DS5.2 one server experiencing slow replication

I'm looking after a DS5.2 patch 4 environment comprising 12 Directory Servers (2 suppliers, 2 hubs, 8 consumers).
Everything is running fine except for 1 of the consumers experiences short periods of slow replication performance 3 or 4 times a day. All of the servers are built the same, using similar hardware and configuration - there are no obvious indications of stress on the server experiencing these sporadic problems, and it sits on the same network as another server that behaves perfectly.
The hub records the following error messages at the time of the problem:
[10/Jan/2008:16:08:19 +0000] - ERROR<8320> - Repl. Transport - conn=-1 op=-1 msgId=-1 - [S] End Failed with response: Consumer acks are missing (825)
[10/Jan/2008:16:08:19 +0000] - WARNING<10252> - Incremental Protocol - conn=-1 op=-1 msgId=-1 - Failed to end the current replication session [server5.host.co.uk:31314]
[10/Jan/2008:16:08:20 +0000] - WARNING<10289> - Repl. Transport - conn=-1 op=-1 msgId=-1 - Removing dependency op=1I've tried doing a full re-initialise of the data, but this didn't improve things.
Has anyone else seen this and can suggest how I might be able to track down the problem?

These errors and warning on the Supplier side (Hub) are mostly harmless. The only impact is that the last change will be resend when the replication session restarts.
Sometimes these errors are due to intermittent network errors (bad cables, misconfigured or defective routers... based on previous customer's experiences)
I've seen these messages with DS 5.2.x when the supplier sends a modification to a large static group. Or some other update that does require some processing.
You can troubleshoot this problem by looking at the consumer access and error logs. Identify the replication connection, and the last change done on this replication session (all replication sessions starts and ends with extended operations with distinct OIDs).
From the access log you will be able to determine the DN of the updated entry and the CSN of the change that could not be acknowledged. Usually, this should be enough to identify if it is a static group or a large entry.

One share on one server is slow

Hello All -
I have a Server 2008 R2 that is a VM. This server has multiple shares.
One share takes about 30-40 seconds to load in Win explorer. The share is to the root of E:\. All other shares work perfectly, including one that is a sub folder on e:\.
I have checked all hardware performance, and all is good. I have also checked the VM infrastructure (San's and ESX servers), and it all checked out.
I also checked for fragmentation, and all is good.
Any ideas?

The permissions are really simple. "Everyone" has full control. Working towards changing that.
I can browse any folders in the share quickly. I can also use the "run" box, and the auto complete can "browse" the share quickly.
I doubled check and there are not a lot of small files.
Oddly, I tried the share on a Win Xp, and the problem does not seem as bad.
I will work on coping the files to another directory and test it there.

ACE slowness issue when one server goes down

Hi,
We are having two application servers.Both are load balanced using ACE.
When we bring down one server, we find that when we upload some files into the second application server, its too slow.
But when primary server comes up again the performance increases.This issue happens only when we bring the primary server down.
We are using cookie based stickiness.Any ideas where we can look into.

Depending on the load-balancing algorithm or predictor that you configure, the ACE performs a series of checks and calculations to determine which server can best service each client request. The ACE bases server selection on several factors including the source or destination address, cookies, URLs, HTTP headers, or the server with the fewest connections with respect to load.

There have been a few reports on here where Corsair RAM seems to have caused users a lot of grief with crashes.
The recommendation on here, mostly, is to only buy RAM from macsales.com or crucial.com as they guarantee their modules will work and offer a no quibble lifetime guarantee.
I'd put the original RAM back in, return the Corsair chips for a refund and re-order from one of those two companies.

Taking snapshot of oracle tables to sql server using transactional replication is taking a long time

Hi All,
I am trying to replicate around 200 oracle tables onto sql server using transaction replication and it taking a long time i.e the initial snapshot is taking more than 24 hrs and it still going on.
Is there any way to replicate those these tables faster?

