Tom,
Just to add in some my thoughts.. You probably get more money from the OKP materials than the standard courses IMHO.  If you don't already have a license for the CRM 40, CRM 50 and CRM 2006s/2007 OKP materials then you should purchase it.  The OKP materials for CRM 40 almost cover the fundamentals of how the system works and the associated functionality.  It is quite easy then to pick each new release after reading the 40 baseline materials.
You will probably learn more by working with a CRM sandbox or building actual scenario than what the classes can teach you.  The classes are good if you need an overview of the material and want to get away from your office and focus on learning.
I have somehow managed to in the last several years to get by with very little classroom training, but tons of self study using the system materials and OKP materials.  I don't claim to know every aspect of CRM, but you can get things done on your own.
Oh btw the material you found online is probably an illegal copy of that material.
Take care,
Stephen

  • I need a clarification : Can I use EJBs instead of helper classes for better performance and less network traffic?

My application was designed based on MVC Architecture. But I made some changes to HMV base on my requirements. Servlet invoke helper classes, helper class uses EJBs to communicate with the database. Jsps also uses EJBs to backtrack the results.
I have two EJBs(Stateless), one Servlet, nearly 70 helperclasses, and nearly 800 jsps. Servlet acts as Controler and all database transactions done through EJBs only. Helper classes are having business logic. Based on the request relevant helper classed is invoked by the Servlet, and all database transactions are done through EJBs. Session scope is 'Page' only.
Now I am planning to use EJBs(for business logic) instead on Helper Classes. But before going to do that I need some clarification regarding Network traffic and for better usage of Container resources.
Please suggest me which method (is Helper classes or Using EJBs) is perferable
    1) to get better performance and.
    2) for less network traffic
    3) for better container resource utilization
I thought if I use EJBs, then the network traffic will increase. Because every time it make a remote call to EJBs.
    Please give detailed explanation.
    thank you,
    sudheer

<i>Please suggest me which method (is Helper classes or Using EJBs) is perferable :
    1) to get better performance</i>
EJB's have quite a lot of overhead associated with them to support transactions and remoteability. A non-EJB helper class will almost always outperform an EJB. Often considerably. If you plan on making your 70 helper classes EJB's you should expect to see a dramatic decrease in maximum throughput.
    <i>2) for less network traffic</i>
There should be no difference. Both architectures will probably make the exact same JDBC calls from the RDBMS's perspective. And since the EJB's and JSP's are co-located there won't be any other additional overhead there either. (You are co-locating your JSP's and EJB's, aren't you?)
<i>3) for better container resource utilization</i>
Again, the EJB version will consume a lot more container resources.

  • Is 33.0 a Beta release as it says in view more info or a strongly recommended security and stablilty release?

I was about to apply the new Filefox 33.0 update, but when I went to "View more information", the page there says 33.0Beta. I don't want a beta release. I am not sure what to do. I have Windows 7 Professional and Firefox 32.0.3 now. Thanks.

Firefox 32.0 would not update to a Beta build of 33.0 unless you were using a Beta build of 32.0 and not the 32.0 Release at time.
Firefox 33.0 is on Beta channel (currently at 33.0b9) and it will be on Release channel for Release as of October 14. The Beta channel will then start with 34.0b1.

  • Training classes for webdynpro?

    Hi,
does anyone know, if or when SAP education will offer training classes for WebDynpro?
I was looking for it on the Market Place, but could not find anything.
    Thanks,
    Patricia

    Hi Patricia,
Unfortunately, the formalized training for Web Dynpro is still in the beta stages.  I was one of the instructors at the first session of RDWAS2 (which focuses on development within the Web Application Server 6.40 including heavy Web Dynpro content) that had external customers in attendance just last week.  The class was still in "Beta" mode and not open to the general public.  There is a bit of tweaking still to do on the content, but I expect you will see a general scheduling of the course in the near future.  (Formalized training can lag a general customer release by up to 6 months, but I think this one will be out more quickly.)
         Hope this helps,
           --Greg

  • Hands on training class coming up: what to expect?

    Hi:
Finally, after more than 2 years, I am at the final stage of my OCP path, namely the Hands on Training.
What should we expect from this class? My class will be Performance Tuning for 10g.
Is there some kind of exam at the end? Are there specific texts used? Are there any group work based assignments? Homework?
I really want to get the most out of the experience so want to arrive prepared.
    Cheers.

    Hi Steve,
do not attend Oracle University classes . . . The other reason is that you have to in order to meet a requirement for certification. You are not alone there, many folkd see the hand-on OU course requirement as a money-grab:
First, who is to say that Oracle University is the best place to acquire the necessary skills to become Oracle certified? There are other resources that can provide the same level of coverage of the exam topics and DBA roles. Granted, Oracle's exam objectives map nicely to the courses offered (on purpose, I'm sure), but how about those organizations that decide on bringing in someone to train their people on the same topics outlined in the exam objectives using non-Oracle material or instructors? Is the quality of their training different if the person performing the training is as qualified or better qualified than Oracle's own instructor? Furthermore, they're not breaking any licensing rules since they are legally allowed to use their Oracle licenses to train their own staff.
My second problem relates to the reason someone may decide to use a third-party training organization to provide these in-house classes -- the cost. Oracle University classes are quite expensive. By forcing OCP candidates to attend an Oracle University class Oracle is helping to ensure a revenue stream for its education division. Unfortunately, it may also have the effect of discouraging potential OCP candidates from pursuing their certification past the OCA stage. I always thought it was about getting qualified candidates out into the workforce, though it now appears the OCP certification is about filling seats in Oracle University classes.
This leads me to my third problem -- any of the Oracle University classes outlined above is valid in satisfying this requirement.
the instructors are typically very good and quite knowledgeable).I disagree! Some a GREAT, but most of them have very little real-world experience. Steve Karam was a senuior instructor at Oracle University, and he has some amazing stories . . .
I like this blog, from an OU student:
    http://natalian.org/archives/2005/07/01/week-2-at-the-oracle-university/
Week 2 at Oracle University:  ORACLE SUCKS ! ORACLE SUCKS ! ORACLE SUCKS ! ORACLE SUCKS ! ORACLE SUCKS ! ORACLE SUCKS ! ORACLE SUCKS ! ORACLE SUCKS ! ORACLE SUCKS ! ORACLE SUCKS !
Steve, I like your steps as an alternative to OU:
    http://www.databasejournal.com/features/oracle/article.php/10893_3350951_2
+1. Download Oracle documentation and software. The only "cost" here involves having to register with Oracle Technology Network (OTN). Being a member of OTN is something you want to do. There are no negatives associated with belonging to OTN. All the documentation and Oracle software you could ever want is available here seven days a week at the same low cost to one and all: free. The only software you cannot get here is patch software. In a learning mode, the likelihood of you running into a bug that requires a patch is very low. What you miss out on by not having access to patches is exposure to the patch installation process. The top books or guides you should read are Concepts, Administrator's Guide (and its Windows version, plus Getting Started for Windows), Installation Guide for <fill in your OS> (and the release notes), Backup and Recovery Concepts, Net Services Administrator's Guide, and SQL*Plus User's Guide and Reference. That is over 3000 pages - and that is just to start with because there are plenty of other guides you will need to read.+
+2. Subscribe to Oracle Magazine. Published six times a year, this complimentary subscription provides news and information about Oracle straight from Oracle. Several of the regular columns are very good, first and foremost being Ask Tom by Tom Kyte. You should plan to make regular visits to Mr. Kyte's website at OTN.+
+3. Visit Oracle DBA websites. Most of these websites, including the originating source of this article at www.databasejournal.com, have a free question and answer forum. There are many very knowledgeable contributors to these forums. Some are exceptional in their knowledge. Be aware that all answers are not always correct, but even the wrong ones may help steer you in the right direction at times. Before posting a question, make some attempt on your own to have researched the answer. You can learn a lot by reading what is posted, but you will learn much more and much quicker if you participate in providing or posting answers. If you see a question no one has replied to yet, look up the answer and post it. This means spending a portion of your day surfing the websites and doing the research and writing, so be aware that this type of internet usage during working hours may not be condoned by your employer (i.e., do it on your own time).+
