DSL & Printer Server

I just installed a WRT54G (ver 6) on a 3 computer network.  All seems well the comptuers (none of them are wirelesss) talk to each other.  My problem(s) are I can not connect to the internet anymore.  If I go to Start, Connect To and choose my ISP I can manually log in and access the internet.  but I can't get the router to do it for me.  I have it setup for PPPoE and have my correct username and pw keyed in.  I am using ATT (formarlly SBC) DSL to access the internet.  I know all the connections are good since I can surf the web when I manualy log in, but why can't I get the router to do it for me.  After talks to tech support he said I should get a new router, but I seriosly doubt that it is my router.  I think I just don't have some option checked.
Also my other problem I use a Dlink DP300U print server.  It requires I set my computer up to a specific IP (192.168.0.52) when I do this I can print, but now I can't access the router unless I have the "Assign IP automatically" checked.  What do I do?
Thanks,
Joe

hi there,
lets do this step by step.
once your computer is connected to the modem, you need to go to "start" and "connect to" and type in your username and password from ATT. rightt?
here's what you need to do, make sure that the router is properly connected to the modem and the computers, then access the setup page of router by opening an internet explorer and type in 192.168.1.1 on the address bar. leave username blank and password is "admin", unless you personalized it. once you are on the setup screen, set the "internet connection type" to PPPoE and type in your username and password from ATT.
chiao!

  • Using a wireless print server... help!

Hi. I have a G5 on a wireless network using a LinkSys WRT-54G router. I just got a wireless print server (D-Link DPR-1260) and want to network my HP 6110xi All-in-one printer. 6110 drivers are installed, and printer previously worked fine when connected directly to computer via USB port.
Now, I want to share it over the wireless network. I believe I have the print server correctly configured... just not sure how to configure my G5 to print across the network to this printer. How do I set it up?
    Particulars:
    - LinkSys WRT-54G, 802.11g wireless router, firmware v4.20.7 (192.168.0.1)
    - D-Link DPR-1260, wireless print server, firmware v1.00 (192.168.0.10, static)
    - HP 6110xi All in One, latest drivers from HP downloaded and installed.
    - iMac G5, (192.168.0.100, dynamic IP)
Thanks for any help provided. Regards.

    PC1 = Printer1 (USB) (Win)
    PC2 =Printer2 (USB) (iMac)
    PC3 WIFI WinXP laptop
The iMac has built-in Bonjour technology. So use that. If your windows PC has XP you can download Bonjour for that one as well and use that to share your printer.
What you can do is use the Airport Express and connect it to a USB printer. Make sure that it is compatible printer.

  • Printing to a Linksys Wireless Print Server with my MAC

have a small home network using an ATT DSL modem-router. I have several PCs hardwired to the router and 1 older MAC wireless. I have a MAC G4 laptop and a Dell laptop (my wife's) also connected wirelessly and all work well. I have added a Linksys wireless print server today and am able to get my wife's laptop to print easily and reliable as does the hardwired Dell. What I need is to get my MAC laptop to print wirelessly as well. I have tried all the options in the printer set-up but it does not see the print server. Linksys does not support MAC and there are no MAC drivers for the print server to download that I know of. Does anyone know of a fix on how I could configure this equipment so I can print wirelessly from my MAC laptop. Or perhaps bypass the print server and print using the modem-router and the same printer. I would appreciate any suggestions one could lend. Thanks much.

Looking at figure 8-5 and the text to its left in the User Guide.
Click Add in Printer Setup, then select IP printer > IPP. Enter the print server's IP address AND queue name P1. With that info filled in OS X has all it needs to address the printer on the print server.
Download and install the CUPS driver version 1.1.0, and choose it when you Add in Printer Setup.

  • Wireless print server that suppports multi-function?

