DSL issue with HP Computer
I purchased a new HP Pavilion desk top 4 days ago. I can connect to the MSN home page but if I click a link nothing. I cannot log into verizon.com or any other websites either. I am connected to a Westel 327w, which is probably 5 years old or more, could this be the problem? This new computer is connected by Ethernet cable, wireless access on other computers is working fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I am becoming very frustrated, tried to use DSL CD from Verizon but it is also old and outdated and will not work. HELP! Thanks Debra
Update the drivers for your Wired/Wireless adapter. A lot of new computers tend to have outdated drivers installed as a part of the image. Some people have reported that this has solved this particular issue, and this would be the way I would approach this problem, as I originally suggested when this problem first surfaced. People have also had luck with updating the firmware on their modem/router, and others have had luck with bridging their modems to another router or replacing the modem/router all together.
The best way to find updated Drivers is to Google the component that needs updating (eg; Realtec Gigabit NIC, Atheros BGN Adapter), and downloading the driver directly from the device manufacturer's website. Getting the driver from the PC Manufacturer often will result in the same old driver, or one that is slightly newer.

I have been having issues with my computer lagging after installing lion. Can anyone please help me get the issue resolved? I need it in easy to follow language.
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
I am having issues with my computer recognizing my phone when attached. I am trying to transfer pictures to my computer but it doesn't even see the phone.
skinaked101,
Look no further help is here! I can understand the importance of being able to keep your pictures safe on your computer.
Have you tried using different USB ports on your computer, as your fellow community member suggested?
Visit http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-97259/ for complete steps to transfer the pictures from your phone to computer.

Creative Cloud license issues with second computer
My company bought CC and I have it installed and running on computer A. However, computer B is having trouble. I've downloaded the CC Desktop, and installed the app's I want on my computer - but when I start a program and it ask's to START TRIAL or LICENSE THIS PRODUCT it asks me for the serial number.
With computer A this didn't happen. All I needed was my account information. Do I need my Admin to send me another invitation for computer B, or is there a technical issue I need to address?
Thanks for the help in advance,

As Ken G. suggested before, you need to update to Photoshop's latest version. To install the update, open Photoshop and choose Help > Updates. That solves the "trial version" issue. At least it did for me. -
An issue with the computer crashing.
My Macbook bought in 2007 recently has gone through some running issues. Every now and then when I am running a facebook program that uses an Adobe Flash application the laptop stops running and requires a restart. This is becoming almost a daily issue. I have reported the problem to Apple but I am not sure what the issue is:

I'm not a techy, but I did see on another thread to run EtreCheck. I called up Apple Support a few months ago, before Mavericks, as my system was running slower. The Apple tech said I have plenty of room on my hard drive and to just delete stuff of of my desktop. So I did - didn't really help. I am assuming my RAM space stinks and that is why it is in red? What should I do next? So here is my report:

Yes, your Mac is seriously lacking of RAM. 2 GBs of RAM simply will not cut it on OS X Mavericks.
The real world working minimum RAM is really 4 GBs and more is better of you can afford it.
Your year and model Mac can take a total of 8 GBs of RAM.
Correct and reliable Mac RAM can be purchased from online Mac RAM sources Crucial memory or OWC (macsales.com).
OWC carries that 8 GB RAM kit.

Also, you have some older PowerPC Apps, extensions and plugins that need to be removed as older PowerPC applications no longer work on OS X since the introduction of OS X 10.7 Lion.

I do not know what all these are for, but if it is for connected hardware devices, you need to see if there are any new updates from each device maker's websites.
You appear to have two USB LAN remote control extensions that could be causing issues as one is for OS X 10.3 Panther and it is very old. The other one looks old, too!
If you do not use any of this hardware any longer on your Mac, you can find these to delete and Trash in the System>Library>Extensions folder.
User iTunes Plug-ins:
iLike: Version: 1.0 Support
PPC Bundle: Version: (null) Support
iLike Bundle: Version: (null) Support
Tiger Bundle: Version: (null) Support
These look like older PowerPC Pllugins. for iTunes which will no longer work.
These are in your User>Library folder which is hidden from the user, now (kinda ironic, that).
In the Finder, click the Go menu and hold the Option key. The Library folder will appear under the Go menu until you release the Option key.
Open this folder and look for the iTunes>Plugins folder and drag these to the Trash and empty.
Make sure to update all of your installed third party software if there are OS X Mavericks updates that can be applied.
You may need to, ACTUALLY, go the third party developers' websites if there are no updates through the Mac App Store.
Update all of your Web browser Internet plugins, extensions and add-ons also.
Also, if you have any connected third party devices, like non-Apple keyboards, mice, drawing tablets, hubs, card readers, etc, you need to update the drivers for these devices to OS X Mavericks compatible versions by going to the device makers' websites and search for newer software and driver updates.
After you have completed all these activities (minus the installation of new RAM) restart your Mac.