According to the description, I know the replication is working fine. But it is very slow.
1. Check the CPU usage on Oracle publisher and SQL Server. This issue may due to slow client processing (Oracle performance) or Network performance issues.
2. Based on SQL Server 2008 Books Online ‘Performance Tuning for Oracle Publishers’ (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms151179(SQL.100).aspx). You can enable the transaction
job set and follow the instructions based on

2. You can enable replication agent logging to check the replication behavior. You may follow these steps to collect them:
To enable Distribution Agent verbose logging. Please follow these steps:

c. Right click the job and choose Properties.
d. Select Steps tap, it should be like this:

Snow Leopard Server's slow connection when connected to AirPort Exteme

Hi,
I've been experiencing slow connections ever since I hooked up my Mac Pro server directly(via ethernet) to my AirPort Extreme. Previously, the Mac Pro is connected to a switch, the AE is connected to this switch as well. Everything's fine until we decided to connect the Mac Pro server to the AE directly. Now we are having slow connection and checking Network Utility, it shows that en0 is receiving errors when previously there is none. I have connected a client computer on the same cable and it receives no errors. It's just the server that's receiving these errors. To clarify thing up my server's network configuration is as follows:
IP address: 10.0.1.201
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Router: 10.0.1.1
DNS: 10.0.1.201
Search domain: example.net
I have configured my DNS server to use 10.0.1.1(AE's IP) as the Forwarder IP address so that my server and other client computers can still connect to the internet.
Checking the client computers connected on the same network, they are experiencing slow connections to the server as well.
There must be something that I need to set on this thing to make things work, any help would be much appreciated.

I forgot to check my cables. Apparently they have used crossed-cable for the previous Mac Pro to switch connection. After connecting the server to our AirPort Extreme things got a little sticky, using a straight cable did the trick.

How many databases on one server

I am trying to find out what a "best practice" is for sizing a server. We currently have an IBM P650 64GBmem and 8 CPU's (1.1ghz).
We run 34 Oracle Databases on this server (it is production). It is a mix of transactional databases and databases that are loaded via batch (sqlloader or some very long running pl/sql) ..
We are looking at a new P570, 5 CPU's 64gb mem. It is supposedly a faster machine. The intent is to keep the same number of production databases on it.
We have sporadic performaces issues ..
Is this type of configuration the norm .. Most database people prefer fewer databases on one server ? I am looking for opinions on this subject ..

Why? Do you lack CPU Power or is it because your IO System is to slow? It may also be possible, that a application kills you - do you know why you have performaces issues?

Is it possible to combine some databases (perhaps all OLTP and all OLAP Instances)into less datebase and only use different schemas? It's easier to maintain, less overhead for all the instances etc etc.

Did you already thing about physicaly partition this maschine? We are using Solaris 10 on various Sun Server and on one big sever 3,4 or 5 Solaris Container are running.

Anyone else experiencing slow charging with their Galaxy S4?

After updating my phone to kit kat some time ago, I've recently been experiencing slow charging issues. I plugged my phone in for about two hours and the battery went from 2%-48%. I continued to let it charge til 2a and it was only at 63%. It did eventually reach 100% but I don't understand why it's recently become an issue. I'm using the OEM charger and cable, tried plugging the AC adapter directly into a wall outlet, and even purchased a new battery.

Look at what it is charging at. The stock OEM one charges in the range of 1200-1800. I had the same issue and Samsung did something to mess with non OEM chargers. Is the charger you have the one that came with the phone or did you order it online as an "OEM" one?

How move apex from one server to another

Hi All,
I am just a beginner who has just started with APEX. Its strange but even though I am just a beginner I was given a task to move the current whole apex system from one server to another.
Can any one help what the steps do I need to follow to do this?
I also need to setup backup server to this new server so that in case this new server goes down, the backup one can be made productional.
I think I should move apex first then move the whole database. Is there any tool or some thing which can do it for me?

Hi,
what you are being asked to do would be a complex task for an experienced DBA, which, judging by the way you have asked the questions, you are not, no offence intended.
As far as I can see you have three options.
1. Hire a consultant/contractor with the necessary skills to perform the tasks.
2. Gain several years experience as an Oracle DBA, including Apex, backup and recovery and disaster recovery skills.
3. Look for a new job.
Sorry to sound facetious, but it is a ridiculous task you have been given assuming the skill and knowledge level you are coming from. Assuming you have not misrepresented yourself to your employer, this is not your fault and I think you need to seriously push back on your boss if possible.

Failure on one Server casues other to lock

          Greetings,
          I am running a WLS 6.1 sp2 cluster with 2 managed server instances on 2 W2K servers.
          When one server in the cluster fails (eg java.lang.OutOfMemoryError) and stops responding,
          the other server in the cluster will not respond to requests (as viewed on the console,
          request queue applet) until the failed server is restarted. Does anyone know why?

