Dropping Sysaux
Hi All,
In one of the test database the sysaux datafile is corrupted. And the database is not opening.
What I did.
1) make the sysaux datafile offline drop.
2) Open the database.
3) Add a new datafile to the sysaux.
Now my question is. When i try to drop the sysaux tablespace in migrate mode it is not letting me to do.
I can't drop the corrupted datafile being the first datafile of sysaux.
Please suggest .. How to drop the sysaux tablespace.

Hello,
And now the concern I have is I wanted to drop the corrupted datafile.
And now the concern I have is I wanted to drop the corrupted datafile. Anyhow i can't recover it.You don't have any BACKUP nor ARCHIVE, you executed the ALTER DATABASE DATAFILE OFFLINE DROP, and the SYSAUX Tablespace cannot be DROPPED.
So, I think you should make a BACKUP of your current Database.
Then, CREATE a new Database and move the Datas from the old Database to the New One (for instance by using Transportable Tablespace or Export/Import Datapump ).
The SYSAUX Tablespace is created at the Database creation only.
The following Note will give you more information about this special Tablespace:
- *SYSAUX Tablespace in Oracle 10g and higher [ID 243246.1]*
Hope this help.
Best regards,
Jean-Valentin

Recover from dropped SYSAUX datafile
Trying to recover a DEV database without rebuilding it, but not hopeful at this point. Basically, someone dropped the SYSAUX (and a few other) datafiles, so now they are showing up in the database as MISSING0003 instead of the actual filename. There are no backups, but I want to drop the tablespaces (not SYSAUX) and in trying to do so, I'm getting an error about the SYSAUX tablespace for some reason. How can I rebuild or recover from the SYSAUX issue, since I cannot drop the SYSAUX tablespace, as it seems to be preventing me from dropping any of the other tablespaces that have missing datafiles as well. I really just need to recreate the tablespaces, but get the below error when I try to drop the schemas (with cascade) or the tablespaces (including contents).
SQL> drop tablespace DATA001 including contents;
drop tablespace DATA001 including contents
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 2
ORA-00376: file 3 cannot be read at this time
ORA-01111: name for data file 3 is unknown - rename to correct file
ORA-01110: data file 3: 'C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.2.0\DB_1\DATABASE\MISSING00003'
ORA-06512: at line 19
Any help to get past the first issue of dropping the non-SYSTEM tablespaces would be great, and any follow-up on how to rebuild/recreate/recover from the dropped SYSAUX datafiles would be appreciated as well.

Without backups you are not going to be able recover the dropped data files. Given that one of the tablespaces was the required SYSAUX tablespace you are most likely looking at a rebuild instead of a restore. -
What is the use of SYSAUX Tablespace in Oracle 10G
Dear Experts,
Please Tell me What is the use of SYSAUX Tablespace in Oracle 10G Because
during Web Load Testing It is going to increase countinuosly.Although i am not using this with any tables.
How Can I find out the what is gong on in this.
Can I Remove this tablesspace and other non using Schemas like FLOWS_020100,MDSYS,OUTLN,DIP and TSMSYS etc.What is SYSAUX?
The SYSAUX tablespace provides storage of non-sys-related tables and indexes that traditionally were placed in the SYSTEM tablespace. For example, the tables and indexes that were previously owned by the system user can now be specified for a SYSAUX tablespace. Unfortunately, Oracle still places the SCOTT schema and the other demonstration schemas in the SYSTEM tablespace. Go figure.
The SYSAUX tablespace is specified with the CREATE DATABASE command. This is demonstrated in the example database creation script in Figure 1.1.

