Drum track audio to midi

Hello
How to transform my kick drum audio track into a midi track ? don't know if it's possible ... i've seen the "audio to score" thing but no "audio to beat"
thanks
bontempi

Audio to Score is the way to do this from within Logic.
Do a search here, as this has been discussed a lot, but essentially, you'll open the Sample Edit window, on, say, the snare drum track, and open Audio to Score.
Adjust the settings so that the vertical black lines represent the snare hits.
Let Audio to Score to it's thing, and then open the MIDI region that it created, and using the Transformer, set all the varied MIDI notes to the same fixed pitch that your snare sample will play. You can also do the same with velocities.
I could go into more detail, but I and others have already done so numerous times on this forum, so the detailed info is available. Just do a search here.
Also, for 50 bucks, you can eliminate the need to use audio to score altogether, by getting the apTrigga plug-in.
http://www.apulsoft.ch/aptrigga/
Drumagog is also another great trigger plug-in, although more expensive.
Holler back if you have any problems with Audio to Score though. it's actually fairly easy to do, once you know the steps involved, and have done it a couple of times.

  • Why I have to mute Audio Voice Recording Track always in order to subdue the voice recorded when I want to solo other tracks, audio or midi for listening. The other audio tracks don't sound without being muted. Please advise how to deal with this .Thanks

Why I have to mute the Audio Voice recording track  ( the first voice track ) always in order to sudue its recorded sound while I want to listen to other
tracks ( either audio or midi tracks ) in solo ?The other audio tracks with voice recording do not have to be muted in order not to  interfere with other
tracks turned on solo. Can someone kindly explain this phenomenon and any way to fix this ?
    Thanks

    Thanks, ATR,
I wll try this--but I still am unclear on how to do what the Manual says is possible: select clips on another track that WILL be moved, if I so desire, so as to remain synched to the main Video track.
    UPDATE:
In the case of inserting Freeze Frame, I just tried both Ctrl method and Alt method, and neither worked.
    1. Put Video on Vid1 track
    2. Put Music on Sound Track
    3. Ran a few seconds of Vid
    4. Stopped Vid, selected Freeze Frame
    5. Held down Ctrl key while clicking "Insert in Movie"  also tried with holding down Alt key.
Result: a 3 second still was inserted int the Vid1 track.  A corresponding gap was created in the Sound Track.
    6. Slid the final part of the Sound Track to the left along the timeline to re-connect it to the next segment created by the above process.
Result: the video following the final Freeze Frame was pushed to the right end of  Video1 track.
    7. Slid the Sound Track all the way to the left.
Result: the entire Video 1 Track contents were pushed to the right and divided in pieces.
I documented each step with screen shots which I can send if you want them and if I can figure out how to do it.
    UPDATE #2
In the case of inserting a video clip to the Timeline, I just tried both Ctrl method and Alt method, and neither worked.
    1. Locate video in Project Assets
2a. R click video in Project Assets (pull-down menu appears), hold down Ctrl, click Insert to Timeline.
Result: Vid clip is inserted on Video 1 track, Sound Track is separated with a corresponding gap.
2b.  R click video in Project Assets (pull-down menu appears), push Alt
Result: pull-down menu disappears as soon as Alt is pushed down.
I can stil drag the Vid clip but it's one more manual step...I love shortcuts!!

  • I can´t get the drum tracks of my Korg M50 to sound in garageband.  Does anyone know how?

I can´t get the drum tracks of my Korg M50 to sound in garageband.  Does anyone know how?

If it's actual audio out from the M50, you just need to hook up its audio outs into whatever you're using to get sound into the computer (audio interface, the computer's input jack, whatever it is that you're using), fire up a real audio track, and record.
But if you're having difficult with drum tracks, that's usually this:
Drum tracks on many MIDI devices default to MIDI channel 10. MIDI channel 10 is like the universal MIDI channel for drum tracks. However, GB likes to see MIDI channel 1, regardless of the instrument.
Therefore, if this is a MIDI issue, you'd need to change the MIDI channel on your drum tracks from 10 to 1 to make them GB friendly.

  • Audio and Midi Jumping/Swithching Tracks in Arrange Window

I've had an issue with audio and Midi information switching tracks in the arrange window. Granted, I'm new with Logic. But as I'm working in an audio Track (let's say track 3), I happen to undo a record pass or delete something, and the next thing I know, all the tracks have jumped up one -- so the Midi drums in track 10 are in nine, playing the piano insert. The Midi Piano is up in 8 doing nothing (because track 8 is an audio track), etc. etc. etc. Very annoying -- even when the tracks are frozen.
Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks

I've had this happen in the past.
What version of Logic are you working on?