          I took many thread dumps, I took them out of the file because it was upward
          of 5M
          The dumps after the server stopped taking new requests didn't move, all of
          the thread dumps look the same as what I put into the zips. I can upload
          the full files if you like, but there are dumps from after startup, during
          the test run and after it was hung. It is hard to tell what is what other
          than the last few were from after the hung state.
          The reason there are some threads are waiting in our code (actually
          inetsoft's code) is because there is a syncronized method in their
          PDF generation code. It is 3rd party so we are not able to "fix" it.
          The server is really in a hung state. We can monitor all database activity,
          and at the point it no longer takes any new requests we see no database
          activity and we are unable to do a weblogic.Admin ping, or connect to the
          server instance in any way (directly to 7001 bypassing the proxy does NOT
          work either).
          We do not get the out of memory errors when we run with the hotspot server
          VM, however since there is a bug in the VM we are not able to take thread
          dumps running with it. We were forced to run with the classic VM during our
          tests to get good thread dumps, which cause our OOM errors since Xincgc
          and other memory options do not work with the classic VM.

CF 9 Enterprise - SQL Server 2008 SLOW

Hello all-
We've been running CF8 standard on a 32 bit Windows Server 2003 box. Everything is fine and dandy.
We are upgrading to CF9 Enterprise on a 64 bit Windows Server 2008 r2 box, but things are not going well.
Both of these servers are connecting to the same database, on the same SQL Server 2008 instance.
I am having some fairly serious slowdowns in our SQL queries on our new CF9 box. Queries that are taking 30 milliseconds on the old server, are taking 250+ milliseconds on the new server. This is happening between different databases, different queries, etc. This new server is just a whole lot slower when connecting to the exact same SQL Server.
I've pinged our database server from both CF servers- no difference. (Both are 0 ms)
The old server is running version 2000.86.3959 of the SQL Server driver (2/17/2007).
The new server is running version 6.01.7600.16385 (7/13/2009)
Any ideas as to what could be causing the slowdown?

I've never encountered this problem, I'm not using CF9 or SQL 20008; but here are some things to investigate.
1. Are there any differences in the way your datasources are configured in CF between the two servers. For example, do you have the "Maintain Connections" option enabled on one server's datasource, but not the other?
2. You might try using an alternate JDBC driver to see if this issue is caused by the drivers. Microsoft produces as JDBC driver for SQL server and I think there may be open source options.

I was experiencing slow downloading speeds

I was experiencing slow downloading speeds(13.68Mbps) so I called my ISP. The ISP tech asked me to disconnect the cable from the airport express & plug the cable directly into the iMac. When I ran the speed test again I got 40.34Mbps download speed. The tech said that was proof that the problem was with the Airport Express & not the modem. However, now I do not have WiFi. And now I am only getting an amber light on the Airport Express. Any suggestions on how to have WiFi without slowing downloading speeds? Note: Downloading speeds were good until this last week. Please help!

You suggest that I replace the Airport Express with an Airport Extreme: I do have an Airport Extreme in another room by our TV & Blu Ray to enable Netflix movies. A Mac Store technician set up the wireless system that way in 2010. Can I use 2 Airport Extremes instead?
Yes, that is no problem. I am guessing the Extreme is linking by wireless?? Or do you have ethernet between the Extreme and Express?
I am afraid of suggesting this, but I would consider just swapping the roles.. put the extreme on the modem.. and the express on the TV and bluray player.. and it will probably work fine.
What are speeds like to the Extreme on the TV? Does netflix play properly?
If you shut down the Extreme, does the speed get better on the computer?
Are you suggesting that the modem should be bypassed and the Express should be connected to the Mac by ethernet?
Not exactly.. you should already have an ethernet from modem to the express.. can you plug another ethernet express to the Mac.. assuming your Express has two ethernet and not just one.
"Try manually setting channels and forcing bands with different name." : I do not have any idea of how to do this.
Try the simple alternatives above. We can consider this as well if those don't work.
Do you have someone you could call easily and cheaply to try and sort the problems??
Otherwise buying a new AE is actually probably just as cheap as getting a technician in to look at it. Not that new equipment wrongly setup will work any better than old equipment wrongly setup.. but you have a month of free phone support from apple when you buy it new.

If your question is whether you can run multiple instances of WebLogic
          (or multiple applications) on one server, the answer is yes. The only
          problem is, you must have a unique port for each of the servers to run
          on. I.e., they can not all run under port 80 which has obvious
          internet/network implications.
          This also means you have multiple weblogic.properties files etc. for
          each instance.
          We do this with WL5.1 on a Linux 2.4 kernel in developement to allow
          multiple developers run their own instance on one box.