I have a family member who has an HP multi-function USB only printer (can't remember the model offhand). They are looking to get a laptop soon. I was also gonna then hook them up with a wireless router for their home & DSL connection. The current HP printer is USB, but I would like to somehow make it wireless. I have used several wireless print server devices for USB printers, but none of them support the multi-functions (scan, copy, fax, etc) and simply allow you to do basic printing wirelessly. Short of buying a totally new wireless printer and/or network printer of some sort that can plug into the router & then handle all these functions wirelessly, is there possibly any wireless routers or wireless print server devices out there that will FULLY handle HP multi-function printers?

  • Wireless Print Server Installation Issue - HP 2101nw

I have been using the 2101nw for the past year with my HP printer and Qwest DSL (Actiontec Wireless modem / router) without any issues. Well I made the switch over to Comcast so I needed to use a new wireless router (the Linksys WRT54G). For some reason I wasn't able to get the 2101nw to work, it just wouldn't connect to my computer. So I decided to uninstall the software and reinstall it. Well that isn't working very well. Everything loads up fine while the print server is connected to my computer. The instructions then tell me to discount the cable from my computer and plug in the printer, nothing happens at all after that. No connection and the software therefore won't complete the installation. I've spent two days trying to figure out what to do, since the guide really doesn't offer any help.  Any suggestions or recommendations?

  • Trouble printing to a parallel printer over a router via a print server

My G5 and my Windows laptop once happily coexisted (past tense) using a Linksys Cable/DSL Router (BEFSR41) which also fed a Linksys PPSK1 10/100 Ethernet Print Server connected to my trusty dusty NEC SuperScript 1800, one of the greatest monochrome laser printers ever made (1200 DPI and lightning fast!) featuring only a parallel interface. This nifty arrangement allowed me to print over the router and through the print server to the Superscript. Then one fateful day, OS X 10.4.1 installed itself on the G5 via Software Update. This most recent OS had some kind of personal problem with the Linksys router and nothing I did could not settle their petty squabble. After 45 minutes on the phone with a Linksys guy named "Raj" I gave up. I bought a NetGear Cable/DSL Router (RP614) and magically, my PC and my Mac started getting along, happily cruising the net together once again. But the Linksys print server must have gotten jealous: He refused to work with the new Netgear in town. I have now laid the foundation for my question: Does anyone know how I might get the Linksys Print Server to play nice and let documents printed over the Netgear router find their way to the NEC Superscript?
    Thanks loads.

    Greg,
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I added another printer using LDP protocol, specified the address as 192.168.1.100, Identified the que as "LPT", then, on a hunch, clicked the "More Printers" button. The dialog box defaults to AppleTalk in the Local AppleTalk Zone and after a brief moment the "Name" of the printer appeared as SCF** (Hex) which, lo and behold, is the name of the PPSX1 as printed on the bottom of the device! At this point I selected the NEC's PostScript print driver and VOILA! Super duper 1200 DPI PostScript output, just like the old days!
Man...whew! Thanks again. Your Guru status is well-deserved.

  • Airport Express as Print Server Have to Recycle it all the time.

Airport Express as a print server
I have an Epson Stylus R280 on an Airport Express.
When I wait a day or so and then go to print, I always have to unplug the Airport Express and plug it in again to get the printer to print. I have the newest driver for the printer.

Is this message box indicating the Airport Express is re-connecting to your internet service and if so, is this Airport Express connected to a DSL internet service that uses the PPPoE protocol to connect? If so, run the Airport Admin Utility, select your Express, click on the Configure button, click on the Internet tab, and check the box to "always stay connected". Update settings to the Airport Express.

