DSP simulater reacts different that AppleDVD???

In my DVDSP project, i'm doing some tests with Layered menus.
basically, i have 4 options/buttons, and each button has 1 image associated with it and changes as the user navigates to different buttons.
when i simulate the project the cursor and buttons react much like a standard menu in regards to rolling over a button causes each button to react and show the new image associated with it.
BUT, when i burn the disk and play it in the Apple DVD player, i must manually Click on each button once to change the image and a second time to play the corresponding movie.
is this normal, or do i have some kind of setting on or off?
does anyone work with Layered Munus often?

Sadly, it's normal for the vast majority of players out there... and you have perfectly described one of the main limitations of using layer based menus. For this reason, plus the fact that you cannot have audio, combined with the sluggish way they react, most folk don't use layer menus.
However, they do have their uses in certain situations, and the choice of whether or not you use them depends on just what you want to achieve visually. It is quite possible (but tedious) to set up a very similar system by manually creating a series of linked menus which show each state on a button and auto activate to simulate roll over behaviour.
You can also use a simple overlay menu and make use of masking off areas to achieve a similar effect of revealing an image when a button is selected. This will work faster than any linked system or layer based menu, but also has a few limitations.

D600 RAW files look different that D300 raw files

Please help me understand what's going on and more importantly, how to fix it.
RAW files from my D300 and my D600 look completely different. These are both NEF files, imported to Lightroom 4.2 using exactly the same import preset. I did NOTHING to either file, except that the D300 one was at 1/160 second and the D600 one was at 1/200 second, so I changed exposure on the D300 one by 1/3 stop so they would match. What I did was to shoot the D300 picture, then carefully changed the lens over to the D600 without moving anything, changed the D600 to DX mode to match the field of view and shot the same picture. The files should be essentially identical.

You will notice that the saturation on the D600 image is much higher. And it's much more yellow. The pictures were shot 2 minutes apart, from the same spot. Same lens, same camera settings.
First thing I did was to change the color temperature and tint to match: from 4150/+6 to 4200/+2. There was no visible change (I'm looking at them in compare mode in Lightroom on a calibrated monitor).
Next, I tried to change the D600 image to match the D300 one. I had to make substantial changes to both color balance and saturation of various colors, as well as contrast and black levels to get close. I'd give you absolute numbers but it varies from image to image. In this case, I had to drop the color temperature to 3500, for instance. The easiest way to do this was to use the white balance eyedropper on a grey area in the road.
I'm wondering if this is related to how LR handles the D600 NEF files. LR 4.2 says the D600 algorithm is 'preliminary'. Could this be part of it?
Anyone else here have a D600 and noticed the same thing?

I'm not really good at using the right technical terms. Let me go back to basics.
Adobe came out with Lightroom 4.2 which has (preliminary) support for the D600. I installed it. I put the memory card from the camera into the card reader and Lightroom popped up because that's what I had set for the default for uploading photos. I told it which folder to store the image in (J:photos/2012-10/2012-10-05) and where to put a second copy (D:/px/lightroom import copies). Then I told LR to "save Current Settings as New Preset..." and I named it "D600 imports". Then I clicked "Import".
When I looked at the files afterwards in Lightroom, the sliders were all at zero except for the ones I noted before. I don't know why Lightroom chose 25 for the sharpening, but it did. Coincidentally, that's the same number it chooses for my D300 imports. I also don't know why it chose a color temp of 4200 and a tint of +4 (I was shooting on auto white balance).
Then I plugged in the card from the D300. I decided not to touch the preset (which still said "D600 imports") and I clicked "Import". The files went to the same folders and presumably, had the same sharpening and other slider levels applied.
Now when I look at the camera calibration in the develop module, under profile it says "Adobe Standard" on the D300 images and "Beta" on the D600 images, so Lightroom somehow knows which camera I used and sets itself accordingly.
At no time did my fingers ever leave my hand, and I did not modify, click on or even breathe on any of the Lightroom default settings. FWIW, my programming days are 35 years behind me and I'm a total non-tekkie user now. I wouldn't know how to 'hack' the D300 files if my life depended on it.
I know that conditions could have changed in the 98 seconds between the D600 shot and the D300 shot. Trust me when I say they didn't.
Regarding Noise Reduction: as far as I know, there are only two user accessible settings in the cameras: "Long Exposure Noise Reduction" and "High ISO Noise Reduction". Generally I have both of those on... but since these shots were at 1/200 sec and ISO 400, they wouldn't have kicked in anyway.
For WB, I used exactly the same spot on the road in both images. But you're right, I should use a grey target and I will next time.
To make the two pictures match as best I could tell onscreen (I changed the D600 image to match the D300 one), I had to change the temp from 4200 to 3500, the tint from +4 to +18, the exposure to -.33, shadows to -48, blacks to -19 (these are huge changes) and it still didn't look as good as the D300 image. It was 'harder' or 'crisper'. There was no mood, no softness to it. It's like looking at a "vivid" Jpeg vs. a "Standard" Jpeg, or a cooked HDR, if that makes any sense.
This isn't so much a complaint as a request for understanding, so that I know when I bring up an image, how to fix it. I shot a landscape and blew it up onscreen to 200%. I could see every leaf, every twig, every shadow's hard edge. That's not a bad thing, that's amazing: I just want to be able to control it.

