Dropping support for Internet Explorer 8,  and  Firefox 20.x or below

Starting April 30th, we will discontinue support for all Internet Explorer 8 versions and all Firefox 20 versions and below. In order to continue using Business Catalyst Admin user interface without problems, you and your clients need to upgrade to a more recent browser:
Download Internet Explorer
Download Safari
Download Chrome
Download Firefox

Thanks for your reply Shay.
We plan to officially support IE8 with the next patch release to JDeveloper 11g - currently planned for later this year. That matches what I wrote in my initial post in this forum thread about IE8 support.
We usually only certify browsers after they officially go production. That does not really answer my question (q1) in this forum thread.
It is more like, how can I assess that Oracle will support any successor(s) of IE8 or successor(s) of any currently supported browsers for ADF 11g applications in the future? How long will Oracle support "commonly used browsers" for an ADF 11g application I build today, so how long will I be able to use that application?
How do I answer such questions for ADF 11g applications that should be deployed on the internet (where, as some extranet environments, you typically have not that much (or no) control over which browsers your users use ... although some would like to argue with that, see forum thread "ADF Faces RC browser support and browser market share")?
(By the way, do you have any feedback for the forum thread "ADF 10g support for Internet Explorer 8"?)

Jan

  • ADF 10g support for Internet Explorer 8

    hi
Working with Oracle support (in SR 7732252.994) we first reached this conclusion ...
"Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 is not a supported for the ADF Faces applications built using JDeveloper 10.1.3.5.0"
    When I subsequently asked ...
"Will there be a JDeveloper 10g release (post 10.1.3.5.0) that will support IE8 ?"
    ... the answer was ...
"Jdeveloper 10.1.3.5 is the last release in the Jdeveloper 10g branch and there will be no more releases after 10.1.3.5.
Therefore, there will be no support for IE 8 in the Jdeveloper 10g branch."
    question
(q1)What is supposed to happen to ADF 10g production applications deployed in an environment that allows little control over the browser that is used (extranet/internet)?
    many thanks

  • ADF 11g support for Internet Explorer 8 plus x

    hi
Given the current situation for ADF 10g, see forum thread "ADF 10g support for Internet Explorer 8" ...
at ADF 10g support for Internet Explorer 8
... I was wondering about the future browser support in ADF 11g.
(Specifically about IE8 the knownissues.html document for JDeveloper and ADF 11g (11.1.1.1.0) currently says "Internet Explorer 8 is neither supported nor certified. If you must use IE8, set the compatibility view settings in your IE8 browser to ALL. In IE8, go to the Tools menu -> Compatibility View Settings and check the last checkbox "Display All Websites In Compatibility View"." and "... IE8 support should be in the upcoming first patch set. ..." Re: PanelStretchLayout on IE8.)
    question
(q1) What is the life expectancy of applications built with ADF (Faces) 11g in regard to their future browser support?
    many thanks

  • Distorted images in internet explorer, chrome, and firefox

    Hello everyone.
it's my first time writing in a forum.i have just bought a dell notebook inspiron 15 which i upgrated from windows 8 to windows 8.1. (First time working with windows 8.)  i'm having distorted images at some sites, double or blurry either in internet explorer
firefox or chrome. also very often i'm getting an error message that the web page cannot be viewed(in explorer) and in firefox that i should communicate with the web page in order to inform them that . when i refresh the page loads normally..so why does that
happen..is there a problem with the browsers or are the websites outdated?
In addition,  web players other than youtube, like for example JWplayer start playing for a moment and then stop. After refreshing they stop at the same spot. i have the latest update of adobe flash and no problem with my internet connection.
    thank you in advance
    Anna, Greece
p.s i should note that i'm not very used in computer language so a simple explanation will be very welcomed. :)

    Hi,
This pages all display fine in my PC, for IE, you can click Tools\Internet Options\Advanced, then under "Accelerated graphics" enable or disable hardware acceleration to check for hardware or software compatibility issues with viewing certain Internet websites.
Or under "Multimedia", enable automatic image resizing, check the result.
or clear browser history, temporary internet files, tools\internet options\general\delete... or reset IE as a test.
These are solutions for IE, since this issue happend on all browsers, I guess that it might be related with your video card--hardware device, if so, it's recommended to take this pc to a local shop to repair it.

  • Flash Player Crashing on Internet Explorer 8 and Firefox

I downloaded Adobe Flash Player 10 when my computer told me about the new update about two-three weeks ago. It seems like ever since then it has crashed every two hours or so and then my computer has had this problem where the script disapears from both internet engines and the computer icons disapear and it shuts down like it would in a computer from the 1990s (as in instead of the blue screen saying "windows shutting down" it has that little grey bar that says "winodws shutting down").
Whenever I restart it it is fine then another two hours pass by with me using a website like Youtube and the same thing happens. I have tried undownloading it and redownloading it but the same thing keeps happening.
I'm not sure if there is a bug on it or not or if it is my own comp but it seems like whenever I use something that needs flash player for more than two hours the computer goes crazy.
If it helps I am using a Microsoft Windows XP Intel Celeron processor 540 and it is about 4 years old now and everything is up to date on my add ons for firefox and internet explorer and I scanned for viruses and spyware and everything is clean.

Hi, I don't think Pat will mind if I pop in with how to turn off the hardware acceleration:-) I'll let him handle the driver issues.
Go to youtube and as soon as the video starts, right click on it and click on Settings and you should see a Display Setting; UNcheck the hardware acceleration.
Hope that helps part of the possible problem.

