make an appt. at an Apple store for an out of warranty replacement. http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/

  • I dropped my iPhone in the toilet?

So, I was in my bathroom just about to get in the shower while listening to music, being the clumsy person I am, I ended up dropping my iPhone in the toilet. I quickly gathered the iPhone, and placed it in rice. I waited 3 days, and if I plug it into my laptop, it turns on for about 10 seconds (only logo appears) then it shuts off. I was wondering if I visited the Apple Store, would they replace this? I have an iPhone 4.
    Btw, I don't have a warranty.

It was $99 with a contract heavily subsidised by the carrier.
Retail price for a new one without the carrier subsidy is $450.

If water drained out of your phone when you pulled it out of the toilet it is most likelyh dead.  Stop trying to turn it on or plugging it in.  You really need to put it in a bag of rice for 3-4 days and just leave it alone.  It will take that long to get it totally dry to see if it is going to come back to life.
Good luck, but since you tried to turn it on, and plugged it in while it was probably still wet inside I would not count on it surviving.