Oracle10g sysaux
With the new SYSAUX tablespace, Oracle comes closer to providing all the needed tablespaces for a truly OFA-compliant database right out of the box. With just one CREATE DATABASE command we can specify the SYSTEM tablespace, the TEMPORARY tablespace, the AUXSYS tablespace, the default UNDO tablespace, and the redo logs.
Of course, with the Oracle Managed Files option you can create an entire database with a single command, but the database created is not suitable for production use and is not OFA-compliant.
The SYSAUX tablespace is required in all new 10g databases. Only the SYSAUX tablespace datafile location is specified. Oracle specifies the remainder of the tablespace properties including:
online
permanent
read write
extent managment local
segment space management auto
If a datafile is specified for the SYSTEM tablespace, then one must be specified for the SYSAUX tablespace as well. If one is not specified, then the CREATE DATABASE command will fail. The only exception is for an Oracle Managed File system.
During any update of a database to Oracle Database 10g, a SYSAUX tablespace must be created or the upgrade will fail. The SYSAUX tablespace has the same security profile as the SYSTEM tablespace. However, loss of the SYSAUX tablespace will not result in a database crash, only the functional loss of the schemas it contains.
Can I drop SysAux?
DROP DATAFILE

Hi,
I have accidently dropped SYSAUX datafile... How can I recover it?
I used " ALTER DATABASE DATAFILE ‘<datafile name with complete path>’ OFFLINE DROP;" to drop the datafile...
Please suggest me...
Thanks
KSGThe first question I would like to have been answerred is the fact if the datafile still exists on the filesystem ? The second question would be if you are running in archive log mode ? If so you could try the following approach, if no archive logs are there and no backup:
- The alter database command has only removed the entry from the controlfile, so the datafile is only missing there as an administrative problem.
- alter database backup controlfile to trace; (trace file containing the controlfile create script)
- add in the script the dropped datafile.
- Bring down the database with an shutdown immediate
- make a backup from the whole database (just to have your start position always there !!)
- run the create controlfile script.
You could end up with a database which will not open due to recovery issues, but probably this is fixable.

Hi all,
I am just trying some recovery scenarios. I have RMAN online backup from this morning and I dropped SYSAUX datafile. I realized that I do not use RC. I tried to search but could not get much help for recovering (if I can recover) the db in this case. Could you please advise. Your help is much appreciated. ThanksHi,
Use following command to know the backups needed to recover the datafile
RMAN>restore preview datafile <file_id>;
- recover datafile
RMAN> restore datafile <file_id>;
RMAN> recover datafile <file_id>;

Hi
how to drop domain indexes and secondary objects exists in the sysaux tablespace;
jst to knw the information.
bye
SunilHi,
Still if you wish to drop the SYSAUX tablespace, then first drop the index, query to find the index is
select * from dba_indexes a where a.index_type = 'DOMAIN'
Note: Tablespace_name would be empty in these type of index, so you if too be yourself sure that this index belongs to SYSAUX tablespace. I have guessed whether a particular domain index belongs to SYSAUX tablespace or not, by looking at tablespace of other normal index created by the owner of the domain index
Try to drop these index, and then drop sysaux, if still pointing same error, then search for index with index_type as 'FUNCTION-BASED DOMAIN' and carry out the same procedure.

