DSL config

I did the basic configuration for ADSL on router 1802. When I issue show int atm0, it shows the following.
ATM0 is initializing, line protocol is down
Hardware is MPC ATMSAR (with Alcatel ADSL Module)
Even for one full day it shows as initializing only. It does'nt become UP.

it seems that you don't have a working dsl line (do you have checked this with another modem) or that you have the false router (Annex B [ADSL over ISDN] instead of Annex A [ISDN over POTS]) ...
Cisco 1801 is for Annex A (POTS)
Cisco 1802 is for Annex B (ISDN)

  • My MacBook's Safari is running REALLY slow all of a sudden

I bought my MacBook at the start of this year and it's been all I could have hoped for a more.
In the past day or so, it has been taking a really long time for web pages to load, and especially for clips to download on YouTube (which has not been the case in the past at all). I use broadband internet, but it hasn't passed its download limit.
When i googled this question I saw a post that said someone might have a rootkit (??) installed on their computer, is that at all relevant? Sorry for the hazy questions but I'm not super computer literate and I'm a new mac user.
    Thanks!

*Hi Johanna, Welcome* to Apple's Users Help Users Forums.
I won't be too much help but if you can still make the thread a question it will attract more attention.
    In the mean time:
    Check DSL config.

  • High Reed-Solomon EC on 887VA with VDSL

    Hi,
I've recently set up a C887VA-W-E-K9 router to connect to Vodafone fibre 80/20.  It's my first time setting up a xDSL circuit from scratch on these routers so I don't know if the config is 100% right - but it is working anyway (much to my delight).
After an initial teething period of unexplained CRC & header errors, and chronically low download speeds (~6Mbps download, 19Mbps upload) the line seems to have "settled".
Despite being told we would likely be only able to get around 50Mbps due to our distance from the cabinet, the router is reporting that attainable speeds in the 80s, and syncing consistently over 73Mbps.
Although no one has complained of any issues in the office that I'm aware of, I am seeing consistently high Reed-Solomon EC values in the statistics for the VDSL controller.  The fact the rest of the numbers there are zero makes me think it shouldn't be this high?
Here is the output from sh controller vdsl 0, taken about 30 minutes after I cleared the counters on it:

As you can see - the Reed-Solomon EC count is already at 107,824 and it carries on rising into the millions.  There doesn't seem to be any particular consistently to it.
I've been in contact with our broadband providers who haven't really able to help, and insist that we have to use the BT Openreach modem in front of our router otherwise it's not a supported configuration.  Vodafone are also telling them the same thing when it was escalated.  I've also been told - which I don't believe - that the 887VA can't support 80/20 VDSL, but the CPU utilisation on it barely goes above 15% even with CBAC and IPSEC active, so it seems meaty enough.
Vodafone also gave me a load of settings that don't (I think?) apply to VDSL at all - e.g. VCI, VPI and VC-Mux/VC-based multiplexing?  I can't see any way of setting these on the Dialer0 interface, and the ATM0 interface is administratively down as it's unused.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
Is our "Noise margin" too low?  Could a mismatch of MTU cause this kind of problem? (currently I have no MTU settings explicitly set, and sh int shows it as 1500 - which Vodafone also said we should aim for).
I should point out that speed wise the speed tests I've run have consistently shown download speeds of ~70Mbps, and upload of ~18Mbps, and there hasn't been any desyncs that I've seen - so whatever is causing those Reed-Solomon EC numbers doesn't seem to be adversely affecting the line or the quality of service.

    Hi,
I'm on BT infinity 80/20 but distance to the cab means i can only get around 40/10 (long story but due to some discount if I reduce my profile it will cost more)
I have also noted the high Reed-Solomon error rate, I can not work out why. Got a solid line so perhaps I should not complain :-

  • Strange issue - unable to establish PPP with Cisco 887 VAG router on one particular ADSL line

I have a strange problem that I’m struggling to get to the bottom of with my ISP and wondered if anyone could help.
We have a site with an older Cisco 877 ADSL router which was working happily until a few weeks ago when the connection dropped suddenly (out-of-hours at 2am if that’s of any significance – made me think most likely something carrier/ISP related?)    When connectivity was lost, the router could sync with the BT exchange (we are in the UK) but could not establish PPP.
We logged fault with our ISP – after some to’ing and fro’ing, they passed it onto BT and their engineers visited site, they fixed “a line fault” (we don’t get much detail on what was actually fixed) but we still could not establish connectivity – same thing, solid CD light but no PPP.
So, we replaced the router with another 877 – same again, solid CD but no PPP.  We replaced all the cables and microfilter etc but no difference.
We tried a different Cisco router (a newer Cisco 887VAG) which, as I understand, uses a different modem chipset but no matter – PPP could still not be established.  We tested this router on another ADSL line with the same ISP and it worked without issue, using the same ADSL account details, it was able to establish connectivity.  So we figured this must still be a BT/ISP issue.
Since then we’ve had BT out again twice but they say there is no fault.  The ISP say there is no issue with them.  But we still cannot establish ADSL connectivity on this line, despite having tried 3 different ADSL routers and despite the fact the routers work with the same account details on another ADSL line.
The 887VAG router we have currently connected has 3G backup so that is keeping us going in the meantime and also means I can login to the router remotely to check on the ADSL status.
But I’m struggling to pinpoint where the problem may lie.   Strangely, if I turn on PPP negotiation and authentication debug then I’m not actually seeing any output from it at all?
Yet, the ATM interface is up and shows packets being sent and received:

Does anyone have any ideas on where the problem may be and what more I can do to troubleshoot and provide the relevant evidence to our ISP (assuming it is an ISP/BT issue though the fact the same router works ok with the exact same details etc would seem to indicate it must be their issue!)

