DS6100 RAID Drive replaced but not rebuilding

Our DS6100 lost a 3Tb drive which was replaced under warranty but still shows Storage Degraded. Tech support sent another. Same issue. No instructions on how to configure. Tech never asked if I configured it and didn't offer any help. Also had boot drive fail on same machine. Installed new boot drive and it immediately started to rebuild. Found info about WD RAID storage utility from this forum. (THANKS GUYS). But drive shows unconfigured. Where does it get configured?

boot drives are set to auto rebuild.  Auto rebuild is disabled on the data drives. From the monitor tab of the dashboard go down to the drives and clcik configureThen I think, hard to figure out when my box does not have a missing drive but sorta kinda click on the "new" drive and click on operation,  There should be something there that says rebuild.  Or it may be you click on virtual disk 1 and find it in operation there Or call tech support.PS:  The raid config is already on the DS, you do not need to install anything

  • Hard Drive replacement does not let HP System Recovery execute.

I have a HP Pavillion HP3 (H8-1114) and I want to replace the hard drive on the machine. However when I try to run a System Recovery from the HP Recovery Dvd's I created using the HP software that came with the PC, it tells me that the Hard drive size does not match, and the recovery process fails. As much as I hate to say that I don't want to live off a bare Windows 7 Image, and drivers.
What I Am trying to do is: downgrade from the 1TB hard drive to a 250gb hard drive due to the fact that after using the computer for 2 years the Operating System has failed me more than 5 times, and rather than wiping the entire 1TB hard drive, I just wipe off the 250GB hard drive, reinstall from recovery discs, and when I have Windows up and running, then let apps know where everything is. (Example, I have Steam, and when ever I used to do restores on my old PC I just tell steam that certain games are located on another hard drive, Windows Libraries, {Music, Videos, Photos} etc. etc. etc.)
is this possible or AM I going to have to back files up and restore them everytime I have to do a system restore? What if the stock hard drive really fails and I can't install the operating system I bought with my HP computer into the new hard drive because it just won't do it? And is it possible to tell the recovery software to just use a partition in the hard drive instead of having to wipe the entire drive and continue the recovery process?

Since the HP Recovery discs will not install on a hard drive that is smaller then a predetermined size, I would consider recovering the HP OS (using the HP Recovery Discs) to a 1TB. After the OS is on the 1TB, it can be shrunk and "cloned" to your 250 GB hard drive. Once this is done and all the drivers are update and all the software is installed, you can create a "system image" that can be restored to the hard drive at a later date.
This way you don't have recover the OS, update the drivers, and install all your software everytime the system craps out on you.

  • [SOLVED] Toshiba 3.0 USB 2TB (HDTC720XK3C1) Assigned Drive Letter But Not Working

My external HD has 750gb of data that I cant access.  It shows up with a hard drive letter, but doesnt show like it used to (showing how much storage is used and unused) or showing it's assigned name.  It also doesnt work if I plug it into a different computer (does the same thing).  I cant remember if I properly removed it when I unplugged it last night when I finished using it, so that may be the cause.  I tried going to "manage drives" and uninstalling the drivers, but no luck.  Tried rebooting with it connected, no luck.  Tried unplugging for several hours and plugging back in, no luck.  I do not wish to reformat the drive because of the 750GB of data I'll lose.  Please help!

*****I FIXED IT!!!!!*******   I continued searching the web and found the fix.  All I needed to do was open the command prompt (cmd) and run this script "chkdsk /f E: (E: was the generic drive letter assigned).  Basically windows runs check disk and fixes the problem.  It also said you could try "chkdsk /r E:" but it worked on my first attempt.  Make sure you allow the computer enough time to finish.... It took a long time for it to completely finish.  (one way to know if it's done, you will be able to type in the cmd prompt again, if not, your computer is still working in the back ground)  After it was done, I ran my windows defender to check my removable drive for virus's and sure enough it found 3 threats.
I HOPE THIS HELPS ANYONE ELSE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM as it seems like a relatively easy fix, but over 80 people had read my plee for help with no response.

  • FCPX recognizes two hard drives independently, but not together

I have two WD hard drives that work fine with FCPX as long as only one drive is connected at a time.  If both drives are connected when I open FCPX, events and projects from both drives appear for a few seconds, but then FCPX loses connection with one drive.  If I unmount that drive from the computer and reconnect it while FCPX is still open, the program sees it and I have access to events and projects on both drives at once.  That works fine until I close and restart FCPX. I have read other posts and tried to address issues that others have had in similar situations.  One the drives is named “My Book 1” and the other is “My Book 2”.  They are both formatted OS Extended (Journaled) and “Ignore ownership on this volume” is checked.  They are connected via FW800.   There are no files in the root level directory labeled video, private, or anything that could be confused with a camera.  When both drives are connected at the same time, it appears random which drive Final Cut will recognize each time it opens.  I also have a G-Drive that is unaffected.  When all three drives are connected, it is always one of the WD drives that gets dropped.

