DSR-45 import

I am trying to import live video coming through a Sony DSR-45. I have done this before with Final Cut 5.1 with no problems, but I have to use the non-controllable setting. Does anyone have insight on how to do this in Final Cut X? Or if it's possible? I bought this with the understanding that the bugs had been worked out. Guess I should have noticed the free trial and tried that first.

Not an answer to yur question... but I tried just this weekend to import a bunch of DV tapes from that deck... disaster .... the clips broke into tiny segments, hundreds of them!
The image was fine, and deck control worked. Hard to know what was wrong with the data stream.
I moved to an old canon HV20 camera for the payer. Worked fine.

Can you bring video from a DVCam tape using a DSR 2000 into Final Cut Pro?

Should work OK with the iLink (a.k.a. Firewire a.k.a. IEE1394a) interface, but you may have to capture using iMovie, then ( in FCX) running File > Import > iMovie Events.)

  • FCP 7.01 crashes when importing from a DSR 11 tape deck.

I am trying to import to FCP 7.01 some DV Pal footage from the DSR 11 tape deck. When I play the film it shows in the viewer fine, but if I then click the capture now button it crashes FCP. I have rebooted several times and it has happened about ten times consecutively. Any ideas why? I've been capturing using cards since getting the new system and not needed to do this before, but need to import a dvcam tape and can't do it.

deck is connected via a firewire cable, device control is set to Firewire Pal, capture input DV Pal 48k Anamorphic, 5TB of space on scratch disk available. This is a new system and I have output to the deck fine for a previous job, but now have this issue with importing from the same deck. Crashes FCP every time.

  • Importing from Non controllable device via dsr 11 not working

I am importing segments from a dvd (yes, I am allowed to) and for some reason the dsr 11 is not sending the info out via the firewire cable into my G5. I have been getting around this by recording onto a tape, and then importing from the tape, but that is doubling all the work I have to do. I did limit capture now, and read a lot of posts regarding this problem but I haven't been able to solve it. Clearly all my cables are working as I can go from the dvd player to the deck, and from the deck to the computer, though not from the dvd player to the computer via my deck. Anyone have any idea what the problem might be?
    Thanks!

You probably won't get better image quality that MPEG Streamclip which does a file conversion. You should take this question to the Final Cut Pro forum as they will have more experience with the many more setting options available in that application.
If the device is not be recognized no capture process will work, and it has noting to do with the DVD. You need to sort that problem first. Try trashing prefs, rebooting and making sure the device is turned on and in the correct mode before you launch the application.

  • Import audio using dsr-11 as AtoD converter

Cassette audio player -> Sony DSR-11->firewire -> thunderbolt.
FCP sees the DSR-11 AND plays the sound - but refuses to record the data.
I am trying to use a Sony DSR-11 to convert (digitize) some audio tapes of a person speaking in real time and pass that data on to FCP.
When I play the cassette, and press the record button on the DSR-11, and then select file/event import - I can hear the audio clearly.
the time imported on the left starts to increment -- but the " data captured " on the top right says " no data.
What's up with this?  I selected audio only.  I can hear the audio -- it has to be digital.
I am so close -- it is just frustrating.
I might have go buy a cheap Roxio converter instead of using this $1600 A to D unit.  Aaarghhh.
latest version of FCP, Yosemite, 2013 iMac with i7 and fusion drive  (the Beast)

I guess my main question is this :  What do people use on a Mac?  I have always heard of musicians and editors using it for audio, and now I have a $3500 machine and it won't deal with plain audio on a usb???????
just color me perplexed.  but really - what are people using?
It simply looks like you are missing a driver for a particular usb device. What device is it? Did you actually try it? Does it appear in System Profile? Does it appear in System Preferences->Sound?
I have both a Griffin iMic (which is a nice usb audio input and output device made for the mac, years ago) and a cheap usb audio "pen" with audio in and out.
They both work without any driver installation in Yosemite, just plug and play. So the idea that Yosemite can't handle usb audio is simply not true.
Note that neither of these options are meant for high quality professional audio. I hope someone with more expertise on audio in OS X can chime in.

  • Import VHS through DSR-11 to FCP?

Hello. I have a DSR-11... can I import VHS by hooking up a VHS VCR to the 11 which is in turn connected to my Mac in FCP? I am not a techie and man, I just can't get this to work. If there is anyone out there who imports VHS this way... please advise. Thanks!
    Dual 2GHz G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I myself prefer what Shane said about what David said, except I shall add a technical sidebar. you rally should have a TBC and a waveform/vector display if you're going to be investing in VHS-to-DV dubs via composite.
Overkill? Possibly. But correcting the levels and rebuilding for coherent timing will make your life much easier when you ingest the DV. Put some bars and tone on that tape!