Help! My Apple ID for my Itunes/Apps different that ICloud!?

Here is the issue, I can use the Itunes and Apps Apple ID to log in and purchase Apps on my phone and computer. However, when I go to Icloud and when I try to set up my Passbook, it has and old, inactive email address. I need to somehow reset the email address for Icloud so I can set up my passbook. Otherwise I cannot use Apple pay, etc. Any help on how to change this email address would be appreciated. Again, I am good with buying apps on my phone and computer so that ID and PW are fine, just the email address and PW for Icloud.
Plus, I keep getting this dang pop up asking me to log in and it has that old email address. Ugh..

The most current version of iTunes is iTunes 11, which you can download from the iTunes tab above.
As to the update problem, that will happen if you have apps from another iTunes Store account on your system, as is very likely the case if your daughter synched her iPhone to your computer. The only way around the problem is to delete from your iPad the apps purchased through her account and set iTunes on your computer not to sync those apps to your iPad.

Database link in forms is different that actual database name

I am using a database link in Oracle Forms 6i, however, the database link name for the referenced database is not the same as the actual databse service/instance name.
It does not work, and I suppose its something to do with the global names feature which is true in the source database it is in a replication group.
I would like to know whether the dblink name which I am using in oracle forms, does it have to have the same name as an entry in the tnsnames.ora file, or can be substituted thgrough any so-calld alias from within oracle forms?

I recently upgraded my development environment from Forms 10.1.2.0.2 to Forms 10.1.2.3 and am experiencing the same problem -- not able to COMPILE a form that references a database link. The error is: "Error 352 at line 99, column 3 Unable to access another database 'LINKNAME'". This occurs on an UPDATE statement within PL/SQL code in a form trigger that used to compile and work fine.
I tried the database link in SQL Plus and the link is working fine.
Database environment is 10g 10.2.0.3 on Windows Server 2003.
Is anyone able to do this?

Macbook drag and drop different that magic trackpad ?

Dear friends,
I have been using a Magic Trackpad with my 27" iMac for a long time and have it configured so that a slight single finger tap then enables the dragging of the current window or selection.
On my new rMBP I can achieve this only by clicking and keeping pressed and dragging (tiresome if I have to move long distances) or configure the three-finger drag I'm not used to.
Is there anyway to have the rMBP (10.8.2) behave like the Magic Trackpad ?

I don't usually use tap to click (hate it, personally), but turning it on, I can't find a way to drag a file using just taps and drags.
However, one thing that took me a while to figure out with the MBP is that you don't have to use the same finger you're dragging with to do the clicking. Despite the fact that the MBP's trackpad is multi-touch sensitive, and ordinarily using multiple fingers triggers a gesture of some kind, it seems to be smart enough that you can click with your thumb (as if there were a separate button) while dragging with your index finger, and this won't trigger a "pinch" gesture.
Dunno if that will help you or not.

Function in a view where the function owner is different that the view

we have a function that is in schema b which is used by a view in schema a. I am able to see the data in the view, but when the schema a user selects for the view he gets a view not found message. The view owner has execute on the function, and the function owner has full rights on the tables in the view?

In your scenario, it user "A" wants to select from the view, he should not receive any error like "table or view does not exist".
If you receive this error shilw connected to user "B", you must grant "SELECT ON view_name" privilege to the user "B".
Please use USER_TAB_PRIVS to see if you have SELECT privileges on this view. Please also p[aste exact error message

Reports builder alignment different that pdf aligned

I'm using Oracle Reports 10g
I have a report that output to a pdf, I have to make the report misaligned from report builder runtime (screen) so it aligned when it runs from the applications server development to pdf; that works in our development server & pdf is aligned
In out testing application server which has the same exact setup, the pdf is misaligned (all the time, althought it is aligned in development all the time)

10.4.7 Intel Update Problems (Apperntly different that the others)

I tried to run the update from Software Update and it didn't work.
After downloading everything it gave me an Error Message saying:
Error Reading Package

So I tried the Combo as some peole suggested in other threads, and it gave me the same error. I gave Disc Utility a try ad it said it needed some repairs, but the repair button was grayed-out.
So I restarted the Mac and now I can't launch Safari and Preview is also giving me an Error saying:
You cannot use the application "Preview" with this version of Mac OS X.
I checked for the version of Mac OS X at "About This Mac"
and it only says my serial number. The version number and the build number of the OS are gone.
How can i fix this?

Did you re-run the Combo Updater? If so then it's likely that something got corrupted either before you did the original update or during it. Some things you might try:
Drag the following files to the trash:
com.apple.kernelcaches (a folder in /System/Library/Caches)
Extensions.kextcache (a file in /System/Library)
Extensions.mkext (a file in /System/Library/)
com.apple.ATS (a folder in /Library/Caches/)
com.apple.loginwindow.plist (a file in /Library/Preferences/)
Files that start with com.apple.LaunchServices (in /Library/Caches)
You may be prompted to enter your administrator password when dragging these files to the trash. You should restart afterwards.
If you still have the problem download the shareware utility TinkerTool System and use it to clear all user and system caches, font caches, old log archives, etc. Restart afterwards.
If you still have a problem try one of the following at a time:
1. Boot into Safe Mode (restart and after the chime press and hold down the SHIFT key until the startup screen appears with the dark gray Apple logo. Release the key as soon as the spinning gear appears.)
2. Create a new user account. Log into that account.
If the problem ceases with one or the other let us know which solved the problem.
Failing all of the above I'd say your best recourse is an Archive and Install. This does not require erasing the hard drive but you will need sufficient space for installing a fresh copy of OS X.

Is the I Pod 1 different that the I Pod 2 when working with photos

I have a refurbished I Pad 1 and wonder if the I pad 2 has the same issues in regard to photo issues such as delete when down loaded from PC, and so on. Or are they the same. Seem to be not very friendly!

They are the same i.e. only photos taken with the iPad, copied onto it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad - either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it in thumbnail view. Photos that were synced from your computer are deleted by moving/removing/de-selecting them from where they were synced from and then re-syncing.

Ical event details time different that display time

For some odd reason the event details of any event on any of my ical calendars comes in one hour earlier than the time listed as the start time "today", "list", "day" or "month" listing of events. Only when I go to the event details of any given particular event do I see it listed as having a start and end time exactly one hour before the time the time given in any other part of the ical software. huh? I've gone through all the drama of time zone shifts and timei zone support, so I don't think that is the issue. This is a just the difference between it saying my meeting starts at 3 (which it does) everyone except on the detail for that particular meeting which shows it starting at 2. uhg. Can someone help?

Bridge CC just stopped working on my MAC. Was working perfectly for a while and I haven't done anything different that I know of. When I try to load a folder it says " building criteria" and never does load. Please help!

Javascript Menu reacts differently after signing in

I am using Lightroom 1.3.1 on a Vista 64 system with 8G RAM. Things had been working fine, but suddenly I cannot see any of my picture, either in the Library module or in the Develop module.
In the Library module, I just see gray boxes for the thumbnails. When I originally open the Lightroom, there are no thumbnails, but when I mouse over them, the gray thumbnails appear. They also appear very disorganized - for example the gray thumbnail box for the "2" frame is upside down and the "2" label is reversed (mirror image). The filestrip view is similar.
If I go to the develop module, all I see is a gray box instead of the picture itself.
I've tried a few things - I deleted the preferences file and recreated it. I verified the integrity of the catalog. I tried creating a new catalog and I tried uninstalling and re-installing Lightroom. Nothing that I have done changes what I see.
Help - I am at a loss as to what to try next!

Well it actually uses the Profile which many another app wont bother to do, so if it is a corrupt profile it reacts differently that other apps.