Can u somebody share the best practices on sysaux tablespace maintanence. It growing fast, thought the retention stuff are kept minimal
Hi,
The sysaux tablespace is a 10g feature that offloads noncritical application metadata from the system tablespace, reducing or eliminating hotspots in the system tablespace, in addition to consolidating the metadata that was previously in other tablespaces (oem_repository, etc).
The applications that use the SYSAUX tablespace are not permanently tied to this tablespace, you can move them to another tablespace. Check out how your space is being used:
SELECT occupant_name, schema_name, space_usage_kbytes
FROM v$sys_occupants;
... if usage for an occupant such as Logminer is requiring heavy space usage consider moving it to another tablespace:
sql> CREATE SMALLFILE TABLESPACE logminer_rep
datafile '/oradata/logminer_rep01.dbf'
size 10g
autoextend on next 5g;
Is there a move procedure for occupant:
select occupant_name, move_procedure
from v$sysaux_occupants;
begin
sys.dbms_logmnr_d.set_tablespace('logminer_rep);
end;
The sysaux tablespace is similar to system tablespace, it has a few restrictions.
1. you can add datafiles to the tablespace:
alter tablespace sysaux add
datafile '/oradata/sysaux02.dbf' size 1G;
or
if define as a BIGFILE, use autoextend on
you cannot:
2. take sysaux offline
3. drop sysaux
4. rename sysaux
Otherwise maintaining SYSAUX is similar to other tablespaces, monitor space and provision space as application behavior requires. -
How to release space of SYSAUX tablespace
Hi,
I am now using htmldb 2.0 and created tens of tables in one schema. Several tables are stored in tablespace SYSAUX. Since now I am trying to store a big file to the table(1GB), I found the tablespace grows pretty fast and I have to extend the size. The odd thing is when I delete that file from my table, SYSAUX tablespace seems not release any room and when I insert the big file again into the table, SYSAUX grows again. How can I release the space then? I can't image that why it can't release any room. I also check the occupants of SYSAUX and found one occupant called "other" takes over 90% of space. I tried to move it out of SYSAUX, it doesn't work. What do "other" do actually? I got completely lost. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Logical corruption found in the sysaux tablespace
Dear All:
We lately see the logical corruption error when running dbverify command which shows the block corruption. It is always on the the sysaux tablespace. The database is 11g and platform is Linux.
we get the error like:error backing up file 2 block xxxx: logical corruption and this comes to alert.log out of the automated maintenance job like sqltunning advisor running during maintenance window.
Now As far as I know,we can't drop or rename the sysaux tablespace. there is a startup migrate option to drop the SYSAUX but it does not work due to the presence of domain indexes. you may run the rman block media recovery but it ends with not fixing since rman backups are more of physical than maintain the logical integrity.
Any help, advise, suggestion will be highly appreciated.If you let this corruption there then you are likely to face a big issue that will compromise database availability sooner or later. The sysaux is a critical tablespace, so you must proceed with caution.
Make sure you have a valid backup and don't do any thing unless you are sure about what you are doing and you have a fall back procedure.
if you still have a valid backup then you can use rman to perform a db block level recovery, this will help you in fixing the block. Otherwise try to restore and recover the sysaux. In case you cannot fix the block by refreshing the sysaux tablespace then I suggest you to create a new database and use aTransportable Tablespace technique to migrate all tablespaces from your current database to the new one and get rid of this database.

TSPITR - Recover a Dropped Tablespace aborting due dependency over XDB.
I found an issue using TSPITR to Recover a Dropped Tablespace when XML DB (XDB) is installed on a different tablespace from "SYSAUX".
During execution of TSPITR RMAN use Data Pump to export/import Tablespace Metadata as Data Pump has dependency over XDB views and related objects and XDB is installed on a set of tablespace not included on dummy database then EXPDP fails.
Errors raised ORA-39123, ORA-00376, ORA-01110.
I didn't found any limitation about XDB location on documentation or MoS.
This looks like a Oracle Bug.
See this:

RMAN>If I drop tablespace SOE and XDB on Target database and try to restore both (SOE,XDB) export will succeeds but during IMPORT Metadata RMAN will faill due XDB dependency.
In my view, they (mean Oracle) need find way to include XDB Tablespace at DUMMY database only to export (EXPDP) Metadata purposes.
If someone get a workaround for this error will be grateful.
P.S: This is not a Production environment and will soon open a SR on Oracle Support.Hi Michael,
I did not find solution to use TSPITR to recover dropped tablespace if XML DB is installed in a non-default tablespace (i.e outside of SYSAUX).
As far I could understand, the only way to perform this RESTORE is using the old fashion. By creating clone database excluding all unnecessary tablespace, exporting and importing metadata from desired tablespace manually.
Since Oracle has not solved the issue I created my own workaround.
@All
If someone is able to use TSPITR to restore dropped tablespace when XDB is installed in a non-default tablespace, please let me know!!!
The procedure below is supported on All Oracle Version since 10.1 until 11.2.
I DON'T RECOMMEND to create AUXILIARY (clone) database using the same server from TARGET because you can damage the TARGET database.
On this example I'm using same server.
See this example:
### ON TARGET DATABASE
SQL> select count(1) SEG_COUNT from dba_segments where tablespace_name='SOE';

