Drum Mapping MIDI? Ala Nuendo/SX?

Coming from Nuendo/SX, is there anything similar to midi drum mapping?
If you have ever used the program, you would know, it has an excellent way to map out beats - you simply select the range (4th, 8th, 16th) and the matrix is sort of like a midi REASON matrix where you can PAINT an entire 16th high hat on every 8th or 16th note.
Then move on to snare, then kick.
Can't seem to find the solution in Logic.
Thanks

Go to Hyper Edit window, then under hyper edit menu, choose GM midi kit, If you want, you can create your own mapped drum kits.

I have just re-mapped midi drums now how do I save that as a pre-set or save it so I can load it for every session?

    Hi,
once you have defined the Lane Set, you can rename it in the Info field.
In order to use that in a new project, you must import it, here how to do:
    1) create a new project
    2) in File menu choose IMPORT and then OTHER
    3) select the project that contain the Lane set you have created
    4) in the window that appear on the right, on bottom click on the "Import Project Settings" button
    5) Then you can select Lane Sets. That is!
In this way you can select also other things to import, Screensets, Scoresets, and others and others.
    Hope this have helped you.

  • Has anyone noticed this V-Drums mapping bug in Drum Designer?

    Hi guys
There seems to be a bug in the v-drums mapping for Drum Designer... wondering if anyone else has noticed this?
On standard Roland V-Drums kits, the toms are mapped as follows:
    High tom: C2
    Low tom: A1
    Floor tom: G1
On some of the Drum designer kits, such as "Neo Soul" and "Retro Rock", the above tom mapping works correctly.
However, for other kits, such as "SoCal" and "Roots Kit", the low tom is played when either the low tom (A1) or the floor tom (G1) is played on the V-Drums kit.
It appears that for some reason, there are some kits such as the two mentioned above, that are mapped incorrectly so that the same low tom sound is played when the drummer is either hitting the low tom or the floor tom. I am using a standard Roland TD12 kit.
I've raised this as a bug using Apple's "Logic Feedback" page - hopefully they will check it out soon!
    Cheers,
    Mike

There are 2 work arounds for this situation.
    - edit the midi note sent by the module to set it to F1 (kit - inst - F4 - F5 - note number)
    - insert a midi transformer between your Roland module and the drummer track in logic's midi environnement window
The second option is more tricky but it opens up a whole word of other tranformations which are worth exploring.

  • Drum mapping out since 10.1

For some reason my drum mapping is all over the place on all of my compositions since upgrading to 10.1. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? I really don't want to have to re-map everything back into place.
The only other thing that's changed recently is I've connected a different controller keyboard but surly that wouldn't cause problems like this?
    THANKS

Btw.. quick way in piano roll is; (In case you are not doing this...)
Click on key in Piano Keyboard to the left in Piano Roll to select all notes in region for specific key you clicked on
or select note in piano roll and press Shift + E
Now drag one of the notes in piano roll up or down to new note position
or use Option + Up/Down arrows to transpose up/down 1 semitone or shift + Option + Up/down arrow to transpose up/down 12 semitones

  • Help Needed!! - Yamaha Drum Mapping

This has probably come up before but the things I've tried havn't seemed to work:
I need to remap the Yamaha DTXplorer drums in Logic Express, as the snare is currently silent and the kick does some sort of roll.
I've tried using midipipe already (which caused more problems than it solved so would prefer to avoid that at all costs). I've also tried inserting a mapped instrument into the clicks&ports layer in the environment, and then remapping the 'output notes' to what they should be (e.g A0-C1 and G0-D1) but there is still no sound produced when I hit the pads, or on playback after I've recorded them.
The other thing is I would like to be able to use a MIDI keyboard as well without causing a problem with that.
I am a beginner and despite spending hours trying to sort this out by myself I've hit a brick wall. Is anyone able to offer a simple tutorial to sort this out?
    Thanks in advance
    Dan

    Many thanks for the reply.
Currently all pads work correctly apart from the kick and the snare. The snare for example has no audio assigned to it, if I was to transpose wouldn't the other parts of the drum kit then match up incorrectly? I also want to have the correct setup when recording, rather than just at the playback stage so I can hear exactly what is being recorded.
I'm basically looking for some step-by-step instructions that I can try in order to fix it, I used to understand logic a lot better but after not using it for years I'm back to trial and error with things.

  • Mapping MIDI sounds in GB3

I record drum tracks via my Roland V-Drums and Cakewalk/Sonar. I save them as .mid files then drag them on to my GB3 app for playback. Does anyone know how to change the instrument assignments in GB3? Not all the sounds from my drum kit are audible and some don't seem to be mapped correctly - trigger the wrong instrument. Is there a way to see/tweak the instrument sounds in GB3? Can this be done via Apple's MIDI Mgr utility? I've tried working w/ a couple of the preset GB3 drum kits(rock, pop kits) but still not sounding right. Would be great if I could create my own GarageBand drum kit that maps 1:1 w/ the instrumentation in my Roland TD-20. Any tips/suggestions? Anyone using GB3 to record V-Drums? And is there a version of GB that works w/ an old G3 iMac DV?
    Thanks!