  • Wireless router/Print Server w/ Ethernet Xbox 360

    Hey yall,
So I'm on day 2 of my new life as a "Mac guy". Threw down on a G5 and am pretty stoked. Still stock - I'm going to get another GB of RAM and AppleCare soon - and I'm also looking to get everything running wirelessly, including my HP PSC 1510 printer. I currently have Qwest DSL (1.5MB down), which I have configured wirelessly but don't have the router to print wirelessly. I have a 1-bdrm cabin w/ a loft, so I'd like to have the router/printer upstairs and just this pimp machine downstairs for all to see. I also have a Xbox 360 upstairs that I'd like to be able to connect via Ethernet to the router. The Airport Extreme BS would work - but it's 2 bills. Would this US Robotics Router w/ Print Server work?
    http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/ProductDetail.aspx?TabPage=overview&sku=A0474 840&c=us&l=en&cs=19
I'd want to be able to return my rented router to Qwest - would this be one-stop shopping for me? Run internet/print service to the G5 downstairs and hardwire in my 360 upstairs? If so, that would be sweet. Also, the router says any USB printer would work - is that true? The HP PSC 1510 ain't exactly high-end - but I've also not opened it yet and would return it to get something that would work. Thanks a lot for any help, this fruity computer is pretty sweet!!

    iMac G5 2.1 GHz w/ iSight

    Hello,
Congratulations on your new Mac! My setup is similar to your own. I have my computer (iMac G5) hooked up wirelessly and I provide internet to my PS2 from the LAN hookup on the router.
I'm sorry that I can't give you an answer to the usefulness of the US Robotics router but, I can give you my experience with an Airport Express Base Station. I was fortunate enough to get one as a gift for Christmas and have been up and running ever since. ^^
First and foremost the Airport Express Base Station or AEX is Apple made and quite frankly works the best with your computer. You can plug your printer into it and also share your internet with your XBox 360 through the Ethernet port.
Though not as expensive as the Airport Extreme Base Station it is still about twice as expensive as the US Robotics one you labeled in your post. That is my setup in a nutshell except I don't have the XBox 360. ;p (jealous)
I just wanted to provide you a tested and tried solution that works. Good luck and wish you the best with your new setup. I know you are going to enjoy it and I agree about showing off your iMac, they are sweet looking.

  • Ethernet Print Server Keeps iMac G5 from sleeping

    Hello All,
I have a small home network setup with a router to share my DSL Internet connection.
My iMac G5 has never had any sleep problems before. But, with the recent addition of a US Robotics Ethernet Print-Server, the iMac G5 no longer sleeps automatically.
It will sleep fine if I use the power button to sleep it. But, it will not sleep if I let the "Energy Saver" activate it.
The iMac G5 does turn off the display when it is supposed to (in the energy settings). So, it will sleep the display. Just not the computer when the Print Server is attached to the network.
If I unplug the print server from the Ethernet, then the iMac G5 sleeps just fine when the energy saver kicks in.
Further, if the time to sleep has elapsed, and the computer is still awake, then I can unplug the print server from the Ethernet and the iMac G5 will go to sleep a couple of seconds later.
Interestingly, the Mac Mini I have doesn't stay awake. It sleeps just like it is supposed to. It doesn't care if the print-server is attached or not.
The Mac Mini and the iMac G5 are both configured to communicate with the Print Server. It uses AppleTalk to share my printer (a Hewlett Packard LaserJet 5mp).
The iMac G5 is running OS X "Tiger" 10.4.3 and is updated to the current level (all updates). The Mac Mini is running OS X "Panther" 10.3.9 with all the available updates installed.
The system specs are all in my footer below my message.
    Any ideas?
It is obviously the print-server keeping my system awake. If I un-plug it from the network then everything behaves perfectly normal.
Is there a setting somewhere to keep the iMac G5 system from listening to other devices on the network somewhere?
There is no bi-directional setting in the Print-Server. So, that shouldn't be the issue (plus the Mac Mini doesn't care).
The Print Server is a U.S. Robotics USR7500 Ethernet Print Server.
The website for my Print Server is at:
    http://www.usr.com/products/networking/networking-product.asp?sku=USR7500
Hopefully there is a setting somewhere that I can adjust in OS X Tiger to fix this.
The Wake on LAN setting is not turned on. So that's not it.
I also just checked, and the scheduled sleep will work. So, it is just the "inactivity" setting that is giving me trouble.
Like I said though, if I unplug the Ethernet Print-Server, then everything works exactly as it should.
I'll look forward to any ideas you might be able to offer.

