DSL speed going down to 0.74 at night....NEED ADVICE
what would my issue be with DSL going down to 0.74mbps at night? for about a couple weeks now, verizon has been in contact with me about this issue, during the day my speeds are great, but no matter what verizon does, it dips at nite. today the tech put me on a different circuit and the tech support over the phone says I can't handle the 7.1, but the 2 techs that I had out to my house say I can handle it fine. So I guess the 3rd tier support lowered me down to 5 Mbps, so like I told them its not the speed that is making this happen, so sure enough night comes and im under 1 Mbps, morning time comes 7 Am or so and im back up to the rated speed they have me at. when I was at the 7.1mbps I was able to reach s 6.7mbps thought the day. Now they have me on 5 Mbps and its exactly at 5 the whole day till night fall. I don't know what else they can check, not sure if my modem is messing up at night, but its pretty frustrating, they call me asking if its working, and i keep telling them its not my connection, i can connect fine, never loose signal, my night speed is the problem. Im not aware of how long this has been going on, since i just upgreaded to the 7.1 and have been checking the speeds to make sure im getting what im paying for....below is my modem info, this is at the 5mbps package. Thanks for any help

Well after 2 techs coming to my house, about a dozen of tech support calls,3rd tier supervisor help, I got to speak with someone in the maintenance dept, she bumped me back up to the 7.1 Mbps, and put me on a different circuit with alot less customers, and sure enough last nite i was at full speed all thoughout the night.

DSL speed slow down after 10.5 upgrade :(
Hello all,
I have a question, and need the Apple cyber-community to help me with this one.
I have A.T.& T.'s DSL service. I have a 2WIRE 1701HG router-DSL modem. I HAD 1.2mg download speed 99% of the time with MacOS 10.4.x. Yes I know that it is not very fast, but I live in the country side and am at the VERY VERY end of the line of service.
After I upgraded to MacOS 10.5.x, my down load speeds have slowed down to around 200 to 850bps. I have checked my hardware, and all seems fine. I called A.T.&.T and they ran a speed check and said I was getting 1.5 speed. Any ideas how to fix the issue?
Thanks,
Apple //GSPS: "Get a Windows Vista computer!!" That was what I got from the tech at A.T.&T. "They don't have this problem....................."

I'm going to be buying an iMac and need advice
HI Everyone, I'm going to be buying an iMac. I'm trying to figure out the specs and such that I want.
Background:
I've had a MacPro 1,1 for 8 years and it was more than enough for my needs. I liked having several different hard drives to back-up data but found that 1 tb seemed to be the most I would use (ended up backing-up data onto the other drives). Unfortunately it died and now I'm shopping for a new mac.
What I'll be using my mac for:
1) Managing content (iTunes data)
2) Photos
3) Programming (working with Xcode)
4) Photoshop
5) Photoshop Lightroom
6) Illustrator
7) Microsoft apps
8) Diablo
9) Starcraft
10) WoW (very rarely because of time constraints)
So I pretty much figure I want an 1 TB Fusion drive. And I want 8 - 16 gb of RAM. What processor should I get and video card. There might be some point that I'm playing games so I'm curious if I should shoot for an i7 processor or just an i5. As well, a 1 gb video card, intel HD, or 2gb card. I think with the video card and and processor it is a matter of longevity rather than performance at this moment (since non of the games I'll ever play are processor intensive). Any thoughts on this are greatly appreciated. I'm buying in Dec and am going to see what comes out in Oct. I definitely need a new computer. Been running an 128 gb hard drive Macbook Air all summer and going to pull my hair out if I can't get access to all my data soon.

Look at the Pelican line.
http://www.pelican-case.com/1095.html
This is ne of many they offer, this is brand most TV crews use. You can call them they have a ton of cases to offer, it depends on how it is going to used.
Something like this for power, this is a grey area to recommend as it depends on what the voltage supply is doig, the heavier duty, the more $$$
The solar charger you will have to do some research, I could,nt find anything that looked promising.

HT4623 iphone 4 volume goes down automatically
My iphone 4 does not saty in a volume that I set it goes down without any explanation everything ok I get text call but I see the volume icon shows up and goes down without me doing anything I need my phone I'm in a set income I cannot afford many things any help I would be thankfull
I had a very similar problem with my 4S. The volume up button was ridiculously sensitive. You could just lightly touch it with your finger and the volume would go up. Sometimes the volume would seemingly go up on its own. I took the phone to the Apple Store and the guy there replaced the phone for free since I was under warranty. I suggest you try the same.

