DSEE 6.3 installation questions/problems

1) The DSEE 6.3 installation guide explains that to install DSEE 6.3, one has to install DSEE 6.2, then upgrade the shared components and then install the DSEE 6.3 patch. It looks crazy not to be able to install 6.3 from scratch.
And I don't understand why there's a 6.3 full native installation available for download, as well as a patch install ?

Anyway, I tried to install DSEE 6.3 from scratch with the native packages full distribution on RHAS 4U6, and
get an error: the installation was successful even if the sun-ldap-console-gui rpm failed to install, accordign to the installation logs.
I have had to manually edit the /etc/opt/webconsole/console/config.properties and correctly set the java_home & java_help variables, then remove the package and install it again . (these variables were set to unexisting directories)
Known bug ?

When the /tmp filesystem is mounted with the -noexec flag (it's not my choice but my customer's one), the DSEE 6.3 installer script fails as it tries to execute some scripts from /tmp. RFE ?

The 1st time I ran the installer, I only installed the directory packages. Then, I ran the installer again to install DPS. The installation was successful, without any error but I noticed it replaced my /etc/opt/webconsole/console/config.properties file with the default one, which caused problems later.
For example, it prevented the Web Console from starting.
Known bug too ?

I use the native package installer java_es-5u1-identsuite-ga-linux-x86.zip. (I only use the zip install for the dsrk for example).
Important... Install all directory items whether you need them or not.
Set up dscc.
dsccsetup initialize
/opt/sun/dscc6/bin/dsccsetup initialize
Start consoles, login and make sure its working.
/opt/sun/ds6/bin/dsadm start /var/opt/sun/dscc6/dcc/ads
/usr/sbin/smcwebserver start
/opt/sun/cacao/bin/cacaoadm start
At this point I create a ds instance with unprivileged user, but I dont think its a necessary step for upgrade patch.
/opt/sun/ds6/bin/dsadm create -u carson -g carson -p 1389 -P 1636 /opt/ds
Stop all servers. Stop all consoles. Apply patch 125309-07 by running the install.
You can check version on the instance.
cd /opt/sun/ds6/lib
./ns-slapd -V -D /opt/ds

As the problem has returned with the newest version of the toolbar, I thought I would start a new thread using my last post to the above thread .
In fairness I thought the problem had been sorted as a patch was issued for V:8.1.0.51, Build: 2009.9.20.2, so maybe the thread was no longer watched.
To my amazement, this patch has not been incorporated in the latest version. Quite frankly I'm gobsmacked at the incompetence. Anyway, here it is:
Have just installed the latest version of the BT Toolbar:
V:8.3.3.42
Build: 2010.11.15.1
Although I had ticked "Automatically download and install toolbar updates" in my old version, I only found out about the new version by reading a post in "Answers". The links below refer to older "7" versions but following the links I came accross "download latest version" and discovered V:8.3.3.42. So it appears that the auto-update facility doesn't work either!

Guess what? After a shut down and reboot, I had to sign in with my Windows Live ID - AGAIN!
It would appear that the patch released to cure this problem in the old version has not been incorporated in the new version.
Stroll on. I find it hard to believe that the newest version has been released with the same error!!!!!!

Below is the post that explained the original problem. Although the numbers of the HKEY_USERS are slightly different now (HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-73586283-879983540-1606980848-1011), the problem remains the same. The toolbar installer changes AppData to =%AppData% instead of =%USERPROFILE%\Application Data.
And I quote:
"When Yahoo toolbar gets installed it sets the following registry value:
[HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-796845957-926492609-725345543-1003\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Exp lorer\User Shell Folders]
AppData = %AppData%
The problem here is AppData should actually be the following
AppData = %USERPROFILE%\Application Data
So when MSN or other apps that use that registry key go to save their data it gets lost.
So the solution is simple, run regedit and go to
[HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-796845957-926492609-725345543-1003\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Exp lorer\User Shell Folders]
and set the value AppData to a data value of %USERPROFILE%\Application Data"

I fear that you are trying to download OLDER Software on a newer Operating Sysytem Meaning that you need to Install the Latest Version of Adobe on the Newer Operating System for it to work Properly. Be sure to always check the minimum System Requirements.

