I dropped my phone down the toilet and before I switched it off I sent a text. I have left it to dry out for the last 48hiurs. Is there any hope for my iPhone 5c?

Probably not. First of all, 48 hours is not enough. 5-7 days is better. Secondly, if you did not turn it off the very instant you retrieved it, it probably did worse damage. Even if it powers on, it's very unlikely it will function 100%.

  • I dropped my phone down the toilet 2 days ago, is there any way of saving it?

I dropped my phone down the toilet and immediately took it out, dried it off and put it in rice overnight. I did try to turn it on (i know i shouldn't have) and it did however the screen was very flickery and could tell there was still water in it so I left it in the rice and haven't taken it out since. I've tried to turn it on as I believe all the water is gone but it won't turn on. I've tried putting it on charge and nothing. It's still in the rice, is there any way at all it will turn on or is it completely dead?
Also, there is no home button, I've been using assistive touch.

There's an almost 100% chance you ruined your iPhone. Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

After taking a dip in my vest pocket in the washing machine for about 10 minutes, my nearly new 5S spent 5 days in rice and silica gel packets.   It definitely dried out, but there is damage to either the battery or the circuit board because it turns on, and I continuously get a blue screen and it reboots every five minutes for a half hour, and then miraculously, it stays on and works perfectly.  But I wound up having to fork over $700 for a new 6+. because I couldn't stand the rebooting any longer.   I had no insurance, but I do now, Apple insurance, not carrier ins.

  • HT4061 Hi, I dropped my phone down the toilet this morning. I took out my SIM so it would do. I put my phone into a bag of rice for about three hours. I tried rebooting it. My phone still isn't turning on-what shall I do?

    This is URGENT-please reply.
I dropped my phone down the toilet this morning. I took the SIM out straight away so it would not get damaged. I put my phone in a bag of rice for almost four hours. I tried to reboot my phone back to it's factory settings like it said on the internet but my phone doesn't connect to Itunes at all. My phone won't turn on. What shall I do?

It would need to be rice for around 7 days ,however trying to turn on has probably fried it so try around 7 days and then when it still doesn't work either exchange for a refurbished iPhone 4 or use the money to get a new one.An iPhone 4 is $149 in US
ps the sim is not likely to be damaged water conducts electricity across all the wrong circuits frying the iPhone

  • Dropped my phone in toilet, now the charger won't fit in the charger port...

I dropped my phone in the toilet yesterday, turned it off and put it in a bag of rice.
Today I turn it on, and there are multiple vertical lines on it and i can still use it, however I can't charger it because the charger port seems to have expanded so the hole is too small now for the charger part that plugs in..... Has anyone experienced this? I want to back up my phone before it dies and before I go get a new one.... Or can the phone store back up my phone another way?

Did you have to buy a whole new one or were you able to get an out-of-warranty replacement from Apple as Allan suggested?  In other words, did you have to pay full price or did you pay just the lower out-of-warranty fee?
If you bought a new one, did you get the AppleCare+?  If you're within the first 60 days, you can still get it by going to an Apple Store or calling Apple at 1-800-MYAPPLE.  With AppleCare+, the fee to replace a damaged device is usually only $79, compared to as much as $329 for an iPhone 6 Plus.

  • I dropped my phone down the toilet and it is now not switching on anyone know the charges if I took it to apple?

i have had my iPhone 5s in a bag of rice and this still has made any difference to my phone after dropping down the toilet how much would I get charged to get a new one or repaired

Apple will not attempt to repair that iPhone, but they will do an out-of-warranty replacement for $269 in the US

  • Dropped my phone down the toilet and everything works fine still apart from the WIFI is not there.

I recently dropped my White Iphone 4s down a toilet on a night out!!!
I quickly picked it up and took it home and dryed in off and placed it in a bowl of rice and a few days later everything was fine and working just like normal apart from some water under the screen.
Also the Wi-Fi option on my iphone just isn't displayed and greyed out.
I have also recently updated the software on the phone to the new 5.1.1 which i have seen there has been problems with about the wi-fi dropping and not being displayed.
I would just like some advice if anyone else has had this problem and if which i think it probably is, the hardware has become loose inside the phone and its not the software.

The WiFi radio is dead. You cooked it. Make an appointment at the genius bar and take your credit card. If you did not purchase AppleCare+ with the phone, a replacement will cost you US$199.

