See above - I do not want to be the first one.
W. PrindlI had a very bad experience migrating a simple file server from OES2SP3
32-bit to OES11 (without SP).
So I am a little bit cautious.
I want to migrate a single DC DSfW server (OES2SP3 32-bit) in a multi
server edir tree to a new OES11SP1 server. The only thing which runs in
addition to DSfW on this server is an iprint server, which shall be
migrated, too.

Installation from DsfW aborted

Hi Cgreiner,
Currently it is not possible to upgrade from edirectory to DSfW. DSfW can only be installed on plain sles(sles11sp3 for oes11sp2).

Installing DsFW for the First Time, new tree?
I've been reading the documentation but there is some stuff I don't get.
It seems I can install into a new tree and choose the non-name-mapped deployment. Is this a popular choice?
Does this provide flexibility or limit it?
I read the following statement "Novell doesn't support installing other Novell products within a Domain Services for Windows (DSfW) partition." at Novell Doc: OES 11 SP1: Domain Services for Windows Administration Guide - Unsupported Service Combinations
I think that if I choose a non-name-mapped install then the entire new eDirectory tree will live inside the DSfW partition, or was that statement meant for name-mapped setups? Does that mean that we would not be able to install ZenWorks, Filr or GroupWise into the new tree? If true this suggests non-name-mapped setups are more limiting than name-mapped setups, and probably to be avoided.
Thanks for the free wisdom.
Background:
There is an existing Netware server 6.0 serving about 20 users as a file server but there doesn't appear to be any interest in migration or coexistance. A fresh clean tree is a core element of the plan so far. I'm thinking of three or four OES servers: Two DSfW servers (DHCP, DNS, eDir, domain controllers, SLP), a file server and a Filr server.
There is other stuff in the environment, including openSUSE DHCP and DNS, SLES application server, various other servers for databases and web stuff, Windows domain for 4 users to use Remote Desktop Services. A bunch of Windows desktops and a proliferation of mobile devices (hence interest in Filr is drive the change right now).
Hopefully over time the other servers will be part of the new eDirectory tree for authentication and ease of management.
If I choose a name-mapped setup, I think I need to install 4 or 5 servers: one eDirectory base server (Certificate Server and root partition), then at least one DSfW server (DHCP, DNS, eDir, domain controller), then file server and Filr server.Originally Posted by psahukar
Hi,
...snip...
1. Install OES CIFS server on the first server. This will give a new eDirectory tree with a file server.
2. Install 2 DSfW servers (using name mapped mode) into the eDirectory tree. You have the option to choose the top most container (i.e. whole tree) or a partition for the DSfW installation / configuration. DSfW will install DNS service on the first DSfW server by default. It is recommended to keep the DHCP server on a non-DSfW server.
3. Install the Filr server on the fourth server
Thanks for the recommendations, Pavreen.
Please confirm the main message you are conveying is that a name-mapped installating is best. Is it true that the reason this is best is to allow other Novell products (ZenWorks, for example) to be installed? Is it also true that non-name-mapped installs are rare and offer few (if any) advantages?
When you say, with respect to the DSfW servers, that I have the option to install DSfW using the top-most container, are you recommending that the second server be a DSfW server with DSfW in the top of the tree? This seems to be the thing that is against the rules according to Novell Doc: OES 11 SP1: Domain Services for Windows Administration Guide - Unsupported Service Combinations "Novell doesn't support installing other Novell products within a Domain Services for Windows (DSfW) partition." But it also the thing I'm sure I don't understand (and hence the post).
In my reading I didn't encounter a hint that DHCP should be separate from DSfW. DHCP conflicts with DSfW specifically or it introduces challenges more generally with other OES components?
The number of servers (all Xen PV on SLES) will be chosen to accomodate flexibility. So I think I will not make the CIFS server the first. The first server will be the permanent "Novell Certificate Server" and I think I should make that small and simple to be sure that future upgrades or restore operations are less likely to create challenges for such a critical, and seemingly inflexibly permanent, piece of eDirectory infrastructure.
What do you think of this modification to your recommendation:
1. First server is OES Novell eDirectory "Novell Certificate Server" + DHCP + iManager
2. Then two DSfW servers (DNS). Necessarily name-mapped. The partition question, which was the thing I was least certain about, is still uncertain to me.
3. Then one file server (NSS, CIFS and NCP). I'm also inclined to have a second DHCP as backup.
4. Then one Filr
5. Then probably a ZenWorks server in the further future -
LDAP multidirectory with sub-domains
Hi,
i have some difficulties using LDAP COM object that comes with the IP phone Services SDK. I would like to search the whole AD, which has multiple subdomains. I would like to search the whole directory structure, with the base: DC=company, DC=country, without specifying any particular OU. However, the connection with this kind of directory base configuration fails (the COM object is not created), so i can not search the whole directory, only specific OUs. Is there any way to achieve searching the whole directory structure?