  • Support for Internet Explorer 8 on Windows 7 (after April 8, 2014)

    Hi,
I am aware that Microsoft will stop supporting Internet Explorer 8 on April 8 2014 (the same date that Windows XP support stops).
We are running Windows 7 with Internet Explorer 8 as the browser.
We have not installed Internet Explorer 9 or above due to compatibility issues with internal intranet systems.
I have been trying to find out if machines that have Windows 7 with Internet Explorer 8 installed, will still receive newly detected Internet Explorer 8 Microsoft Security Patches from Microsoft following April 8, 2014.  This information has been difficult
    to determine on the internet.
Do you know if machines that have Windows 7 with Internet Explorer 8 installed, will still receive newly detected Internet Explorer 8 Microsoft Security Patches from Microsoft following April 8, 2014?
If there are any websites that you are aware of that answer either Yes or No to this question, I would appreciate if you could paste their link(s) here.
    Thanks,
    Brian.

MS don't stop supporting IE8 on April 8 2014, they stop supporting WindowsXP on that date.
If you have IE8 installed on WindowsXP, the platform becomes unsupported, as well as everything that shipped with the platform or that is installed on the platform.
IE when installed on a supported platform, is supported in line with the support status of that platform.

So, at this point in time of posting, if your platform is Windows7, IE8/9/10/11 on that platform attracts this EOS date:

  • I'm currently using Internet Explorer E8 and Firefox as alternative browsers, but am thinking of uninstall IE. If so , would I lose all my favourites/bookmarks already imported to Firefox?

    No additional information considered necessary.

It is always a good idea to have a second browser.
It is very difficult to fully remove Internet Explorer as some of it is integrated into the Windows operating system. I doubt if you'll find it in XP's Add/Remove Programs.
Bookmarks in Firefox will stay there if you uninstall any other browser.

  • Portal and Support for Internet Explorer 8

    Hi,
We have three Portals, different versions:
    EP6 SP19
    EP7 SP9
    EP7 SP15
    Is IE 8 supported?
    Thanks, Neeta

    Hi,
first, check the PAM Matrix (service.sap.com/pam).
    EP6 -> No
    EP7 -> depends ...
IE8 also has a compatibility mode that will make him behave more like IE7. So, if the EP SPS version is supported with IE7, the changes are good that IE8 will also work with the EP version ...
If something is not working, use a supported version of IE.

    Tobias

  • Internet Explorer 9 and Firefox 4

    Hey Everyone -
I've heard some reports of IE9 not working well on the forums just yet.  Lithium expects to have the issues resolved in mid to late April.  If you don't have to upgrade I would recommend not doing so just yet.
Also, has anyone tried Firefox 4 recently? I haven't heard anything but I do know the release candidate is available.
    Thanks,
    Laura

    Hi Laura,
Do you have any updates concerning IE9 compatibility ?
I like Firefox but IE too...

  • My system needs internet explorer for a application I need to down load, however I need to down load the latest yahoo tool bar for internet explorer to work properly and firefox will not allow the down load of yahoo toolbar. How do I fix this?

I have not used Internet explorer since downloading firefox and I need IE for a trading platform that I need to use. In order to get IE working I apparently need to down load the latest version of Yahoo toolbar, however when I try to down load the tool bar Firefox will not allow the down load of that file.

Thank you so much, for once in my computer life I knew what the problem was, what caused it, why it was caused, what it did, what it made it do and most importantly how to fix it and to do it correctly and expeditiously. I can not Thank You all enough for all of the help! I also have Pogo mailed this to all on my friends list, where they have all learned as I have and have fixed theirs also. and the message is being spread. Thank You again, I just can not say it enough.

  • Windows 7-Internet Explorer 8 and Mozilla Firefox 3.5

    Hi friends;
I want to share that great news which is posted Steven Chan (Oracle Development) :

    Hi,
Apologize for the late reply and the misunderstanding about the ActiveX download location, we could change the location through the below registries:
Use Registry Editor to change the "ActiveXCache" value to the location you want in the following registry key:
          HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
Use Registry Editor to change the "0" value to the location you want in the following registry key:
          HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ActiveX Cache
NOTE: The values you enter in steps 1 and 2 must match.
    More information, please check
How to Change the Download Location for ActiveX Files (registries exists in IE11).
Regarding the urls that download the cab files into user profile directory, would you mind to share the URL?
And here is some information regarding inf files:
    About INF File Architecture
We may check the value of DestDir, DestDir can be set to 10 to place the file into the \Windows directory or to 11 to place the file into the \Windows\System directory. If no value is specified, the file is placed into the \Cache directory.

  • Google desktop and Picasa open Internet Explorer even though Firefox is my default browser

I am using Firefox 6, and no matter what I do clicking on Google Desktop opens Internet Explorer instead of Firefox. I have set Firefox as the default browser in at least 3 places: In Firefox itself; on the Internet Options section of the Control Panel; In the add/remove programs Set Default Programs screen. This is all in Windows XP professional. The same problem happens with Picasa online albums (when I go from my computer's Picasa to Web Albums). I don't know when this started, but now I cannot get my Web timeline. I have uninstalled Google Desktop.

Hello nanemy1854, set also firefox as default browser in Add or Remove Programs list in win xp, see for more information : [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/setting-firefox-default-browser-does-not-work#w_windows-xp Firefox as default browser in win xp].

  • Firefox dropping support for optgroups?

It seems that Firefox 4 has dropped support for <optgroup> elements? Why would such a great web development browser do this? Also, the box model has changed with this release.
    Not good guys.

Plugin are installed outside the control of Firefox and Firefox usually scan specific registry keys to find a specific plugin.
As long as MS makes a Silverlight plugin available for Firefox then you can use Silverlight in Firefox.