+4. Join a local user's group. These generally are not free, and many companies will sponsor their employees in these groups. Some groups have free access to online technical information (even without being a member). Many groups have quarterly meetings with guest speakers who cover a wide range of topics. Better yet are the groups who host annual training days. Oracle's OpenWorld event is the ultimate in this realm, and it commands a hefty price just to attend. Oracle also hosts (free) Technology and Developer Days, which are half to full day events where Oracle representatives put on demos or present lectures on some aspect of a new or hot Oracle feature.+
+5. Buy books, and lots of them. What is missing in one is usually covered in another similar book. You are no longer in the land of the free (really, that's not a political statement), so you'll need to contain your costs here. eBay is an excellent source of acquiring books. One of the best places to purchase new books is at www.bookpool.com. Bookpool virtually always beats Amazon and other online booksellers, and it always beats the price you pay when buying from a "brick and mortar" store. Barnes & Noble, Borders and other storefront sellers (including their online stores) almost always cost more than what you can find at Bookpool. Which books to buy? Anything from O'Reilly is going to be good. Oracle Press is a mixed bag of quality and is generally my publisher of last resort. Oracle8i DBA Bible by Jonathan Gennick et al is excellent. Mr. Gennick co-authored O'Reilly's Oracle Net8 Configuration and Troubleshooting, which is a superb reference on Oracle networking. Once you are ready for the nitty-gritty details, you will need Expert One-on-One by Tom Kyte (now published by APress, and previously by Wrox). This book is the gold standard of Oracle. Do not buy books for older versions of Oracle. Buying the complete reference set for Oracle7 is a complete waste of money, as are many of the Oracle8 books (do not bother with the Oracle 8 exam prep book either). Oracle8i books are still quite relevant, and there have not been that many definitive books on Oracle9i.+
+6. Buy a set of certification books and get certified. I happen to like the Sybex series for OCP. Not only do the books provide you a fair amount of preparation for the certification exams, they also come in handy as reference books (they are full of examples and command syntax). The package deal for 8i (three books) is cheaper than buying each book separately. In addition to buying the certification prep books, you should be certified. Do not cheat yourself and go down the cheat-sheet road for certification. Put in the time to study and pass. Not only do you learn Oracle, you get some recognition for it as well. Some tests are easier than others are, but it always feels good seeing the green bar being longer than the red bar. The Self Test Software exam prep programs are dead on with respect to what the real exams are like. Individually, they are around $100 each, but STS frequently has sales promotions where you can realize significant savings. The online version is the cheaper way to go. You do not really need the CD's after you pass an exam.+
NOTE: If you are thinking about getting Oracle8i certified, today is not too late to start. On May 1st, Oracle announced the retirement of the 8i track. You have until the end of 2004 to complete all of the 8i exams. If you have any aspirations of becoming an Oracle9i OCP, your path here should include first becoming an 8i OCP. Your cost to become a 9i OCP is one upgrade exam. No ILT requirement. That alone saves you $2500. It's not too late, but time is running out.
+7. Purchase an online training program (or use what your company may already have). Oracle has self-study CD courses, as do other vendors. At $250 per day for instructor-led online courses, you can "attend" the same classes you pay $500 per day in person. You can also purchase a one-year subscription to an online library with over 400 courses. Here is a tip if your company is in the partners program: did you know you already have a free subscription to this online library? Otherwise, the cost is only $280.+
+8. Pay for training on your own. At the high end of the cost scale, you can pay for classes and training at a private company. Before signing a contract and spending around $3000 for a three month or 250 hour long program of instruction (POI), do some homework. Is the company reputable? Has it experienced a lot of instructor turnover? Are the instructors well qualified to be teaching Oracle database administration in the first place? Do you get your own workstation or PC while in class? Any guarantees of retaking a class module if you fail an exam? Do they offer financing? Are other package deals available (e.g., learn UNIX and Oracle at the same time)? Is the company being sued for copyright infringement (using some other company's training material and isn't it strange the front page is always missing on their handouts)? Do books come with class, or do you buy those on your own? If they come with the class, see if you can purchase them on your own and save some money. Most employers offer tuition reimbursement, but do not be surprised if your employer will not or cannot offer this to you. The reason why? Because tuition reimbursement programs require that the POI result in an academic grade.+