Every physical volume or partitions on volumes are treated as distinctly mounted disks.  You could set up JBOD "raid" but it's probably an over complication.
By the way, pressing the option key while dragging something in the finder will move the item instead of copying it.
Generally most applications can be placed anywhere you want them.  Very few insist on being in /Applications (althought there are some).  But it is not advisable to move any of the apple provided applications out of /Applications since that is where apple supplied updaters will look for them.

  • Mini boots with new cloned drive externally, but not internally.

    Hi.
I bought a new, bigger and faster HD for my early 2009 Mac mini (10.8.2) and cloned my original drive with Carbon Copy Cloner, making sure to include the hidden recovery partition. Using a USB to SATA adapter, I can boot from the new drive no problem. However, when I open up the mini and replace the old drive with the new one, all I get is the folder with question mark that blinks. I've tried holding down option when rebooting to get to the recovery partition, but all I get is the WiFi log in, no drives or any other options to choose from. If my Time Machine drive is connected, that does appear but fails to do anything if I click on it. (When the old drive is in, I can access the new drive just fine, and can even boot into the new drive's recovery mode.) Is there some step I'm missing, or some troubleshooting I can do that I'm not aware of?
    Thanks.

It sounds as though the connector for your drive didn't get seated properly.
If by that you mean it wasn't secure inside the computer, you could be right, but I pulled the drive in and out three separate times as I opened and closed the machine to exchange the old and new drives a few times and always tried to make sure it was nice and snug in there.
    Thanks for the response.

  • Combo / Optical Drive detected but not reading CD & DVD

    Hi everyone,
Firstly, I apologize if this topic has been covered but I've searched up and down and couldn't find it.
    I'm running the following computer:
    G4 MDD Dual 1.42Ghz, 1Gb RAM, OS 10.4
My computer has been dormant for about a month now and last night I fired it up with the following problem: _Grey screen with spinning 'loading' icon and it wouldn't get into the desktop_
I managed to successfully boot to the desktop after I did a combination of the following:
    1. Reboot in Safe Mode (Shift)
    2. Reset NVRAM (Opt + Cmd + O + F)
    3. Reset PRAM (Opt + Cmd + P + R)
    4. Removed all 3rd party cables
I haven't used the Combo/Optical Drive for about a month now and I decided that maybe I should re-install Tiger. When I inserted the Installer CD, the Combo Drive (1st slot) just ignored it. Initially, Superdrive (2nd slot) also ignores all discs I inserted. After countless restarts, I managed to get the Superdrive to read the G4 Hardware Test CD.
    I've done the following:
    1. Finder preference is set to not ignore inserted media
    2. Tinkered with the Optical drive by unplugging and plugging it back
    3. Everything else I could find on the internet regarding troubleshooting it
    4. Made sure that the cables are connected properly inside the computer
    5. Ran the Apple Hardware Test CD and everything is OK.
    6. Checked with the System Profiler and it detects both Optical Drives (1st slot = Combo Drive, 2nd slot = Superdrive).
    Now the problem is:
    1. Combo Drive does not read any inserted disc (CD & DVD)
    2. Superdrive reads but spits them out soon after
    3. I can't re-install Tiger
Any advice / suggestions is very much appreciated.

    Hi David,
My computer has been dormant for about a month
Have you checked the PRAM Battery, they can cause strange things & last 4+5 years...
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/BAA36VPRAM/
Combo Drive does not read any inserted disc (CD & DVD)
Opticals do go out, but 2 at once doesn't seem likely. What happens if you open Disk Utility then insert a Disc?
Have you tried a Cleaner CD in them?

  • USB/Firewire/DVD drives working but not showing up on my desktop after firmware update

I just updated my 15inch Macbook Pro (early 2011) to the latest firmware patch and now none of my external hard drives, flash drives, or DVDs are showing up on my desktop. I can still access all of the files from the side bar in a finder window (and play movies in DVD player, etc). This was not a problem before I updated my computer about an hour ago.  I already tried restarting it and that did nothing.  I went into disk utility and tried repairing the drives but it claims there is nothing wrong with them.  In sum, everything is functioning properly, but nothing is showing up on my desktop.
Does anyone have any insight as to why this may be and/or any solutions to the problem?

