Dropped phone in water. Seems to be working. Should I do anything?

In addition to what gdgmacguy said, be sure to regularly back up and sync
so when the coming failure does happen, you will have your data saved
and can put it onto your new iPhone.

I dropped my phone in water for 2 seconds and it still works but should i keep it in rice just in case or can i continue using it

    Water and electronics don't mix.
Usually when there is water damage, you power off the phone and let it sit in a bag of uncooked rice fro at least 4 to 5 days.
The water damage is what is wrong with your phone.
You can get an out of warranty iphone at the Apple store.

  • Dropped phone in water.  Worked.  Then needs to be restored?  Restored but same message comes up?

Dropped phone in water.  Worked.  Hour later said it needs to be restored?  Restored but same message comes up?  Keeps saying "searching."  Help?

Your iPhone is most likely fried - out of warranty replacement on iPhone 4
    is $149 US.
Try putting your iPhone in a bag of uncooked rice for 5 days to draw out
the moisture. It may work temporarily, but long term you are looking at
replacing the iPhone or upgrading to a newer model.

  • Dropped phone and now doesnt recognise sim, what should i do??

Dropped phone and now doesnt recognise sim, what should i do??
Hi,  i borrowed my friend's phone(sony ericsson t707) and dropped it and now  it doesnt recognise the sim and just says that there is no network  coverage...what shall i do?! I dont want to tell them that i have broken  it..

Sounds like physical damage, so you need to take it to a repair centre.

  • Dropped phone in water, trying to dry it out, what is the best way?

Dropped phone in bath water, what is the best way to drt it out and maybe save it?

Agreed.  Mine went through the washer and appeared dead.  These steps saved it but you must be patient and let it stay in the rice for the week.  Very hard to do!  Mine was fine functionally after that though the screen was blotched.  The screen blotching cleared up after a week and then good as new!
    Good luck!

  • Dropped phone in water phone was working put it in rice for 2 days screen was black but i could still call people and hear them whats wrong with it

I dropped my iPhone 4 in water put it in rice and turned it off for 2 says then when i turned it on it was black but i could use voice control to call people and hear them perfectly and they could hear me but i couldn't see anything on my screen. Whats wrong with it?

If you can backup your phone before using the below option then I would back it up and use the out of warranty option:
    Out-of-warranty* cost:
    iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5: $269
    iPhone 4s: $199
    iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, Original iPhone: $149
Plus a $6.95 shipping fee. Fees are in USD and exclude local tax.
*Accidental damage isn’t covered under the Apple One Year Limited Warranty.
If you have important data that is still on the phone and you do not have a backup, and unable to do a backup, then try what I described earlier because the geniuses at the bar WILL NOT recover your data. Seeing that my technique worked for me, I will stand by my earlier response (the one that was removed).
Also, I would use silica/desiccant packs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ly-o7sAsFtI over rice any day.

  • Hi - can someone help me. I dropped my phone in water, it doesn't work- I want to just get an iphone uprgrade.

    is someone available for chat

Also, some questions that you will need to answer.
Are you currently under contract? - If so, then you will likely not be able to get a phone at a subsidized price.  You will need to either pay full retail for the phone you want, or look into the Certified Pre-Owned program, or purchase a device from a third party such as Craiglist or eBay.
Did you have insurance on the phone that was dropped in water? - If so, then insurance claims go through Asurion and you will only get the same type of phone that you currently have.
If you are not under contract, then you can simply purchase a new phone (at a subsidized price if you choose).  You can use any number of several different avenues.  Call Verizon Customer Service.  Log in to your My Verizon account online.  Go to a Verizon corporate store.  Purchase from a third  party.

  • Dropped phone in water

    Help,
I was doing dishes and accidentally dropped my iPhone G4 in the water.  I retrieved it as soon as I could and dried if off.  I took out the sim card and it was dry, but I dried it anyway and I blew into everything to hopefully save it.  It actaully worked for about an hour, now all it does is flash the Apple icon at me.  I tried to restore it, but it tells me a "error occurred" and it couldn't finish the restore.  Do I need a new one, or can this be resolved?

At this point, you probably need a new phone. The worst thing to do after it got wet was to try to use it. The best thing to do in that situation is to turn it off and put it in a zip lock bag with dry rice for a week.

  • HT1349 dropped phone in water. How do i open phone to dry out

How do I dry out my iphone?

Put it in a sealed container with dry rice for at least 5 days. Do not touch it during that time. If you search the forum for phones dropped in water, you will find many threads that discuss this treatment.