Hello to the commmunity!
I have been done with our it-partners a DSfW-Setup. There are two OES2 Domain-Controllers which holds the "main-domain". Connected to this "main-domain" were two configured sub-domains (OES2, too). They have been setup virtually (VMWare). And there is the problem with our DSfW-Installation. If the VPN-tunnel (the sub-domains are connected through) is broken or I reboot the first "main-domain"-Controller, all the sub's didn't work. I mean, the don't reboot, but they have no "domain-functionality". I have seen, that the all the controllers make a (I guess) LDAP-connection to the first installed OES2 Domain-Controller. I don't know why. Is this normal? Can I change this?
What I have to say is, that we connected to each (Sub-)Domain through a trust or a forrest a real MS AD. We put our workstations into the real AD and through the trust or forrest we get the users from eDir or DSfW.
As I know no one has a construct like our company here in Austria, so nobody could help me. Maybe the community does!
With kindest regards
Hans-Christian Wssner
Hi,
When the VPN tunnel is broken or the first domain controller of the DSfW parent (first) domain is down, is the complete of eDirectory tree (all the partitions) still available (reachable)to the domain controllers of the DSfW sub-domains (child domains). You can place additional read-write replicas on the other DCs (for the partitions that are missing) if the complete eDirectory tree is not available when one of the above two conditions occur.

I have a 10.5.8 os and need the simplified Chinese languag pack which I have not been able to download. It says I need an update installer which I cannot find as well/ or one that will work. Any suggestions?
Are you sure it is not already there? In system preferences/international/language, don't you see simplified Chinese on the list? It is supposed to be there. You just move it to the top and restart to put the OS into that language.
Missing language packs can also normally be installed by running the Language Translations installers found in the OptionalInstalls.mpkg of the Leopard DVD. -
I prefer to do clean installs of each new OS X version (and I am aware of the debate whether that is necessary or not; it's just something I prefer to do).
To simplify this, I have been thinking of partitioning my Macbook's SSD into two volumes, one smaller for OS X and one larger for my user folder. The user volume would hold the usual stuff like images, music, document and settings, plus any software I install myself.
I use "Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended Student and Teacher Edition". I am now wondering if, were I to point the CS6 installer to the Applications subfolder in my user folder, everything will be placed there or will the installer place files also on the OS X volume? If the former is true, then I should be able to wipe the OS X volume as necessary to do a fresh install, but if the latter is the case, then I would break the CS6 installation when I wipe the OS X volume.
If the above doesn't work, are there any other ways to install CS6 to simplify future clean installs of OS X?
Sorry for the newbie questions and many thanks in advance for your help

I would recommend inquiring more regarding the syncing of settings in the respective forums for those applications. You can find a list of available forums at https://forums.adobe.com/welcome. Installation problem on Ubuntu 8.04
When I tried to install SJSWS7 on Ubuntu 8.04 (Chinese Simplified), words on the installation windows are all unreadable words (except for the English characters). Please tell me what I can do!
Thanks.
Owento sandycn: You are really a treasure Sandy!!!! Thanks a lot. Last night I used your way and it really worked! ^o^
to joe.mccabe: Your solution, I believe, will work too! I'll write down both you and Sandy's suggestion and for further reference!! But I really want to know what is the default font used in WS7? I have several Chinese fonts installed in my Ubuntu 8.04, but you see none is right for WS7! Not every people is an expert for WS7, someone might be just learning how to use WS, so I believe we can make it easier for beginners!!! Or maybe all these have been written in the distribution document and I didn't find them! :-(((((((
By the way, where can I find a handbook on how to use Netbeans6.5? My feeling is that the Java language is difficult to learn, and the IDE is also something we should learn thoroughly if we want learn Java really well! There are a lot of things written for Java, but nowhere can I find a document about how to use the IDE! The online help is not really so helpful, and the infomation provided in the Netbeans6.5 HELP is not very complete!
The problem I encountered now is: I'm trying to write a small application for looking up phone numbers. The phone numbers are listed in a CSV file. The problem is where I should put the CSV file and how to access it! (I'm using the Netbeans IDE, and the application I'm doing on is a desktop application)
I guess the solution must be quite easy, but I just cann't find any document to tell me the way!

user605023I'm facing the same error message while install Siebel 8.0 on OEL. But before I had this ksh problem, it complains about disc space first, and I actually has plenty of disk space under the directory (it needs only 0.7 G and I have 17G free). Anybody has encountered such problem before?