In Finder "Go" menu hold the option key and choose Library. Then go to Preferences trash these two files:
    com.apple.finder.plist
    com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
Then, restart.(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)

  • USB Flash Drive Powered but Not Mounting

I have two USB flash drives that refuse to mount on my 13" MacBook Pro running 10.6.7.
The flash drive powers on, and blinks a bit.
The drive shows up in Disk Utility but the volumes are listed generically (like disk1s2) rather than having their proper volume name.
Clicking the mount button with a colume selected appears ineffective.
Trying to eject the drive results in:
The disk “Kingston DataTraveler 200 Media” could not be unmounted.
    Ideas
Pulling the drive out without ejecting crashes Disk Utility.  The Disk Utility Log doesn't say anything helpful.
I have two drives I've tried, opne the Kingston above which has two HFS+J volumes and another one formatted FAT32.  Both drives work great on a different MacBook.  I don't have other drives on hand to test at the moment.
I have MacFUSE and NTFS-3G and Parallels 6, installed, I haven't tried disabling them yet.  Anyone else experiencing similar issues?  Figured it out yet? Ideas?

Just so you don't think you're alone, I've been having the same problem, but with firewire devices. I'm searching around to see if there's a solution. I re-ran the 10.4.3 combo updater and it seemed to "fix" things for a while, but now the problem is back. I was in the middle of a copy from a FW CD-drive and it just disconnected. Then the iMac disconnected a hard drive attached to the other FW port. So it's happening on both ports, even when the computer is actively engaged in something.
I'm going to run the updater again. Then I might try downgrading to 10.4.2.

  • External hard drive works, but not with a docking station

    hello,
I'm finding it difficult to use my docking station with my WD Cavier Green 2TB hard drive.
I know that the hard drive is in perfect working order as it still works with my many different leads and cables i have. But when i plug it in to my docking station i get the "unable to read' message.
I've checked disk ultility and the hard drive is there but the second name down reads disk1s1 and is greyed out.
I've read through the countless discussions and opend the ownership (when i plug it in with my many cables) but when i use the dock it claims there's no ownership.
I've tried verifying and repairing but an error message appears.
I've tried turning off the hard drive and docking station and turning it back on.
    I've tried restarting my comuter.
And i've tried using a different cable.
it just seems odd that a docking station could stop my hard drive being recognised yet plugging it with many cables is fine.
Is it simply a case of my hard drive not being fully compatible with the docking station? or am i missing something?
    Below is all my specs.
    MacBook Pro
    Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5
    Hard drive
    Western digital Caviar Green

Hello, I am having a similiar problem. I had an old MacBook that died so I took out the partitioned HDD and put it in an enclosure. The other day I plugged it into my other MacBook and both HDDs appeared (Mac and Bootcamp) but today only Bootcamp will appear. When I run the commands recommended above, I get this:
It appears as if there are two traditional hard drives? The first and second line? I'm not very Mac savvy so I don't know how to use the chflagg command to make these visible. Ultimately, I want to complete wipe this entire HDD (partition included) so I can have it fresh. Can anyone advise on how to make the Mac partition visible or how to complete wipe it and start fresh?
    Thanks!

  • Drives burning, but not recognizing burned disk

I've been burning some DVD disks lately, to make room on my hard drive. When I burn the disks (I am using the system software) they show up on my desktop, and are searchable... as long as I don't eject them. once I eject the disk and reinsert it, it shows up as a blank CD. FYI- I'm using burn folders, and I can see that the disk has been written on. Oddly, this happened to both drives at the same time, so I don't think it's a hardware issue. A re-start did not resolve the issue.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Bruce

Unfortunately i have no advice, but i am having the same issue... perhaps.
Just recently i've had DVD player report that a couple of DVD's were the wrong region, though both drive and discs were region 1. I have an old external DVD drive and they played fine from that.
Then i tried to mount an archival disk written a few months ago and it read as blank. The external drive also read that. I wrote new copies of the archive, one with Toast and one with Disk Utility.
Both wrote, verified, and mounted on the desktop, but as soon as they had been ejected and put back in, the OS reported i had inserted "a blank DVD".
Until i read that you had the problem on two drives, i assumed it must be hardware.
It now seems that anything i write with the built-in drive exhibits the same behavior.

  • Firewire Drive Recognized, but not Mounting

Hi all - I have a peculiar problem with my iMac as it is not mounting anything Firewire.  System Profiler recognizes there is something attached via Firewire, it even displays the information about it, but there is no disk to be accessed.
Also, the iMac can successfully work in Target Disk mode on another computer, but so far won't recognize an external hard drive (WD 2TB) or MacBook in Target Disk mode.  Also, I only have a Firewire 400 cable to use, and the computer recognized and mounts the drive using USB 2.0.
Any suggestions?  I've already tried resetting the SMC and PRAM...  Not sure what I'm up against now...
    Thank you!
    -Kevin Cramblet

You saying the external drive works with USB and doesn't with FW and you only have a FW400 cable?  I assume your mac uses FW800.  FW800 requires a 9-pin connector.  FW400 a 6-pin.  Cables and adapters exist to go from 9-pin to 6-pin.  But I don't think plugging a 6-pin FW400 cable into 9-pin FW800 socket will work.  That's probably your problem.