Help!! I'm using a Mid 2012 MBP retina 2.3Ghz i7 with 8GB of ram 256SSD. for the past 2 years my write speeds has been consistently on 400MB/s and up via black magic test. but now it only have 100MB/s going down to 80MB/s. what should I do???? I have already cleaned and even restored my MBP still it's on 100MB/s. please help. I have to finish tasks on a timely manner.
No. This requires completely repartitioning the SSD. You can do that only by using the Network Recovery method or the method I outlined. My method preserves all your data and doesn't require doing a slow Network Recovery. But if you wish to do that instead. The purpose of the whole exercise is to "clean" the SSD of garbage collected during use that tends to cause the SSD to slow down as you've described.
Install OS X Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button. Set Zero Data - one-pass, click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer. -
Extremely slow DSL speeds. Up speed higher than Down speed. Please help.
I just purchased the 1.1 - 3.0Mbps hi-speed DSL package.
Verizon speed test shows .17Mbps down and .536Mbps up. This is obviously curious for two reasons: 1) the incredibly slow down speed, and 2) the down speed being slower than the up speed.
Curiously, speedtest.net shows different results:
2.45Mbps down, .55Mbps up
What could this mean? Transceiver data follows.

Solved!
Go to Solution.OK. It seems as though you're suffering from what some people call "Juniperitus." If you're on a Remote DSLAM that uses Alcatel Litespan equipment (Litespan 2000 for example) along with being connected to a Juniper Networks ERX edge router, there tends to be an incompatibility between the two pieces of equipment that causes TCP connections and pretty much any other form of transfer to see artificial packet loss, which results in transmission. This results in inefficiency in every transfer, so what you're seeing is simply a result of all of this. In the past when Verizon first installed Litespan, they were using older Redback Networks edge routers, which did not create such problems. I'm on a Litespan and happen to still be on a Redback in my area (one of remaining ones still in operation in my area) and I get my max line speed with no issue. It's unfortunate that these actually perform better despite the Junipers being far better edge routers in terms of capacity.
I know someone who should be able to get this fixed for you. I'll send you a Private Message.