  • Drum mapping

Hi , my friend gave me a nice no-name e-drumset. It works fine with GarageBand but the only thing I want to know is how can I change the sounds on the pads?
I can only get a rimclick instead of a snare beat. I tried already midipipe but this doesn't work. I bet that there are hundreds of musicians out there who have the same question. I hope you can help me.

  • I need help connecting drums with MIDI-USB cable.

I've been trying this for years, but I just don't know what to do or what I need to connect my electronic drums to GarageBand or any other MIDI programs, I pretty much connect the module and my mac with a MIDI to USB cable and nothing seems to recognize or detect any MIDI instruments or anything at all, does anyone know why or how to do this? If I need something or not? Thanks.

So it's this one, I assume?

  • V-drums via midi

I would like to record some drums.. I have a simple set of v-drums with two 1/4 outputs. I have a simple audio interface with one XLR input and one 1/4 input.
Wondering how this might work... would it sound like crap? would it be in mono?
    Questions..questions...
And then the idea of midi out crossed my mind.

    Thanks!
    Jay

    would it sound like crap?
it would sound exactly like what it sounds like now with speakers or headphones.
    would it be in mono?
with a single 1/4" input, yes.

i can't really make any sense from this.
    you'd need a MIDI interface:
    http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/Interfaces.html
(Click "MIDI Only" in the righthand sidebar)
you could then record your drums into a MIDI track in GB. GB offers no MIDI-OUT.

  • Is there a Cubase-style GM Drum Map in Logic?

    Hi!
I've been really happy about choosing Logic, but I must admit that I'm almost envious to my friend who's using Cubase. Simply for the reason that I haven't found an equally effortless way to create drum beats as the GM mode in Cubase.
The ability to create multiple notes by simply dragging the cursor horizontally makes such a difference! Also the velocity map below the regular map makes everything easy. Logic just keeps stretching the length of an individual note. I know that in the Ultrabeat window you can do this, but I would really wanna do it i Logic's own map:)
Anyone know if this is possible in Logic? I am already familiar with the Step Edit Keyboard and Ultrabeat's Step Edit, so I'm not talking about them.
    Cheers!

Oh by the way, after some research i found these links that a lot of you might find very useful for creating drum tracks effectively and quickly:

  • Need help with Roland V-drums and MIDI

Is it possible to record the Roland TD-3 internal drum sounds from the module via MIDI without using the Logic plug-ins (like Ultrabeat) etc.? I used the GM Device drums and in the environment window hooked up the multi instrument to the QuickTime Synth with success. I have also used Ultrabeat as an instrument with success. And audio cables out into audio tracks with success. So, the question is... Is it possible just to run MIDI out and use the TD-3s internal sounds?

sorry I'm not getting a few things....
    1) how do I create a midi object?
you create the midi object in the midi inst layer of your environment. at the top left under the menu that says "new" select the very 1st thing in the list, "instrument" (midi instrument)
    2) where do I assign the midi output?
after you create the instrument the perameters box opens on the left. you assign the port and channel there
    5) where are the audio outs?
to what? the roland? doesn't it have audio output?
I've been reading the manual and have tried various
forums.... been trying to get this since last
night.... my brain. I know it's gotta be simple...
not real simple but not real hard either

  • Mapping Midi Controller

I'm trying to control Logic's software instruments using my controller, but when I am in the controller assignments window, it will only let me map one parameter. Every time that I change from, say cutoff to attack, it changes the initial message i taught it. Maybe this is a limitation of Express that I'm unaware of? please help me out...

  • Converting note mapping for addictive drums to use midi kit

My midikit is wrongly assigned for addictive drums. When I hit the hihat I get a crash and so on.
    the manual says:
If you want to use GM midi files, or connect an e-drum kit to AD, you need to convert the note mapping. In many hosts you can use a “drum map” to remap the notes from GM to AD. There are several drum maps available for free download in our User Area!
    Eh?
    Please help me.
    Timo

    Hi
    You have two possible solutions:
    1) In the drumkit controller, remap the MIDI notes transmitted to suit
    2) In Logic, create a Mapped Instrument object in the Environment, and sort out the MIDI Input/Output note mapping to suit. Then either:
connect this object between the Physical Input and the Sequencer Input objects onthe Clicks and Ports layer when you wish to record MIDI from your drum controller with AD (disconnect Mapped Instrument when you have finished with the drums).
    or
Cable the Mapped Instrument object directly to the Instrument Channel Strip (Mixer Layer) which has the AD plug. With the  correct Arrange track Click on the  Mapped Instrument object using the MIDI Thru tool to re-assign the Arrange track to the Mapped Instrument object.