Connection issues with one computer - but not any other computer or iphone
I have a strange problem…. well, really it is my friends/co-workers problem, but I am his sponsor so I feel I need to be there for him.
We are both school teachers - and to help us in the eduction of our students we have created a wireless network (hidden so we don’t get caught!) that we can use in our area of the building. We have had it for several years and we have both hooked up to it regularly using our laptops and our ipod touch/iphone. Just recently my co-workers computer stopped being able to access the internet through the airport. We checked the settings, threw out the settings and re-entered them. Turned off the airport, turned it back on - typed in the network settings, connected - but no internet. We ran disk utility and repaired disk permissions. We have even gone as far as to create a new user…. still no luck. I have shut down and restarted the airport at school, still the issue remains.
He can see the shared disk attached to the airport, he sees my itunes library, I see his - and the rest of the teachers in the school see both of ours (we are music teachers, so our libraries are rather extensive!) and are constantly listening to our shared libraries. We know he is connected to the network, he just cannot access the internet. However, when he plugs in to the network (same settings) via ethernet - there is no problem he gets right into the network.
We both have airports at home - and we both have no problems connecting at home.
There are only two things that have happened since we noticed this problem… 1) is Snow Leopard - we believe the problem started AFTER that upgrade. and 2) we just got a new iMac Lab (I am teaching a new class - Audio Engineering this year) and in the lab I put a legal Airport - but that one IS NOT connected to the school network at all - it just allows all of the iMacs to access the shared hard drive (easier than running cable). This airport (new one - two channel) sits between his office and the old airport (single channel) that we use to access the internet and school network. I don’t think this is the problem as I have turned off the “new” airport and the problem remains.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!Hi,
Sounds like you had the same problem I had, which I resolved:

Verizon dsl issues with macbook pro
Hi there
We recently got Verizon high speed internet and it's (mostly) been working fine. We have a home network set up on various devices: 2 MacBooks, 3 iPhones, 1 iPad. The WiFi has been perfect on the smartphones and tablets, but there are two ongoing issues on the MacBooks:
1) on my laptop, the desktop Mail program (Mac Mail), which previously synced beautifully, has to be restarted each time to download email. If I don't restart, there is a little exclamation point thingy on the left, and I get a message saying something to do with cannot find imap.gmail something something. This is a consistent problem.
2) on my wife's laptop, Mail works fine, but (and this is odd) google does not. She cannot access google.com at all, unless she restarts her machine. Google doesn't work on either Safari or Firefox, but other google sites (such as google maps) work fine. We have tried clearing the cache but no change.
For both these problems we have tried restarting the modem/router but also no change. And as I say the internet works great on all other devices, it's just these funny little issues.
Any advice would be appreciated, and please not too much tech speak I am a novice.
Thanks.Well, if you are on the road you could try to do this:
1. boot with the Alt key pressed
2. select the recovery drive
3. reinstall Lion
Hope you left a backup at home!
Good luck... -
I recently updated my computer and since then it hasn't let me play netflix saying it is a hardware issue. I'm not sure what to do.
Have you tried (re)installing Silverlight?
https://help.netflix.com/en/node/2086
If that doesn't/didn't work, try clearing history and website data (in Safari: check the History menu and scroll all the way down). -
Softwear issue with new computer
I purchased The Rosetta Stone for German, it worked great on my old XP computer. I now havea HP ENVY 700 and cannot load the Rosetta Stone softwear. Does windows 8 not reach back to windows XP?
copbob
Welcome to the HP Community Forum.
There are many, many years between XP and Windows 8.1 Operating System.
The short explanation is that programming code is vastly different -- Windows 8.x does not "reach back" to Windows XP: One must purchase new / replacement programs for those that ran on XP.
New World.
If the company from which you purchased the software has sympathy for your plight, you might be able to convince them that you deserve a program upgrade for free -- or for a discounted price. Much of this depends on whether the company and upgrade are available.
I wish you success.

