Drowned iPod Touch - Is it really dead?

Folks, I've drowned my iPod touch - yes, the moisture indicator in the earbud jack is red. I know it's not covered by warranty, but is it fixable? It asks to be plugged into iTunes tries to go into recovery mode - but then gives an error code - so it works to some extent (the display looks OK). The suggested fixed have all been tried. Is it now a really good-looking paperweight or is it worth trying to get it professionally repaired?

One thing I think you should not be doing right now is using it. Water and electricity do not mix -- you know that -- and these small devices can take a while to dry out. You need somewhere warm and dry and it has to be left alone for a long time to allow it to completely dry out. If you take it to a repair shop, that is what they will (or should) do before disassembly and cleaning.
How badly was it drowned? Was it a brief immersion or a thorough soaking? The wetter, the worse it might be.
As to repair and/or replacement, that must depend on its value to you as a device (my touch is a multi-purpose tool these days) balanced against the cost of possible repairs where you are.

  • My new iPod touch is getting really warm while I use it. Is it normal? I mean, I have silicone cover, maybe it's the reason for iPod being so HOT?... How do you think, is it too important to have a cover on the iPod? How about screen protector? :S

  • IPod touch 4G being really slow???

Is my iPod touch 4th Generation White 32GB just getting old? My iPod is becoming really slow and is crashing a lot! Is it because of my A4 chip becoming "Outdated" and does this mean I just have to upgrade my iPod touch 4G to a 5G?

The 5G is better since it has a duel-core processor and twice the memory, 512 MB vice 256.
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Double click the Home betton and delete all the apps from the recently used dock
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • IOS 5 update, iPod Touch 3G is really a complete restore?

Going through all the normal things with the iOS 5 update on my iPod
Touch.  Went through the usual reboots and then said it was starting to
restore.  This involves all my apps AND all my music (25 gig).  Is this
really the way this update is intended?  Not about to try anything at this
point except let it chug along to completion.
Lord knows what is going to be the result of this is going to be when it's
done.  Hope I don't end up with an iBrick.

Thanks for the quick reply.  Maybe I just don't remember, but
    I didn't recall this when going from 3.x to 4.  Then again, I didn't
have this much stuff on it then an maybe just didn't notice.
In some respects I guess it's a good thing since it forces the
iPod to start from a "clean slate" so to speak.  There should be
some warning that it could take a while.

  • IPod Touch 4G Camera really blurry

I went to the Apple store and asked the guy to fix my iPod (my iPod was not charging) he fixed it by oppening it, but now my back camera is SUPER blurry. I know the camera on the iPod Tocuh 4G *****, it's like 0.7 mega pixels. But it's more blurry than ussual. Here is an example picture (of my hand): http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/823/photoapr1151306pm.jpg/
Please help, I do not want to open it myself. And Apple wont fix it since it's how of warranty.

    Then that is bad/abnormal.
    Is the lens clean?
Have you tried the standard fixes to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod?

If iTunes is asking you to enter the iPod then yo have to restore and thus erase the iPod after you place the iPod in recovery mode. Otherwise:

  • New iPod Touch, audio quality really noisy.

I just recently purchased an iPod Touch 4th generation in white on Boxing Day. So far, I'm enjoying my product, however when I try to listen to music through any earbuds the quality of the audio becomes distorted and noisy. I've tried the earbuds on other devices and the audio quality was also poor. I've tried using different earbuds with the iPod and the quality remains poor. I think there has been a manufacturer flaw in the product.
Do I return to the store in which I purchased the iPod and demande for an exhange? And if I do, would it be exchanged at none of my expense?
    Thank you in advance.

Well I don't have time to experiment in detail with and document technical analyses about the device but I will say that I did briefly compare it to the 2nd generation Nano as well as my home stereo using the same files (a couple of 256kbit AAC files ripped by myself in iTunes 8; one rock and one hip hop) several times and I enjoyed the resulting similarity throughout the various sources.
I'm quite content with the sound quality coming from this device... and I'm pretty anal about these things generally.