    Hi Jody,
thanks for the suggestions.  Here's what I see from the ppp debugs (but I'm not sure how to interpret?)

    Any further thoughts?

  • Cisco 887va on Eircom ADSL

    Hi
I am new to the Cisco routers but  am trying to get a Cisco 887va working on a Eircom ADSL2 connection.
I was using the config of an old Cisco router as a guide, basically this has encapsulation aal5snap under the ATM interface, I am unable to set this in the 887va, I did read that this needs to be set under the VDSL controller however it will not take the commands.
Also how can I set the the dsl operating-mode to auto.

    Hi Paolo
Thank you for taking your time to reply to me basically I adjusted the MTU and set the Dialer ip address to negotiated and it came up, I was given a /32 IP address from the ISP it had a mask of 255.255.255.255, the router kept complaining about this, once I set to negotiated and set the MTU it came up fine.
    Many Thanks
    Declan

  • Cisco 887 on BT ADSL2+ throughput freezes

    Hi
We have some very frustrating issues with a Cisco 887 router on a BT ADSL2+ line.
Now the symptoms are, the line is up and running, synced at 4.5MB and then all of a sudden we can't browse anymore. The line is still up but packets are not forwarded anymore, throughput freezes.
Now we had problems in the past with this line where initially the download was about 900Kb (service was stable) and after many arguments with BT someone in their team 're-wrote the protocol' (I have no idea what that means) and the speed went up to 3.5MB. We had BT engineers on site, swapped the line on different pairs (which pumped the speed up to 5.1MB but with the cost of an intermitent service).
I've tried 2 routers, both 887 but with different IOS and modem software (one more up to date) but both presented the same behaviour.
I'll post below sh controller vdsl output command and a few bits of the config. Any help or ideas would be very much apreciated.

  • Recently my macbook's response is a little slow

recently I want to open more than three safari windows, then the system will be slow. It should take several seconds to open or close the windows. Can you tell be the way how to make the system quicker?

*Hi Johanna, Welcome* to Apple's Users Help Users Forums.
I won't be too much help but if you can still make the thread a question it will attract more attention.
    In the mean time:
    Check DSL config.
Repair Permissions from Utilities on the HD.
Repair Disk by Utilities on the Install Disk.
    Good Luck, JP

  • Config server for dsl

I am trying to config my home with a new mac mini snow leopard server. I am connected via a local cable company dsl. I have a linkseys wireless router also connected to my dsl modem. I setup port forwarding on router but I still cannot access the server over the net. I did rtfm and watched the lynd.com videos but still having problem. How should I setup the router?
    any suggestings?

    Cool, thanks for the advice.
Am using spamhaus, blocking tons of spam. Also tried others with limited success. Recently (6months) found maildeflector.com. They catch most of what spamhaus misses. For $169 a year you can add management features (whitelist and blacklist, also block entire countries).
Alas, there is always a new netblock to put on the list. Argh, I hate those useless spammers. Espcially the email that go nowhere. I mean, come on, at least put some kind of website at the end of the link.

  • Backing up config of DSL modem

I have a Westell 7500 DSL modem that allows the backup of the config settings internally. I need to replace the modem and am hoping there is a way to save the settings externally so as to use on new modem. Any insight would be very much appreciated.
    Tnx!

NJT welcome to the forum. See post 2 here http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r25544433-modem-router-Westell-7500-Configuration-File-option-to-sav...-
Bottom line there is no way to save to an external hard drive, flash drive etc. This used to drive me nuts escpecially having to setup port forwarding for STEAM! Best you can do is wrtie everyting down and enter it manually into the new router. Now I have FIOS & I can save the config file to my hard drive (ActionTec MI424WR-Gen2) I tested it & I am able to restore settings!

  • Config Time Capsule with ZyXEL DSL modem/router

    Hello everyone,
I have been beating my head about this for the last week or so and it had drove me to drink (Really short drive by the way). I have CenturyLink DSL Service with a modem that they provided (ZyXEL PK5000Z), this is a modem/Wi-Fi router. What I am trying to do is have my Time Calsule be the Wi-Fi router so my AirPort Express can extend the network and do what it does to get my devices connected. When ever I have my Time Capsule connected to the modem, it will drop the internet connection within 10 min to 30 min, but when I have the modem wired to my Mac it stays connected for days. I have tried many different configs and putting the Time Capsule in "Bridged" mode with the ethernet cable in both the internet port and LAN port... same problem. If anyone could please help me get this setup, that would be amazing... plus this would save me from having to call the CenturyLink Tech Support line.
    Thanks,
    James