  • Sony DSR DU1 VDU import glitches

Has anyone experience of working with one of these Sony units? I am experiencing glitches on the video and audio when I import clips.
The problem goes away - or at least happens less often - if I use FCP with only the DU1 attached and no other firewire devices. The other firewire device that's usually connected is a Sony DSR11 deck - which really I want to have hooked up all the time.
The two devices are on different firewire ports (not a hub) - the DSR11 on the rear port and the DU1 on the front. The problem also occured on our G5; we were hoping the MacPro would eliminate it.
    Any ideas?
    thanks!

Another solution for the G5 is to buy a firewire card, thus creating a second buss. You can probably find one at Fry's for less than 30 dollars and install it yourself in less than 10 minutes. That way you can continue to feed your monitor through the deck while capturing on the other buss.
A card for a laptop port will run you a bit more but accomplish the same thing.

  • Anyone managed to import VDY Data from a sony DSR-DU1?

No data found, alltough the disk is mounted...
    thanks Michel

Sorry, both wrong, VDU stands for Video Disk Unit, a portable sony harddisk wich records dv data, but with woven audio. output file is .dvd, dragged on the timeline on fcp, it's needs to be rendered. Apple made a solution for this:
import VDU data, but it sees no drive at all, hence my problem.

  • Sony DSR-25 not found with FCP 5.1.2

    Hi @ all,
I updated to FCP 5.1.2 to fix a dublicate bug with a Sony XDCam HD in 5.1.1 (http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=3269745#3269745)
This Problem was solved, but now i can't connect my Sony DSR-25 with Firewire to Mac. I have only one Firewire Onboard Slot and in 5.1.1 the DSR-25 worked fine. FCP doesn't finde the Deck
So did anyone have an intention or an idea what the problem could be with 5.1.2 ? Or did anyone has used a DSR-25 with FCP 5.1.2 already?
    TOM

This is a good workaround for curing your camera recognition problem with FCP (if that's what it is):
First, check that your Easy Setup / Timeline / Camera or Deck Settings are all exactly the same, then making sure your camera or deck is in VTR mode, try to capture again.
FCP uses a different form of QT than iMovie for capturing, so if the camera works in iMovie (or if it's listed in System Profiler) but not FCP, it obviously means your Mac can see the VTR but FCP can't, so you need to do this QuickTime fix.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301852
Follow the instructions carefully and you should have things running in no time - it's quite safe but you must Trash the Receipts AND re-install QT from the link provided.
If the Camera / Deck isn't recognised by iMovie or System Profiler, try resetting the Firewire Bus . . . Turn off the Mac and disconnect the power and all Firewire cables. Leave it for 30 mins then connect back up.
Still not working? Try a different Firewire cable.
Failing all this, try resetting the PMU (Power Management Unit). The method varies from machine to machine, so visit the Apple site and search for it in support.
Don't use iMovie for capturing - it doesn't give you a timecode and that's very important.
Let us know how you get on!

  • File Crashing FCP - Can import from different tape brand be at fault?

I always use Sony Premium mini DV tapes and import my video through my Sony DSR-11 miniDV deck into FCP.
I was recently handed a Fujifilm miniDV tape. The video imported fine. But once I dragged it to the timeline, rendering any transitions or filters caused big gray boxes to appear on the video. Sound also fell. I was able to make it work - but the exported file retained the boxes at different places each time I exported.
Now the file doesn't open at all and it crashes FCP. All other files on my system still open and export fine except for this one.
My question is 1. whether the change of tape brand can cause the import to go haywire.
and 2. Is there any way I can open this file? I trashed preferences and restarted with no luck.
Any suggestions ar emuch appreciated. Thanks!
    Dual 1.8 GHz G5 Mac OS X (10.4.8) 4 GB DDR SDRAM

I've never had the same experience, so this is purely speculation.
Changing brands used in the same camcorder has been reported as the cause of recording & playback problems. But, since the playback from the DSR was okay, I'm guessing the brand isn't the problem.
Could be the camcorder settings don't match your FCP settings?
What if you copied the Fuji tape to Sony tape in your camcorder. That way you would have control of both the tape and the camcorder settings.