  • I dropped my iPhone down the toilet! 4s

I dropped my phone down the toilet after a night out!
In the morning after, I found my phone on the floor where it had been drying out over night.
Since this it has been in a bag of rice for 32 hours but still no sign of life.
The top one button had already broken so to switch the phone on it needed to be put on charge or plugged into the computer but both these things haven't sprung the phone into life!
I have heard a red mark should be seen in the charger point to state water damage but I can't see this.
Does this mean there is hope for it to start working again?
And is there anyway to get my information, picture, ect of the phone if it is completely broken?

Your data from the device may have been automatically backed up to icloud. If after 72 hours in the rice the device still does not respond - I'm hoping you have backed up your data to icloud.
    Good luck.

  • Recently dropped i phone 4 down the toilet, screen now has vertical lines on when i fire up??

I recently accidently dropped my iphone down the toilet, within seconds i retrieved but it shut down, i put in a tub with riceand left for at least 24 hrs, although i turned on and still seemed to have some moisture as the camera lens showed water in it, the screen then came on with a thick white line down the centre, I am assuming this is the white apple sign which comes on when started up, then this cahnged to just a full screen of vertical black lines (like a barcode).  I had a passlock on the phone which i managed to unlock as it appears that everything is working behind the screen, just hoping its just an LCD problem and maybe a new screen but dont want to wast my money if not going to work??? I have upgraded and now have an Iphone 5s. I am gutted as there wasnt a mark on the iphone4 and would love to be able to have it fully functional again, any help would be appreciated...

Replacing the LCD alone won't cut it. The internal electronic components got wet and you powered the iPhone back on while the internal components were still wet. 24 hours wasn't near enough time.

  • Phone down the toilet!!!

I have an Iphone 4 and I have dropped it down the toilet by accident. I just paniked and then took my phone out of the toilet sink in abit 1 or 2 minutes after it had dropped in. I dryed it with the hairdryer thinking that it will dry it and turn on but it hasnt. I looked on the apple community website and read other articles, they put to put in rice. I have done and gone back to it 3 hours after putting my phone in the rice. I have no insurance! What do I need to do and What will apple do? Will apple give me a new battery?

"What do I need to do?"
Leave it in the rice for as long as you can. Try at least 2-3 days or even a week. Three hours is nowhere long enough.
"What will apple do?" "Will Apple give me a new battery?"
Apple won't do or give you anything. If you want Apple to do something in the way of replacement then take it to your nearest Apple Store where they will replace the whole phone for a fee. In the US this could be as much as $269.
There's no guarantee leaving your phone in rice for a day, a week or even a year will 'fix' you dropping the phone in the toilet. You must realise that electronics and water don't really mix in a happy way and if the phone starts working again it's by luck rather than anything else. If given enough time the phone may dry out enough for it to be partly usable but not quite like before or (if you're really really really lucky) start working exactly as it did before.

  • I've never dropped my phone for the 7 months that I've had it but last night I was at a park and when I sat down at a table, my phone as in my pocket and I heard a pop. I took my phone out and the entire screen was cracked. what should I do?

Probably not, since user-caused damage isn't covered by the warranty. But you can take the iPhone to an Apple Store and see if there's anything they can do for you. A phone company store will not service your iPhone at all, to the best of my knowledge.
    Regards.

  • Dropped phone in toilet and it works?

So i dropped my phone in the toilet last weekend and let it sit in rice for a week. When i took it out, it wouldn't charge enough to start up all day, but then suddenly started charging and worked completely fine all day. When i went to charge it tonight, it did the same thing where it wouldn't charge enough to power up even though it had 45% charge when i plugged it in. Any suggestions about what's wrong with it?

The device is more than likely damaged internally (corrosion). Once a device is exposed to liquid it isnt certain thats its going to work even though you let it set for a week in rice. if your device doesnt have AppleCare + its going to be $149 for an out of warranty replacement due to accidential damage not being covered under the 1 year warranty. Sorry to hear that!

  • HT4061 I dropped my phone in the toilet and now is not working.   What should I do?

I dropped my phone in the toilet and now is not working.   What should I do?

Put in in a bag of dry rice for a few days and see if that drys it out. Don't be surprised if it doesn't. You may need to take it to an Apple Store. They will offer you a replacement at a reduced price
    Hope that helps
