DSP CRASHES ON BUILD WITH CLOSED CAPTION FILE

I've done a search but haven't found a problem similar to mine yet.
I'm using DSP 2.05 and trying to author a DVD with closed captioning. Every time I go to Build/Format, whether it's to a DVD-R or a Disc image DSP shuts down with no error messages at all.
I can successfully Build/Format the same project to a DVD-R or Disc image if I leave out the closed captioning file(.SCC).
Any ideas what the problem might be?
Please let me know if you need more information.
Thanks for any suggestion!

Thanks for the suggestion!
I trashed all the parsing files and anything that wasn't vital but haven't tried the Preferences yet. I'll try it and see what happens.

  • Open with "Closed Captioning" on, or always show CC

I want to have my projects start with "closed captioning". I tried to down load the little SWF file, from the third party, recommended elseware, but it doesn't seem to work. It says it was made for Captivate 4, and I'm using 5.
Any help? Is there another way to set CC as the default?

Robert, I think the issue here is that after you insert the new slide and drag it to the first of the presentation, you then defeat the purpose of adding the new slide because you then configure THAT slide to execute the advanced action to set the variable.
The point of introducing a new slide is to introduce a delay that gives the presentation time to "settle" before turning on the Closed Captioning.
The bottom line is that you insert the slide, move it to the beginning and configure the timing for perhaps .1 or .2 seconds. THEN execute the action on the SECOND slide.
Give that a try and see if things improve.

  • Reading Closed Caption Files

Is there an application that can handle converting .scc files to a readable document.
I have a lot of DVDs with closed captioning and I have all of the .scc files, I need to convert these into transcript files that a person can read.
    Any input appreciated.
    Thanks

I know pro apps like MacCaption can do it.
But for something simple like decoding SCC to text Annotation Edit will do the job.

  • Multiple Closed Captioning files?

Is it possible to assign multiple CC files to one video? Or, is there a workaround that someone can share? Thanks.

Closed captioning is associated with one track at a time on a DVD.
There can only be one, SCC file that is associated to each video track.
Video tracks can only have one closed caption file associated per video track.

  • Digital closed caption file encoder

I have traditionally left CC service in the hands of the digital media distributor,
but recently I have a couple of clients asking about bringing it in house.
This thread clearly explains CC export capability from CS5.5 is via print to tape,
    not file export.
Is there an industry standard digital closed caption file encoder?
Does anyone have any experience with using PixelTools to
insert closed captioning into an MPEG stream for broadcast?

Out of the box it is not available.   From html5 the track element can be used to display closed captions, subtitles etc....
Have you tried overlay [1] and modify video.jsp to include the track element.

  • How do I burn subtitles created with closed captioning onto export?

I have created the closed caption files for 10 languages. These are already linked to the online platform where it is viewable.
I would now like to export the sequence with the 10 languages as self contained files for distribution.

  • Problems with Closed Captioning (subtitles)

The last upgrade of the STB software fixed many of the problems with closed captioning.  However, there are still a number of problems.  For those of us with hearing impairment, it would really be nice if they got it right.  Now, at least all of the closed captioned dialog shows up (which it didn't used to do -- before, it would overwrite itself on certain stations).  However, some of the dialog shows up on the screen for only a fraction of a second -- too fast to read it.  Please help us hearing impaired people!!!!!

  • Encoding videos with closed captioning / subtitles

Now that closed captioning is supported on videos rented / purchased from iTMS, it is clear that the functionality is now supported on the Apple TV. Is anyone aware of any tool(s) that allow subtitles to be included? I already can embed the subtitles into the video using the various tools, but I am seeking a way to have true closed captioning that can be toggled on / off.
As far as I know, the MP4 container does not support any type of subtitles in the container format. Therefore, Apple must be using a different format for its videos. Is it proprietary or some standard container format?

Do not confuse Subtitles with Closed Captioning. For now, the only way to support subtitles is to place them in the video.

  • Help! Every app crashes when interacting with plain text files

I recently bought a 13" i7 MacBook Air. I love its design and I found OS X Lion unbelievably fast on it, yet I find myself in a very dark situation, now.
From the Finder to iA Writer, to TextEdit, every single app crashes when working with plain text files. In Finder’s column view I don’t even have to open them: the instant one .txt is selected, Finder crashes.
Creating a new user account seems to fix the bug for that account, but I just spent one whole day copying files from my old work MacBook (where Lion opened .txt files without a problem) to the new account and losing another entire day of work because of a stupid bug is out of question. Also, I feel it would be a very temporary fix. What if the bug presented itself again? Would I have to create a third, a fourth account, and so on?
I didn’t use any migration tool because I wanted a very clean installation.
On top of that, the machine is as App Store–only as one could be. The only “internet” apps I have on it are Chrome (for the occasional Flash video), Movist (I can’t work with Quicktime’s flying controls), and nvALT. I didn’t even had the time to install the Creative Suite on this one. I can’t for the life of me think this is app–related. I suspect it’s some weird OS bug.
I work in advertising, and I do some work in Adobe’s Creative Suite but *all* my copy is stored in plain text files. I always did it that way so that my files would be future–proof. It is kind of ironic now. So please, if anyone as the slightest idea of how to fix this, please, please, help. I find myself with a brand new computer I can’t use for work.

