DSR-1800 recording video as a still, but recording audio just fine

Hello,
There is a reference in a previous post to a similar problem, but it wasn't answered and mine is slightly different so I'm posting it separately. (The previous post is titled "Edit to Tape - Video output drops to black when window opens. HELP!").
I'm working in FCP 5.0.4. When I attempt to output my timeline to my DVCAM deck (Sony DSR-1800), it records the audio flawlessly but only records the first frame of video as if it's a still. This occurs whether I use Edit to Tape, Print to Video, or just crash record and playback from the timeline.
I am going out through my Kona2 card via SDI, and all the settings in the control panel are correct. The video inputs on my deck are all set to SDI.
When I press record on the deck and move to different points on my timeline, the video shows up on my external monitor (which is seeing the output from the DVCAM deck), but if I play the timeline- again the video remains on the first frame I started on. If I switch my monitor over to the input from the Kona2 card and play my timeline, the video plays fine.
I refreshed my A/V Devices, and my External Video is indeed set to All Frames.
I can't conceive why this would be happening...it used to work just fine and I can't think of anything that has changed since the last time I output to this deck...except for upgrading to QT 7.0.3 and then downgrading back to 7.0.1 because 7.0.3 was messing with FCP (another interesting topic I posted titled "Final Cut, Quicktime, and Pro Tools conflicts" if anyone is interested).
I can output to my BetaSX deck fine. Does that mean it might have something to do with the deck's menu settings? I have definitely not changed anything there. Would this have anything to do with Quicktime? Would trashing the receipts and reinstalling it help?
Hopefully there's an obvious solution that I'm just not seeing. I'd rather swallow my pride than face one of those mystery problems.
Thanks a lot,
Joni

Well, kind of but not really.
I have a CANARE SDI patch bay in which I patch the inputs and outputs to and from the Kona card as I need them, since I have 5 decks and a monitor. So when I output to the DVCAM deck, I just move the patch cable from the SX IN to the DVCAM IN. So the decks are always hard-wired to the patch bay and nothing changes there, I just re-patch as necessary.
I haven't had any trouble doing it this way until today. What do you think?

  • HT201335 my apple tv video is delayed when its mirrored with my macbook pro but he audio is fine.

When I mirror my macbook pro to my apple tv the video is greatly delayed but the audio is perfect. how can i fix this?

Clamshell and mirroring are two distinct concepts, I know.  As to the lost audio, I have restarted my equipment more than a few times.  It's usually one of my first options.  Just don't understand why the audio stays home and the video makes it to the tv.  That's with mirroring.
I really want to be able to close the lid of the MacBook and use the tv as a desktop.  With mirroring, the cursor is choppy and reacts slowly.  I wish to watch programming stored on my drives on the tv.  I dont really need or want mirroring, but it's the only way I know of to get desktop to the tv.  And mirroring still suffers audio loss.  Someone in the community mentioned using and external keyboard and "clamshell" but they didn't elaborate.  That's what I'm really wishing to accomplish.
    Thanks, Sir Winston.

My purpose for copying to a CD or DVD is so that I can make copies and send to friends and relatives. What is the best way to get these files on a CD/DVD with the right codecs?
The easiest thing to do is to simply tell your friends and relatives to copy the files to their local hard drive before playing them. Your basic problem is that data discs have a limited real time transfer rate. Since you say VLC plays the files fine, I might suspect its player is likely buffering the data while the QT 7 Player is not.
Data discs made for playback directly from the CD or DVD are normally encoded using MPEG-4/AVC (H.264) video with AAC audio. This is a modern codec which has specific settings to re-package the data (i.e., must be encoded using the multipass option and then select the "optimize for CD/DVD" option).

Thank you, I am trying to last option now. Resetting my network settings and if that still doesn't work ill have to go in to the apple store. Hopefully I won't need a new phone because I'm already at my limit with replacements on my AppleCare even though the issue with the phones 3 out of 4 times wasn't my fault and I can't afford to buy another phone.

  • Elements 11 will not properly import from hard drive video of 352 x 480.  Audio is fine.

Hello All,  I'm wanting to import VHS video that was burned to a DVD.  Frame size is 352 x 480.  Elements shows it, even after rendering, as very distorted video on the monitor panel.  Audio is fine. Anybody here have an idea how to conform my video to the Project?

    Thank you for the reply.
(Note: It would be better also to know...frame rate and progressive or interlaced video...NTSC or PAL setup...but for now....with some assumptions...
Although I have never run into a DVD-VIDEO video file with the 352 x 480 (4:3) resolution, it does exist apparently.
DVD-Video - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
From my perspective, if your client's goal is DVD-VIDEO format on DVD disc for this source, I do not see that Premiere Elements (any version)
is going to produce a DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc with video files 352 x 480 (4:3). It will give you (NTSC) 720 x 480 4:3 @ 29.97 interlaced frames per second
    or (PAL) 720 x 576 4:3 @ 25 interlaced frames per second.
If your client can settle for your 352 x 480 (4:3) source exported to a file saved to the computer hard drive, then Premiere Elements 11 can give you a MPEG2.mpg
    file with a 352 x 480 4:3 resolution.
But, assuming the NTSC DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc workflow....with Frame Width = 480 pixels and Frame Height = 352 pixels...But if this is really portrait rather than
landscape oriented video, then we have other considerations not mentioned below....and I suspect we may be going in that direction...the answers will be in the details...
    1. Open Premiere Elements 11 to the Expert workspace. Go to File Menu/New/Project and Change Settings.
    2. In Change Setting, select
    NTSC
    FLIP
    Flip Mino and Ultra 29_97p
OK out of there. In the New Project dialog that next appears,
make sure that you have a check mark next to Force Selected Project Settings on This Project. OK out of there.
    3. Back in the Expert workspace, import your VTS_02_1.VOB using the project's Add Media/Files and Folders to get
the file into Projects Assets from where it is dragged to the Timeline.
(Typically the DVD-VIDEO's video files start with VTS_01_1.VOB, but not always. This may be one of those not always times. Just
check that your video is represented in those video files (VTS_).
    4. Edit, Add Menu if you want.
    5. Publish+Share/Disc/DVC disc with preset NTSC_Dolby DVD for the NTSC DVD-VIDEO Standard 4:3 on DVD disc
@ 29.97 interlaced frames per second.
    6. Moment of truth...what does that look like on your TV's DVD player.
Please review and consider and then we can fine tune if my assumptions did not meet your actual details.
    Thanks.