    Update:
    Hello All,
I found out what was causing the machine to not sleep.
My built-in Firewall was configured to block UDP communications.
I discovered, quite by chance, that the Print Server was sending a UDP signal to my Mac every 30 seconds or so. I have no idea why, especially since the Print Server should be a receiver not a sender.
As an experiment, I disabled UDP blocking in the FireWall, and my machine went to sleep just like it should.
Any ideas as to why the Print Server would be sending a UDP signal?
Here's an excerpt from my firewall log:

and it keeps going like that for 12 hours or so.
The print server is setup to allow for TCP/IP, NetBEUI, and AppleTalk communication.
I'd like to hear any ideas as to how to get rid of this UDP so I can re-enable the blocking feature in the Firewall.
I do need to keep features enabled that are required to allow my wife's portable PC with Windows XP to print to the server as well.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Problem connecting to Canon i960 through Dlink DPR1260 print server

With the help from another thread, I was able to install the driver for my Canon i960 for iMac OS X 10.7, and the printer works perfect with USB connection. However, when trying to setup the wireless connection via Dlink DPR1260 print server, I keep getting error:" An error occurred while trying to add the selected printer. Unable to communicate with the printer at this time.". I believe I followed all setup steps correct for adding printer with IP (LPD, IP address, Queue name, and selected Canon i960), as I was able to get the wireless setup for MacAir without problem. Wondering whether anyone had any tips getting iMac to work with the print server. Below are the screen shot of the setup and error.

Thank you, PAHU, this solved a problem I've been having for quite a while.
I have a Canon Pixma iP4200 connected to a DSL router (an SFR Neufbox 4, issued here in France by the operator SFR). With OS 10.6 on my daughter's MacBook Pro, connecting to the printer through the print share function on this DSL router worked fine using the printer drivers supplied through Canon and Apple. Then when we got an iMac with 10.7, impossible to get it to work. I had exactly the error shown by louiema above.
But now that I installed Gutenprint 5.2.9, I was able to configure the connection instantly, and now I can move my printer back where it belongs, and not have it sitting on the floor beside my desk.
Brilliant ! Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I will now share this solution with my francophone community.

  • HP webservices tab not available when using HP Jetdirect 2700w wireless print server

I recently bought HP Laserjet Enterprise 500 m551 dn color laser printer with HP jetdirect 2700w wireless print server ( one day old at this time).
I was able to configure the device and enable/ use eprint services using the embedded server with a wired connection.
However when I attach a the mentioned wireless print server, the "Webservices" tab disappears from the configuration website, the printer reports that the eprint services are not enabled and ofcourse hp eprint or google cloud print do not work. The printer appears offline at eprintcenter. Everything else works fine.
On the product website for the wireless server, it clearly states that this is compatible with eprint services.

  • Resolution - Printing HP LaserJet & Linksys Wireless Print Server WPS54GU2

    Hello Guys:
After trying to figure out for 10 days and calling HP, Applet and Linksys support, i finally am able to print to my printer.
I have iMac running Tiger 10.4.8. I have a HP LaserJet 1012 Printer connected in a USB Port to the Wireless Print Server WPS54GU2. This is what I did to get it working.
    First install the following drivers:
    1) Go to http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/hpijs/ and download hpijs-foomatic-2.0.2.ppc.dmg and espgs-7.07.1.ppc.dmg file. Install hpijs first and espgs second.
    2) After that Go to Server Preferences, Double click on Print/Fax.
    3) Click on the "+" sign, select Line Printer Daemon - LPD
    4) In the Address field, enter the IP address of your print server.
    5) In the Queue name (This is very important). I used L2 for USB. You can try P1, L1 as well. Not sure how you have connected to the print server. For me L2 worked. I had tried using L1 and P1 and it didn't work for me.
    6) The Name field should automatically be populated.
    7) In the Print Using, select HP and then select "HP LaserJet 1012 Foomatic/hpijs" as the printer or whatever driver you have for your printer.
    8) Click on Add
And now open up text edit or something and you should be able to print.
let me know if there are any questions.