    What are the files named?
Where are they being made? (What folder?)

  • Problem with Closed Captioning

I'm using Cp 5.5.  I have a click box that's set to Open Url or file.  I have selected the options to open the new url in a new window, and I've de-selected the checkbox to Continue playing the project.  So when the user clicks the click box, a new window opens with the linked-to web page, and the main project, including the audio, pauses.  So far, so good.  But the problem is with the closed captioning.  If the closed captioning is turned on, it acts as if the audio has not paused (even though it has), and when the audio would have finished, the closed captioning goes away.  When the user returns to the main project and clicks the Play/Pause button in the playbar, the audio picks up where it paused, but the closed captioning has already disappeared for that slide.
Is this a bug?  Has anyone else seen this behavior?
    Thanks for any insights.
    Mister C.

There have previously been some discussions here and on other forums on CC issues and my understanding is:
    1) the SD STB (QIP2500) does not support CC. What you are seeing is your TV interpreting the CC data, not the STB. So if something is being dropped, it is the TV doing it, not the STB, or maybe the characters really are not there.
    2) The HD STBs do support CC. I have seen some complaints here and on other forums about the text not remaining on the screen long enough; I do not use CC myself, but I have turned it on and off a number of times, and my HD DVR seems to leave it up a reasonable amount of time, but that is just my impression.
There is no software upgrade available for now that I know of. There is supposed to be a new level later this year with new functions and fixes, I have no idea whether there is going to be anything in it that would address your CC issues.
Hope this maybe helps a little bit.

  • Applying a closed-captioned file to track

I'm working on my first real DVD SP project in 4.0. I'm trying to apply a .scc file from my caption house to my video track. When I go to Build I get a message that says "Closed Captioning syntax error @ line 460." I realize one potential problem I have is that my Time code on the .scc file is 1 hour off. In preferences on DVD SP I set the encode to start at 1 hour, hoping that would compensate.
I guess the bigger question, or maybe the one I should be asking first is can DVD SP even encode the .scc file into my QT video asset. From the manual, it seems like it can, but I 've talked with people who say no, it needs to be embedded in the video ahead of time.
Thanks. Any info will be appreciated.
    JD

    Hi Jeff,
I have successfully done this several times using DVDSP, but more commonly I am supplied with pre encoded material.
I am not sure whether slipping the timecode within DVDSP is also applicable to closed captions. I would synchronise your mpeg's timecode either via your encoding solution or restripe the mpeg using restream, Mpeg Append.
    Good Luck

  • Can you export a .srt closed captioned file from Captivate 8?

When I try to export it gives me a Word file that doesn't have any time stamps. Thanks!

From everything I've seen it isn't possible to export closed captions to .srt. As an alternative I'm hoping someone has come up with a way to convert the closed captions Word file to an srt file. Any takers?

  • Help with closed captioning

Does anyone know how to correct the following issue: the
closed captioning works the first time you play the slide. However,
if I return to the slide and replay it, the close captioning no
    longer appears. Any ideas?

    Welcome to our community, mkovner08
When you say the Closed Captioning no longer appears, do you
mean to say that the area where it would appear no longer has the
highlighted section? Or is the section visible, but the Closed
Captioning text refuses to be presented on the section as it
    normally is?
I've tested here on my own PC and it seems to work with no
issue. I can play a slide over and over and see Closed Captioning.
Perhaps try restarting Captivate or clearing the Temp files and
    rebooting the PC?

  • Vhs to dvd with closed captioning

i was able to transfer video clips from a vhs tape to a dvd (vcr > camcorder > mac) in iMovie then export to iDVD and burn the disk thereafter. I need the closed captioning to be tagged along to a dvd disk. How?
    Thanks

The National Captioning Institute (NCI) could also be helpful. Here's a site with info on decoders (so if the TV option didn't work, you could possibly use a process like VCR/decoder/camcorder/to Mac
    http://www.ncihelpdesk.org/index.php?c=30&kat=Decoder%2FAudioLink
Here's NCI's description of captioning, "Closed captioning is the process whereby captions are converted to electronic codes and inserted in the regular television signal, specifically on Line 21, a portion of the picture normally not seen. There are 525 horizontal lines in the television picture. Line 21 appears at the top of the picture and occurs just prior to the start of the lines carrying picture information." (see www.ncicap.org)

  • ColdFusion Builder with case sensitive file system on Mac?

    Hi there,
I tried to install CF Builder on my MacBook Pro (Intel), OS-X 10.5.7 with case sensitive file system. Installation went smoothly, but, when I try to launch CF Builder, I get an error saying that the "architecture is not supported". Is it just nor possible to have CF Builder on a case sensitive fs?

I am having the same issue and logged in here to see what the deal is.
After I installed cfbuilder my flex builder crapped out as well.
The cfbuilder logs (which were conveniently scattered throughout my system for no reason) report that I am running:

But if I run "java -version" in terminal I get:
