Drums on Demand

Hi everyone,
I am using GB 08 and recently purchased the drums on demand loops CD. There are a few songsets in 12/8 and 6/8 time in the library. Those songsets won't show up in the loop browser even when I have the song time sig. set for 12/8 or 6/8. The files are visible in the browser but no loops. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
Herco

Eddie, I concur.
I have bought 2 sets from the DrumsonDemand and have been extremeley pleased with their product. You are right in that they sound "real" not "cheesey" like some of the GB loops. Well worth the money for GB owners.

  • Best way to import Drums on Demand samples ?

Anyone know the best way to import drums on demand samples.
Drums On Demand is the name of the company that samples real drums for looping.
    They are .WAV files.
I'd like to know the best way to import those files into GarageBand.
Will they be files I'll be able to hear a sample of like the other loops in GarageBand?
    thanks,
    t

When you order Drums on Demand from the company, you have to choose the "Apple Loops Format" if
you are working with Garageband. They will work exactly like your existing Apple loops when you click and drag the the DOD folders to your browser. To the best of my knowledge, .wav files do not work
like Apple Loops in GB. When you order, they give you a variety of formats to choose from. Choose
"Apple Loops". I use them, and they are very good.

  • Newbie: Drums. What options are there for drums?

    Hi there,
I'm having fun with Logic Express. I can play most instruments I need, but not drums. I've never played drums.
I don't have much money to spend of it.
Searching through previous threads, I found references to the following drum loop companies:
    Drums on Demand:
    http://www.drumsondemand.com/
    BetaMonkey:
    http://www.betamonkeymusic.com/
Drums from H*ll (Hehee, the forum edited that word!):
    http://www.drumsfromhell.com/homeofdrumloops.html
I already purchased Apple's Jam Pack Rhythm Section. I was a somewhat disappointed in it, because it contains a little bit for everyone, and one or two loops for every style in the world, but not much of what I want.
I guess I want more slow-tempo rock. But not necessarily "soft rock". I like things to rise and fall in volume in a dramatic way, but not stay soft like a ballad, nor head-banging fast.
I haven't listened to Drums On Demand, but I'm a bit afraid their "soft" disk might be full of soft dreary ballads, and their "heavy" disk might be full of really fast head-banging stuff.
Maybe I'll still go with something like Drums On Demand. But the problem with loop disks seems to be that you will buy many loops that you will never use. And maybe, hopefully, find a few that are good. Pity they're not previewable online, and downloadable online.
What about MIDI loops? Is it possible to purchase MIDI loops and then just apply them to a standard drum kit in Logic Express?
I figured a MIDI file would be more editable. I could use an existing beat, and then add some extra drum or cymbal smashes to make it fit my music better.
Or should I just learn to make my own MIDI loops? I have a good sense of rhythm for other instruments. Would it be possible to apply this to drums easily, and play them on a keyboard? Having not played real drums, I am afraid I would not know how to get the feel of a real kit.
    Thanks for your info.

Tofu Mouse, if you ever do consider the more expensive options, take a good and hard and long look at EZdrummer. My band is using it to avoid having to pay for studio time every time we want to record drum tracks (we record the rest of our instruments + my vocals in our own studio, with very good results, but we don't have the equipment to record our own drums), and even without our drummer present, we are able to lay down our drum parts quickly.
I should mention that the drum arrangements our drummer composes and plays are extremely advanced (he is a schooled jazz, rock and metal drummer, so he is both very technical and very varied in his playing), but thanks to EZdrummer and Logic's brilliant hyper editor, we can usually replicate him even if he isn't present just by listening to low quality live recordings of him playing the actual songs. So far, the only people who have been able to hear that our drums are digital, are the ones who know that our own drumset could never yield so good sound quality as the EZdrummer samples do (The "Human Playing" button in EZdrummer is everyone's friend, ensuring that the drum beats never sound to artificial or perfect)
And this is probably one of the most advanced ways to use of EZdrummer. If all you want to do is lay down drum parts for home-written material, the included drum loops and the hyper editor will make that extremely easy for you.
Good luck, whatever peculiar drum tool you end up with

  • Simple drum loops -- do they exist?

    Hi, folks!
I'm looking for some simple, clean, consistent sounding drum loops that are versatile (pop, rock, country) for songwriting. Everything out there I've encountered is layered with colour, effects and is way too busy.
    Any suggestions? Many thanks...

Thanks, Sam. After hours of searching, I finally found a solution: Drums on Demand. No added colour, clean beats, and large groups of loops, perfect for songwriting.

  • Realistic Drums

What's the best way to get realistic jazz drums in Logic? I've been using the Drums on Demand audio loops, and great though they are, there are only so many of them and being audio loops there is a limit to how much they can be edited.
I've also tried NI Battery (My normal port of call for other genres) but my results have been less than realistic.
I think working with midi would be best as it has almost limitless possibilities when it comes to editing. Are there any midi files available that would make a good starting point or are there any romplers that come bundled with midi jazz grooves?
    Thanks in advance,
    simon

Regarding all the suggestions for a human drummer, I think you all should detail techniques for mic'ing drums, recommended mics and mic placements, mic preamps and interfaces. The OP is using Drums on Demand loops now, so perhaps maybe recommending the next reasonable step would be more useful than smart aleck answers. Sheesh. Of course often it's better to use a human drummer playing a quality drum kit recorded with state of the art microphones through a pro console but not everyone has the setup and knowledge to record a real drum kit properly.
Many of the most classic jazz drum performances were recorded with 3 mics or less. And most people know at least 1 drummer... (though it's true, many of us would rather not admit it).
    1 drummer
2 mics into any audio interface you have
    3 hit "record".
It WILL sound better and take less time than any loops or libraries or plugin. IF the drummer's half decent... And if you have to learn something about mic placement along the way, so be it. There are worse fates in this world than having to learn about recording.
And that is good solid advice.
BUT if the OP has access to none of the above, then I think Sonic Reality sells loops by Danny Gotleib, Peter Erskine, Steve Gadd, and others. EZ Drummer with the jazz expansion will also work... But in my experience it almost always takes more time to assemble loops that fit a jazz performance (if you're trying to hide the fact that they're loops. Maybe that won't matter to the OP).
    Best o' luck!

  • Drum machine recommendations??

I'm looking for a good drum machine for Mac OS X 10.3.9 any one got any descent recommendations, I have iDrum but it's not what im after, generally not a drum sequencer but something like the Alesis SR-16 but as an online application.
    Any recommendations?

I'm fairly new to the home recording game, and have put off making a decision on incorporating drums. I do have a Zoom MRT-3B, which has decent sounds but isn't as easy to program as I'd like. I, too, got iDrums but haven't been happy with it. You might Google "Drums on Demand" -- they offer sets of drum patterns, including intros, fills, and endings, in various genres of music. The "pieces" can be assembled fairly readily. DOD will likely be my next purchase....

  • Logic referencing wrong apple loop after dragging from loop browser

(I am an X-Pro Tools Junkie) I am loving Logic.
I recently upgraded from Logic 7 on an old G4 to Logic 9 Studio on a MacBook Pro. I installed all my software and plugin’s  fresh on the new machine. I opened up each projectindividually on my old machine and exporting the entire project and checked allthe boxes to copy all loops, audio files, settings, etc.  to a new auxiliary hard drive. As a result, all my projects open up nicely on my new system.
I have a massive library of third party apple loopsincluding all 18 volumes of Drums On Demand. Also, I have the preferencechecked NOT to copy audio files to the session. Unfortunately, with thiscombination, when I drag and drop one of my Apple Loops into a project, ifthere is also a loop in the project folder of the same name, Logic isn’t referencingthe loop I am dragging, but the incorrect older one in the project folder. Thisis happening often, as Drums On Demand has a file naming system, so that theverse of each song-set is titled consistently, and so on.  So if I have some drums in a project, and Iwant to try different drums, I have to physically copy them to the projectaudio folder, and then drag and drop from the finder, which simple isn’t asfun.
    Any Ideas?
Apple, maybe you can fix this in your next update.

I was having a similar problem. I had taken some aif files and converted them successfully into blue apple loops that responded to my songs tempos. they showed up in the loop browser.
However the next day when I tried to convert more audio file, I couldn't repeat the procedure that I did the day before. I'm baffled as to what I did right and now am doing wrong. I even tried opening the Apple Loop utility directly from the Library folder. Its goes through the process of creating the loops, I get to adjust transients and all, but it does not show up in the loops menus when I look for it.

  • Why are other loops showing up in browser?

I've installed a folder of 3rd party drum loops (Drums On Demand) by dragging and dropping the folder, etc. (112 BPM Bonhamish). But when I select that folder (view) I still see other loops in addition to the 112 Bonham loops. What gives? I've installed these same loops in Garageband and they work properly. Any ideas as to what is going on here?

  • Curious about apple loops

As I cruise around the apple forums and manuals, I'm curious to what makes a loop an "apple Loop" as compared to just a loop.
As I read further I'm pretty sure that I noticed somewhere that all loops created can become "apple loops". Is this true?
So, I can import a wav file in 16 bit, from any disc, ie: drums on demand, and convert that into an "apple loop".
I'm converting to GB from a pc based product and I'm wondering what I can still use.
I noticed that M audio has a bunch of cool sounding sample and loop libraries. Some are stated to be in "apple" format. Others were aiff and rex, can I use these and convert them?
    Sorry for all the ?
    One more........on a different subject
Should I use my podxt as a direct usb to usb into GB.... Or ........record direct to the line in from the podxt analog out? Thanks very much nyhatco

what makes a loop an "apple Loop"
When it's properly tagged with metadata describing its Key, Tempo, etc it becomes an Apple Loop.

  • Merging and bouncing tracks

Hi. I am using drums on demand loops in the apple loops in garageband to create a drum track. Drums on demand is amazing and i love it...When i create the drum tracks with all the different pieces i have to create separate tracks for each piece (for example i have a track for a verse, verse fill, hi hat hits, etc all on different track....this forces me to create a ton of separate track. Basically i want to know how i can layer a loop onto another loop IN THE SAME TRACK. When i try to this it just replaces that section with the current loop...sorry im awful at explaining things. I basically just want to layer all my drum pieces onto one track. And what is the procedure to bouncing multiple tracks into one track? Thanks

hey thanks.. that will take care of my bouncing question. just curious if i can layer multiple recordings onto one track?

  • What loops come with version 8? Looking to replace Garageband and Soundtrak

I am looking to replace Garageband 08 and Soundtrack 1.5 with Logic Express 8. Should I save those audio libraries or does LE 8 have it's own or duplicate?
    Thanks, Ed

    Hi,
I'm pretty sure that, whatever you have available to you in Garageband, is also available in E8 so, yeah, E8 is pulling from the same loops. I can't really be sure if E8 has extra loops simply because I've bought and/or downloaded so many loops over the past year or so that I've pretty much lost track of what were the original loops. What I can tell you is that they are much better organized in LE8. For instance I bought some drum loops from "Drums on Demand" and in the media section of LE8 they're listed under "Drums on Demand" which garageband and LE7 did not do. There was nothing in the literature stating that LE8 came with extra loops. Pro 8, however, comes with the first 5 jam packs included. That pretty good when you figure that that's nearly $500.00 worth of loops plus all the other extra stuff you get with Logic Pro Studio and it's only $299.00 more. The reason I didn't go pro is that I already have the sounds, plugins and loops that I need for the music that I do so, for me personally, Pro would just have been overkill. But if I ever get tired of my external synth the I might ditch it, buy a controller and go with Logic Pro Studio. It's nice to have the option at such a reasonable price.

  • I'm using GarageBand 10.0.1. Do the built-in drum tracks only come in mono format, or is it possible to make them true stereo (i.e. Left and Right channels outputing different signals, to sound like the kit has been panned across the stereo field)?

I'm using GarageBand 10.0.1. Do the built-in drum tracks only come in mono format, or is it possible to make them true stereo (i.e. Left and Right channels putting out different signals, to sound like the kit has been panned across the stereo field)?

All the Drum Kits available for GarageBand are mixed in stereo.
Logic provides the same 18 Drum Kits also as "Producer Kits", which are multi-track outputs,. Each Drum Kit Piece (Kick, Snare, HH, etc) and also room mice and overheads are routed to individual channel strips.
Here is a screenshot of one Drum Kit in Logic Pro X with individual Channels Strips. Each Channel Strip can be loaded with individual effects (compressor) and adduced with individual sends, etc.
What that means is that all the Drummers are professionally recorded and sampled with individual mics. The Stereo Drums Kits are just "stereo mix-downs" for easier handling and less CPU demand. I explain all the details about the Drummer ecosystem in my graphically enhanced manual "GarageBand X - How it Works"
    Hope that helps

    Hello,
For using the upload data functionality from interactive planning grid, you need to first download the data. While downloading the data, please check the check box for "Prepare the file for upload at later time", and then select the option of putting the technical setting into the file or into the system. Either way is okay. Then try uploading the same file.
    This should solve your problem.
    Thank you.

  • Unable to Stream Video on Demand files from NAS on latest version of AMS 5.0.3

    Hi,
I was hoping that someone could assist me.
Our organisation has recently purchased Adobe Media Server Standard to deploy to two Windows 2008 R2 servers (core edition) to stream flash content (video on demand only) which is resident on NAS storage.
I have considerable difficultly in streaming content from NAS and from the literature I have read and the configuration I have done it should be possible.
The steps I have taken to attempt to get this to work are as follows:
    Installation
    - Installed AMS 5.0.1 on both servers using the default TCP ports and Apache was not installed as part of the install
    - Both AMS instances upgraded to the latest release AMS 5.0.3
    - Windows Firewall on the servers disabled (we use hardware firewalls) and TCP connectivity verified by using telnet to connect these servers on 1935 and 80
    Initial Configuration
    - As we only will be using video on demand I removed the live, livepkgr and multicast applications from the /applications folder. Vod is the only application remaining
    - Using the videoplayer in the /samples/videoplayer we were successfully able to view the sample streams
    Configuration to stream from NAS
    - I modified the VOD_DIR in the ams.ini file in the /conf folder to reflect the NAS location (\\{nas FQDN\sharename}
    - Our NAS share has NTFS permissions applied and our AMS servers are joined to Active Directory. I created an AD account that had membership of the group that had read rights to the NAS share.
    - I then reconfigured the AMS windows service to Log on with the AD account (as per the install guide: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/adobemediaserver/configadmin/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d119f2925 e64-7fc7.2.3.html)
    Issues Experienced
    - Whenever I change the AMS windows service to use an AD user (and not the Local System account), the service will run for only a short time (time often varies) before the service stops. In the application event log the AMS (Core) component
logs the error "Failed to create process mutex".
    - The issue experienced is similar to a previous post by an FMS 3.5 user (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/650522)
    Troubleshooting:
    - To rule out a permission issue, I confirmed that the AD user created could actually read from the NAS share
    - I also gave the AD user read/write permission to the AMS install directory. I have also added the AD user to the local admin group. Still get the "Failed to create process mutex" error and service stops.
    - We created a test share on the NAS that had no restrictions set (everyone full control) and reconfigured the ams.ini to use this. The service still stops.
    - I reconfigured the ams.ini back to the default path (local storage) and attempted to start the AMS windows service with the AD account. The service still stops which seems to confirm the issue is not related to the NAS storage/permissions itself
    - I gave the servers machine account from AD read/write access to the NAS shares (both test and live shares) and reconfigured the AMS windows service to use the local system account. Whilst the windows service remains stable and runs,
      streams do not work
    - I have been testing using rtmpdump and a player (http://osmf.org/configurator/fmp/):
       - With the player the player connects and the stream remains in a "buffering state"
       - With rtmpdump we get the "NetStream.Play.StreamNotFound" error. The stream definately exists. I have the rtmpdump log file but not sure how to upload it to this post
    - The above issues/behaviour is experienced from both servers
    Workaround:
    - The only way I can get NAS streaming to work is to map the NAS share as a network drive from the server
    - On the same server I then stopped the AMS windows service and started AMS as a console application (ams.ini is pointing to the NAS location)
    - Streaming then works however this is not an exceptable workaround for a enterprise server that will be streaming content to the Internet. Having to rely on mapped network drives and console applications is certainly far from ideal.
Should it be possible to have the windows service run under the context of another account and to be able to stream without then having to have a mapped network drive?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks
    Jason
UPDATE: to add further, I have just tested this on a Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard edition with the full UI and I get the exact behaviour/problems as documented above. The issue I am experiencing is not related to the fact I am using the core edition of Windows.

    HI,
I have managed to address my issue and get this working!
When reconfiguring the AMS service to use the AD account you MUST also reconfigure the Adobe Media Administration Server to use the AD account.
This mismatch in accounts was causing the mutex issue and stopping the AMS account from running. Read access to the NAS and log on as a service right on the AMS server
was all that required for the stream from NAS to work.
If any Adobe staff read this thread - can I please request that the section on "Mapping Directories to Network Drives" in the "Configuring the Content Storage" section of the help guide (http://help.adobe.com/en_US/adobemediaserver/configadmin/adobemediaserver_5.0.3_config_adm in.pdf) be revised to be clearer as to what windows services need to be reconfigured
    to support AD authentication
    Thanks
    Jason

  • Unable to pass variables from IRPT to on demand MDO in MII v12.2

    Hi all,
Here is what I am trying to achieve - to pass an order input value from front end and fetch the results through on demand MDO.
STEP 1: Created a BLS transaction with input parameter order and tested it to get Output XML - SUCCESSFUL.
STEP 2: Created an On-Demand MDO object pointing to the BLS transaction, tested it by passing the value to input parameter in Dynamic Query Parameters - SUCCESSFUL.
STEP 3: Created an MDO Query Template in SELECT mode pointing to the MDO object created, there are 2 things which I noticed. when I pass the value to OBJECT PARAMETER, it worked fine and when I pass it to PARAMETERS it Doest not work. I just used the object parameter because it worked for me.
STEP 4: Created an Applet with MDO Query Template and Grid Display template. Tried passing the value using setParam(1, order). I found 3 different variations:
Result 1: If Object Parameter in MDO Query is not set to any default value - "No Data Available" is seen on applet.
Result 2: If Object Parameter is set to some valid default value say 123, irrespective of what I pass from UI setParam, I always see the data of 123.
Result 3: If Object Parameter is set to some valid default value say 123 and in addition to that, I add Filter expression [val1] = [ param (dot)1 ] in my MDO select query, then when I pass 123 from UI, I see the result and when I pass someother input I see empty table, however now I can see the columns with empty table.
Can someone tell me where I am going wrong?
    Any help is highly appreciated.

    Hi Michael,
I am using the ramup version 12.2 and want to explore all the new features available in 12.2 and came downloaded the example project of MII 12.2 avaiable here. while doing that I came across an example of onDemand MDO query for pulling the data from Tag quieries and making it dymanic by passing speed or quality or perfomance parameters, however it just showed me only quality results always, I coudn't test it properly because it was a tag query so I created my own scenario and it didnt work from UI as expected.
so wanted to know if I am going wrong somewhere before I conclud it is a bug.