  • I inadvertenty dropped phone in water, but retrieved in a matter of seconds.

Phone is now unable to be turned on.  Have tried using both on/off & home buttons.  Have had it on charge overnight but still not joy. HELP!!!!!

Electronics and water do not go together well.
Shutting it off and placing it in a container of uncooked rice or silica gel for about a week, might have saved it. Attempting to power it on or charge it so soon after it got wet has likely permanently cooked it if it wasn't completely fried already.
Make an appointment and get it replaced.
The phone getting "a little bit of water" in it is like a girl who is "a little bit pregnant". You either are or you are not. You can not be a little bit pregnant. It doesn't matter how wet the electronics are. They are wet. Putting electricity through the circuits while they are wet can completely fry them.

  • Dropped iPhone in water?  Read my experience - you may not need to replace!

I just wanted to let people know what happened to me when I dropped my phone in a sink full of water. First, I just want to say I really think Apple is great. The said they would "repair" my broken phone for only $250 which meant that they would just give me a brand new phone in exchange for mine. They don't have to do that but it's pretty cool that they do. The main reason I am writing this is that my phone is working perfectly after being submerged for a full second! I freaked out and got really upset when it happened and there was no help to be found online, so I'm writing this so that other people don't throw their phones away without at least trying to get it working. Here are the things I did, I'm not sure what did the trick maybe just the combination:
Sat night dropped phone in water,
dried it off right away and "tapped" the bottom of the phone against a paper towel for about 20 minutes. Water kept leaking out of the speaker holes.
Then the phone freaked out for about 3 hours. My husband checked it when he got home and it was working almost perfectly. The on/off button didn't work and it kept telling me about a non-compatible device, but other than that it was working normally. Oh and there was a splotch of water under the screen in the corner.
I decided to let the battery die and let it dry out before I plugged it into the wall charger. I let it dry out until Tuesday night and when I plugged it in it was working normally like nothing had ever happened!! I voided the warranty but I don't care I'm just glad I still have my phone. If you have just dropped your phone in the water don't give up on it!

Well, I have a good experience to report. Or is it a bad experience with a good outcome? I dropped my iPhone in the toilet this morning. Took me a second to realize what had happened but then I moved faster than I have in years. The case I use is net on the sides and bottom so offered no protection. I immediately dried it and blew in every opening I found, tried it to see if it worked, ran to read these Discussions to see what to do, and discovered I shouldn't try it to see if it works! So I powered it off. It had been giving me error messages like something wasn't compatible, and it would blink on and off. The screen looked fine, I had my calendar and photos but I'd lost the Internet connection, and Edge, and had no AT&T service bars.
Someone (haven't yet found it again) suggested trying a hair dryer, which I did on COOL cycle. I held it a bit away, alternated pointing it toward each opening, and did that for about 15 minutes or so. I then put it back on the dock, charged it, and synced it. While on the Dock, it would go on and off, ask if I wanted to power off, but I synced everything, left it on the dock charging until it was full and now ... it's fine.
I should have powered it off right away; dodged a bullet there; but I believe the hair dryer, on cool, for a steady period of time helped speed up getting the moisture out, as opposed to letting it sit for a week drying naturally.
Everything is working. Whew!! It won't be going in that room with me again!
Will post again if anything changes.

  • I dropped my phone is water. How do I get it to work again?

So I dropped my phone in water and I quickly took it out. And it still works, but the speakers are broken on it. How do I get them to work?

You won't.  Had you placed the phone immediately in a bag of dry rice for a few days, you might have had a chance.  But turning on a phone before it dries completely just destroys it.
Bring it in to Apple for replacement.

  • I dropped my phone in water for a few seconds, but it still works. I went to charge the phone but it fried the charger. It still works though. I just cant charge it. Does anyone know what i should do?

I dropped my phone in water for a few seconds, but it still works. I went to charge the phone but it friend the charger. It still works though. I just cant charge it. Does anyone know what i should do? it actually burnt the tip og the charger and was smoking  I have no idea how the phone is still working. I do not want to buy a new phone.

    Hi Sean,
If it fried the charger, then there is something seriously wrong with it. You need to take it to an Apple Store to have it looked at, and be prepared to be told that you will need to get a new phone. If you can't charge it, it will be useless to you in a matter of days anyway. Also, do not even try to hook it up to your computer....you will probably cause serious damage to the computer and be even worse off than you are now.
Sorry about your troubles. But for your own safety, you need to have the phone looked at! Don't wait - if you wait until it has no more charge left, then no one will be able to recharge it to look at it....
    Cheers,