Installer error "Directory can't be written to" errorID=5006
We have another installation issue from one of our customers, and this is the only incident of this error we've ever seen. here is what she says:
"I get to the Air installation and approval to install on the computer step and then the progress bar on the AIR installer just never registers. "
Her log file shows two other AIR programs installing without issue, so I am surprised this isn't working. Please see the full log below.
Any suggestions are welcome!

Oracle 11g R2 Client Silent Installation Issue (PATH) Windows 7 x86
Hi All,
I'm hoping somebody can shed some light on this issue.
I created a Response file using the 'Save Response File' method during an interactive installation on a Windows 7 Enterprise x86 client. (file enclosed)
I have installed it multiple times now with multiple permutations of the command line (got caught out by the old lower case F in responseFile) but now I'm getting the same error each time (a critical error with the PATH according to the installation log). There is nothing wrong with the path length as the installation works fine in GUI mode and passes the Prereq check.
I launch the command line to install (with Run As Administrator) - "[location of setup.exe]\setup.exe" -nowait -silent -responseFile "[location of response file]\Oracle11gv2.rsp"

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 Custom Installation
Copy from OTN Note
Start
Oracle 10g is certified to run the base release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 (Advanced Server and Enterprise Server) without updates. If you have update CDs, you can use the boot CD from the update instead of the boot CD from the base release to automatically apply all updates during the installation. All updates from Red Hat are supported by Oracle.
1. Boot the server using the first CD.

- 100MB /boot partition
-1,500MB swap partitionâSet this to at least twice the amount of RAM in the system but to no more than 2GB (32-bit systems do not support swap files larger than 2GB). If you need more than 2GB of swap space, create multiple swap partitions.
-7,150MB root partitionâ This partition will be used for everything, including /usr, /tmp, /var, /opt, /home, and more. This was done purely to simplify installation for the purposes of this guide. A more robust partitioning scheme would separate these directories onto separate filesystems.

Installation of OracleAS 10g on Red Hat Linux ES 3.0
Installation of Oracle AS 10g on RedHat ES 3.0
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3
Copy from OTN Note
Start
Oracle 10g is certified to run the base release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 (Advanced Server and Enterprise Server) without updates. If you have update CDs, you can use the boot CD from the update instead of the boot CD from the base release to automatically apply all updates during the installation. All updates from Red Hat are supported by Oracle.
1. Boot the server using the first CD.
o You may need to change your BIOS settings to allow booting from the CD.
2. The boot screen appears with the boot: prompt at the bottom of the screen.
o Select Enter to continue with a graphical install on the console. (For other installation methods and options, refer to the Red Hat Installation Guide.)
o The installer scans your hardware, briefly displays the Red Hat splash screen, and then begins a series of screen prompts.

Boot Camp: iMac displays a black screen during installation of Windows 7 - Apple Support
I have followed each of the steps listed in the link above with no success.
Prior to adding the extra drivers I was able to start the Windows install process up to reformatting the "Windows" Bootcamp drive. After that the computer would go through some instal processes and eventually restart. After the restart the screen would go black. The black screen lead me to the Apple Support link above dated March 5 2015. After going through steps listed in the link above, I get an error message stating that the D:\Sources\instal.win. file cannot be located. I am forced to restart the computer at that point and theWindows install process attempts to start again but always ends up at the same point.
Note: I am installing windows 7 Pro from a DVD. I scanned the AutoUnattend.xml file and noticed that it refers to "Windows 7 ULTIMATE" but not "Pro" or any others that I could see. (see below). Could that be part of the issue?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

The W7-Professional .clg will have 5 entries, with 'Y','Y','N','Y','Y'.
The W7-Home Premium .clg will have 5 entries, with 'Y','Y','N','N','Y'.
The W7-Home Basic .clg file will have 5 entries, with 'Y','Y','N','N','N'.
This allows a single .wim Image file on the DVD media to be used to install any of the 5 flavors of Windows. When you enter your product key, the Installer knows what specific W7 variant you have the key for and will tell the WIM to extract the specific files the installer needs to be extracted.
The following line
<cpi:offlineImage cpi:source="wim:d:/sources/install.wim#Windows 7 ULTIMATE" xmlns:cpi="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:cpi" />
is telling that a retail product key will be entered, which should go look for this specific .clg file (from the five you already have on disk). You can test if it will work for you by changing this line to the following
<cpi:offlineImage cpi:source="wim:d:/sources/install.wim#Windows 7 PROFESSIONAL" xmlns:cpi="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:cpi" />
If it does not work, the other issue can be related to device discovery. Typically A: and B: device names are reserved for Floppy Drives. C: is your internal HDD.
D: can either point to the Optical drive, or the USB. The normal convention is that the removable media is named from Z: backwards. Y: and Z: are usually used for Network drives, so X: should be your USB. First try with the change to "Professional". If it does not work,