  • How do I bounce audio and midi tracks at the same time to burn a CD?

    Hi there,
I would like to bounce a song with both audio and midi tracks recorded in it onto a CD.
Despite ensuring that I am doing a realtime bounce (not offline) I am only getting the audio tracks burnt onto the CD - the midi isn't getting bounced to the final output.
This must be a stupid question, if someone would be so kind as to give me an obvious answer I would be most grateful.
    Thankin y'all
    amata

    Hi A,
if you use the instrument (with logic virtual synths) tracks for midi,
    it will.
BTW, why don't you do it offline?
It will be so much faster.
    Kindly regards,
    Jorge

  • I'm trying to record audio into my iPad2 using GarageBand and an iRig, but I can't monitor my tracks at the same time as recording, meaning if I lay down a drum track and attempt to record guitar, I can't hear the drums while recording. Thoughts?

I'm trying to record audio into my iPad2 using GarageBand and an iRig, but I can't monitor my tracks at the same time as recording, meaning if I lay down a drum track and attempt to record guitar, I can't hear the drums while recording. Thoughts?

Hi, I have this exact same problem. I haven't been using an iRig, just a cheap USB-jack cable. I managed to do this with the first cable I bought, but since it broke I've been unable to find a replacement that allows me to hear the drums while recording. DId you manage to get over this issue? If so I would really like to know how. Thanks and best wishes.

  • What would cause Logic to open MIDI drum tracks as separate GM tracks?

So this is a continuation of a question I posted in another thread (so some of you may recognize the topic), but I have narrowed my problem down to this:
When I load a Standard Midi File into Logic 9, all my drum tracks come up as separate tracks (by actual drum) as GM Device. So I have 11+ tracks for drums. One for kick, one for snare, one for...you get the point. This has happened for several files, so it's not limited to one. The tracks have no playback (unless I load QT synth, which sounds like an 80's video game).
I posted the file for a few people to DL and try and it loaded correctly for them! Drums are on ONE track and load a Logic drum set (not GM on separate tracks).
So the question is: Why is MY copy of Logic behaving this way and others are not? Is this a simple setting?
You can take a peak at some screen caps and the original journey here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2147823&tstart=0
    Thanks,
    Scott

Thanks Bill. I guess the split tracks are half the problem. I was under the impression that those of you who loaded the file had the tracks combined and Logic loaded a drum set for them. So, when you loaded the file the drum tracks were NOT loaded into a GM instrument? Each drum track was a Logic Instrument? Still a little confused...
Thanks for the tip on glueing tracks together. I'm on it.
I will do this then create a new track, load a drum set, and move the midi data onto it. Still a work around, IMO, but a faster one!

  • Adding audio instrument to 24-track audio template: no MIDI or sound

I've been trying to add an audio instrument track to what was originally a song that started out with the 24-track audio template in Logic.
I don't seem to have any trouble adding an audio instrument track, but when I then choose the audio instrument - and, yes, I have chosen an instrument, not just clicked on the track - I get no sound nor can I see any MIDI connection in the transport window.
Everything works fine on songs based on templates that start out with both audio and audio instruments. So, I'm wondering if there's something I need to add to the environment to allow the MIDI connection? I admit I'm not an expert once in the environment, but a quick glance seems to show the general MIDI already set up.
    I simply want to add a B3 to a band's rhythm track.
    Any help?
    TiBook 800   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

if you are getting midi into logic with other songs then there must be something missing in this song. open your environment to the click and ports layer and make sure there is a cable that runs out of the sum, of the Physical input to the Sequencer input (Record & Thru). there may be a couple other objects there like a keyboard and monitor object, just make sure everything is linked together.
    hope this helps

  • Logic Pro when recording audio and midi takes, the regions sometimes become confused. The midi tracks line up with audio tracks.

When recording midi and audio tracks simutaneously the midi tracks don't always line up with the software instrument channel. They may show up on the audio track. Sometimes they appear white instead of the normal green. Any suggestions?

    Hey there jlholm,
It sounds like you are seeing some unexpected behavior when you are working on your project. I would use troubleshooting steps 6-10 from the following article named:

  • Can't hear live track when playing midi drum track

This is a really dumb question. I've been away from Logic too long. I'm trying to monitor a live guitar track while I play a recorded midi drum beat. I can hear the midi track fine. And I can hear the live guitar track when the midi track is not playing. But as soon as I start playback, the live track goes silent even though the red record enable button is on and the levels show live guitar signal. It just doesn't make it to the output. If I actually record a region, I can hear it. But I don't want to record, I just want to practice with effects and a drum track.
I've done this before. What have I forgotten?