## PERFORM A FULL BACKUP AFTER RESTORE TABLESPACE.Regards,
Levi Pereira -
hi,
I ve upgraded an database for 9i to 10g. The upgrade was sucessfull and the Db was in normal usage. Due to some functionality testing the database was restored to a state from the backup taken after upgrade. But while restoring the database i forgot to include the path of the datafile of sysaux tablespace in the control file re-creation script.
I didnt notice this issue for long time until i realised the mistake made by me.
I found in the alert logs which showed errors such as
ORA-01157: cannot identify/lock data file 124 - see DBWR trace file
ORA-01110: data file 124: '/oracle/ora/dbs/MISSING00141'
ORA-27037: unable to obtain file status
since the path of the sysaux tablespace was not referred in the script i thought of referring it now and i issued the following command
alter tablespace sysaux add datafile '<path>/sysaux01.dbf' reuse;
i issed this as the datafile was already present and i thought of jus reuing it again.
But what had happened is this datafile had been added as an additional datafile for the sysaux tablespace,which means the sysaux is still referring '/oracle/ora/dbs/MISSING00141' as one of the datafile.
but one important thing is that there isnt any such datafile ie '/oracle/ora/dbs/MISSING00141' when i checked inside the dbs folder.
The path is getting referred as part of the sysaux tablespace but its physical location is not found.
So i did took this datafile offlinedrop issuing
alter database datafile '/oracle/ora/dbs/MISSING00141' ofline drop
but the problem i m facing now is the AWR is not opening up and it throw error stating first datafile of sysaux tablespace '/oracle/ora/dbs/MISSING00141' not found.
ORA-00376: file 124 cannot be read at this time
ORA-01110: data file 141: '/oracle/ora/dbs/MISSING00141'
ORA-06512: at line 21.
any solution for solving the problem would be appreciated
thanks,
ahmedi m able to start up the database normally....there isnt any errors while starting the DB.These errors are encountered in alert log file and user trace files.As as result AWR is not opening.

since the path of the sysaux tablespace was not referred in the script i thought of referring it now and i issued the following command
alter tablespace sysaux add datafile '<path>/sysaux01.dbf' reuse;
i issued this as the datafile was already present and i thought of jus reusing it again.
ORA-06512: at line 21.
any solution for solving the problem would be appreciated
thanks,
ahmedHi, I've got exactly the same problem up to the point where I try to offline drop the MISSING0009 datafile.
The command says it completed OK but the phantom datafile does not go and still reports that it's there in dba_data_files, althoguh the online_status is RECOVER, the status is ONLINE.
I'm not sure how to get rid of the entry if the offline drop command doesnt work. I've tried recreating the control file and deleting the entry for this datafile too but somehow it returned after that too!
I''m also not sure what to do when I do get rid of it - since I cant recover the old sysaux01.dbf datafile since it's not consistent with the database since there has been a week inbetween and we're not running archivelogging.
I would assume that all the stuff usually put in the SYSAUX tablespace is therefore lost, but I dont think we use anything that normally puts stuff in there, I've only noticed this since I was trying to install em.
Do I have to rebuild the database from scratch? Or any ideas on how I can recover the situation? Can I do something like startup upgrade and re-run the upgrade scripts which will put their stuff back into sysaux....?
Many thanks for ideas

Need suggestion regarding drop RAC database of 11g
Hi All,
I have 11gR2 RAC environment setup. Database required recovery and I have no backup, based on support engineer guidance I restore the database using some hidden parameters though its a corrupted db so I need to rebuild. For rebuild purpose I took expdp of entire database and then drop it. I had drop through "dbca" , db was open and I run "dbca" and select drop database option, at one time it showing me warning/error ORA-01586:database must be mounted EXCLUSIVE and not open for this operation but after that drop was run perfectly.
but when I check the ASM disk status , it still show as it is , I mean no change in their free_space column, I also verified through asmcmd command and all the Datafiles are still there.
I want to cleanup asm disk which are still fillup with dbfs and I thought that would be cleared by dropping database but no my assumption was wrong.
can any one suggest me what to do if I want to make free space in asm disk which was allocated for dbf files?
Thanks in advance.Hi Forstmann,