Measurement Computing USB-DIO96H driver issue with Labview 2012 SP1 on Windows 7 x64
Is anyone else having issues with measuremetn Computing's USB-DIO96H driver in Labview 2012 SP1. It throws warnings in Labview when loaded that are unresolvable as you can't save to the DLL driver file. Also it regularily crashes Labview randomly. I am not impressed with their driver. Anyone have any suggestion other than replacing with NI-DAQ solution, which I am working on?
I've taken a look and I don't see any drivers available for that device on ni.com. There are two potential workarounds that would both involve building your own driver:
1. Write a LabVIEW application that calls functions on the DLL you downloaded from Measurements Group
2. Write a LabVIEW application that addresses the device using NI-VISA and serial communication.
Some resources if you choose to go down that path:

i recently purchased an ipod 5th generation for my other half which i have set up an account for and comes up when i plug in but the home page always comes up with my ipod stuff which is a 4th generation ipod. i have no problem with mine as it stores songs etc but when i plug the other one in it deletes whats on there and i have to manually tick all the songs again to sync back on to it. is this normal?? i am using a windows xp and have no issues with the computer and my ipod just the other one. i also have updated itunes to itunes 9 so the 5th generation ipod can download stuff. it seems to store songs and then when i go to download or update it takes them off and am back to square one!!!! please help!!
Is the following document of any help with that?

My hard drive went out and had to be replaced. I coundnt back-up anything before it happened becuase i was having so many issues with my computer. So i plugged my ipod into my computer and Itunes tells me-
the ipod "my ipods name" is synced with another library. Do you want to erase this ipod and sync. My ipod has only been plugged into this computer. I dont have anything from my ipod saved and I sepnt a TON of money on the music, apps, and videos on my Ipod. I dont want to lose all of the stuff on my ipod but i need to sync it. Is there any way i can get everything off my ipod and onto my computer without using Itunes? then i could transfer them to Itunes.Try this:
Right clicking on your ipod in the device list an d choosing "transfer purchases" will copy apps and bought media from iTunes to your computer. Due to the new iTunes library on your new HD, iTunes will erase your ipod during the first sync. To save your data to the computer take a look at this article about saving data from your device to a computer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
Basically it's backing up manually, transferring her purchases (apps and bought music), letting iTunes erase the ipod due to the new iTunes library, and restoring from the manual backup again, to get all the data and settings back.
Make sure your new computer account is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.
Restoring: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0 -
Major issues with my iMac- crashes and errors
In the past 2 weeks I have had multiple issues with my computer. 3 times the OS has crashed- twice I had to pull the plug to get it to do anything. I can't open Photoshop. I can't print. Adobe Bridge keeps crashing. I have to turn Airport off/on about once an hour because the internet stops working. This is my first Mac and I've had it about a year and a half, so I don't know a lot about the system. Most of my work is stored on an external hard drive and I have 292.32 GB available. I am looking for suggestions to get running normally agian because I really can't lose several days of working by taking this to an Apple store (45 minutes away). Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give.
It's good to hear that repairing permissions helped resolve the issue. Your Mac logs a lot of data about how the system is performing. Of particular interest is the CrashReporter logs that can be viewed by launching the 'console' application which can be found in the applications/utilities folder. In the left column you can open up the ~/Library/Logs where you will see then see the CrashReporter log. Open it up and you will probably find a number of crash reporter entries which may yield clues. It may be necessary to provide more details from the logs and let some of the expert users provide suggestions. You may find that some of your software is not up to date.
This CNET article provides an overview of the Crash Reporter:

I have a 2012 Macbook Pro and the GPU is causing issues with Yosemite. There are a number of issues I have run across:
If I have four tabs open on Safari then I start to get a flickering on the screen from the GPU refreshing
When I leave the computer alone for more than 20 mins the screen saver should start -- what happens is that the screen goes to black. When I move the cursor I do not get the login screen. I have to reboot
FireFox Web browser will not run
I get issues with the computer running very slowly
I have already turned off the transparency option in settings. Any ideas??
Cheers
Matt
MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10), GPU / Video Card with YosemiteDo you have more than one OS on the Mac?
You may want to look at something like http://bjango.com/mac/istatmenus/. This has a Free Trial window, but it is a commercial application. If there are any heat/sensor issues, this may help.
A SMC Reset or PRAM/NVRAM reset may also help.