I bought the Toshiba TV 40TL938 french version ( 40TL938F ), in an online store.
I have a few question / problem, and i hope you could help me.
- when i play MKV vido files via USB, integrated subtitles works well but for me they are too small, too thin and too white. Can i make them biger, larger and with a black shadow around it ? if yes, how could i do this ?
- when i play MKV vido files via DLNA (with XBMC), there is no subtitles anymore. Whose fault is it ? my TV ? XBMC ? do you how i can fix this ?
- does anybody know if DTS will be supported sooner or later on 2012 toshiba TV models such as my 40TL938

I saw this but there is no way to change the subtitle setting.
In "subtitle type" the only thing i can do is to swich from "normal" to "deaf and hearing impaired" ("sourd et malentendant" in french).
So i guess i will have to get used to it

DTS is an audio format, such as AC3 or mp4. This TV doesn't support DTS, so when i play movie (such as MKV file) with audio in DTS, there is no sound (but the video is ok).

Photoshop Elements 10 Installation Question

How can I tell if my software installed properly? The software came with three discs, and it only installed the first disc. I am new to Photoshop, and do not know if my software installed properly? Can anyone help?

Thank you for your quick replies. I have checked,and my OS is indeed 64 bit. I have been using the 32 bit version of Adobe Photoshop Elements 10, since I installed it last evening. I have a few quick questions;
Will I loose any functionality if I stay with the 32 bit version versus un-installing and installing the 64 bit version from disc 2?
If I decide to un-install, and re-install from disc 2, will there be any software registration issues (as I have already registered the software)?

We are looking to install Documaker 12.3 Enterprise Edition and have the following installation questions:
When installing Documaker can we have our own VM in our own OU for the WAS application servers? This will make maintenance easier on our side. There doesn’t seem to be anything in the documentation saying this is a good or a bad idea.

Is it possible to use our existing scripting environment to build the necessary pieces instead of using scripts from the documaker install? If it’s not possible, can we get a look at the documaker scripts before we run them?
We would like to know if WAS 8.5 is supported, or if version 7.0.0.27 in the requirements pdf is the only version supported?

The typical installation scenario is to have 3 tiers - application (WAS), application (Documaker), and data. WAS tiers host web applications (Dashboard, Administrator, Interactive) as well as providing database connection pools and JMS queues for messaging - it is expected that the WAS environment is a clustered environment and that the applications are deployed to the cluster members, which can be physical or virtual. For the Documaker application server, these can be physical or virtual as well. It's recommended to install Documaker on single-purposes environments, however there's nothing to prevent you from doing otherwise. The Documaker applications are self-contained JVMs and can be tuned accordingly.

The installation process (currently) writes the scripts according to responses provided during the installation process. The scripts can be reviewed/modified prior to execution.

The official supported version of WAS is 7.0.0.27, however WAS 8.5 may be suitable (I believe there might be a fix pack requirement there - would recommend you submit a question to Oracle Support for verification).

just tried to update the Flash Player to the newest version. However, the installers provided at this site (http://get.adobe.com/de/flashplayer) seem to work improperly. On my 64-bit Win 7 Pro system all works fine, but on my laptop (32-bit Win 7 Pro) it keeps saying "Installation encountered problems. An error occured. Close this window and start download again." This happens with both the Firefox and IE installer.
I managed to update FP with the offline installers, but I'm interested in the reason anyway. Is it a broken installer, is it a configuration problem of my laptop, or is it another problem? Would be very happy if anyone knows about this issue!

Usually, it's a firewall problem with the "downloader/installer". I always use the offline installers to avoid any bundled software.

I've recently purchased Sun's Solaris 8 OE media kit 2/02.
I tried installing them on two computers and experienced the following problems:
On my Pentium 3, I get the following messages when during the first steps of installation:

However, if anyone understands what the above means, its implications or other important information, I'd like to hear it and its workarounds if any.
On my newly purchased Pentium 4, I had to first remove my Ethernet card to prevent system boots during installation. My problem is that I have some hardware conflicts.
I have a "15 LCD monitor from LG.
Display adapters: ASUS vn179 DDR v28.32
GeForce 4 MX 440 64 MB BV17 Internal (MV)
I think that these two are causing the problem.
As a result, I cannot install Solaris with the windowing system.
I cannot see these types when choosing hardware devices.
Please advise on this matter.