  • My iPod is up to a 4.1 ios, and it won't update to a 5.1 which I need for some of my apps for school. It keeps saying that my internet connection is bad; but, it works just fine. What do I need to do?

My iPod is up to a 4.1 ios, and it won't update to a 5.1 which I need for some of my apps for school. It keeps saying that my internet connection is bad; but, it works just fine. What do I need to do?

If you get a network timeout error, then disabling the computer's security software duirng the download and update usually resovles that error.
If that is not the error what is the wording of the error message.
Note that only a 3G or 4G iPod can go to iOS 5.  A 2G iPod can only go to iOS 4.2.1

  • Recording videos on Iphone 5 but no sound in playback

When I record videos on my Iphone and watch them in playback all i hear is a buzzing sound?! I've resetted my settings and restored... it still doesn't work and my phone is 1 week neww....

Oh my I can totally out do your stupidness :-). I spent over an hour on the Internet googling it!  I powered off/on, hard restart, reset the settings. Still no audio. Because it was less than 30 days since I bought it my phone i called my carrier and they said to just bring it in and they switched it out for a new phone. I get home, put my screen protectors on once again, sync it and get everything all set up. Tried a video and same thing!  Spent a good five minutes flipping it over and then I noticed that little black hole between the camera and flash... and figured it out!  I am, however, happy that I was actually able to help someone else out for the first time!

  • When I record video on my iphone 4 the audio sounds like it is muffled and is not as loud as it should be?

when I record video on my iphone 4 the playback of the audio sounds like it is muffled and is not as loud as it should be? I have had the phone for 2 years and the last time I had used it to record a video was in July of this year. The sound came out crisp and clear. Now when ever I play back videos the audio is muffled and at a lower volume than it should sound like. I have the volume set all the way up when I record and my hands are not covering the microphone and/or near to affect the audio playback.

It worked!!!!! Thank you. I didn't know there was a microphone at the top. I knew the hole was there but I didn't know what it was for. Thank you so much. \m/ ROCK ON!!

  • Mpeg video plays in iTunes, but no audio on iPod

I have a 10 minute video that plays fine in iTunes 7.0.1.8 on Widows XP. I did the "Convert Selection for iPod", which then allowed me to download the video.
However, when I play the video on the iPod, there is no sound.
The article "iPod plays video but not audio of some exported files" http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302588
describes this same condition, and attributes it to "muxed audio".
The suggestion to do "Show Movie Info" in Quicktime Player did not confirm the format as "MPEG1 Muxed" or "MPEG2 Muxed". Instead the Format field has ", 25971 x 28257, unknown" - kind of an unsatisfactory description.
The video file plays fine in Qucktime Player, it plays fine in iTunes - but it has lost all audio on the iPod.
Does anybody have a fix for this?
    Dave

First, make sure you are running the most recent update on your iPod.
Second, what are you using to convert your video? Have you tried purchasing any of the videos from iTunes? Do they work okay??

  • When watching a program or film, the video will go black, but the audio will keep playimg. The only way to get picture back is to turn the tv off then on.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Check that the HDMI cable is correctly seated at both ends.
Try disconnecting the cable and connecting it again.
    Try another HDMI cable.
Make sure your TV supports 720p (Apple TV 2)
Try the Apple TV with another TV

  • Recording video, pausing it and resume recording video

While recording a video on the iPhone 5S, it can pause the video recording for a while and it can resume back the video recording as well just like that?

60FPS will make the video smoother and is better when capturing fast moving objects. A higher FPS will however make the video file larger and if you plan to play the video on another device that device must also support playback of 60FPS.
The auto mode uses 30FPS and there's no setting to change this.
If you take a picture while recording video in auto mode it will have the same resolution as the video, 1920x1080. You can see the resolution of a picture if you open it in Album and tap [menu] -> Details.

  • Firefox will not load any webpage, but Chrome works just fine. What is wrong?

Whenever I open Firefox I get the message 'Problem loading page' on every website I try. This just started today. I am having the same issue with IE, but Chrome is working fine. It is not a problem with my internet, as Chrome and my PS3 have no problem connecting to the internet.

Thanks, turns out I got a virus somehow. BWContextHandler32.exe is reporting itself to my firewall as the game BulletStorm, which I do not have, and somehow attached itself to Firefox and probably IE as well. I figured it was bogus so I blocked it. Still not sure why it just started blocking Firefox. I was denying access to it for a couple days, darn procrastination, and Firefox was working fine. Now I just have to get rid of it...I really hate windows sometimes...