  • IPod touch 5th Gen Microphone Dead?

    Hello,
We bought our 7-year old son a (PRODUCT) RED iPod touch, 5th gen for Christmas. About a week or two ago, the microphone quit picking up audio. So now he can't voice-to-text, use FaceTime or Siri or record audio in videos. I've checked and there's nowhere in iOS where you can mute the mic - that I know of anyway. He's been super careful with it and says he hasn't spilled any liquids in it or anything. When we plug in the earphones that have the volume +/- controls and mic on them, the device will pick up audio through that mic as it overrides the built-in mic. So thats proof there's something wrong with the built-in mic.
So Anyone else had this happen? If so did you find a way to fix it or did it have to be sent in for repair?

    - Make sure the mic hole it clear and unobstructed. It is the hole on the back by the camera lens
    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings

All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a hardware problem.

  • My iPod touch is dying really fast. It will charge to 100% then once I unplug it , it's down to 20% within 4 minutes . Sometimes it's just taking a picture , or a video , sometimes it's checking Instagram , but about 2 minutes after it's on 20% it's dead

My iPod will die within 8 minutes of use unplugged . Or it will just turn off and won't start up again. What is wrong with it ? I've only had it for about 7 months

Using the battery level meter in this manner is comparable to using your car's fuel gauge to calculate miles per gallon. The only thing that matters is the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown.
Use the wall-mount charger that came with the iPad and charge overnight.  Do NOT use an iPod/iPhone charger.  Do NOT use a computer's USB port.  Then, operate it normally until auto shut-down (ignore any low level alerts that may appear).  An irony is that doing that test to determine the total operating time is also the procedure necessary to calibrate the battery level meter.
I'm not claiming that you do not have a problem.  I am stating, however, that we don't yet know.  If the above test does, in fact, indicate a problem, read this.
    Also, according to Apple:
    Use Your iPad Regularly
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
Elsewhere, Apple elaborates and explains that two half-discharges (or four quarter-discharges, etc.) equals one full discharge.

  • The battery life on my ipod touch 4g is really poor any ideas?

in stanby mode after a full charge from 10 percent to 100 percent in the night drops to about 20-50 percent in the morning ( 9 hours). bluetooth is off, i close all apps, screen brightness is 50 percent ( not that this affects it in standby mode), the wifi is on. wifi should not use tthis amount of power. Also when im playing or surfing on my ipod the battery drops from 100 percent after full charge not surface charge to 50 perecnt within 30 mins or usage again everything above ^ is on or off. Any ideas cause i dont really want to change ipods as it has a 15 pound screen protector on it which i dont have the money to waste on buying another pack. Also if i did have change it would i be able to swap ot for a white one?

    - When sleeping the iPod can use wifi and if it has trouble connecting it will keep trying and drain the battery.  I leave mine in airplane mode when sleeping. Otherwise it is frequenlty drained like you see on yours.
    - The rapid drop whe playing vido seems to indicae that something is wrong.
    - If your iPod is defective and under warranty, Apple will give you a refurbished one of the same model.

  • My 4th gen. iPod Touch is zoomed really zoomed in at the lock screen and will NOT zoom out. What the **** is wrong???, My 4th gen. iPod Touch is zoomed really zoomed in at the lock screen and will NOT zoom out. What the **** is wrong???

Just what it says. I was using my iPod, everything was fine, I locked it, put it down on the table for a few minutes, picked it back up, and when I clicked the lock button the lock screen came up totally zoomed in. ***. I discovered I could move around the screen by touching a direction and it was dragged across. I got to the unlock slider and the little button that you slide across took up the entire width of the screen. Once again, ***. It let me drag it across, but it's impossible to type in my unlock combination as it requires me to click on wrong numbers in order to drag it to the ones I need. I also shut it down completely 3 times. It starts up normal, but the lock screen is frozen for a few seconds, then zooms in way far. ***????? Please someone help me out here, I've never seen any iPod do this...

use 3 fingers and double tap
then turn off zoom at settings>general>accessibility