Am I doomed with this computer not having Solaris on it?
Last is a matter of Solaris residing on a single harddisk with other OS.
I want to have Solaris, Redhat Linux 7.3 and Windows XP Professional.
In what order should I install the OSs?
Is it recommended to make partitions before any of the above installations take place?
Which OS should go into each partition if it makes a difference?

I'm a total newbie to Solaris and plan doing some Java programming on it.
So using a GUI is absolutely essential to me.

You can install UPK server with WS 2008 R2 SP1 without any issues(may it be standard or enterprise edn.). Oracle database 11.2.0.4 can be used as well.
You can refer the installation guide for version 12.1 incase you have any queries.
You would only need to open the database port(eg 1527) or so on the subject server. There are no other specific port opening requirement on the firewall (port 80 must be open as well, but mostly it is not blocked on servers).

I'm looking into the possibility of distributing an application with Adobe AIR and I've a few questions about the Adobe AIR installation process. Just to give you some background on the situation I'm in - if a user wants to use the service I'm working on, they need to install a binary application on their computer. We've a web site which communicates with this binary application. As the user as to install the binary application to begin with, we're beginning to look at AIR as a possible alternative to distributing the web content through a browser.
1. Adobe AIR installation requests that the user enters their computer password. Is there any way to retrieve this password from a separate installer? The binary application that we ask our users to install asks the user for their password and it would be nice to not ask the user to enter their password twice. Are there any possibilities for sharing this password between our binary application and the Adobe AIR installer?
2. If I sign up as a re-distributer of AIR, is the Adobe EULA which is displayed at the start of installation still necessary? I'm already displaying one EULA (with the binary application) and I'd prefer not to have to display two.
3. I'm assuming that there is no way to specify the directory into which I'd like the Adobe AIR runtime to be placed - can you confirm that Adobe AIR is always installed in the /Applications folder on mac and c:/Program Files on Windows?
This question goes out to Adobe AIR developers - If you have distributed your application with Adobe AIR, have you ever stumbled across the situation where a user has uninstalled the Adobe AIR runtime (either intentionally or unintentionally) and you are now left in a situation where a user cannot access your services because Adobe AIR is not installed on their computer. If so, are you aware of any usable fallbacks other than to tell customers that they have to have Adobe AIR installed to run the application?

1: We are working on a method to use a local socket to communicate with an installed c# application on the users machine. The situation is very similar, however we store credentials encrypted and accessible to the installed binary. If those credentials do not exist the AIR app requests the user to input them and they are sent to the binary. These credentials are stored either per session, daily or forever per the user's preferences. We use this method to let AIR be the front end it was designed to be and leave all the heavy lifting OS / processor wise to the binary. 2: The EULA is still required as the End User has to accept it. If there's a way around that, I'm not aware.
3: The installation directory can be changed by the user unless you are performing silent installs (available when you sign a redistribution agreement). I don't recommend relying on the installation directory never changing.

4: I've faced the problem where the AIR runtime is not available, but we always fall back on the badge there. For what it's worth it's pretty handy at detecting requirements and getting them to the user.

I strongly recommend that you use a password for each login account but primarily for your admin account which will also be required when installing any software that uses an installer and/or for something being installed to the root directory of the hard drive such as a virus would likely require. If you are ever prompted for your admin password out of the blue to install anything without purposely trying to install anything, you should always decline which not having an admin password negates.
Many single users of a Mac have an admin account (obviously and required) but create a login account without admin privileges for every day use as added security.
Besides turning on the built-in Firewall, do not enable any services/ports that you don't need or regularly use and select all options via the Advanced button under the Firewall tab.

Bootcamp Installation Shutdown Problem

I'm having a problem when installing Windows. After it is done doing the setup, my computer automatically shuts down. The first time I tried it I got to the formatting the disk part, but after re-partitioning the drive and doing it again, I can only get past the setup. It is also an OEM version of Windows, which I read on many discussions doesn't matter. If that's the case then what the **** is the problem!?

OEM versions work fine with Boot Camp provided it is not the CD that comes with a previously bought computer (DELL, Gateway Etc). These OEM CDs will also have validation issues.
One Question, which version of windows are you trying to install? If it is windows XP then is it the windows XPSP2 version on a single installation disk?