Bt Infinity speed in going down and down
Welcome All
I have a problem with Bt infinity option 2. Since I jon BT in June this year my download and upload speed is constantly going down every months. First There was 47/17 with 54/19 max on my line is OK. After few weeks 46/16, after few weeks 42/16, after that 40/15, after that 38/13, 38/12, 36/12, I checked on BT site my brodband speed and its been changed to max 54/13. Then I called CS and after 24h My speed has gone up to 42/12 and after few weeks (now) is 29/8.5. I choose infinity option 2 to get the best possible speed from my line but this is not what I expected. In that case by the end of contract I will end up with 0/0 I wrote 2 complaints but there was no answer at all. Yesterday when I called CS they redirect me to technicall support and I've been told that BT can give me minimum 50% of estimated speed on my line and that is OK, There is no fault on the line, my PC is working fine.
That meens BT is changing my speed, ip profile was 48/20 at the beginning now is 31/20
And one thing, I've been told that upload speed dont have a minimum so I can end up with 0 without problem
anyone has an idea what to do?I did not notice any works near the cabinet, i've sent an email to mods. Maybe there is a chance to reset ip profile so it can be checked ones again? As i tried reset hub several times over last few weeks and propably i make it worse but i didnt know about how resetting your hub affected ip profile and line looks line dont deal with the amount of data or something. Im waiting for response from mods and in mean time maybe some of you can give me more advice what to do.
And one thing: when i do speedcheck on btwholesale.com on the results when the download green bar is "Max Achievable Speed 0Mbps" is it that strange? should be max ip profile or something. on upload green bar there is 20Mbps as ip profile -
I have been without internet for a week. Verizon finally fixed the problem yesterday afternoon and my internet service was restored but now I have super slow DSL speeds. 0.36 dowload & 0.54upload.
I am tired of calling tech support and being told to reboot my computer, modem, yadda yadda. There is something else going on here and need to figure out if it is with the modem itself or the line. All the line tests the tech support people have done come back normal.
The modem is reporting the OAM ping test as failing in Far End F4 Loop Back Count & Near End F4 Loop Back Count. No idea what that means.....
The speed from the modem itself is listed as:
Speed(Down/Up):
416 / 640 Kbps
I've done ipconfig flush dns, ipconfig release, ipconfig renew, etc etc. In home agent is reporting a problem with the dsl signal and just instructs me to reset the modem which does not help.
The modem is old, GT704WG from verizon. I am thinking about going out and buying a new one but don't want to do that if it is not going to fix the problem. It just seems odd that last week internet speed was fine and now it is slow as hell.
I had no internet or phone this week which they are claiming it was due to a line being pinched when my house was re-stuccod in December(granted internet and phone worked fine up until last Sunday). Verizon went under the house and fixed the line, phone & internet came back on. When I logged onto the browser I was prompted to activate my verizon service( I guess because it had been out for a week). Did that, got onto websites but connection is extermely slow and I am at my wits end.
I've spent more time on the phone this week with the unhelpful verizon people then I spend all year talking to my relatives and I really don't want to call them back and sit on the phone for another 45 min to an hour.
Anything I can do to diagnose and possibly fix this?I appreciate you taking the time to answer my post, however your tools do nothing to tell me what is going on nor am I going to schedule yet another repair.
This past week when I had a "repair" scheduled, I was told they would be out on wednesday to fix our problem. No time frame was given for when this repair would take place. My retired father waited at the house the entire day only to have the repair man show up at 4:30pm who told us it was too late in the day to wait 5 min for us to move some boxes out of the closet that were over our crawl space so he could go under the house and fix the damaged wire. Instead he ran a long phone line from our box to our kitchen phone, told us this was a temporary solution and that if we called the repair center in the morning someone would come out in the morning and fix it.
We called in the morning, only again to be given no time frame for the repair. My father again waited all day, this time no one showed up. Even after he called 3 x's that day trying to get information on when the tech would be there....
Finally on Friday after spending another entire day waiting for a repair man did one show up around 3 in the afternoon one did, he went under the house and fixed the wire and our phone service was finally restored after 4 days. The dsl finally came back on albeit at a super slow speed as I am experiencing now.
Right now I am currently calling around to get rate quotes from other providers for our phone, internet, tv, & wireless. My experience with your "customer support" has soured me to verizon even though I have been with you guys for 10 plus years. I don't want to spend one more day waiting for repair man who may or may not show up. I don't want to spend another hour to hour and a half on the phone with some man in India who is just going to ask me to reboot my pc and modem over and over again and run a "line test" which is the same thing your automated phone service asks you to do as well.
Your company just doesn't get it when it comes to customer service. I pay my bill every month on time and in the 10 plus years I've been with you this is one of three times I've called for support. Each time I've had a horrible experience and the only thing that has kept me with you is that most of the time the service works as it should. I have heard FIOS is relatively trouble free, at least in my neighborhood, which is the only reason I am still considering the upgrade but if I do find a more reasonable deal with a company that has a better record for customer service I will be cancelling my order. I have a few weeks left to decide. It's unfortunate too because there are some nice folks that work at verizon but your company philosophy towards customer service has changed the bigger you've gottena and you've lost touch with what your customer's need from you. -

Compared to the average of 633 tests from verizon.net:
* download is 97% worse, upload is 98% worse
I pay for the 768kb or better plan. The up speed 122 out of 160, is almost acceptable, but the download speed is awful. It's been like this for over two weeks now. The modem itself says it's connected at 544 now; sometimes it's as high as 608, but the REAL spped is much, much lower as evidenced by the speed test above.
I have power-cycled my modem, removed my LAN (leaving one PC connected to the modem), removed any telephony device that's not a phone (a fax machine and a direcTV reciever), and put in a shorter phone wire for the modem. This brought me to the speed above, which is still not even 50% of what I pay for. Everything is properly filtered. My house does not have a phone line terminal with a test jack, so don't ask me to test the modem there.

Please ask me if there any more technical data needed to help me out.I am also having problems with Verizon speeds. This started the first part of August. My speeds were cosnsitantly around 1013 to 1084, I am paying for 1 mbps service.. Then the problems started. The speed would upstream speed would go down to under 500 and a few times went to 0. I contacted service and theyran tests and could find no problems. Finally, after 3 weeks of speaking with about 6 different customer reps, I contacted Consumer Affairs.
I then received a call from a senior accounts rep and at first he was more than happy to help. A service tech was dispatched and found a problem at the NIB. The speed increased dramatically. He told me that I had a very good line to the CO.
A few days later the problem started again. I called the senior rep again and he said he would try to resolve the problem.
Again, the problem went away, but kept coming back. The rep then started to tell me about the distance to the CO and traffic on the internet. He could not explain why the speeds were so high before and kept insisting that i was too far from the CO. He told me that due to the distance from the CO that I could not expect the 1mbps rate. When I tried to explain that this problem ahd just started, he again told me that nothing could be done. When I explained that I was getting 928 downstream and 484 upstream he told me that was all I could expect.
I kept calling and finally (while I was not home) I received a voicemail from the technician and the senior rep that they had reconfigured my line and all should be fine.
This lasted about 1 week and the speed again dropped down.
This time to 864 and 160. Cycling the modem used to resolve the issue. Not any more.I am LOCKED at the lower speeds.
I have been calling the senior account rep and he refuses to return my calls.
I am going to give them one more day to respond and then reopen my case with Consumer Affairs. -
I just upgraded to this Mainboard w/3.20Ghz processor. I can connect to the internet through my DSL modem but, my speed is down to 33.5kbs ???
I am using the mainboard LAN.Sorry for the delay guys.
The problem was "Spyware" My wife went online without the firewall and anti-virus installed. The modem could not keep up with all the programs trying to access the internet. Zone Alarm bailed me out this time. Did a hard drive format....re-installed XP,firewall and anti-virus and all is well now. Thanks for the replys. -
ASA has to be failed over when primary ISP goes down.
I have an outside 7206 router that is configured with BGP. Behind that I have an ASA 5520 with a failover. Everytime my primary ISP goes down I have to failover the ASA to restablish a connection to the secondary ISP. When the primary comes back on line I have to fail it over again. I have had Cisco TAC look at the ASA and they didn't see anything misconfigured on the ASA. Doesn't seem to be any problems with the router config either. Any Ideas on what could be causing this?
Thanks for your responses. Sorry, I'm new to this. Here are the configs and a simple pic of the primary asa and router the way thery are deployed. I've been dealing with issue for a while. Hoping to get some help here.

[Resolved] eth0 connection is going down
hi, i have a problem
sometimes my internet eth0 is going down, firefox not open pages, pacman no have connection.
i turn of and turn on and i have again internet connection.
Last edited by emanuelx (2012-11-08 14:05:57)i'm not sure if i'm experiencing the same problem as the OP, but recently (don't know since when, exactly) i also can't get get my network up on eth0 once it's gone, like after suspending to RAM.
System: Host: laptop Kernel: 3.6.6-1-ARCH x86_64 (64 bit) Desktop: KDE 4.9.2 Distro: Arch Linux
Network: Card-1: Realtek RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller driver: r8169
IF: eth0 state: up speed: 100 Mbps duplex: full mac: c8:60:00:02:f1:09
restarting NetworkManager.service doesn't help. /etc/resolv.conf is correct, 'ip route' shows the proper routes, and ifconfig says that eth0 is up & running.
i can ping my own IP, but nothing else, neither internet nor LAN. the only thing that brings the network up again is a reboot (warm is fine). couldn't find anything in journalctl or everything.log (i'm keeping syslog-ng running for now). oh: i'm running systemd, since a couple months, and w/o problems until now.

My DSL has slowed down over the last few months
Guys;
My DSL has slowed down over the last few months. I had the service that is up to 1.5 M and I used to get 1.2 ish on the verizon speed test, lately I've been getting between .9 and 1.0 at the most. I got the info from the speed test and here is a portion of that info:
------ Web100 Detailed Analysis ------
Client Receive Window detected at 1045440 bytes.
Cable modem/DSL/T1 link found.
Link set to Full Duplex mode
Information: throughput is limited by other network traffic.
Good network cable(s) found
Normal duplex operation found.
SHould I be concerned by the portion that I bolded and underlined?
Also, I just last night upgraded my service to the 1.1 to 3.0 service but I've not gotten a speed increase. Any suggestions?
ThanksHere is a complete post of the information from the verizon speed test:

The battery life is going down fast
I bought a Macbook Pro about four days ago and I used it for about two cycles (In the 'system information' panel it is saying two cycles) and the battery life is at 96% in iStat Pro so I though that the percentage is going down rapidly...
And I saw on the apple website that the batteries are made to get some great performance up to 1000 cycles without going under 80% of battery life...
Does the battery life will stop decreasing or is it will keep the same decreasing speed ? Othewise if it keeps the same stats it will be at 80% after 10 cycles...
ThanksHave you tried calibrating the battery (as in the readings accuracy)? It appears that the battery life %age fluctuates up and down from what I am seeing on mine. At times it would go down to 96% on Health, both on istats and coconut, as of now my battery health reading says 99%, earlier today it said 96%. I come to think that this is normal and I would not worry about it. Keep using your MBP for a while and see what happens. My cycle says 13 btw.