Try Repairing permissions (Disk Utility). Then restart, then add again.
What do you mean by the printer doesn't show up - the driver (print using:)?
You can try the generic HP Photosmart P1100 Gimp-Print driver that comes in OS X.

  • How to set up new MBP to use D-Link print server

New to Mac.  MBP found 2 of my 3 printers right away.  Tried manually configuring the 3rd which is an older HP Laserjet 1320 connected via USB to a D-Link print server.  In Win you config using the IP address and port name.  Configuration appeared to work but nothing gets sent to printer.  If this is an easy fix I would like to go that route  but if the print server hardware is too old please suggest good alternative that will work for both Windows and Mac systems as I have both in the house.
    Thanks

I was able to resolve this by rebooting the print server.

  • Can't find printer on print server

    Macbook 10.7.4
    PS121 print server from netgear
    MP500 Canon printer
OK I can print from all my xp computers.
I can access the print server from Safari
I have tried to set up IP printing with the print server ip address 192.168.0.4 and it recognizes it as a valid IP address but does not seem to see the printer behind it.
I have boot camp running and can print from the xp side of things on the macbook. So it has got to be an config problem somewhere.

OK here is how I did it.
    MacBook

Linkstation Network drive acting as print server
    Windows network
    Canon Pixma MP500 printer
This took about three weeks to solve so I am trying to piece together the correct path you need to take.
Make sure you have ”on” print sharing under your “system preferences”.
Under firewall tab and the advanced tab Uncheck all “UDP,Logging and Steath.” I am going to start to turn these back on for security reasons but this is how I got it to work for me.
First I went to Printfab.net and got the print driver for the Canon MP500. This is good for Mac OSX tiger. I installed the program. At first I was not seeing the print drivers on my system. I had to get the print drivers to install so first I had to try to set up a printer. So I "Add printer" and under the name I typed "Canon PrintFab" This showed me all the the print drivers that were installed with the printfab program. It seems that once I did that they we installed so I can view them all the time in “Printer Setup Utility”.
You need to find out the path for you print driver. I was not able to actually see my print driver in the “finder viewer” but I could view the path to the directories on the networked drive. As I recall I had a netgear print server PS121 installed previously and I was able to see it. So to get the correct path name you are going to need under “finder” select network. You should then see you networked server name. Mine was “Mshome” because I am sharing this computer with three other windows based computers and I am hooking up to a windows started network. Under “mshome” I can see my network drive. Now you need to “mount the drive” so double click it and you we be asked to “select the SMB/CIFS shared volume you want to connect to” I selected the “shared folder” on the drive. Now it shows up as an icon on the “finders” left side. Now highlight it and “get info” from the menu bar. Under the general line I saw “server: cifs://mshome;danr@link/share. This is what it means. “mshome” is my networked name that the print server is on. “danr” is my account name on my mac. This is the name I see in finder that has all my docs and files under. “link is the name of the network drive.
Now I went back to "add Printer" Put the protocol to "IPP" and hold down the alt key and hit the "more printers" button at the bottom. Up pulls the list and select "advanced" option. Select " Windows Printer via Samb". In the device name you will want to enter the device that the printer is called. Mine happens to be "lp" Next under “device URL” after smb:// my line looked like this smb://mshome;danr@link/lp this is the info I got previous from finder. After “mshome” there is a semi-colon no a colon. Now under “model” I selected the Printfab driver for my Canon and then hit the “add” button.
And that was it I printed a test page under the utility program to test it.

  • I want to know if Ican connect a print server (to print with several wireless printers) to the new airport express given that it has wan and lan ports. Tks!

The print server that I want to connect allows me to choose among 2 usb printers and 01 serail port printer. It needs to be connected to a router through a lan port. Given that the all new airport express now come with a wan and a lan port, i want to know if I can connect this device to the airport express.

    You're welcome.
Beware that while USB print servers are commonly available and inexpensive, finding one with a serial port is more of a challenge. Apple Stores in the US do not sell them. Call the iStore before going there.
If you need recommendations for obtaining a print server with a serial port, let me know.
