DSL - High Ping, Unable to play games/VPN

Hey all,
I'm writing in regards to my DSL service, which I just switched over to from cable.  I do a fair amount of gaming, both on PC and xbox, and already had my router set up for port forwarding successfully on my cable modem.  I have a DSL Westell 6100G modem, which I changed to bridge mode and connected to my Netgear WGR614v7 wireless router.  I can access the internet without issue, can download fine, and can stream Netflix without issue.  However, on some PC or XBOX games, my ping is so high that I either cannot connect or lose my connection to other games.  I'm also having this problem when i use a VPN/Tunnelling software on my PC to play XBOX online (via XLINK/Kai).  All of my required ports are properly forwarded and I"ve checked to make sure they're open.  When I use pingtest.net, I get an A or B* rating, usually with ping 20-40.  However, as soon as I go to play a game, my ping skyrockets and I am unable to go any further.
Please let me know of any suggestions you may have.  If there's any other information I can provide, let me know.
Again, my Westell 6100G is properly bridged, and my Netgear router detects PPPoE and is properly connected/forwarded, as proven by downloads/streaming/testing.  I can get download speeds anywhere from 4-6.5Mb/s, and upload speeds of ~700Kb/s, as tested at speedtest.net.

You might have picked a bad weekend to switch over to Verizon DSL. It appears both DSL and FiOS customers are having problems accessing certain internet addresses residing in California. Many gaming servers are based there, including World of Warcraft, Everquest, etc., but also including sites like Craiglist, newegg.com.  We're all hoping it'll get better within a few days when/if they figure out what's going on.

  • High Pings and lag in games.

    The problem I have is with gaming early in a morning and towards lunch time are usually fine and late a night into the early hours are usually ok aswell but as soon as peak times roll in my online play is impossible due to high pings and very bad lag, any idea what could be causing my problem please?
    Steps I have taken to date, contact BT and was passed onto tier 2 tech support who then ran a noise check which last 24 hours on my line, which seems to have left my line with a higher noise value than before.
    Tried a different ethernet cable, different micro filter, unplugged everything from the socket except for my Homehub 2, turned off my firewall and virus checker, reset my computer, closed all unused programs. Tried a friends Homehub 2, tried a laptop, all have the same result with high pings and lag in games.
    Also BT quote my line speed should be an estimated 17MB.

    Hi,
    Since I upgraded to windows 8.1 , my computer is runing much slower and I'm unable to play games as it looks like that my video card drivers are not good. 
    To give you an example, I can't even watch match simulation on Football Manager 2015 since I upgraded to 8.1

    Try uninstalling the current Flash plugin then reinstall new >   Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
    If you are running v10.7 >  Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Storage tab. Click: Delete All
    Relaunch your browser after reinstalling the Flash. Assuming your are using Safari, from your Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
    Now try a game on CNN.

  • Unable to play games after Adobe Flash Player 15?

    Hi, over 1 week of trying to solve Adobe Flash Player 15 problems I am at the end of my rope and even considering getting rid of my computer.
    I have Windows 7 and I enjoy playing on CNN's game site.  As I said I have not been able to play for over 1 week.  It will allow me to play 'Metro Match' and 'Find It' but not what I enjoy the most - jigsaw, mahjongg to name two.
    I tried the prior instruction twice and still unable to play.  Can anyone help, I thank you all for listening.

    The kids like to play games in the car. i dont always want them to use my phone. I bought an Ipod touch partially for this reason but games can not be played if we are not close to WiFi. If would have known this I would not have bought it. Can I change this in any way. in Settings??

    Some games require an internet connection and some do not. It seems that the ones yu kids are using require an internert connection. The iPod can only connect to the internet via wifi.
    If your phone and data plan supported tethering/persone hotspot then use you phone to connect to the iternet and the iPods can then connect to your phone via wifi (or bluetooth for iPhone tethering)

    Updated to new firefox when asked. Now cannot play games on facebook. Get a message pop up when i first switch on saying that games have been disabled.

    Go to the site, click on a Help or Support link (sometimes at the bottom of the main page), click around until you find something like "system requirements" to see what is necessary for that site. THINK!!!
    If you are trying to play Flash-based games, you do not even have Flash installed; look in Addons>Plugins in FF for Shockwave Flash.
    You have what most would consider spyware/adware installed; "My Web Search" in Plugins. Google it, read about it and how to get rid of it.

  • Unable to play games on win xp pro

    im using win xp pro and i successfully installed midtown madness 2 but when i click play, it say the cd-rom is not detected. what could be the problem? I'm using TDK 1616DLN dvd writer with msi k8n neo2 platinum

    The original Midtown madness had this problem with some CD drives. (never worked on my samsung)
    They made a patch for it, and I see they do for Midtown Madness 2.
    It doesn't say it will fix the no CD error (yes this is an error with the legit copy) but it might be worth a try.
    MS know the problem exists (I had a long chat with them on the phone years ago) but don't seem to want to fix it.
    I seem to recall them pointing me towards a patch for Encarta, that also has this error with some drives. (same security / same fix?)
    Updating your CD / DVD firmware might also help.
    There are other ways over this, but they are best not posted on a public forum.

    My system has 64-bit,English, Firefox, It appears that I have Java but am unable to upgrade it, when trying to down load to install plug ins it fails and goes to manual install where I am unable to make the necessary changes.

    I think I know. Try rebooting your device. Once I couldn't open an app and rebooting worked! :)