  • Firewire Output to DSR-11

This question will seem redundant, but I haven't found a question like it in the forum, nor a question that has been answered that comes close to it. I just switched to a Mac over a month ago. I installed a second internal drive for video capturing. I only have a DSR-11 deck hooked to the FW port in the back. I use DV tapes in/out to FCP 5.1; however, the problem is the output to the deck. When I print to tape or try to let the timeline play out to my BetaSP deck via the DSR I keep getting drop frames on the output, which prohibits me from being able to record to the BetaSP. Now, let me say this. I have used the manuals and this forum to trouble shoot this problem. I have tried all of the settings tweaks, and every configuration that I see someone else has posted. However, my setup is very simple. DV NTSC 48khz and Firewire. I don't mirror to the desktop, and I only use two tracks for video and 4 tracks of audio. Safe RT is checked, and I've tried lowering the playback settings until the quality was too poor to use. FCP reads my DSR-11 deck fine, and I don't have problems inputting video footage via the deck. I've tried both the front and back FW ports, and get the same results. There are no other FW devices attached. Please, someone help me out. Thanks.

    Bogiesan,
    To answer your question:
So you are using the DSR as the transcoder and taking the composite outs up to your Beta?
Yes, I am. That's exactly what I'm doing. I have to use Beta SP for the TV station.
And to address your last instructions. What I did before I came to this forum to make a post was to export the timeline to a Quicktime mov; which is what you're saying, and then I brought it back into the project. Closed the old sequence; started a new sequence, and dropped the new mov into the timeline. I believe this is what you're saying.? So, I tried that before I asked the question. I had already put the playback settings back to full because I felt like a mov file would work without any glitches, but I got the same problem.
Now, let me try to address Andy's questions because I can tell that he didn't read my post properly.
How much processor power do you have?
I have a quad. It says that in my profile. Quads have only one processor configuration.
How much RAM do you have? How much ram I have is irrelevant b/c I didn't say that my system was running slow, but I have 2 gigs.
These details should be listed in your profile settings, to give people here the information they need to help you.
    You could also supply:
How much Hard Drive free space do you have?
(If it’s less than 15 to 20% on any HD, your system will work slowly). I have a 250 + 250.
Are ANY of your Media files on your System Drive?
(If they are, your system will work slowly).
I said that I installed a second hd to capture video in my original post, so as for you to not assume that I would put video files on my system drive.
And if I sound unappreciative I'm not, it's just that I had already wrote so much that it should have been clear that I wouldn't allow simple system settings to be the reason for me asking the question. I generally read all material and check forums before I ask any questions. Because I really do believe there are stupid questions if someone else has already asked and had his/her question answered.
So, does anyone have any idea on why I may still be getting dropped frames on output? Again, I've already tried exporting the sequence to a mov and re-importing it back into FCP to print to tape. And by the way, I have to add closed captions to my final tape. If I didn't have to do this I really would have a better work around, but b/c of this I have to pretty much do it this way. Right now, I don't have the funding to just go by a separate video card, so that suggestion will just be taken with a grain of salt. Thanks.

  • Sound lost during archive importation

    Hi
I have a video archive, imported from a Sony DSR 500 camera, with 2 sound tracks. When I watch it on the "importation from a camera" panel, it is ok I can hear both of the sound tracks, one and two.
I imported it in Final Cut Pro X, and I simply lost the sound track 2. I can't hear it, and the 2nd green sound track is empty.
What can I do, or what did I do wrong before the import ?
    Thank you.
    Fred

There are some Audio options to either check or uncheck on the Import tab of the Preferences window under the Final Cut Pro menu.  The options would present stereo or mono, remove silent tracks, etc.  That's one place to look.  The second is click on one of your clips in the event browser or timeline and look at the inspector window under the Audio tab.  There are options there for presenting the audio as Dual Mono, Stereo, Surround Sound, etc. It may be your mic recorded stereo, but your camera was set to mono.  Many cameras record in stereo but use an external mic that is mono.  Assumming that all of that is okay, I would simply put on a set of headphones and plug them into your camera and play the clip there.  Do you hear sound on both left and right?  If so, then it would seem the problem really is in FCP X.  I know from experience, when I only have one of the two audio tracks, I can usally fix it in the inspector window under the Audio tab in the Volume and Pan settings area and specifically in the Pan Mode drop down menu.  Best wishes.

    Hi Oren,
In Tool area jar file you will be having jar files that you have to include along with newly created par file and then import the file.
These jar files you can get from the downloaded com.sapportals.portal.navigation.par file. After getting the .bak file make it as a .zip file and extract the same into a folder there under the
lib folder you can find the related jar files.Import these jar files through jar import so that these error can resolved.
you can refer to these following link

  • Importing with a dvcam deck

So I gave up on trying to import 45 min blocks of video into im08. I am now taking a dvd player, running it through a sony dvcam dsr-11. This allows me to import the 10 seconds I need from many random places. But im08 keeps force quiting. Not that it stops and I have to force quit, the computer quits. What do I need to do to keep it from quiting?

Ok, so I imported with im06 and then imported im06 into im08 and it worked...or atleast it has so far. only problem is it renamed all of my clips!