    Hi,
hold down the "CTRL + click" ot rigth button of the mouse in the REC icon on the transport...

  • Midi Drum Tracking

Hey guys, I was hoping somebody could help me out with this. I am recording songs that are recorded from my yamaha motif to logic. I can get the drums and their midi information onto a midi track in logic, but then all aspects of the drums are on one midi channel. Snare, bass, toms, cymbols, are all on one midi track. So I cant pan or what not to any individual drum element. Please let me know if there is a better way to get the drums in logic or if there is a function in logic that I can use to fix this. Thnx.

What you can do is take the drum midi track in logic and mute everything but the kicks, - then play that and record the kik drums from the motif. Then mute everything but the snare, and do the process again, etc..
You could also tell use the Logic command to split tracks by pitch, that would automatically seperate all the kiks, from snares, hats, etc.. But you most likely want to keep the 3 hat notes on one track, and probably keep the toms as a mixed stereo pair. I usually split my drums into, kik, snare, hats, tom mix, and cymbal mix.
That way you will have all the motif drums isolated, inside of Logic now...

  • Solution for "Error while trying to synchronize Audio and MIDI" and "System Overload" messages

Article for those who hate Logic error windows
Seen in Logic Pro 9.1.7 on Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4
and Logic Pro 9.0.0 on Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.5
    Logic Pro:
    System Overload.
The audio engine was not able to process all required data in time.
    (-10011)
Error while trying to synchronize Audio and MIDI.
    Sample Rate xxxxx recognized.
Check conflict between Logic Pro and external device.
The search in the help given as follows: overload occurs when you use a lot of tracks and a lot of effects on them, and the synchronization is lost when the selected MIDI track for recording or playback. Yes, this is all that is written in the resources. And here are useful tips that have been found:
The Bounce function allows the entire instrument track to be recorded as an audio file. This bounced audio file can then be used (as an audio region) on a standard audio track, allowing you to reassign the available processing power for further software instrument tracks. For more details, see "Bouncing Your Project."
You can also make use of the Freeze function to capture the output of a software instrument track, again saving processing power. For details, see "Freezing Tracks in the Arrange Area."
These tips - about the timing. About overload - there are no tips, except as "reducing the number of plug-ins" and "increasing latency". Zero useful tips - I got two errors in the test project with a blank audio track with no effects, MIDI drums and standard synthesizer, it was no aux buses, and the entire project was only a single plugin in the master track.
Here is the configuration of my computer:
    iMac12, 2
CPU: Intel Core i5 3,1 GHz
    Memory: 4 GB
And here's a project that almost immediately stops Logic, all instruments and plug-ins with the init-patch, ie not the most demanding settings:
    It's sad.
When this happened the first time, I could start the project only if the empty audio track has been selected, a track specially designed so that you can at least start the project. Then, this problem has evaporated along with the changing conditions of work and I forgot about it until the last case.
I was looking for the cause of the problem in the console and the system monitor for two days, and finally I found that Logic ping to the network frequently. I remembered the exact time of occurrence of the problem, and system logs revealed that the problems began immediately, as soon as I deactivate the service of the Internet.
Solution: enable the Internet, or add a new network service on a computer with no Internet. I just created the Ethernet connection to the ip address 1.0.0.0
    Logic immediately began to sing.

    Hi gabaghoul
Yes, it worked for me on four different OS and Logic versions (10.6 - 10.8 and 9.0 - 9.1.6)
It does not work in some cases, hard enough to tell in which one, but you can try, it very easy: go to the net settings and create new Ethernet connection to the ip address 1.0.0.0 and connect LAN cable to the port.
Also you can try to figure out what happens in your system while Logic error occured - fot that you just start Console and search "logicpro"
Pay attention to repetitive events in a console and events with suitable timing, not so far from error
The problem may be related to the GUI or system memory, sometimes turning off Safari (or Chrome, others browsers) might help.

  • When I export a AAF file from Protools 9 and Import the file into Logic ProX the drum track is out of sync.  I created the drum loop using NI Maschine.  Has anyone else seem this??

When I export an AAF file/project from Protools 9 using an external drive and import the AAF into Logice Pro X the drum track does not play correctly.  It is out of sync with the rest of the track.  I created the drum loop as a plugin using Native Instruments Maschine. Has anyone else had this problem??  Also how would I go about exporting the midi tracks from the Protools session.  The midi track does not show when the file is imported to Logic Pro X.  The midi data should export with the AAF file correct??

Are you using any plugins in Logic?
In Preferences/Audio  under the General tab, how do you have the plug-in-latency compensation set?