  • Advanced Muse Training Classes/Trainer

I'm looking for a training class for Muse (Intermediate/Advanced) in the NYC/Long Island area or a skilled private trainer.. preferably a 1 or 2 day training course.. there doesn't seem to be much out there. I have many ideas but am having trouble executing and therefore, my project has come to a standstill. Please respond to my post or message me if you can help. Thanks!

the website you are referring (it's nice) does use other programs i note, which probably means some expertise in html JS and Adobe Edge (i love Edge) as much as Muse. For instance Muse has no scroll widget. I wanted a scroll capability once (and it has been recommended here before), but then i learnt to live without it and now frankly, with all the alternatives that Muse has to offer, i'd rather not use it even if it were available. The beauty of Muse is of course its simplicity and dare i say functionality (there are some things i wish they would remedy particulry when using video) which, I think, have made me a far better website designer.
So, in a sense, there's nothing really complicated about Muse and that's why I recommended lynda.com. I'm cool with basic, since Rembrandt's tools were just that. As for private training classes, I am not much help, but if there are any in your area i'm sure they will have made there whereabouts known through Google. Good luck with your project.

For BIOS Update: >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<

Hey guys real quick. So after updating to the new 7670IMS>310 bios so that I may use my GTX780s, I reinstalled with windows 8. Everything was fine until I was on teamviewer just last nite and upon switcing sides my bios got corrupted. How do I know you ask? Upon getting back into windows my LANS did not work so I had not internet connection. I tried uninstalling it from Device Manager and deleting it. After a few clrmos. I thought I would switch over to the other bios and see if the LAN works and it does because of the status lights because now it lights up. So I switch back to main bios and LAN works but it would not post whatsoever and just cycles through post finally ending with a " DE ". Not sure what the new LED DEBUG codes are but if someone could post it would be nice to be able to refer to it.
Anyways on win 8, no matter what it will not let me into windows And when it looks like it will...gives me "your pc ran into problems and we are collecting data and we'll restart after" message. After a few of these wonderful messages, I decided I was going to flash my bios again. It did look like I was sucessful until after restart it did the same thing. Going through post I saw 19,15 then shuts off. Does this and ends with "DE" pc still on but nothing. No windows.
I got lucky a few times and was able to get into my bios and decided I was going back to Win 7 64......I put the good ole XFX6990 back in and got windows 7 to reinstall and continue to flash my bios to an older one. I used your method before and it work> from 3.0 back to 1.5 then from 1.5 back to 1.2 for OC purposes. So i tried that method but it looked like it just reflash it with 3.1, odd.
So after a few restarts everything seems fine, no cycles just normal. When I reboot normal process no double boots or cycles this time so I thought hey, that fixed my corrupted bios somehow. I thought I gotten lucky.... So I switch out the good old 6990 and in with my 780s. Reinstalled win 7 and upon completion of windows update. Again with the cycles of 19,15 turns off does this again over and over like 5 or 6 times and ends with "DE"
And this is where I'm at atm. I remember when I DL'd the flasher and bios. I only saw 2 files which was " VALVE CHECK AND E7670IMS.310".
When I tried to do it again with the same method as the first I have "
    #BIOS
    #BK_6.Z7
    #EFIFLASH
    #MSIHQ(icon)
    #MSIHQ_INFO
    #MT420"
This time it does not go through the same when flashing, just tells me bios update complete. I've done this a million times and all have been successful.
Basically I'm still on 3.1 bios but I 'm curious as what other methods do you suggest I try now? I have left everything alone after reinstalling windows and updates. Everything seems okay, reboots fine no cycles and still get the random hit or miss with 15,19 turns off cycles and ends with "DE". Would like to get a resolution if possible. Thank you and I know I said real quick right, but really. Thanks for any help.
    I'm going nuts!!

a 1.5gb update cannot be considerd a minor updates. a prerequired check of all necessary hw would be considered a starting point not a surprise at the end of the process!
How do you suggest this hardware check should be done? "OS" stands for "operating system," the software that runs the computer. The computer of necessity relies on the OS to do its checks. If the OS on the Mac is damaged or the drive needs to be reformatted to correct errors on it, how do you expect it to be able to use its damaged software to check for any damage to its own hardware?
Macs have a very limited hardware test built into their firmware called POST, for Power On Self Test. As the name suggests, this runs every time you power them up. But it can only check for gross errors, & can't check the OS software at all (because that software has to load & run the tests).
Apple provides a more extensive way to check for hardware problems known as the Apple Hardware Test, but for reasons that should be obvious from the above, it has to be initiated by the user. Likewise, Apple provides a way to test the hard drive for errors (Disk Utility), & for the same reasons it must be run from another start up volume (like the system DVD) to repair the drive normally supplying the OS.
Apple also provides Safe Mode, which loads only the essential parts of the OS from the start up drive. But it isn't magic -- if any of the essential parts of the OS have been damaged by file system corruption, it too will fail to start up the Mac.
The bottom line is Apple can't possibly provide any comprehensive way for your Mac to predict how a perfectly good update would react to existing hardware or software damage on it. That is something you must learn to do, especially if you rely on it for any professional purpose.

  • How do I uninstall Firefox 4.0 Beta 12 and go back to the older vers

I made a mistake by downloading Firefox 4.0 Beta 12 and I can't work with this version. How do I go back to the older version. I need help quickly as I am unable to print my work. This is bad.

Firefox 4 is probably the most un-successful "new" Product since the "New Coke Formula" and the Ford Edsel!
It has been a '''DISASTER''' for me and many I know.
The cgi order form button on my own website does not work for anyone using Firefox 4.
Darn annoying and folks take ages ordering, press the button, assume it has gone though, and sadly nothing reaches me. Annoyed clients and large loss of money for me.
Tonight I tried to book a complicated multi city International itinerary on United Airlines site. Spent 30 minutes getting it right, went right to "Purchase" page and the SAME issue ..... click "BUY" button - and ZILCH.
Removed Firefox 4, did it all again, and worked fine using Firefox 3.6.
Thanks Firefox for wasting a good hour of my time tonight.
Tech boards all over the globe have reported these glitches for quite a while on order buttons, and the geeks there seem to be all asleep.
Bill Gates must be laughing his head off - and you now have ''Microsoft's VISTA'' on your hands.
They did not fix that either, and folks still use it as an example of an "UPDATE" that should never have been released as the bugs were never Beta Tested out.