Strange things happen.. the TC should be fine bridged to the Zyxel.. as long as you turn off wireless in the Zyxel and only use wireless in the TC.. you must create the wireless network.. not join a network.. people try to do both at the same time and end up in a mess.
Then you can check the extend wireless network in the TC and airport should be able to extend it.
But I would also add the following.
Fix radio channels.. if you have difficulties the less auto the better.
Use SMB names ie short, no spaces, pure alphanumeric for everything but particularly wireless.
And use a different name for 5ghz.
    Use only WPA2 Personal security.
If you lay off the grog for a bit it helps keep the mind clear.. to think through the things.. although I do understand the frustration.
Let me suggest you post all the setup screen shots and that can help us loads to figure out if you are making a mistake.

  • Solaris 8 config for DSL

I want to reconfigure my standalone SunBlade100 for DSL service. The OS is Solaris 8 10/01, and is currently configured for dial-up access to an ISP.
I've edited the etc/hosts, etc/resolve.conf, and etc/nsswitch.conf files, and I created an etc/defaultrouter file containing the gateway IP address.
Sun PPPD 4.0 is installed, and includes PPPoE.
My question is what else do I need to do in order to complete the configuration?
Are there any good references for Solaris DSL configuration?
    Thanks in advance?

    Hello,
I supose that its an errata but its /etc/resolv.conf and not /etc/resolve.conf.
Your access internet via a router. I dont know about DSL but if its a standar router you shoudnt have to configure pppd, just a normal network access with the routing and the naming service properly configured.
If you edit /etc/defaultrouter, the changes will take effect on the next reboot, so maybe youll have to add a route manually if you cannot shutdown the machine:
    route add default your_router_ip
This way you should ping your router, if the routing is properly configured your dns server too (specifying its IP) and finally if the naming service is well configured, any Full Qualyfied Domainame on internet.
Try this and post the results. Bye,

  • How to config for DSL !!!

I am using DSL with the verizon.
I just install 5.8 x86 on my PC.
But could not browse on the Web.
I need to know whatelse I need to do ?
Do I have to Configure DHCP ?
How can I do it ?
    Please advise.
    Thanks again.

Your router should be the dhcp server for your internal network or you can just give your solaris machine an address on the same 192.168.2 network. You will have to configure the external interface of your router for dhcp so it will receive an ip, dns and gateway addresses for the outside world (internet) - that is if you were not assigned a set ip address. What type of router is it?

  • SF200-24P config to use DSL

    Hi all,
Recently purchased device to use in small 'satellite' office/garage application.  Interested in eliminating points of failure and would like to see if we are able to integrate device to directly manage DSL modem, DHCP etc.  so effectively offloading the functions of a Cable/DSL router to it.
    Suggestions?

This is an excerpt from Snow Leopard Help on how the network preference pane works:
"You can connect to the Internet or a network in several ways (using a modem, AirPort, or Ethernet, for example). If you have multiple active network port configurations, Mac OS X tries the configuration at the top of the list first, and then tries the other port configurations in descending order when you attempt to connect to the Internet."
I connect with a DSL using PPoE, and I have a port for PPoE and a separate one for Ethernet in my network preference pane. You may find FAQ on your provider's site that will give you the type of connection you have.

  • AT&T DSL & Cisco ASA 5505 Problems

Okay I have been working with a 5505 for two days and finally got it configured and working on an AT&T DSL Modem then when I took the 5505 to the clients office and connected/configured it to their AT&T DSL with their IPs the whole thing quite working. I noticed walk through the Tech discussions that there are lots of problems with AT&T DSL deployments and I also discovered that one working configuration was attached to a DSL in AT&Ts standard deployment as a DHCP router using dynamic IPs while the second is in bridge mode using static IPs.
So here's the question why won't the DSL Modem in bridge mode not work as a typical Internet connection like a Cable Modem? I have a Cisco Wireless VPN 4400 to it in bridge mode using static IPs and it works great and on the 4400 there are no special PPPoe settings that have to be set just standard IPs, DNSs, Gateways, Masks...
I see in the Cisco Tech Notes that it is recommended/mandatory to configure Vpdn groups and the Vlan2 to take into account the PPPoe configuration of the AT&T DSL Modem but if the DSL modem is already set in bridge mode and is handling the PPPoe authentication why does the 5505 have do it again this see,s redundant. Will try to use the example configuration additions above and post here with the results.
BTW the configuration with the DSL set as DHCP Router works without any special PPPoe configs.
Very puzzling this DSL configuration conundrum... Last point for businesses if you can use Cable or nonDSL ISP you should do so this AT&T stuff is for the birds... Angry Birds...
Thanks for the assistance in advance!!!

Hi Ferdinand. I don't know what a Smartnet contract is. How do I know if we have one? This ASA basically hasn't been touched for 5 years. Almost the entire staff has rotated through this company since then and nobody knowns anything. I found the invoice for it this morning after accounts searched for it, but it appears to have been purchased from a non services retailer. I contacted them and while they confirm they sold it to us they know nothing about it. They don't offer service.
    What are my options?
